The finale of Only Boo gave me Kang in blue and Moo in yellow kissing under the pink = 💕love💕 lighting as boyfriends.

It gave more pink = 💕love💕 with the matching boyfriend bracelets.

Then it repeated the hits showing Kang in his blue and Moo in his yellow kissing for the first time.

It showed me both boys in their passionate red with Kang highlighted by the blue lighting and Moo supported by the yellow lighting.

And finally, it hit me with the Blinding Light of Love as the boys merged their colors together surrounded by green.

Regardless of the journey to get here, the people who put in the effort to give this Blue Boy and Yellow Yal their consistent color story each and every episode earned their paychecks.

Love this interview... I have been semi-checking in on Zawe's journey since before certain stans were feeling some kinda way about her recent familial additions. I do for certain Black actors/creators especially, who seem to be moving in interesting ways in entertainment/film media...

-A remnant from a period when I used to go to screenings and blog about films (and was published a few times in a major national newspaper)... So, I knew of Zawe through the grapevine of her mentorship, i.e. she is the reason why Rege Jean Page of Bridgerton fame got to work in U.S. markets, as she sponsored him. And she is known, as one of those "good eggs" who will be accessible and help/advise especially young actors of color. ...But, I have some other stuff to say. This isn't about proving that she's an amazing human being. It's about a certain brand of misogynoir that some of these people far beneath her in self-knowledge, self-love, and just plain grown-ass-woman-personhood...keep letting fly in what they *think* are compliments, but actually are just trite microaggressions. Saying things like "as long she makes [T-blank H-blank] happy then she's alright" as if he's the centered human and her attachment renders her worthy somehow. Babies, as long as SHE'S happy. Yall. He's marrying up.

WAY UP and the fact that he knows this? Actually elevates him. She's been there.

She tells a story in the above interview that reminds me of Uzo Aduba's anecdote about her name , - of an incident when she was called to an early job (at 6!) and someone there said she wasn't pretty because of her gap and her Ugandan mother took her on past this person and into the room, ANYWAY.

... She learned a specific self-knowledge and self-love, that is necessary in very white western spaces that constantly pressures a narrow sense of worthiness and beauty, especially from Black women, something a lot of these small-minded stans don't even have a notion of seeing beyond. Zawe is biracial, and her features, aside from her skin tone are very African. So while she benefits from colorism, featurism is something I've seen those bigoted stans, pick on as well. She knows those features are what makes her beautiful and knew that, w/o and before her partner saw that too. And people who aren't blind narrow-minded ignoramuses can *also* see that. This is why I assert the fact of featurism needing to be in the conversation of light/dark privilege conversations. Lips, nose, gap, and even the set of her eyes are ethnic beauty markers within quite a few spaces in the Black African diaspora... My mom was an absolute stunner because of her gap.

Even the old school white model Lauren Hutton got there because of her gap. Uzo Aduba, who I have already mentioned has a deeper skintone and has similarly large round striking eyes, gap, and a non-pinched-nose *rightly* played Glinda in NBC's production of The Wiz a few years back, with Dorothy saying she's so beautiful *because* of those features, not despite them as a very narrow white-washed gaze would wrongly assert.

And while we're here that includes sizes and shapes too. I'm saying your boy is enjoying all that plush. A lot of yall need to read or reread Maya Angelou's Phenomenal Woman, for comprehension.

Anyway... All this to say I know Zawe is and will be fine regardless.

I do think Withers has a really subtle background character arc in bg3. Because at the start it is really clear he doesn't want to be here and he's being forced to clean up his mess by Helm and probably Ao. He doesn't really care either. Everything ends so nothing really matters, he'd like to go back to his paperwork now please.

Except he's stuck babysitting a bunch of traumatized dumbasses as they stumble into dealing with the most recent bad idea of his three fuck-up disappointments. So he brings them back when they die for a pittance, lets them pay for some vengeful ghosts to come back as flesh and blood to wreak bloody vengeance on the Absolute, and starts to... comment, on what's going on, as he follows them on their adventure.

Next thing you know Withers is like, doing things unprompted. He refuses to bring back Alfira (or Quil) but that's an act of compassion, keeping the poor girl from the Urge and letting her rest, his actual duty as a god of death. He tells Arabella to follow her destiny and does that thing to make her grief go away which honestly freaks me out but seems to be him trying to help her. He shows up at Moonrise and prompts us to consider why the Dead Three would want a bunch of soulless illithids that would give them no power, getting us to think of the big picture.

And by the end (especially if you do a resist!Durge playthrough) Withers is actively interfering and seems genuinely invested! He brings Durge back from the dead, free of their father! He encourages us before the final fight with the Netherbrain! He's real fucking smug that the Dead Three lost when he never seemed to care about the destruction they caused before! He throws a reunion party and many of his lines are genuinely touching or kind! Especially if a companion died permanently! He has tea with Gale's mom and Tara! He's like, socializing and shit! Yes, everything is temporary and we all die, but there's great beauty in fighting for that precious time and living it to the fullest!

Basically Wither's character arc is this meme, all because Helm made him go outside and touch grass.

the thing is that i remain torn about the mason segment in succession because on the one hand i do think it’s a very fun literalization of the constant aa theme of the past always coming back to get you in the way that the past and present in mason are literally intertwined and inseparable, and i like the framing of it as from phoenix in an unreliable narrator sense, where mason says ‘phoenix is so caught up in this thing that happened to him 7 years ago that he is continually retelling it but saying well, what if i had had the perfect info and what if i knew then what i know now and what if i had figured it out right away?’ which is such a fascinating and fun type of obsession with a past event (and even more fun in that it’s actively a lie because the story that mason tells is literally impossible, and yet phoenix is presenting it to the court as true!)

HOWEVER (and this is where i feel justified as a flashback hater) the issue is that especially in a game that is so much about performance, presentation, and facade, i think it’s narratively a hugely wasted opportunity to only hear phoenix’s presentation of events, AND the second day investigation time slot it takes up takes a massive chunk of time away from the rest of our cast and character development they could have had. in the ideal version of succession (to me) the second investigation day is apollo trying to get the full story out of trucy, klavier, and phoenix, giving all of them a chance to lie and present the story in the way that they see it, granting us character insight into how they each feel about the magnifi case and how it continues to affect them (a thing i want for trucy especially badly). i went into the second court day of succession feeling hugely disconnected from the three in the courtroom because apollo had been told this information offscreen and i didn’t know how he felt about it, and instead of piecing together what had happened along with him as the case proceeds, you get told what happened in an (albeit pretty fun) side investigation. so i don’t know! i don’t know. i still feel like succession didn’t land for me like it could and i think both the flashback case and mason are at fault but also. mason is thematically interesting. anyways while im here you can make vegan chocolate mousse with vegan whipped topping and cocoa powder and that’s it. probably 1/2 cup cocoa powder to a pint of whipped topping? pretty good
