For a fandom who overanalyzes words like "here", "back" and "coming out" every chance they get, you sure are bad at listening and watching other scenes when they're being played out.

The rose-colored glasses come off only around month four of their relationship, and even then a tint of soft dusky pink remains like a filter in front of Buck's eyes.
He knows Tommy's sense of humor is dryer than Death Valley, and he tends towards morbid commentary, but Buck finds tapeworms and maggots fascinating, so they match in that aspect anyhow.
What Buck doesn't clock at first - because it doesn't happen to him - is how bitchy Tommy can be.
--
Eddie shows up for movie night with a moustache over his upper lip.
Tommy raises his eyebrows. He radiates judgment. "You're branching out to being a porn star or is this a tribute to Eddie Guerrero?"
Buck doesn't even know who Eddie Guerrero is, but Eddie Diaz definitely does, going by the narrowing of his eyes, and he punches Tommy's shoulder none-too-gently about it.
Tommy pretends to stagger. "I didn't even make a comment about lying, cheating and stealing."
"Fuck you, Kinard."
"I got Evan for that," Tommy snarks back.
After the movie, Eddie dumps the remaining popcorn into Tommy's hair. Tommy wrestles Eddie to the ground, and feeds him a handful he snatches out of his curls. Buck is laughing too much to separate them.
--
"You're here to eat dinner, not each other's faces," Chimney says with a roll of his eyes.
"It's not like I'm scarring your child," Tommy drawls. "I'm sorry you're insecure about seeing two super hot hunks showing affection. Go kiss your wife about it."
"Don't tease him," Maddie scolds. "And behave."
Tommy ducks his head. "Sorry, Maddie."
Buck scratches the tip of his nose, because he's the one who has been running the top of his foot up and down Tommy's calf.
But then Tommy leans over the table to kiss Chimney on the forehead and gazes intently into his eyes. "Sorry, gorgeous. Next time, if I'm allowed, I'll eat your face."
While Chimney sputters, Buck smacks Tommy on his tricep.
"You have my permission," Maddie says, grinning.
"You don't have mine," Buck growls.
Chimney sputters, "Maddie!"
"I'm not insecure seeing two hot hunks make out in front of me," Maddie says, taking a sip of her wine with an arched brow and a wink.
--
They're cut off by a motorcyclist in a plaid shirt, blasting heavy metal as it goes, weaving in and out of the traffic on the freeway.
"Inconsiderate jerk," Buck grumbles.
"Nah, not that inconsiderate." Tommy drums his fingers on the wheel, his shades making him look like an A-list movie star. "He's wearing graph paper. Easy to calculate how much of a waste of space he is."
Buck almost chokes on his iced coffee.
--
"...and then Uncle Tommy said to Jessica Denson, 'I would call your parents, but I doubt they wanna talk about their biggest disappointment'," Mara says, a huge gleeful smile on her face.
Hen looks askance at Tommy, who shrugs unrepentantly. "What? She was taunting Mara about being adopted."
"And you're absolutely right to say that," Karen says, holding up a hand for a high five, and Tommy gives it to her.
Buck sighs. "Sorry, Hen."
She makes a face. "Nah. She deserves that. But next time, you pick her up."

Summary: Both Evan's wife and daughter have a lot of allergies between them. So Evan does everything he can to look after them and keep them safe.
Enjoy.

Tumblr media
"Alright, and I am-" Evan turned on his heels, a tender smile on his face that faded into a gruesome grimace when something bashed into his chest the moment he spun round. His arms lifted in the air and his chest tightened and sucked in but it didn't make a difference. The carton of milk in Chimney's hands was no well and truly soaked into Evan's shirt and trousers. "-Out."
He muttered defeatedly under his breath, lowering his arms to his sides before he tipped his head back and let a groan break past his lips.
"Fuck,"
"Sorry Buck," Chimney scrunched his nose and pursed his lips as he looked up at his friend with guilt in his eyes.
"This will be my third shower of the day." Evan pulled his plain grey shirt away from his chest but it didn't help. He could feel the milk soaking into his shirt and sending shivers down his legs that were now cold and drenched. Just as he was about to head home. Perfect.
"Why, just go get changed." Ravi pointed over his shoulder towards the stairs, trying to indicate to the locker room downstairs. There was no point going for another shower if he had a change of clothes in his locker he could get into and just head home.
"No, I need to shower."
"Oh, is, is this your cleanliness thing?"
Chimney looked across at Ravi and shook his head. This was not a conversation he should start and it wasn't the right time to get into that either. He could see the grimace on Evan's face at the mention of it. But Ravi noticed the same as everyone else that Evan showered as soon as he got to the station and then again before he left after shift. And Ravi had seen the way Evan would thoroughly wash his hands after touching certain things like they were contagious.
"Didn't you hear?" A colleague Ravi knew to be called Adam passed by Evan, giving him a rather dirty look as if he wanted to rile him up before he wandered over to the table Ravi was sitting at. "Buck's little wife is allergic to everything. Even him."
Adam scoffed around his coffee cup, seemingly unaware that now he had Chimney, Hen and Eddie all furiously glaring at him like he had shot someone right in front of them. Not everyone in the team knew about Evan's home situation and Adam had overheard and put a few pieces together, badly.
"What the fuck did you just say?"
Evan let go of his shirt and turned round on his heels, blazing fury burning deep within his blue eyes when he stared at the person he thankfully never had the pleasure of working with. Adam was rotated on most of Evan's opposite shifts and they never had to work closely when they were out on a big call.
"It's the truth, isn't it? You keep her wrapped up in a little bubble of protection because she's a hypocondriac."
"Why don't you come and say that to my face?"
Evan clenched his hands into fists at his sides and took three daring steps closer to Adam who was taking small sips of his coffee with one hand casually leant against the table, propping himself up at an angle. One step closer and he would be within reach to smash his fist into Adam's face and enjoy the burning pain it would cause them both. Evan hadn't been in many fights in his life but he was no stranger to throwing punches and he could start a brawl right here in the station kitchen if he wanted to.
Adam didn't look like he would be much of an opponent to beat in a fight and after what he just said, Evan was ready to let loose on him.
How dare he stand there and spout rumours that weren't true and talk as if he knew (Y/n). Adam had never met her before, the only one of the team who had met (Y/n) was Chimney and that was only because he had come round to Evan's house with Maddie. Bobby knew about (Y/n) but he had never met her before. Adam knew nothing about her and Evan and yet here he was, stood making jibes and accusations.
Before anyone could stop him, Evan stepped forward and scrunched Adam's shirt up in his fists, yanking him off the table and pulling him closer until they were so close their noses were almost touching. Evan's upper lip curled into a snarl and his eyes darkened when Adam visibly paled in front of him but stayed silent.
Maybe he didn't think Evan would try and start a brawl right here in front of everyone.
"Go on, say it again."
"Alright that's enough!" Reaching over, Hen curled her hands around Evan's bicep as Eddie did the same to his other arm and they both wrenched him back. They pulled him five feet back towards the balcony so he couldn't throw the first punch and be suspended for fighting. That wasn't what anybody needed. And none of them wanted Bobby to come up and find out what was going on between them.
"He's not worth it," Eddie whispered quietly as he patted Evan's shoulder and gave him a certain, knowing look.
"Go get a shower and go home," Hen pointed towards the stairs and gave him a stern look. She was too tired to play referee to a fight this afternoon. But when she turned to look at Adam, her calm expression turned sour. "And you better disappear before you say something that'll get you suspended."
No one was going to give Adam any leeway or slack when he had just insulted Evan's wife in front of them all. He was aiming to rattle Evan's cage and cause an argument, he always was and Evan's family was the one thing that would always provoke him.
Evan jerked his arms out of Hen's grasp when she tried to turn him in the direction of the stairs. He held his hands out and huffed, sending one last glare over at Adam before he marched down the stairs for another shower. And Adam walked to the other side of the annex towards the sofa, seeing he clearly wasn't wanted around the kitchen unless he was willing to sit with the cold shoulder and silent treatment.
Evan slammed his locker open, revelling in the way it smashed into Eddie's locker and left a small dint in the metal. He shrugged off his shirt and tossed it down to the floor before he rummaged in his locker for a towel. He knew better than to try and touch the clean set of clothes in his locker before he'd had a wash. That would risk contaminating his new clothes with the milk that was slowly soaking into him and making him feel sticky and uncomfortable.
"What do you want, probie?" His head tilted back as he threw his towel over his shoulder. Evan didn't need to turn around to know the presence he felt behind him was Ravi, lurking sheepishly in the doorway.
When he turned around, he shut his locker and slumped his shoulders back against the locker, arching his back so his spine clicked into place. His arms folded over his chest, puffing out his arms and his bare chest as he raised a brow and waited impatiently for a response.
"I- I just wanted to uh, apologise. I didn't mean to cause an argument back there."
"Why? You didn't insult my wife." Evan pushed off the locker and looked down at his hands that started to grab and mess with the frayed end of the towel on his shoulder. "And just for the record, she isn't allergic to everything."
He wasn't sure why he was explaining himself. There was nothing Evan had to say to Ravi or anyone else, he didn't have to explain his situation. Bobby was the only one Evan told at first because he was Captain and he had a right to know why Evan could get so tetchy and pent up. But once he got close to the rest of the team, he eventually told them too. Hen was his friend, he confided in her. Chimney was practically his brother in law now that he was with Maddie and Eddie was his best friend. They were his family.
It was the rest of the station that Evan didn't trust. He didn't talk to them all as closely as the little group they had within their team and not everyone was kind. Some people were snarky, like Adam.
"Oh… yeah, I'm sure she isn't." Ravi held his hands together behind his back before he took a daring step into the locker room. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm just great. Someone who's never even met my wife has just insulted her to my face. Do you know what it's like for us?" Evan knew his pain was talking for him. A lot of the team understood even if they couldn't fully associate with what he and (Y/n) had to go through.
"What do you mean?"
"(Y/n)'s allergic to a lot of things, if I get my gear messed up I take it home to wash. I washed my clothes here on my second day at the station, and when I went home to hug my wife, we ended up in the emergency room. She was allergic to the detergent we use here."
That had been a bad day. Evan had gone home with the intention of telling (Y/n) how strange and full on his first two days at the station had been. But when he wrapped his arms around her, suddenly she couldn't breathe. Her skin came out in a rash, her throat swelled and they had to go to the hospital for three hours because she had a bad reaction to whatever Evan washed his clothes with at the station.
"Most creams and sprays bring her out in a rash, I don't wear aftershave anymore because she can't breathe around me if I do. I wash when I come on shift and before I leave so I don't take any substances of creams or dust home that might affect (Y/n). We leave the house with two EpiPens for emergencies that always happen and you wouldn't believe the food she can't have."
Evan had never met someone with so many allergies as (Y/n). He used to be so nervous going out on dates but his first date with (Y/n) had gone amazingly well, right until he kissed her. His aftershave made her breathless and started her off coughing. So far he had only found two very faint sprays that didn't affect (Y/n).
A lot of food she couldn't have like fish, nuts and eggs.
She used the same creams and body wash and cleaning soaps that didn't give her a reaction. That meant if she or Evan bought new clothes, they went straight in the wash when they got home before they were worn.
(Y/n)'s life was made up of risks and calculations in case she got ill and Evan had to take the same precautions because he loved the bones of his wife and didn't want to risk her health.
"Like milk?"
A small smile tugged at Evan's lips and he looked down at his damp trousers and shook his head.
"Actually, no. (Y/n) isn't allergic to milk, but somehow my daughter is. My house is the equivelant of a clean room to protect my girls."
Evan had been more than relieved when their numerous hospital trips showed that Bella wasn't allergic to everything like (Y/n) was. She had taken after Evan, he had given her some of his immunity which he thanked God for. But Bella had some allergies of her own, she hadn't fully escaped (Y/n)'s curse.
Bella reacted badly to detergents, lavender, plasters and was highly allergic to milk.
To look after his family, Evan had to scrub himself clean after each shift and he couldn't get into the jeep without making sure he'd had a shower first because his family often went in the jeep with him. He couldn't risk taking any allergens home with him and setting one of his girls off. It wasn't worth the risk.
He took every precaution he could to protect his girls.
***
(Y/n) paused wih her fingers dragging halfway through her damp hair when she heard the bathroom door open. Her head turned to look over her shoulder and she strained to try and hear the footsteps in the bathroom to decipher whether it was her husband or her daughter that had walked in.
A shiver rattled down her spine and sent goosebumps rising up on her skin when the shower door opened and Evan poked his head round the door.
"What are you doing?" (Y/n) took a step closer to the wall and pressed her lips together tightly to smother her laugh when he walked in to join her. She was relieved when he shut the door so the draft finally stopped and the water created another aroma of steam to circle around them.
She let her hand drop from her hair and her eyes closed automatically when his arms circled around her waist.
"Joining you." Evan tucked his face into (Y/n)'s neck and pressed his lips against her wet, burning skin. He felt the water drip down and flatten his curls and when it traced down the bridge of his nose and fell onto (Y/n)'s shoulder, he felt her shiver against him.
"Where's Bella?" (Y/n) opened her eyes and looked down when she felt Evan's hands curve round from her hips to grab and squeeze at her waist. His thumb brushed up and down her skin against the water cascading down around them and (Y/n) took a sharp breath when he suddenly bit down on her neck like a vampire.
"Organising the trucks in her room, she's happy."
He had just left Bella's room where she was sat on the floor, lining up, moving and re-organising all her toy fire trucks. Ever since Evan joined the station and told Bella what he did for his job, she had become infatuated and now the trucks were her favourite thing to play with. She would be more than happy and content for a little while if Evan snook away to find out where (Y/n) had got to.
He caught a glimpse of (Y/n)'s dazzling yet shy smile before she turned her head and buried her nose in his hair so she could kiss his damp forehead. The touch made Evan smile against her skin that he was still kissing and nipping at like he was doing his best to create bruises all along her neck.
Taking care to be slow, (Y/n) turned around so she was facing him and dragged her fingertips up his biceps and over his shoulders until she could cup the back of his neck. Her thumbs smoothed across the side of his jaw but she gasped as Evan's hands dug into her hips and he moved her back until she was pressed against the tiles.
They were like ice cubes sticking to her burning skin and the mix of hot and cold made her shake until Evan tilted his head down so their foreheads were pressed together. Most of the water from the shower trickled down the back of Evan's neck but the leftover droplets fell down his forehead and jumped onto (Y/n)'s skin.
She liked the way the water dripped down from his pale pink lips and jumped free from his chin. Each droplet made (Y/n)'s chest tighten until she pushed her hands against his neck and pulled him down to her level. Her fingertips stayed pressed into his skin as she connected his lips down to hers.
She sucked his lower lip between her teeth and gave a little bite until Evan growled and pulled her chest up against his.
His hands moved so he had one arm wrapped around her waist and the other moved to grip the underside of her thigh. (Y/n) could feel his fingertip pinching into her skin so he had a good grip and she squeaked when he hoisted her up. He kept her shoulders pressed against the tiles and pulled her leg until she took the hint and wrapped both legs around his hips so she was sitting on his torso.
"Evan…" She muttered his name against his lips and he seemed to swallow up her moans with deep kisses and a smirk that spread across his face.
"Don't you wanna christen the new bathroom?" His voice was deeper than before and his eyes were hooded and each drop of water that fell from his lashes mesmerised (Y/n). She could feel his chest vibrating with a mix between a growl and a laugh when all she could do was groan against his lips.
They had been in their new house all of a week and Evan was making it his mission to 'christen' each room in the house. The bathroom was next on his list.
"You're insatiable."
Glancing over her shoulder, (Y/n) grinned across at Evan who had his back to her and quickly grabbed his shirt he'd left on the floor. She pulled it over her head and moved to tie her hair up in a loose bobble since it was still dripping wet from their combined shower.
"I believe that's mine."
Adrenaline sparked in (Y/n)'s stomach and she gasped when Evan reeled his free arm out and coiled it around her waist, wrenching her into his chest causing her to stumble over her feet. Her fingers latched around his arm and she leaned her head back on his bare shoulder, smiling innocently up at him.
He looked rather comical, stood in front of the sink with only a towel wrapped around his waist and shaving cream smeared across his chin, upper lip and down his neck.
Evan dropped his other hand into the sink, dipping the razor in the water and he couldn't resist leaning down to kiss her when she smiled up at him like that. His fingers danced across her stomach and he rubbed his nose against hers, smearing the shaving cream across her lips and down her chin as she squirmed in his arm and wiggled against his chest.
"Evan," (Y/n) groaned and glared up at him, wriggling her bum into his crotch to irritate him before she shimmied from his hold and reached out for the hand towel. She knew he was only teasing and it wasn't as if his shaving cream was something she was allergic to. Evan's shower gel, shampoo and shaving foam were all non-fragrance and he got the basic sensitive ones so (Y/n) wouldn't have a reaction to any of them.
She swiped the cream from her face just as Evan hooked two fingers into the back of her leggings just above her bum and reeled her close again.
"You've already christened the shower, what are you aiming for next? The sink?"
"Wouldn't be the first time. Care to recall Maddie's thirtieth birthday party?" Evan teased as he began dragging the razor along his neck and up over his chin while he dipped his right hand into her leggings.
"I remember bumping into your mother on the way out that bathroom." (Y/n) scowled up at her husband when a cheesy grin appeared behind the shaving foam he was shaving away. That had been a good party, one of the best they had thrown and (Y/n) could barely remember most of that night.
But she did remember opening the bathroom door and walking straight into Evan's mother. With her hair skewed and coming loose from her bun, bite marks up and down her neck and Evan creeping up behind her to pull down her dress that was scrunched up around her thighs.
(Y/n) was never going through that kind of embarrassment again. She would much rather have an allergic reaction in front of Evan's parents than be caught in the act like that.
Whatever Evan was about to quip back with vanished when they both heard the doorbell ring.
"Door!"
"No, Bella don't open the door!" Evan hollered back as he dropped his razor in the sink and turned around as if he was about to go out and answer the front door himself. It seemed to dawn on him that he wasn't dressed yet, but it wouldn't be the first time he had gone to the front door like this.
He didn't want Bella answering the door. She was only four and it could be anyone at the door.
"I'll go," (Y/n) pecked Evan's bare shoulder and patted her hand against his bum before she unlocked the door and headed out the bathroom. She was the only one who was dressed.
She picked up the pace and hurried down the hall to catch up with her daughter who was hurrying down the hall with one of her miniature fire trucks in her hand. When she got within reach, (Y/n) swooped down and picked Bella up, setting her down on her left hip before she reached the front door.
(Y/n) couldn't think who it would be.
Evan said he wanted to introduce her and Bella to the team, but he was waiting until next week to do that when Bobby was throwing a barbeque. So it couldn't be any of the team coming round to introduce themselves. The only person who knew where they had moved to was Maddie since they had only just moved in this week.
(Y/n) plastered a smile on her face and opened the door a little apprehensively, tightening her arm around Bella when she realised she had no idea who was stood on her porch.
"Hello,"
"Hi neighbour. I'm Mark, I love two doors down and thought I'd come over and introduce myself."
(Y/n)'s lips parted but she stayed silent and a little shocked when the man took a few steps forward and walked inside without even being asked in. He had a plump but sincere smile that creased his eyes that looked rather uncertain and uneasy.
A small 'oh' left (Y/n)'s lips when Mark reached out and took (Y/n)'s free hand to give her a handshake, but he wasn't really looking at (Y/n). He was taking in the decore. They had been relieved when they moved in that the house didn't need much decorating. They painted Bella's room a mix of white and red as she requested, and Evan went round putting up shelves and pictures and hanging frames like they had in their old apartment.
In less than a week it already felt homely and cosy.
"I- I'm (Y/n), and this is Bella." Leaning over, (Y/n) gently placed Bella down to her feet and closed the front door when she realised Mark clearly wanted a conversation before he left.
"She's a sweetie. I've made a fresh batch of cookies, do you want one?" Mark showed the film-wrapped plate in his hand and motioned the plate towards Bella. Her eyes widened and she leaned up on her tiptoes to see what cookies were on the plate.
"That's very kind but she- oh, no she can't have those."
Pushing forward, (Y/n) reached her hand out and tried to gently nudge Mark's hand away when he offered a cookie out to Bella. She was only four and she didn't grasp the concept of not being able to eat certain things. Especially when (Y/n) and Evan got her special sweets and biscuits and cakes made without milk.
Bella presumed every food handed to her was automatically safe because she was being given it.
"Is it just you two?"
"No, my husband's here somewhere," (Y/n) glanced over her shoulder while Bella silently trotted over to the living room to sit down. She hoped Evan would hurry up and get dressed and come out to save her from this conversation. (Y/n) wasn't great with new neighbours. She never knew what to say or how to act. Evan was the boysterous, outgoing one. He fitted in with any crowd and could start up a conversation about anything.
Evan was the outgoing one, (Y/n) was the indoor, introverted one who hid behind his broad frame for safety and security.
Her hands fiddled together in front of her waist when she noticed how close Mark was standing to her. He was about her height, not nearly as tall as Evan who towered over her like a sky scraper.
Moving her hand to her mouth, (Y/n) pretended to rub her nose and did her best to take a deep breath. He was wearing some strong aftershave. Whatever aftershave he had on was one that was making it harder for (Y/n) to take a proper breath when it was flooding up her nose and tightening her chest.
Her eyes widened when she glanced down at her hand. He must have used hand sanitiser before he came round. The whole of (Y/n)'s palm was starting to swell and blotch. Hand sanitiser brought (Y/n) out in a rash, the rubbing alcohol usually made her skin burn and it wasn't good when it was the new social norm with Covid in the air.
"Evan… I'll just go find him."
"Are you okay? Oh, your hand. Let me-"
"No, no I'm… Evan,"
Panic jolted through (Y/n)'s stomach as she took a step back and kept both her arms coiled up against her chest. She couldn't stay standing this close when he was making it harder to breathe in a very, very bad way.
She could feel her panic crumbling into relief when her sights set on Evan walking down the hall. Without making up her excuses, (Y/n) headed to meet Evan halfway, bumping her nose into his chest with how fast she hurried to him.
His hands automatically moved to clamp down on her hips and he smiled as he pressed his lips against her temple, keeping her as close to his bare chest as he could. He'd grabbed a pair of pants and trousers to wear but since (Y/n) had stolen his shirt, he hadn't found another one yet. But his smile faltered against her temple and he leaned his head to the side when his eyes clocked on someone in the living room.
"Who's here?"
"New neighbour, I um… God, he's setting my allergies off." Tilting her head back, (Y/n) pressed her lips together and held her hand up for Evan to inspect. She watched the way his eyes scrutinised her palm and his hand came up to clamp down on her wrist, bringing her hand in for closer inspection.
"Oh baby. I'll get rid of him."
(Y/n) shivered when Evan brought her hand closer and kissed her palm before he turned her round to switch places, keeping her behind him so he could head into the hall and kindly show their guest the door.
"Hi, my wife said- oh, hey no no don't give her that!" Pushing forward, Evan leaned over the back of the sofa that pressed deeply into his abdomen and crunched his belt into his stomach.
As quick as anything, Evan swiped the cookie from Bella's hand just as the man handed it to her. Evan tossed it back on the plate that was on the coffee table before he reached over and gently held Ella by her sides. He effortlessly lifted her up and hoisted her over the back of the sofa so he could cuddle her into his chest. He didn't want her thinking he was mad at her because he wasn't, they were still trying to teach her what allergies meant and show her the foods and items she couldn't have or touch.
Evan kissed her temple and rubbed his hand up and down her back before he looked at the new neighbour who looked a mix between annoyed and perplexed.
"Thank you, but please don't give her anything. Bella's allergic to milk and most cookies are made with butter."
He leaned his cheek against the top of Bella's head but Evan couldn't fight off the unease in his chest when he looked over at the new neighbour. As if he would just come round and try to hand out food to someone else's child. A stranger no less. He had no idea what allergies Bella may or may not have or if certain foods might upset her or make her ill.
It was a nice gesture to bring food round to get to know them, but not to hand food out to their daughter when their backs were turned.
"Is your wife alright?" He seemed to completely miss the point and talk around the subject but Evan didn't have the energy to try and argue. He needed to keep civil because they were new and it wouldn't do them any favours to make enemies in their first week.
They weren't going to be going round to other neighbour's houses anyway, not with (Y/n) and Bella's allergies. The girls barely left the house which was how (Y/n) preferred things.
"I think your aftershave might be setting off her allergies, but she's okay. Thanks for dropping by." Evan tried to be as polite as he could manage but standing three feet away from this man didn't help Evan's own sense of smell. He could understand why (Y/n) could scarcely breathe around this man.
For the last six years Evan had stopped wearing all but one kind of aftershave and even then, he didn't use much of it to be safe. They used the same air freshner and laundry detergents and cleaning products that Evan had gone nose blind to them all. Now he had someone in his home who smelt like a perfume factory and with their home being like a scientific clean room, Evan wasn't too happy to have someone come in and set off his wife's allergies.
She should be able to breathe and be safe in her own home without any reactions.
Evan followed a few feet behind the new neighbour and walked him out, happy to shut the door behind him and sigh in relief. He turned his head to pepper a flurry of kisses against Bella's forehead until she squealed and shimmied around in his arms. She brought her hands up and cupped Evan's face so she could brush their noses together.
"So baby girl, what are we doing today?"

Bobby, pointing at the broken coffee machine: So, who broke it? I'm not mad, I just want to know. Buck: I did. I broke it. Bobby: No you didn't. Chimney? Chimney: Don't look at me, look at Hen! Hen: What! I didn't break it! Chimney: Huh, that's weird. How did you even know it was broken? Hen: Because it's sitting in front of us and it's broken. Chimney: Suspicious! Hen: No it's not! Eddie: If it matters, probably not, but Maddie was the last one to use it. Maddie: Liar! I don't drink that crap when I'm pregnant! Eddie: Oh really, then what were you doing by the coffee machine earlier? Maddie: I was using the wooden stirrers to push back my cuticles, everyone knows that Eddie! Buck: Ok, let's not fight. I broke it. Let me pay for it. Bobby: No! Who broke it! Hen: Bobby, Athena's been awfully quiet lately. Athena: REALLY! [Everyone starts arguing] Bobby: I broke it. It burned my hand so I punched it. I predict that ten minutes from now they'll be at each other's throats with warpaint on their faces and a pig head on a stick.

Come Home And Be(e) With Your Man
Written for @bucktommypositivityweek Round 2! (Day 1: Make your own Season 8 opening disaster) Read on AO3 here!
To say that Buck was exhausted was an understatement. 22 million fucking bees. And hell, if it had been normal honey bees or whatever, that would’ve been fine! Honey bees are cute, little critters who don’t do anything to anyone who doesn’t deserve it, never mind that they’re a necessity for the environment. Honey bees rock! But no, it had been Africanized bees. Twenty-two million killer bees. Why? Just why?
It wasn’t like Buck’s day hadn’t been completely in shambles before that either. Every day was automatically in shambles when Vincent Gerrard was your captain. When he wasn’t getting on Eddie’s case for being “lazy,” he was on Hen’s about “keeping up with the boys,” or throwing mocking questions about Chinese take-out at Chimney. But, as awful as it was, Buck had been prepared for that. Hen, Chim and Tommy had warned him and Eddie about it, and had made him promise not to jump in and punch the son of a bitch in the face first chance he got. Even Eddie, the first time Gerrard threw a casual joke about “the wall” at him, had squeezed Buck’s shoulder and told him that it was fine (it wasn’t) and that it wasn’t anything he hadn’t heard before. Gerrard wasn’t worth getting fired over.
But the thing was, Buck was a minority now, too. He hadn’t really thought about it before, but he was. And the first time Gerrard had decided to call him “fruity,” right after wondering out loud who between him and Tommy was “wearing the pants,” Buck had almost blown a gasket and thrown him over the station loft’s railing. He’d always theoretically known that comments like Gerrard’s hurt, and he had always, even back when he was still in school, gotten pissed off beyond belief when he overheard someone making them toward other people.
Having them directed at himself was completely different though. Working under Gerrard had made him realize just how small, how worthless an attitude like that could make you feel. He wasn’t too proud to admit that he had cried into Tommy’s shoulder the night that had happened either. Buck had tried to play tough at first, but Tommy had known it was an act, and a single “Evan” in that concerned, warm voice of his had been enough to make Buck feel safe enough to let it all out.
So, Gerrard had been reigning in terror for weeks at this point, and then a truck transporting twenty-two million Africanized killer bees had crashed on the highway, letting them lose on the citizens of Los Angeles, because why the fuck not, right?! It was tiring, in more ways than one, and at the end of that shift from hell, (He was half convinced the new C-Shift probie had said the “Q” word, and at least five times, if not more.) Buck hadn’t even bothered to go shower at the station, he just wanted to get out as soon as possible, even if it meant making his jeep reek of sweat and bee.
He wasn’t fully sure how he ended up making it to Tommy’s house, or even up the driveway to the front door. His legs felt like his shoes were made of concrete, Buck being barely able to lift his feet off the ground. Strands of his hair, which he’d left mostly in its naturally curly state because Tommy liked it that way, were sticking uncomfortably to his forehead, making him feel profoundly gross. He really couldn’t wait to stand under some nice, warm water, followed by cuddling up with his nice, beefy boyfriend on the couch to watch literally any movie that didn’t have bees in it, where he would probably fall asleep on Tommy’s shoulder, with his arms embracing him.
Even thinking about it made Buck feel full of bliss.
The moment he unlocked and opened the front door, (They had exchanged keys a month ago. Buck’s stomach had fluttered for days after, every time he remembered.) Buck was hit with the mouthwatering, unmistakable scent of Nonna Ricci’s special ragù. Tommy was making Arancini, a dish Buck had fallen in love with the moment he had taken a bite out of one. The smell alone was enough to slightly lift the weight on Buck’s shoulders.
Following the trail through Tommy’s living room into the kitchen, he found his boyfriend at the stove, his back to the door, fishing the crispy, perfectly golden rice balls out of the pot-turned-makeshift-deep fryer. He was humming a cheery tune as he worked, seemingly oblivious to Buck’s presence. Buck, in turn, simply leaned against the door frame and watched Tommy work for a moment. His eyes traced over Tommy’s broad shoulders, the way his back muscles flexed with every little movement, the way he was slightly swinging his hips left to right and left again in perfect sync with his little melody.
Almost subconsciously, Buck moved over toward Tommy, who now shot a small look over his shoulder with a small smirk on his lips. Wiggling his eyebrows a little, (and making Buck’s stomach do somersaults in the process) he turned back toward the stove, while Buck finally reached him and wrapped his arms around Tommy’s waist, his nose instantly landing in the crook of Tommy’s neck. The slight scent of vanilla and sandalwood on Tommy’s skin told Buck that his boyfriend had already showered himself, which didn’t really surprise him. With the whole ass bee-nado that had descended onto the city, clearly AirOps had pushed overtime the same as the 118 and, well, probably every station in LA.
“Hey, baby, how are-oof,” Tommy began before he got cut off by Buck collapsing against his back. Buck would feel sorry, but he couldn’t bring himself to right now. His legs had been shaky with exhaustion since he’d left the station, and Tommy was big, and broad, and firm and Buck just couldn’t help using him to lean on for a moment. If Tommy’s low chuckle was anything to go by, he really didn’t mind. “Didn’t even need to ask, huh?”
“I hate bees.”
Tommy let out a loud laugh at that and turned off the stove, the last of the arancini having been fished out of the hot oil. He slowly turned around in Buck’s arms, Buck lifting his head with a small whine at not being able to smell Tommy anymore. Tommy, not missing a beat, quickly silenced him with a soft kiss and reached up to card his fingers through Buck’s hair, an action that never ceased to help Buck relax.
“Yeah, I get it,” Tommy mumbled against Buck’s lips. “A whole bunch of them almost got into my cockpit during a MedEvac call. I don’t want to know what it was like actually having to deal with them hands-on.”
Buck hummed and moved his arms from Tommy’s hips to wrap them tightly around his lower back. His nose found Tommy’s neck once more, that beautiful scent entering his system again, almost like a drug he’d been on withdrawal from. Tommy wasted no time in burying his own face in Buck’s curls, tenderly nuzzling against his temple.
“Don’t do that, I’m filthy.”
“Mhm, sure, but I like you when you’re filthy.”
Tommy’s voice was low and playful, sending a shiver down Buck’s spine. His hands were gentle as they roamed Buck’s back, tracing soothing patterns that somehow made Buck feel like the weight of the day was finally lifting off his shoulders. It was moments like this that Buck simply couldn’t have with anyone else. He tried picturing coming home to Taylor like this, sweaty, and smelly, and tired, both mentally and physically. He was certain she’d be sympathetic and quick to agree to a nice, lazy evening in front of the TV, but there was no way in hell she would’ve flirted with him like that while he was in this state.
“Yeah? Well, this is a new level of filthy, Tommy,” Buck murmured into the warm skin of Tommy’s neck, inhaling deeply. He didn’t care if he was gross and covered in sweat and bee guts; in this moment, he just needed to be close, to feel Tommy solid and warm against him.
Tommy pulled back slightly, just enough to catch Buck’s gaze. His eyes were soft, and full of that gentle understanding that Buck had grown to love more than anything. (The L word had been on his mind quite a bit lately, but he ignored it for now. It was way too soon for any of that anyway.) He brushed a stray curl away from Buck’s forehead and let his thumb linger, softly caressing Buck’s cheek. “Shower, then food, yeah? I’ve got some fresh towels in the bathroom for you.”
Buck nodded, his exhaustion seeping back in as Tommy’s suggestion sank in. As much as he wanted to just melt into Tommy and let the world disappear, he knew he’d feel a million times better after a hot shower. Especially if said shower wasn’t alone. “Yeah, okay,” he sighed, his voice barely above a whisper. He still managed to put on an at least passable flirty smile. “I, uh, I could definitely use…a shower.”
Tommy pressed another quick kiss to Buck’s lips, his hand lingering on Buck’s neck, squeezing reassuringly. “I’ll have everything ready by the time you’re out,” he promised. “And we can just crash after, alright? Nothing but couch, blankets, and the worst movie we can find.”
With that, Tommy stepped out of Buck’s embrace and moved over to the refrigerator. Buck blinked several times as he watched Tommy take out a head of iceberg lettuce, which he took to the sink to wash it. What…was Tommy doing? Buck briefly wondered if Tommy was trolling him, but that didn’t seem to be something he’d do, at least not after a day like this.
“Uh, babe?” he asked, getting Tommy’s attention. His hands were tearing the lettuce apart, the loose leaves landing in a large strainer Tommy always used to wash his veggies. Focusing on Tommy’s hands, however brief it may have been, actually made Buck almost salviate, so he met Tommy’s questioning look with a dark, heated one of his own. “I said I could use a shower.”
The exaggerated head movements toward the general direction of Tommy’s bathroom seemed to do the trick. Tommy’s mouth formed an enlightened “O” as he realized what Buck was playing at, right before he dropped the whole head of lettuce into the strainer. He seemingly forgot about it entirely right after as he walked toward the door in quick strides, pulling his henley over his head and throwing it aside to the kitchen floor in one fluid motion in the process.
With a wide grin, Buck followed suit, his own shirt quickly joining Tommy’s. As he followed Tommy out into the living room while opening his belt, Buck couldn’t help but let out a happy sigh. He had this now. He had Tommy. Tommy, who was supportive, who got what the job was like, who knew how to help him take the edge of.
Tommy, who was always there, always constant, always knew what to do.
Tommy, who Buck was sure he was in love with. And though it may be too soon to say those words exactly, Buck wasn’t scared about feeling them.
He was in love with Tommy Kinard. And he loved every second of it.

Meeting in Bathena's house
Bobby: *Pointing at the broken coffee machine.* So. Who broke it? I'm not mad, I just wanna know.
Buck: ...I did. I broke it.
Bobby: No. No you didn't. Chimney?
Chimney: Don't look at me. Look at Hen.
Hen: What?! I didn't break it.
Chimney: Huh, that's weird. How'd you even know it was broken?
Hen: Because it's sitting right in front of us and it's broken!
Chimney: Suspicious.
Hen: No it's not!
Eddie: If it matters, probably not, but Josh was the last one to use it.
Josh: Liar! I don't even drink that crap!
Eddie: Oh really? Then what were you doing by the coffee cart earlier?
Josh: I use the wooden stirrers to push back my cuticles. Everyone knows that!
Buck: Okay let's not fight. I broke it. Let me pay for it, Cap.
Bobby: No! Who broke it!?
Chimney: Bobby...Tommy's been awfully quiet.
Tommy: REALLY?!
*Everyone starts arguing.*
Bobby: I broke it. I burned my hand so I punched it. I predict 10 minutes from now they'll be at each other's throats with warpaint on their faces and a pig head on a stick.

👊- The Eddie Punches Tommy Fic
Titled: "He's Not a Saint (And He's Not What You Think)"
----------
“God, I fucked up Chimney,” his voice sounded wet, as if he had started crying. “I said- God, I said so much awful shit to him that I didn’t even mean, I was just- I was so upset about this morning with Tommy, and this whole situation has had me just so- confused that I don’t even know… God, he probably hates me now.”
“Eddie Diaz may hate a lot of things, but one thing he could never hate is you,” Chimney rubbed his hand on Buck’s back. “He may be hurt and upset with you right now… but he’s hurt and upset because of how much he cares for you.”
“I don’t know if I can talk to him after this,” Buck said, lifting his head up, tears streaking down his face.
“You can,” Chimney assured him. “You just need to give him some time first… who you really need to talk to right now is-”
“Tommy,” Buck sighed. “I’ve already talked to him time and time again about the sex thing, but he never wants to listen.”
“Buck, I shouldn’t have to tell you that that isn’t-” Chimney began carefully.
“Buckley, what the hell are you still doing here?” Gerrard’s voice boomed from behind them. “I gave you a goddamn order and I expect you to follow that order. Suspended until further notice- so get the hell out of here.”
Buck didn’t even reply, just stood and made his way to leave the locker room.
“And wipe those damn tears off your face,” Gerrard spat. “I know you’re a sissy, but you don’t normally act like one. Don’t start it now just because I’ve hurt your poor sensitive feelings.”
Chimney watched as Buck stopped in his tracks, his fist clenching at his side, and for a moment, Chimney thought he might turn around and punch Gerrard square in the face, but that didn’t happen. Buck simply continued to walk out of the firehouse, Chimney standing in the locker room still.
Gerrard turned towards him, glancing him up and down before speaking, “Go clean the toilets before lunch Han. If they’re clean enough before lunch then I might consider not writing you up for sitting around on the job.”
With that, Gerrard turned and left. Once he was gone, Chimney pulled his phone out and shot off a quick text to the group chat he was in with Maddie, Hen, Karen.
Chimney: After shift tomorrow- our place, 11 AM. We have a lot to talk about with the idiots situation.
Karen: good god, is this a day drinking conversation? if it is then i’ll bring the good wine
Maddie <3: Any conversation about those two is a drinking conversation.
Chimney: Karen bring the wine, I’ll stop for a charcuterie board after I get off shift.
Karen: oh so this is a CONVERSATION conversation…
Hen: Can confirm- it is indeed that much of a CONVERSATION
Maddie <3: God, I need that wine just thinking about it
*Chimney Emphasized Maddie <3’s Message*

Fuck it Friday

it's World Junior season and no one has scored on Sweden yet. I've consumed so much hockey the last three days and now I'm back on my NHL AU bullshit because even though my NHL team is actively hurting me at every turn, this stupid sport and fic are still fun for me. I may have shared this excerpt before, but I don't think I have.
“He's from Texas. They don’t even have ice in Texas,” Buck mutters. He knows that he’s being a shithead about it, it’s just he’s their star defensemen and he’s maybe still nursing a minor wounded ego about Diaz going higher than him in the draft.  Four years ago.  Whatever.  He’s better than Diaz.  It’s just that Diaz is actually really fucking good. He’s fast as hell and he plays really pretty hockey. His hands are so soft that sometimes when Buck watches him he wonders why he doesn’t play forward, but then he sees Diaz’s back check and he remembers the guy plays amazing defense too. It’s annoying.  “Eddie, come meet the guys,” Bobby says, gesturing for Diaz to join them.  Diaz finished putting on his shirt and jogs over to them, a wide grin on his face.  “Eddie, this is Chimney and Buck,” Bobby gestures as he speaks. “And this is our skating coach - Henrietta Wilson.” “Oh, I know Eddie,” Hen appears from basically out of nowhere. “Hey Hen,” Eddie pulls her into a hug. “Can’t thank you enough for the work you did with me this summer.” Buck looks between Hen and Diaz with a frown. He shouldn't know Hen already, even if hockey is a small community, it’s not that small. Buck huffs and spends the first day of camp trying to one up Diaz in all the lifting drills they do. He ends the day exhausted and a little pissed that Diaz is as good off the ice as he is on it.  He rushes through his cool down so he can get away from Diaz before Buck does something stupid like punch him for beating him in their unofficial squat contest or drop to his knees to suck him off for how fucking pretty his snapshot is.

Consider: Buck has only just gotten fully comfortable in his sexuality and has to deal with a homophobic captain, Hen never told Gerard about her being a lesbian, she wants to prepare him but not even she knows how bad it will be.
Hen immediately gets judged, criticised and picked on in general for her race, gender and sexuality. Buck, however, is on Gerard’s good side, to Gerard Buck is just a straight, white, cis man. He’s a “real firefighter”.
Until Tommy picks Buck up from work and gives him a little kiss and Gerard sees. From that point on it’s hell. Buck has never had to deal with discrimination first-hand before and he doesn’t feel safe in his own home (the firehouse). He starts to hate who he is and Tommy being there only makes it worse, Tommy keeps telling him to keep his head down, don’t retaliate and most importantly: Don’t be Buck.
All the sudden Buck starts acting weird, Eddie notices, then Hen, then Chim. They all understand and try to help in their own way, Hen probably tries to get him to interact with more queer people (including Karen), Chimney tries to get his mind off of it and Eddie tries not to punch Gerard in the face. It seems to be working at least a little and then Chimney brings it up to Maddie one day when they get home from work and she is PISSED.
I can see her walking into that firehouse and absolutely ripping him to shreds. Saying stuff like how sad it is that he’s practically 90 years old and still feels the need to degrade people just to feel good about himself or that he had to become a captain just so people would listen to his sorry-ass. (Obviously she would be more adult about it but still)

Evan and Tommy are sitting at the table in Evan’s loft, a couple of beers in front of them and relaxing now that the clean up from dinner is done.
“So, how’s Bobby handling retirement?” Tommy asks.
“Still fighting to come back, but he does start a temporary gig tomorrow.” Evan answers. “He’s going to be a technical advisor on Hotshots.”
Tommy looks impressed. “That’s a big deal. That show is huge.”
Evan shrugged, “I’ve never seen it.”
“What do you mean, you’ve never watched Hotshots? How could you miss it. It’s been the hottest show on TV for the past 2 years.” Tommy’s voice is filled with incredulity as he stares at Evan. “We have viewing parties at Harbor, even the off shift crew comes in if they don’t need to sleep.”
Evan lifts a hand to rub the back of his neck and shrugs sheepishly. “I know it exists, I’ve seen the billboards, it’s just….” he trails off and looks towards the ceiling, his go to move when he’s being evasive.
“What, did you sleep with the star during your Buck 1.0 days?” Tommy teases him.
“Not the star.” Buck takes a breath and fiddles with his beer bottle, tearing strips off the outside as he talks. “So, you are not the first TK that I’ve dated. I used to be off and on with Taylor Kelly.”
Tommy interrupts “The Taylor Kelly who wrote a tell all about the 118? That was your ex-girlfriend? What a bitch.”
“Yeah, well, we weren’t a good fit. Anyways, after she published the book it got picked up for development and Hotshots was the end result. I think she’s even working on the show as a consultant. I didn’t read her book and I’m not about to watch her show.”
“I can’t believe I didn’t put that together.” Tommy sits back, a thoughtful look on his face. “So does that mean the characters on the show are based on the 118?” He cocks his head and studies Evan and then slaps his hand down on the table. “Holy shit, you’re Sandy.”
“Sandy?” Evan asks, his nose wrinkling adorably in confusion.
“Blaine “Sandy” Sanderson. He’s kind of the show’s punching bag. Last season an ambulance rolled over on top of him during an earthquake and crushed his arm.  This year the season opener had him trapped in a mudslide with his best friends kid.”
Evan takes a slow pull on his beer as he processes that. “Why do you think I’m Sandy?”
“Well, he gets hurt a lot, he’s a daredevil, he’s got a heart of gold, he’s a bit naive, and he always has a collection of fun facts that relate to the rescue at hand.”
“And that’s what you think of me?” Evan asks with a frown.
“No, baby. But superficially it matches up.” Tommy reaches out to cover Evan’s hand with his own.
“Okay.” Even still looks put out, but a little intrigued. “So, what about the other characters?”
Tommy sits back and purses his lips. “Well, Bea is obviously a stand in for Hen, and Shaft must be Chimney.”
Evan interrupts “Shaft?”
“A nickname they never bother to explain.”
Evan nods. “Yeah, we never did tell her how Chimney got his name. Who else?”
“Well, the captain’s name is Billy, but everyone calls him Cap and he’s married to a police detective named Artemis.”
“And you’re just now putting this together?” Even quirks an eyebrow at Tommy.
Tommy holds up his hands in defense. “Hey, I wasn’t exactly expecting to see my old house on the hottest show on television. I started watching before I met you.”
“So is that it? Me, Cap, ‘Thena, Hen and Chim?”
Tommy looks away and shifts in his seat. “There’s also Ricky.”
“Ricky?”
Tommy sighs. “Ricardo “Ricky” Noches. Air Force veteran, single dad to an autistic kid, and Sandy’s best friend.”
“She made Chris autistic?” The outrage is clear in Evan’s voice. “I know she didn’t spend much time with him, but that is supremely uncool.” Evan sinks back in his seat, a look of frustration on his face.
“There’s more.” Tommy says matter of factly.
Evan huffs. “Alright, lay it on me. How much worse can it get.”
Tommy hums and looks around the room, avoiding eye contact with Evan. “There’s a significant portion of the fan base for the show that “ships” Sandy and Ricky.”
“Ships?” Evan says, his face a mask of confusion.
“It means they think they should be in a romantic relationship. Their ship name is Randy.” Tommy says.
Evan sinks into his seat, his brow furrowed. “So, the people who watch this show, based on my life, think that I should be, what, dating Eddie?”
Tommy holds his breath and nods.
Evan stares at him for a long moment, a riot of expressions crossing his face, before he bursts out in laughter. It takes him a few minutes to get himself under control, the giggles rising each time he thinks he’s ready to speak.
He finally wipes away the tears from his laughing jag. “That would be an epic disaster. Don’t get me wrong, I love him like a brother, but he has more trauma than me, and that’s saying something.”
Tommy lets out a breath of relief. “I’ll pass that on to Donato.”
“Lucy?” Evan shoots him a look of confusion.
“Oh, yeah, she’s a big Randy fan.  Spends way too much time on shift reading fan fiction.”
Evan lifts an eyebrow at him. “Do you think she knows?”
“That it’s based on people she knows?”
“Yeah.”
Tommy hmphs. “I’ll be sure to tell her.”

Ok clipboard proposal part 3.2
Pt 1 | Pt 2 | Pt 3 | AO3
One by one everyone notices something is up with Buck.
Eddie notices it when Buck doesn’t jump to make him his best man (or even Chris…)
Hen notices it when he isn’t taking advantage of the nice fancy new clipboard they all so graciously — foolishly — gifted him at the proposal.
Bobby notices it when he’s not asked to officiate.
Maddie notices it when he doesn’t mention Jee being their flower girl.
Chimney notices it when he makes a joke about bachelor party payback and Buck looks like he’s just been punched in the face.
“Ah… there it is,” he says to himself as he watches Buck scurry off. The excuse of needing to be somewhere to do something and Chim is sure Buck doesn’t have the slightest idea what either of those are.
Chimney gathers everyone, fills them in on the feeling he has that Buck has finally figured out a way to punish himself for something he deems to be his fault… by taking it away from himself as well.
They are going to confront him when he comes back to work after his two days off… but on the second day Tommy calls Maddie saying Buck wants to elope.
“You really were just gonna pull a Bobby and Athena on us Buckaroo?” Chimney says, being the first to step through the court house doors. Buck looks at Tommy, and there’s no betrayal in his eyes because Tommy ratted their plan out… if anything he seems relieved. He didn’t want this, (and everyone was sure of that) he just… didn’t know what else to do to appease the guilty voices yelling in his head.
It’s fairly easy — with everyone there pushing him to say what’s really bothering him — for Buck to come clean about how he feels about the wedding.
Maddie grabs his face, holding it between her hands so he has to look at her. “Buck, stop.” She says, and smiles, blinking back her own tears while swiping his away with her thumbs. “What happened at our wedding wasn’t your fault.”
“I was sick, Buck…” Chim added
“But I should have—”
“Stop…” Maddie repeats, softer this time. “We didn’t blame you then, so you have to stop blaming yourself now. Please. And besides, you can’t get married in a court house… not when you said yourself a beach on the east coast at sunset when the fireflies are out might just be the ideal dream wedding.”
Buck stares at her in shock; he remembers the wedding he saw while out surfing in Virginia Beach, he remembers writing about it to Maddie… he remembers calling it magical (which… it was) and he remembers regretting writing that as soon as he did it because it was way too cheesy for him to say, but he sent the postcard anyway. “I can’t believe you remember that.”
Maddie shrugs, “I read through them from time to time, that’s one of my favorites.”
Needless to say Buck and Tommy don’t get married that day. They return home and Buck goes to the closet where he had hid his clipboard once the guilt had started to get to much. He brings it to the living room and hands it to Maddie, who vows to help him plan the most amazing, beautiful, ✨magical✨wedding ever.
(Yeah this is still not even close to being done it just keeps getting away from me ✌🏼😀 sooo part 3.3 or 4 or whatever coming soon I guess!)

I think a lot about every time 911 shows us Eddie understanding a little more about Buck in real time...
(after cut because this got long but bare with me)
Like, the first season should be the most obvious, with the earthquake eps and the next one showing Eddie’s surprise/reaction to Buck’s immediate unconditional support when it comes to Christopher. You can literally see something click for him in Stuck, first when Buck clears Chris spending the day with them with Bobby, then when he introduces Carla to them.
But then you have new and interesting glimpses at moments when Eddie found another piece of Buck’s puzzle. In Kids Today, for example, we see that Eddie’s approach to Buck’s “sulking” is rather closed off, almost cold, and it’s one of the very first time we hear him mention his father’s toxic masculinity preachings... but when Hen points out that Buck doesn’t have much outside of work, you can literally SEE the second it clicks in for Eddie. Not that Buck doesn’t have anyone, but that he doesn’t know he does. That he doesn’t understand. Which is why he brings Christopher over. Not to teach a lesson, but to show him he’s wrong and he has people who love him regardless.
While the whole lawsuit arc was probably illuminating, for me the real highlight when it comes to Eddie understanding Buck a little bit better is in the famous kitchen scene. Before they get all flirty with the sexual tension... we see Buck ask if maybe Eddie is still angry at him, if maybe Eddie wanted to fight/hurt him, and while Eddie pokes fun of Buck making this about himself, I think it’s a very big moment when he realizes how deep the self-loathing runs, that Buck cannot just accept the fact that he was forgiven, that he still things that Eddie wanted to/would under any circumstances hurt him. So he makes a point to say “I wouldn’t do that”, matter of factly (even if he later has to sidestep it with a joke because this is pre-therapy Eddie after all).
Which of course later leads to The One That Got Away and Buck’s traumas shining through his relationship with Red and you can see how adamant Eddie is that no, Buck is not being left behind and no he isn’t losing the 118 family, and he’s annoyed when the others aren’t as quick to reassure him. But this is all part of Eddie-understanding-Buck-arc in s3 (remember the post-embolism thing i mentioned above). Which, of course, later becomes a punch in What’s Next? when Abby is back and Eddie sees real time one of the people who’ve filled Buck with abandonment and scars. Buck who, at this point, fyi, Eddie has already chosen as the person he trusts most to look after his son in case he dies.
Anyway, s4 is short but there’s treasures like What’s Your Grievance and Buck Begins, in which Eddie very clearly sees the roots of Buck’s pain and is already quick to validate his feelings and offer him a shoulder and space to vent. This Eddie is far more prepared than his counterpart at the beginning of s3 to see and understand Buck and offer his support openly. Which is what leads to the shooting and, more importantly, Buck once again acting like he’s expendable. And, because Eddie’s had this whole journey so far, he’s at a place where he can see better than the other characters that Buck doesn’t think himself invincible, he thinks himself disposable. But you can see the confusion in his face when Buck says it the first time, the moment —again— when he processes this new and painful information about his best friend. And he, once again, takes action with words of affirmation to show Buck that, again, he’s wrong.
Now, by s5 Buck and Eddie know each other pretty well so there’s fewer surprises on Eddie’s side (s5, after all, it’s Buck’s turn to go through the journey of truly seeing Eddie’s scars and pain and being there for him) but I think about Home And Away, and how Eddie needs to do a double-take after he jokes that Chimney will not forgive Buck. Because it’s a joke, it’s meant to be, but the hurt in Buck’s eyes is so clear —because, again, he thinks himself easily discarded as soon as he screws up once— that he looks genuinely shocked that he has to clarify the joke in the first place. S5 keeps telling us Eddie already sees Buck, in little things like recognizing how Buck wants to fix things and how he might struggle with lack of control when he can’t help.
Then s6 doubles down on the idea that Eddie already knows Buck so deeply, “it’s clearly bothering you”, knowing the happiness convention call was hard on him and teaming up with Chim to cheer Buck and Hen, picking up on his changes in habits and the fact that he might be hiding something, not joining the schedule to check on him after the lightning, being the one who offers the right space for Buck to open up... and then there’s the cemetery scene and there’s another DING moment when a new piece falls and Eddie realizes that Buck has changed, how could he not, and he’s now trying to catch up with whatever is wrong or new. And even then, he knows Buck enough to reassure him that he doesn’t need to pretend for anyone else’s sake.
Anyway, I don’t know where I’m going with this, except for the fact that I love the journey these two have gone through and how we’ve gotten to see on screen (rather than just assume or be told) the moments that have slowly morphed Eddie’s perception of Buck from the cocky kid from day 1 to the rather hurt and vulnerable and open hearted man he truly is.

Ok so— HEAR ME OUT FOR THIS ONE.
Whatever the heck happens to Chim, they end up needing support and it’s TOMMY that somehow saves him and gets him to their wedding (that probably likely ends up in the backyard next to the hot tub or something cause that’s just how Madney shenanigans work). Buck is so relieved and grateful and overcome with emotion that he kisses Tommy on the mouth! With his mouth! In front of everyone! PDA!
(Optional: + and that’s when Eddie is walloped by a crashing uh-oh wave of feelings realisation 😬)
okay i took your optional moment and added a twist I HOPE YOU LIKE IT DARLIN // send me a prompt here
Eddie feels sick - and it has nothing to do with the excessive alcohol he consumed the night before.
The helicopter starts to land in front of the house, their small group of friends and family grinning at the fact that Chim is waving at them from the window, looking just as worn and strung out as Buck and Eddie.
Buck.
Fucking Buck.
He's looking at Tommy land the helicopter with such awe in his eyes. When he lands it, everyone claps, which irritates him further for some reason even though he follows along with it. The helicopter powers down and Chimney jumps out, he and Maddie running into each other's arms. Tommy is smiling at them, this grand, open smile that makes Buck zero in on him.
Eddie watches Buck make way for him.
He jogs forward and Eddie watches as Buck grabs Tommy's face between his hands and pulls him in for a kiss - right there, in front of everyone.
Eddie can't even bother to look at who is shocked, who is surprised - he can't be bothered to see what Buck's parents do or say. He's just staring at them kiss, at Tommy wrapping his arms around Buck, at Buck kissing Tommy over and over again. They're smiling into the kiss, Buck's hand moving to the back of Tommy's head, fingers curling in the strands.
Eddie wants to throw up.
He looks away, he can't watch that - he's not homophobic, obviously, of course not. Hen is one of his closest friends. But...he can't watch Buck do that with someone. He can't.
You never had a problem when he was kissing girls.
But that was before...
"Eddie?" Maddie asks softly, as Chimney runs into the house to presumably wash up. Her hand is gentle as it grabs his shoulder. He meets her gaze - and she is looking so kindly at him that it makes him feel worse.
"Hey," he puts on a smile, but he can feel how fake it is. "Need anything? I can go help Chimney."
"No, it's okay." she squeezes his shoulder, looking over at her brother for a moment - their foreheads are together now, noses brushing, smiling and giggling. Eddie wants to punch a hole through a wall. Again. "It's okay, Eddie."
"What is?" he rips his eyes away from them, and focuses back on her.
She smiles knowingly at him. "Just because he's over there right now, it doesn't mean you won't get what you want, in the end."
Eddie's eyes widen. "Maddie...I..." but he has no good answer. No good answer to that, no good answer to the reason why he feels nauseous over the fact that Buck is kissing a man.
Maddie simply pats his cheek tenderly. "He's so easy to love." she whispers, before moving forward to kiss his cheek. This is a lot for him, too much, he and Maddie have never had a conversation this openly with one another about anything. "Just be patient." she whispers, before making her way into the house after her husband.
As Buck and Tommy part, they walk through the small crowd as everyone starts to make their way inside, Eddie simply standing there.
"Hey," Buck says as they walk up to him, hand in hand. "Ready to go inside?" he claps a hand on Eddie's shoulder.
Eddie looks at him, how beautiful he is. He doesn't even spare Tommy a glance.
"Of course," Eddie replies. "I'm just waiting for you, Buck."
Buck smiles brightly at him, and Eddie? Eddie will move mountains for that smile.
Eddie can be patient.

you know what everyone struggles with, in 5x04? the episode where after maddie leaves, and esp the scene where chimney meets up with buck (and ends up punching him...)
it's no one's fault, and also everyone's fault.
1. Maddie : maddie's incident with jee yun makes her believe that she's a bad mother, when in actual fact, she's done the absolute best she can, especially when she wasn't with Chimney.
Maddie leaving jee yun at the firehouse with only ravi there, was a bad move, she left her with someone who she doesn't know, looked like he doesn't have any experience with taking care of a baby, unloaded that responsibility on him. She left with everyone in the dark, especially chimney. She only told Buck, which was also unfair because now he's in an awkward position as maddie's brother and chimney's friend.
She left to get treated for her postpartum in the end, after trying to her own life in the ocean. She left out of suicidal thoughts. She made sure to come back, getting herself treated the best she could with help.
Chimney: Chimney unravels after maddie leaving. Being left with only a short video that has undertones of her voice sounding like even she doesn't believe herself, he struggles with work, the house and jee yun.
Chimney wasn't there. That's something he knows, too. He did it once in the beginning of the pregnancy, and what the audience doesn't notice is that he repeats it. It's not on purpose, of course. The blackout was troublesome, having him leave days on end, maddie and jee yun alone. He should've stayed with them, that's it. It went on for days, and the minute it went on longer, he could've pit in a request to leave, something most of us knows bobby would've approved. But that didn't happen. This isn't really a fault, more of something he could've done. Which is probably what he overthinks and ends up lashing out on buck for. He punches buck and lashes out on him for being in the dark about maddie, even though Buck could've told him, which he eventually does only because Chimney figured out Buck already had known. He shouldn't have punched buck full stop. The relationship between them got strained from there even though Chimney has done something similar to buck as well in the past. But I'm not going into that.
Chimney's words when he was talking was right though, maddie is scared and alone, only because she's being led on by her own fear, which knows because she's opened up to Chimney about it, not buck (which chimney doesn't realise) coming to my next point.
Buck: Buck keeps a huge secret for maddie from Chimney because she asked him to. Possibility on him negating the entire thing the entire time, maddie is telling him this is high. My own prediction is that he was unable to do that also because he was on shift. Chances are that maddie told him on the phone, due to the long shift.
Buck should've told Chimney immediately. I mean, he does, because even he can't take it seeing his friend like this. But he does, and that'sonly because again Chimney figures it out, so he'll leave maddie alone, which isn't right. Buck's response to Maddie leaving as we all know is, she'll come back. Whether he's blinded by the relationship that's been set from how they grew up together or from wishful thinking is an unrelated story for later.
Buck does his best to help Chimney later by telling him where he thinks she is, from her phone call, where she asks him why he told Chimney. His own talk with Eddie helps him in realising that his sister isn't just his sister. She is someone with other faces and has flaws.
Maddie left in her own breakdown after her catalyst freak accident with Jee Yun but went to get treated for her and Chimney. Chimney punched Buck, but his own words after that say how scared he was his partner is out there alone, when she needs someone more than ever. Buck should've never kept this secret from Chimney, but he ended up doing that from his past experience with Maddie.
When i say no one's at fault and everyone's at fault, i mean, i can blame everyone, but i can't one person individually cause it's a ripple effect of faults from here and there. If i played the blame, I'll never get to the bottom of it and fail to see and support the characters' decision to do what's best for them.
Maddie Buckley, Howard Han, Evan Buckley, they could never make me hate you.
