Polish farmers block rail links with Ukraine
On 18 February, Polish farmers completely blocked the movement of trucks in both directions at the international checkpoint Dorohusk-Jahodyn and disrupted railway communication with Ukraine, Ukrainian media reported.
Since 9:00 Kyiv time, Polish farmers have been completely blocking the movement of lorries in both directions at the Dorohusk-Jahodyn international checkpoint. The farmers are holding a large-scale protest on the access roads to the village of Dorohusk.
Despite the protesters’ promises to let perishable, dangerous or humanitarian goods through, not a single heavy vehicle has crossed the border since then. The State Customs Service of Ukraine noted that shuttle buses passed through normally without queues.
As of 16 February, Polish farmers blocked six checkpoints on the border with Ukraine.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Europe could starve! Farmers are protesting all across Europe!! Thousands of tractors have blocked all roads outside Paris, while similar protests are taking place in several European countries such as Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as Spain, Portugal and Romania, as well as Hungary. Tractors and hay were used to block roads, vegetables were thrown, and manure was thrown on public buildings. One farmer and his daughter were killed. Two protesters threw soup on the Louvre's Mona Lisa! But why? Because the farming system in Europe is not working. Farmers were already struggling but the latest EU laws have angered the farmers: - - A free-trade deal that could flood European markets with cheap meat and produce. - A push by the government to bring down food inflation. - A plan to phase out tax breaks on farming fuel! - A mandate to leave 4% of farmland fallow!! European farmers, who were already under severe financial strain, could not bear it so they began protesting against these EU laws. France has vowed to support these farmers as the EU has conceded and delayed the fallow requirement. However, farmers claim it is not enough. What awaits EU’s farms?? Farmers' Protests in Europe: Facts and Figures
What started as silent discontent over the EU's stringent agricultural policies has now swept across the entire Europe and has become a serious domestic matter, threatening a deeper fracture between governments and their voters.
— Sputnik International | Monday February 12, 2024
Tumblr media
In recent months, farmers across European nations have been protesting unwise short-sighted policies pursued by bloc officials that harm local agriculture workers. To express their outrage, protesters are blocking highways and dumping waste in front of government buildings to draw attention to their woes.
Farmers are protesting rising financial burdens, poorly regulated agricultural imports, growing fuel prices, and other adverse EU measures in the sector. The demonstrations question the consistency of EU agricultural policy as it stands today, especially amid growing military spending and billion of euros being thrown at foreign objectives.

Paid pro russian farmers forgot, when Poland went into EU they became main competitors for Germany and France. Pour out Ukrainian grain that was heading to Germany, pouring out grain that was planted, grown and harvested under fire and bombing is an act of scoundrels and assholes. Weapons can’t be arrived in proper time, we are dying because of you. We cover you from horror. We die for you too. Because if we are captured by russia, you will be next. russians directly state this. You are cowards. And I say this to the Poland farmers who have bloody money in their hands. It’s not pro Poland protests. It’s anti Ukrainian protests.

Spanish, French farmers block border to “put pressure” on EU elections
French and Spanish farmers again blocked two major border crossings in the Pyrenees on Monday evening to “influence” next Sunday’s European elections and demand, among other things, cheaper energy, Le Monde reports.
According to Luis Francisco del Acqua, a cereal producer from the Valladolid region of northern Spain who was present at the Biriatu (Pyrenees-Atlantics) toll road, the protest of farmers and cattle breeders, which began on Monday morning, will continue “all night, until tomorrow” on Tuesday. Eloi Huguet, a goat farmer in the Girona region (northeastern Spain) who took part in blocking the A9 Montpellier-Barcelona motorway at Le Pertuis, on the French-Spanish border, told Agence France-Presse on Monday evening:
“We will stay until 10 a.m. tomorrow [Tuesday].”
For its part, Vinci Autoroutes confirmed that the A9 remained blocked on Monday evening, adding that in Biriatu a “filter” allows some light vehicles to pass on the A63.
By 10 a.m. on Monday morning, a long queue of dozens of Spanish tractors had joined the few French farmers standing at the A9’s junction with the border in the Pyrenees-Orientales.
As with the blockade of the A9 motorway, protesters blocked seven other border crossings between Spain and France along the Pyrenees, from Catalonia to the Basque Country on Monday.
This protest in support of cheaper energy and compliance with mirror regulations (which would impose the same environmental standards on third-country farmers as in Europe) was unique in that it was not organised by traditional farmers’ unions. Xabi Dallemane, one of the organisers of the “no label” action in the Basque Country, explains:
“It’s not normal to have standards imposed on us that are not respected for the products we import.”
For this cattle and duck farmer in Bidach, the action is “peaceful” and aims to “put pressure on our future MEPs.”

Romanian farmers block border crossing with Ukraine, Kyiv says - Reuters
Farmers and hauliers have been blocking highways and slowing traffic with convoys of tractors and trucks in protest against the high cost of diesel, insurance rates, European Union measures to protect the environment and pressures on the domestic market from imported Ukrainian agricultural goods.
The protesters want a moratorium on loan repayments, faster subsidy payments and separate lines at border crossings and the Black Sea port of Constanta for EU lorries and trucks from outside the bloc, including Ukraine.[...]
Until a deal was reached this week, Polish hauliers had also been blockading some Ukrainian border crossings in protest at what they said was unfair competition from their Ukrainian counterparts. The protests pressed demands that the EU reinstate a system in which Ukrainian companies need permits to operate in the bloc and the same for European truckers entering Ukraine.
