(Tobias Carrick x F!MC) in a Choices Open Heart drabble for Day 5 for Tobias Carrick Appreciation Week
A/N I've written and deleted so many different scenarios for this day's prompt 🤦🏻‍♀️ Here's my latest so I can finally get some sleep 😂 For reference purposes, in this short drabble Tobias and Chris have been dating for about four or five months at this point.

At a bar near Mass Kenmore...
"What reason did you give your roommates for going out tonight?" Tobias asked.
"I told them I needed to remember why I chose Boston and to think about whether or not I want to remain here after exams." Chris explained.
"Sienna offered to come along, but I told her I needed some alone time tonight. It didn't take much effort to convince her once she heard Ethan barking orders at me to go check on some MRI results while Zaid was yelling at me to do something with my intern."
She nodded her thanks to the bartender and took a long sip of the whiskey sour he set before her.
Tobias draped his arm along the back of her stool, scooting closer to her.
"Would you like to work in some city other than Boston?"
Chris set her drink down. She placed her hand on his thigh and leaned towards him.
"I have a few reasons for wanting to stay here."
Tobias's lips curved as he moved even closer. "Care to elaborate?"
"Well," she licked her lips, "I really really love," her eyes met his, "The Patriots."
He groaned on a laugh as she kissed him.
"You're a cruel woman, Chris Valentine." He muttered against her lips.
"I'll make it up to you." She wrapped her arms around his neck.
"You'll have a lot to make up for." He placed his hand over his heart. "That one cut to the quick, especially since I've planned some romantic moments for us this evening."
"You did?" She placed a lingering kiss against his neck. "That's why you're one of my main reasons for staying here in Boston."
"I better be." He teased, capturing her lips in a deep kiss.
"Can't you two take that somewhere else?"
Tobias broke away to glare over his shoulder.
"Some of us are trying to drown our current sorrows of loneliness." His fellow doctor and friend, Will Kent, teased as he sat down on Tobias's other side. "Not have any more reasons to be depressed."
"Sorry Will." Chris said with a giggle.
"I don't blame you, Chris." Will leaned over to wink at her. "Some men simply have no self-control around beautiful women."
"If we're bothering you," Tobias told him, "there are other places to sit." His smile grew flirty towards Chris. "With how I'm feeling, you might need to go to a bar across town."
"Good god man." Their other friend, Dean Kaminski said, settling down beside Chris. "Keep it in your pants until you get home."
Chris snorted in her laughter as the three bantered back and forth.
"When do you two leave for your date?" Will asked.
"We should probably leave in an hour." Chris replied.
"Where are you going?" Dean prodded. "Tobias won't give us any details."
"You won't?" She turned back towards him.
"Hell no." Tobias explained. "And take the chance on them following us?" He playfully shivered. "That's one way to kill the--"
"Romance." Dean and Will finished for him.
"I don't know what you did to our boy, Chris." Will shook his head in mock pity.
"But all he does now is look for ways to express, I can't believe I'm saying this, his feelings." Dean made a gagging sound.
"Another round!" Will demanded of the bartender. "We're in mourning."
"Oh, for the love of all that is holy." Tobias grumbled, rolling his eyes.
"We gather here to remember the man, the myth, the legend." Will began his eulogy.
"Laying it on a little thick." Dean told him.
"Right. Sorry." Will dabbed at the nonexistent tears in his eyes with a cocktail napkin. "I'm too overcome with grief."
"I got this." Dean cleared his throat. "We gather here to drink one last time to our friend, Tobias. A carefree lady's man brought down in his prime by a--"
"Careful." Chris warned with a twinkle in her eye.
Dean winked at her. "Brought down in his prime by a woman who really should have ended up with either Will or me."
"We are the better looking ones." Will pointed out to her.
"And much more charming and appreciative of Chris's assets." Dean continued.
"They mean your ass." Tobias whispered to her.
Chris shook with her building laughter.
"We shall miss the man who once beat us to the tennis courts every Friday morning." Dean lifted his glass. "Now he's late because of a certain someone, though she has become an excellent doubles partner."
"To the man who was always ready to spend Sundays out on the bay fishing." Will added. "Now he plans brunches of all ungodly things for a certain gorgeous doctor before joining us for a few hours. Then the poor man hurries home to make dinner for that same someone when she finishes her shift."
"To the man who once used us as his wingmen to pick up anything that walked by." Dean said in a mournful tone.
"Hey!" Tobias shook his head. "I did not pick up anything that walked by."
"He's right, you know." Will said over to Dean.
"Allow me to clarify. I meant to say that he picked up anything that walked, ran, sat down, fell asleep--"
"We get the gist." Chris said, settling back in Tobias's arms, thoroughly enjoying their performance.
"Ahem. Now where was I?" Dean smiled at them. "To Tobias!"
Chris and Will raised their drinks with Dean then knocked them back.
"Funny." Tobias drily remarked. "On that note, it's time I departed this den of iniquity." He tugged Chris with him. "And leave you to your sorrow."
"Can the dead man really take our only female companion with him?" Will teased.
"He can." Chris patted his shoulder. "Which gives you a chance to hit on the brunette who's been looking over here ever since you sat down."
"Really?" Will found who she was talking about. "And look at that? She's got a friend." He wrapped an arm around Dean's shoulders. "Mourning will have to wait. We have a target acquired."
Tobias took advantage of their distraction to slip out of the bar. He tugged Chris over to a darkened corner and pressed her up against the wall.
"Are you mourning your sad fate too?" Chris asked, her breath hitched as his hand moved up her body.
"Do I look like a man who's sad?" His lips drifted along the sensitive spots of her neck, pausing to suck right where her pulse leaped to his touch.
"You certainly don't feel sad." Chris gasped as he pressed his body flush to hers.
His lips curved as he teased her lips. "How do I feel?"
"You feel like a man who's going to make me scream his name." She whispered.
Tobias slammed his mouth against hers, cradling her head to keep from hitting the rough brick wall.
She lifted her legs, linking them around his hips.
Tobias slowly ended the kiss, smiling at her befuddled expression.
"It's moments like this why I'm glad the old me is dead."
Chris slowly smiled, pulling him back down for a soft, tender kiss.
"Me too." A heartfelt sigh slipped out. "I've never been happier at a wake."

Tom Hanks in Bridge of Spies (Steven Spielberg, 2015)
Cast: Tom Hanks, Mark Rylance, Alan Alda, Amy Ryan, Dominick Lombardozzi, Victor Verhaege, Scott Shepherd, Sebastian Koch, Austin Stowell, Will Rogers, Mark Fichera, Brian Hutchison, Joshua Harto, Henny Russell, Rebekah Brockman. Screenplay: Matt Charman, Ethan Coen, Joel Coen. Cinematography: Janusz Kaminski. Production design: Adam Stockhausen. Film editing: Michael Kahn. Music: Thomas Newman.
Steven Spielberg is unquestionably a great director, with a seldom-equaled skill at visual storytelling and at building tension and suspense. But he tries too hard to make a statement in Bridge of Spies -- something about defending the Constitution -- when it could have been simply an engaging film about Cold War tensions. It also suffers from the wrong kind of star power: Tom Hanks has devolved from a terrific actor, skilled at both comedy and drama, into the movies' iconic Good Guy. Casting him as the lawyer James Donovan, forced to defend a Soviet spy, deprives the film of any ambiguity about Donovan's defense of Rudolf Abel (Mark Rylance). Hanks's Donovan can simply wrap himself in the Constitution and we're with him all the way, even as public opinion of the time turns against him. As a film actor Hanks has lost his dark side, so we know that whoever he plays will triumph. Imagine Bridge of Spies with Donovan played by George Clooney or Bradley Cooper, stars with just a touch of shadow in their personae, and you can see what I mean. Fortunately, the film is otherwise well-cast, including Rylance's Oscar-winning turn as Abel, as well as Scott Shepherd's impatient CIA man and Sebastian Koch's duplicitous East German lawyer, and the screenplay by Matt Charman and Joel and Ethan Coen manages a good deal of suspense. (Sometimes at the expense of historical accuracy: Donovan was never shot at in his home, as the film has it.) The Coen brothers were brought in to work on the first draft of Charman's screenplay, specifically on the section in which Donovan finds himself negotiating separately with the Soviets and the East Germans to engineer an exchange of Abel for imprisoned U2 pilot Francis Gary Powers (Austin Stowell) and an American student, Frederic Pryor (Will Rogers), who has been accidentally arrested in East Berlin. It's the best part of the movie, as Donovan wrangles not only with the conflicting egos and bureaucracies of the Soviet and East German officials but also with the CIA's insistence that only Powers need be included in the deal. Unfortunately, Spielberg doesn't know when his movie is over. Bridge of Spies should end with the exchange of spies at the bridge, but Spielberg keeps it running as Donovan boards the plane for home, returns to the arms of his family just as the news of his successful negotiation is breaking, gives his wife (Amy Ryan) the jar of marmalade he promised to bring her from London, witnesses her realization that he wasn't in London after all, and soon afterward rides to work on the bus where a woman who had previously frowned at him as a traitor now smiles at him as a hero after seeing his picture in the newspaper. All the while, Thomas Newman's score is telling us what we're supposed to feel. It's  sentimental anticlimax, of the sort that many critics decry in what are usually regarded as among Spielberg's greatest films, Saving Private Ryan (1998) and Schindler's List (1993). Bridge of Spies would have been a lot better if Spielberg hadn't given in to his instinct for overemphasis.

January 9th, 1982 (37) Gender / pronouns: Male & He/Him Hometown: Fresno, CA Occupation: ER Doctor Face-claim: Jake Gyllenhaal
biography.
tw: illness, sudden death
Church, school, and family — that had been his father’s mantra for as long as Ethan Kaminski could remember. It bellowed throughout the halls of the household as him and his younger brother woke up in the morning all the way up until they were tucked into bed at night. Life had started out relatively normal for the young man, born to parents who seemingly wanting nothing more than to one day raise a beautiful family. His father, Jack, had opened up Kaminski’s Deli in his hometown of Fresno, California after graduating college when he met Anita. Anitahad immigrated from Poland with her parents in the late 1970s and was about to finish her last year in vocational school when she happened to walk into the small business with a couple of friends. It was true love at first sight, and about three years later the two were married and had their first child: Ethan.
Life was nice for the little family. Jack’s small business was booming which allowed him to take on more staff members and move to bigger locations so, needless to say, finances were never really a problem. They were very religious and went to church every single week regardless of location or circumstance, the male having been enrolled in Sunday school since he was old enough to walk. Only a few short years later, Anita became pregnant with another boy whom they named James. It was bliss in the Kaminski household and it stayed that way for a very long time.
Until Jack died of a heart attack, leaving behind his family and the business that he’d worked so hard to build. It was a crushing loss for the community and for the Kaminski’s themselves, but with Anita leading the way she did her best to put the boys on the straight and narrow path. Ethan can’t even recall the number of times his mother would slap him square in the face for making a snide remark or talking back, his snarky attitude always one to get him in trouble. This especially got worse after the patriarch’s death, but all in all, Ethan loved and respected Anita for the strong, iron-clad woman that she was and did his best to abide by her rules, however difficult that could be.
As the eldest brother, Ethan was expected to take over the deli upon graduating college. The plan was simple: he’d go to university, get a degree in business, then move back to Fresno as the sole owner. However, as the male grew older he soon came to realize that he could have a chance at life outside of his hometown, outside of his family’s expectations. Going into medicine hadn’t even been on Ethan’s radar until his first year at UCLA when he befriended a couple of students in the field. Science and logic had always made sense to him, and the thought of helping people in the way his father had so desperately needed was far too appealing to ignore. So, before that year was up, he switched his major to biology, deciding he wanted to become a doctor. He knew his mother would disapprove, hence why he waited until his second semester was over before telling her, but despite her initial anger Anita ultimately accepted his decision (though not without some incessant guilt-tripping) and Ethan continued med school, with the deli now going to his younger brother.
It was at the beginning of his last year of undergrad that he met Rosalie, a physics major, at one of the football games. The two sat beside one another, conversing the entire time without any regard to the game itself – to this day, Ethan can’t recall which team won – and became an item quickly after. A year later they were married with him starting med school and her starting grad school. Bills became far too difficult to pay, so the young couple moved in with his family until they could get on their feet and worked at the deli all the while, As stressful as it could be at times, and as many days they’d go without seeing each other or spending time together, they made it work.
And then Rosalie fell pregnant, putting a wrench in their plans. Though it was a pleasant surprise, the timing wasn’t exactly ideal. How were they both going to work at their degrees and raise a kid at the same time? After much deliberation, Rosalie decided to drop out of grad school to be with the child, a sacrifice that seemed like a grand idea at the time – and it was, for a while. Med school kept Ethan busy, but he still had time to make for his wife and child. When their son, Matthew, was born, it felt like life couldn’t get any better. Stressful, perhaps, but all in all, it was bliss.
Good things don’t always last. Matti was almost four years old when Ethan started his residency, which meant that his days and nights were spent at the hospital. This caused an incredible amount of tension in their marriage, despite how much Rosalie did support him and his efforts to become a doctor. Not only that, the woman felt incredibly unfulfilled. She loved her husband and her son dearly, but life as she knew it did not come out as planned. Things began to look up after a couple of years when Ethan finally started his own practice in Los Angeles; they were able to buy a nice house in the new city, send Matti to a great school where he could excel, but Rosalie still wasn’t satisfied. The male was still working long hours, putting his work before his family life, and even he became frustrated that he nothing he seemed to do was enough for them. Their unhappy marriage continued, with Ethan sleeping in the guest rooms most nights, until finally he had enough. However, instead of ending things completely, he did the next best (or, worst) thing: he cheated.
He craved intimacy, but he didn’t have the heart to ask for a divorce. He still loved Rosalie, and he didn’t want to put his son through that much pain. It was immature and, hell, it was downright unacceptable, but he felt trapped between a rock and a hard place. Nights out of the house became more frequent, and Ethan found himself spending more and more time away from his family. It wasn’t until Rosalie found out about his affairs that everything came crashing down – or so he thought.
She was upset, understandably, but there was still a great amount of love between them. After talking it out for days and weeks, they decided to start couples counseling, and Rosalie made the decision to go back to grad school to jump start her career once more. With Matti in middle school and Ethan making more than enough to cover expenses, it seemed like the right decision. There was still a lot of things that they needed to move past, and Ethan had more than enough he needed to make up for, but for the first time in almost a decade it felt like their relationship was finally back on track.
Until it wasn’t. Ethan was in the middle of a shift when one of his nurses suddenly pulled him aside, telling him that they’d just received a call from the hospital. Apparently, Rosalie was home, making breakfast for Matti, when she suddenly got a pounding headache. Not wanting to alert their young son and make him believe anything was wrong, she decided to just take a nap and sleep it off. Later, when Matti went to wake her up, he found her completely unresponsive. Ethan’s phone was off, so Matti was unable to get a hold of him and dialed 911 instead. The doctors said it was a brain aneurysm, quick and unexpected, but even now Ethan can’t help but believe he could have done something.
It’s been two years since that day, and a lot has happened in the meantime. Ethan moved him and Matti to Seattle for a fresh start, now working as an ER doctor at the local hospital. He prefers the quick-paced environment that the emergency room provides, not allowing him time to sit with his thoughts for long before a patient comes through, which is ultimately what he prefers. A workaholic through and through, he cares deeply about his son and always puts him first, but his career is so demanding that at times, it’s nearly impossible. Otherwise, when he’s not at home, work, or fucking around with whoever has a pulse, he’s at church. Confession is the only way he’s been able to keep his head on straight, his dedication to God being what keeps him from completely tearing at the seams even though he constantly questions why He felt the need to take Rosalie away from her. Though his faith has been shaken, he simply doesn’t know where else to turn to.

Ending up in bed with the Father of the young boy she was taking care of certainly hadn’t been apart of the plan. She’d just been trying to do a good thing, helping out with a widowed family who were clearly struggling and honestly, she had felt bad for them. Ethan had looked stressed and frazzled the first time they’d met, Matti hadn’t looked much better and as soon as she’d heard that he wasn’t sure who was going to take care of the boy while he was on his long shifts at the ER, she had seen an opportunity to help. It was one her Dad had more than approved of, praising her for doing a good deed and potentially getting them some more voters but there had been no politics involved for her. Just genuine kindness and compassion towards the two men, and that was still the case, even if the relationship between her and Ethan had shifted over the past several months.
It felt like forever since they’d shared their first kiss, the sexual tension between them exploding in a passionate and illicit affair. She blushed whenever she thought about it, feeling a mixture of guilt and excitement each and every time. Whenever Matti went to bed, he thought that she was heading home for the night but she usually remained at the house for a few hours longer, pressed against a horizontal surface and struggling to keep quiet. The forbidden nature of it all made things even more exhilarating and Ethan often felt like a drug; utterly bad for her and yet something she wasn’t able to give up. She knew she should have done, Lottie knew she should have walked away from the situation before her heart had gotten involved, because it wasn’t like a widowed Father who was 11 years her senior would want any serious future with her, but actually giving up the adrenaline rush of being with him was something else entirely.
So far, Lottie tended to go home after their escapades, even if it was in the early hours of the morning with thoroughly wrecked hair and bruised lips from their passion. That night, however, they had ended up in Ethan’s bed, and as the sun rose outside of the curtains and Lottie slept peacefully, it became clear that she had never left the bed. A soft breath left her as she rolled over, coming up against a solid chest. Instinctively, her arm curled around him, leaning against his arm, not quite awake yet. ‘’Mm...’’

CLOSED STARTER FOR @ethankams
“Here,” River said, presenting a clean napkin to Ethan, holding it in his hands, like he were offering excalibur to King Arthur, his head bowed slightly. He’d just come from the bathroom and had every intention to head back to his and Ethan’s table when a girl had chatted him up near the hand dryers and, one thing led to another, then she was jotting down her number on a piece of napkin. Which he now was passing to his friend. “I don’t want it,” he added, urging Ethan to take it, thinking that he might have better use for the female’s company than him.

Overnight shifts were far from his favorite to work. Ethan Kaminski may have been a night owl, may have reveled in the adrenaline-fueled career choice he’d made for himself after leaving his private practice, but that didn’t mean being awake and alert from dusk until dawn was something he desired. It was currently seven in the morning; his sister-in-law had already sent Matti off to school, so there wasn’t much of a rush to get home. He thought about making himself a pot of coffee upon entering his house, but at the last minute decided to treat himself to breakfast at Pop’s. Based on the way his week had been going, between getting decked in the face by Chris and his son picking fights with him left and right, a little bit of TLC was desperately needed.
“‘Scuse me, can I get some coffee over here?” he asked the nearest waitress, a flash of blonde hair that had her back to him of whom he’d hardly cast a glance to. He had some patient files splayed out in front of him that he was in the process of going over, which was taking far too much of his attention considering how exhausted he was.

Wisconsin upsets No. 6 Purdue on “Frank Kaminsky Night”
Tumblr media
Boilermakers have now lost three straight after falling 57-53 on the road to the Badgers
The Wisconsin Badgers needed a little magic to have a shot at upsetting No. 6 Purdue on Thursday night, and they got it in the form of former big man Frank Kaminsky. Wisconsin honored #44 at halftime, retiring Frank the Tank’s jersey in a ceremony.

— FOX College Hoops (@CBBonFOX) February 16, 2018
The two teams were knotted at 21 at the half before Wisconsin outlasted Purdue down the stretch, converting free throws to seal the game. Midway through the second half, Purdue looked to be taking control after a 10-0 run gave them a 39-32 lead. The Wisconsin Men’s Basketball official Twitter account was all in on Frank Kaminsky Night, using pictures of him to accompany each game update. They got creative after that Boilermaker run:

— Wisconsin Basketball (@BadgerMBB) February 16, 2018
Wisconsin chipped away at the Boilermakers, eventually tying the game at 43 on a Khalil Iverson Dunk with 5:01 to play. They took the lead 41 seconds later on two Brad Davison free throws, and the Badgers never looked back. Ethan Happ led the way for the Badgers with 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Davison chipped in 16 points in an effective 4-for-9 performance from the field.
Wisconsin has struggled over the course of the season with a 12-16 overall record and a 5-10 Big Ten record. After the win, the Badger fans rushed the court, including a fringe appearance from Frank the Tank himself (in a slick red jacket).
Tumblr media
Purdue came into the matchup with the Badgers having lost back-to-back games to Ohio State and Michigan State, dropping them from No. 3 to No. 6. The Boilermakers finished with 13 turnovers in the game, and the trio of Carsen Edwards (22 points), Isaac Haas (12 points), and Vince Edwards (10 points) combined for 44 of Purdue’s 53 points. Purdue dropped to 23-5 (12-3 Big Ten) with the loss.

//claps// the human characters of the ss!! well. some of them. mostly the originals.
marcus kempton / matt rose / creator
the ‘creator’ (heh) of the ss and main villain, as well as the former head of upd. they have to change their name and appearance quite often to avoid the upd (universal protection agency) or getting found out. has a very stereotypical evil lair filled with screens so they can watch on the characters and drink cola all day.
they don’t like talking about their family life and they’re very unstable, wishing they could go back to the days where they were with their friends.
jon goldie
jon goldie is the fusion of two former members of the upd (ethan kaminski and nicolas eaves). while fused, he was killed by creator, leaving his ghost in the fused state permanently. although after his death he does have a grudge against creator, he doesn’t have any desire to kill them.
marissa ridgewell
the current head of upd and one of creator’s old friends. because of creator attacking her, her right eye and neck had to be modified. she was always the serious-silent type, although she does have moments of humor when around friends. spends a lot of time in her office keeping track of what creator is doing.

co-head of upd and former best friend of creator, vail quinn isn’t having the best time. barely getting any sleep, they do field work for the upd and when they’re not working, they’re drawing and living off coffee.
faith oshima
like ridgewell, creator has managed to mess up her appearance as well. due to a chemical outburst before creator’s turn to evil, she has a third arm. usually goofs off on job, or reads stuff on the internet. pretty handy with a gun, though.
