continued from here. @unwrittenxrp
Clarice listened to his story, intent and uninterrupting. She couldn’t sense any lies, though Ethan was probably too tired to do so anyways. She hummed at the mention of the bar, a place she had frequented more than once. If Ethan’s friend was who she thought it was, then Clarice knew his words to be true. She smiled. “I don’t mind the company, it can get so lonely here, being the only special person as you so delicately put it.’’ She breathed. “I’m going to fix you a place to sleep, there’s no way I’m letting you out in this blizzard again.’’

AEW official Kin No Doubles card
1. Daddy match (reprisal): sequel to the who's your daddy match, but its daddy ass v daddy magic. Loser has to temporarily go by real name. Magic gets increasingly agitated bc the Acclaimed are doing good ringside support while Angelo is busy looking at a photo of Ruby and sighing in a lovesick manner.
2. Someone has to change: Ruby soho vs red velvet reprisal, loser needs to change their name to a different color. Angelo interrupts this match as well, and then Magic has to come drag him backstage. You can faintly hear the sound of yelling backstage for the rest of the match, despite the noise of the crowd.
3. Who's House (please we need to know for tax purposes): Swerve vs Malakai. Nana and Julia are ringside. No consequences but there's a b plot where Nana keeps trying to teach Julia the dance and she keeps mirroring it on instinct and then getting annoyed
4. Adaaaaam: adam copeland v adam cole v adam page, whoever eats the pin is kidnapped by roddy.
5. Nicknapped: Bucks + pending? vs Patriarchy, but the teams have swapped Nicks. The match ends w the nicks pinning each other. Luchasaurus and whoever the third member of the bucks team is both leave partway thru and it takes Matt and Christian a full 10 minutes to notice bc they're so focused on the Nick fight going on.
6. Close enough: both hangman and christian already had matches, so they make Brian Cage and Ethan Page fight instead. Loser has to deal with their last name twin's stable drama for the next month. Brian Cage crumbles under the expectations of fatherhood.
8. Max²: MJF challenged Caster but hes still injured so the backstage plot of the week is MJF trying to lure Caster onstage so that they can do the fight but every time they run into each other Caster's doing something increasingly stupid. In the final 5 minutes of the show it seems like theyre going to come out but then the lights cut out and the devil appears onscreen.
7. Going to the Tonys: Toni makes Tony Kahn and Tony Schiavone wrestle her because she was annoyed at being left out of the storyline even tho she has two name doubles. She is moments away from seriously injuring someone when RJ and Renee appear and placate her with a plastic replica Tony trophy thats been modified to say "#1 Toni"
9. Kill your double: Kris Statlander kills Chris Jericho in real life
#wrestling#im sure theres other jokes but this started as a Make the Adams Fight situation and then started getting complicated#aew

CHARLES IVES: AMERICA, IMPROVISATION, AND PLACE
I had shared the link to this panel on 21 June when the YouTube algorithm called it to my attention. I watched the first ten minutes then to hear both Phil Lesh and Bill Frisell discuss how they came to know Ives and, from that, knew I would want to see/hear the whole thing as Ethan Iverson was also on the panel. I had road time on Wednesday, so I listened to it.
Lesh’s and Iverson’s voices were distinctive enough that I could identify them. Iverson was very active, recommending sound clips, including of a Frisell piece, and asking about the Grateful Dead’s two drummers whereas Lesh was enthusiastic about all the clips but not as active as the others. A discussion of Stagger Lee versions from Mississippi John Hurt to the Dead homed in on the folk process but also the distinctively American character which was broadly conceived of as Ivesian.
Iverson was particularly interested in the polyrhythms and how much more directly and easily Ives in contrast to Copeland and Gershwin (having called Rhapsody in Blue the “worst masterpiece”), incorporated African American, jazz, blues, ragtime influences. The use of quotes/teases and counterposed ensembles (Lesh said the four live Grateful Deads on top of one another on Anthem of the Sun though was him chasing European modernism) was both familiar and now attributable to Ives.
Certainly his iconoclasm and dedication to his craft is something he shares with other musical heroes. So I need to get to know him much better.
Additional impetus for that effort is that, as part of establishing his Americana roots, is how place mattered to him. Ives gave his compositions titles like Concord Sonata, Three Places in New England, New England Holidays, and Central Park in the Dark. The panel embraced his uniquely American vision of which place was an important component. They also mentioned Duke Ellington’s several evocations of Harlem.
As I think about place as I often do, I will bring that to my listening.

Captain Robert "Bobby" Nash - 7x8
Unpopular opinion: Bobby's 7x8 storyline should have been included in season 6!
IMO, Bobby's 7x8 storyline should have been done in season 6 instead of that mess they did with Wendell. Until 6x9 aired, NO ONE had ever heard of Wendell. He was made up and to prove it, in season 1, Bobby used to talk to his priest for counseling but the audience never saw or heard of Wendell until he just showed up and was supposed to have a long-lasting friendship with all of the Grant-Nash family. May even knew who he was but the audience didn't. It appears he was created out of thin air and used as a connection device for Buck's death in 6x10.
In 7x8 the audience finally got to see snippets from Bobby's past including his childhood but the issue for me was Bobby mentioned he was from a legacy of firefighters in season 5 but REMINDER, Bobby hadn't had a storyline all his own since season 2. Every storyline he had after 2x16 "Bobby Begins Again" involved his wife Athena (rightfully so), Michael, Buck, his stepchildren May and Harry and the 118. Even his 4x13 and 4x14 storylines were about the issues in his marriage with Athena before he got shot by Ethan Copeland. In season 5 he saved May in the dispatch fire in 5x16 and he punched Jonah in 5x17 but that was AFTER Jonah adult napped Hen and Chimney.
My point is Bobby's storyline would have gone over a lot better if it had been included in season 6 and IMO, it would have been a better narrative point to connect with Buck's 6x10 storyline. Bobby's biological father died while Bobby was at home with him and he idolized his dad because in his eyes, his dad couldn't do any wrong. The details included in 6x11 for Buck would have been more impactful and emotional if they had been related to Bobby's past relationship with his own father instead of the show trying to redeem the Buckley parents without giving them a proper redemption arc.
No one knew anything about Bobby's past childhood until 7x8 and that's ridiculous especially since Bobby spent years without a storyline all his own.
Also, Malcolm-Jamal Warner is an A-LIST actor but he's only going to be in three episodes. But they keep bringing these non-acting people back who scare the audience with their joker-like smile because they don't know how to deliver a line from a script (EG).

• Still not over the fact that the shooter had the same name as Buck's therapist but no one saying anything about it afterwards or there not being a connection there though, like why didn't they use a different name instead huh? What was the reason for that? 🤔 If they were related I'd lose it though.
