Cause I get petty af. Man(by man.. There was also one day she and I were talking to someone about their weekend plans. He said he was going to a bar where a local band was playing. I go, oh cool, what band? And both of them laugh at me??? Like at the question?? The fact I like music?? He said it was a cover band of late 90s/early 2000s music, my jam. The shit I know a lot about. He goes, I don’t remember their name, but they play there once a month, and they do that Stacy’s mom song. Ok cool, in my head I know it’s fountains of Wayne, album either came out in 2004 or 2006, I think it was actually 2003, idk but I’m not looking it up rn. I knew it was close. She laughs and says that’s probably before my time. I should’ve said something, I swear.

it’s annoying to me as a Fanfic Elder that y’all don’t understand how consent works in regards to reading fanfic

last night I saw a fic that had EIGHT of my favorite tags included and a great summary BUT it also contained a tag for a topic that bothers me. I weighed the pros/cons and decided NOT to read the fic because the ONE tag I disliked was something that could trigger a panic attack if the scene went into any sort of detail - it wasn’t worth risking the eight good tags.

from the first moment I noticed the fic to the moment I decided not to read it, the entire experience was MY RESPONSIBILITY. the author tagged the fic correctly, I knew what my limits were, and I respected them.

if you find a fic with tags you don’t like, JUST DON’T READ IT 

don’t harass the author, don’t post a big whiny rant about it on Tumblr, just keep scrolling

that is your job as a reader.

I absolutely think adults, especially parents, ascribe manipulative intent to children when they shouldn't and it's absolutely a problem but it's always kind of funny to me when people go online and proclaim that children are incapable of manipulation. When I was three I asked my mom to get my older sibling their favorite candy bar at the grocery story because I knew she'd get me mine too as a reward for being thoughtful and that was way more likely to succeed than if I just asked for a candy bar for me. And it worked. Children scheme at a developmentally appropriate level the trick is not assuming children scheme at an adult level.
