Linktober Day 8. Tunic

#linktober #linktober 2024 #the legend of zelda #wind waker #ocarina of time #loz #loz ww #loz oot #link #josh art tag #had a lot of fun with this one despite how annoying it was to draw #oot link was at a difficult angle and i also just could not shade this for the life of me. restarted the shading like 3 times #i think im reaching that point in the cycle i typically go thru with my artstylr where ive grown tired of my shading style #to the point that i forget how to do it and it never quite looks right #so if my next post features changes to my artstyle thats why lol #but i enjoyed making this despite that cuz i like the ideas behind it!#i normally wouldve redesigned ww!link's outfit but i purposefully drew it accurately #to highlight how its more like a costume. cuz thats kinda what it was! and its modeled after the hero of times clothes #but is pretty innacurate. which i think is cool.. shows how much time has passed and how the view of the hero of time has warped #so i also purposefully made oot link wearing my redesigned outfit for him (even if you cant see much of it at this angle)#to further emphasize how ww!link's outfit is not only essentially a costume but is also quite innacurate #i like having ww!link ditch the costume for something else to show how he stops being some kid in oot!link's shadow #and grows into a true hero of his own #hence my ww!link redesign where i put him back in the lobster shirt. but i do keep some green and something similar to the hat #to have him fit in with the other links while still being unique #look i have a lot of feelings about ww!link and oot!link #i wish zelda would do more stuff like this... i think having oot relate to wind waker makes the story more interesting #and makes ww!link more interesting! cuz he cant be the hero of time they want. but he does become the real hero they need #the oot ww tp trio is so good... and they all work great as standalone games but their connections do really add something

modern got au in which asha is a "teen parent"

or more accurately, asha and theon have a much larger age gap, 10/15-ish years, type of age gap (she's at least 18/19 and theon's only like 4/5), and in a series of freak events, their lives are turned on its head.

their brothers were dead. their mother and father were ruled incompetent, the former left a shell of herself after the loss of her sons, no longer able to care for her remaining children, the latter was never a father to begin with and he didn't seem to have any wish to become one now.

she was an adult by law, meaning she was free from the hell that was the system. her kid brother - the one who smiled at her for seemingly no reason, the one who crawled into her bed when thunder rattled the house, the brother who held her hand on their rare family outings - was not.

she couldn't leave him there, even if she wanted to, even if it would make her life so much easier. she wouldn't abandon him like the rest of their shitty family. he was blood for fucks sake, she'd die before she let's him get taken away from her and given away to strangers to be used and exploited or treated like a shelter puppy to be pitied and fawned over.

cue asha fighting for custody of her baby brother, doing whatever it takes to be deemed a suitable guardian, and the two of them taking on the world together.

more thoughts:

they have to find an apartment cause they can't afford to keep their family home. moving into the cheapest place they can find with only the stuff they can fit in asha's truck, sharing an air matress and eating off of a coffee table while watching movies they rented from the library.

asha cleaning her brother up before his first day at his new school, trying to get him to look suitable, but not really knowing what suitable means for a kid going into kindergarten/first grade

theon comforting his sister when she gets overwhelmed with it all, doing his best to ease her tears. the night ending with them both curled around each other, just two scared little kids trying their best.

asha fighting anyone she has to to keep custody of theon, whether it be the social worker, the judge, people who called cps to report her. she doesn't care, no one will take away her baby brother.

asha taking theon to work with her (she works in a boat shop cause she already knows what she's doing) and having to keep him entertained while she works so they don't get sent home.

their first christmas/birthdays by themselves. theon putting together gifts at school (finger paintings or paper mache or something of the like) and asha cherishing it forever. asha spending all the money left to her name each time to get him something nice so eh can feel like a normal kid.

theon doing sports in school (little league or something) and asha making sure she goes to every damn game, being the loudest in the stands.

asha getting more and more used to being physically affectionate with her brother at time goes on. before everything she'd tense up when he'd hug her legs or hold her hand, but now she scoops him up like a rag doll, ruffles his hair, kisses his forehead, without a second thought.

#I just think the spin on their dynamic. with him being so much younger than her. the only bit of family she has left. completely dependent-#on her. all of that. would be so interesting #it puts her in this position where she needs to learn to be softer and gentler for his sake instead of just all tough and mean to survive #and just imagine them together #she has to be a parent. she's gotta bathe him. feed him. clothe him. put him to bed. put him through school. deal with bullies. talk to-#his teachers and his friends parents. she's gotta be the 'teen mom' who everyone's always judging and staring at.#all while she's working and finding them a place to stay and learning to be an adult and coping with the loss of her family #and theon's just a kid. he's gonna have bad days. he's gonna throw tantrums. he's gonna need to be held. he's gonna get sick #and he's coping too. his big brother's are dead. his mother essentially died with them. his father gave them up. he's too young to really-#understand any of it. he just knows they're gone.#they're gonna struggle. but they're gonna make it #and maybe they run into some familiar faces along the way #maybe theon is take from her briefly and we meet the starks (maybe they offer to lend her a hand while she gets herself together)#maybe the shop she works in is run by our man davos who is always willing to help out someone. especially kids. in need (he lets theon come #to the shop and lets her take time off to attend to his events. etc.)#idk. I'm starting to get worried about giving birth...

#ignore me #what if i forget to pack essentials in the bag??#like what if the clothes i pack for her are too warm?#babies are shit at Temperature regulation #or what if i forget something completely obvious???#also do i need to pack diapers and clothes for every day of my stay if i have to go to the hospital???#the apartment isn't fully finished and I'm starting to get stressed #but also I'm only awake at hours where i can't finish the resy #and what if i won't be a good mom?#hell i haven't interacted with kids for over half a year #and she'll be so tiny!!! what if i crush her??#or accidentally hurt her in some other way???#babies are so fragile #what if i feed her too little? like they lose weight the first couple of days #what if i dont notice not giving her enough food?#or if we both are too exhausted and miss a night feeding cause her crying doesnt wake us?#i could traumatize her before she even has the ability to really recognize faces!#also what if i eat wrong and then she ends up with pain or other issues??#and how close do i allow the cats to be? what if they accidentally hurt her???#she has like no immune system! even a cold could kill her #and sometimes you dokt notice right away if you have a cold and then you visit someone #i got so many anxieties and more than half are that I'll make mistakes that could harm her #like what if she gets an allergy cause i use face cream?#my mom did so many things you werent supposed to do and we survived so i think she should be fine right?#also don't get me started on birth #like I'm not scared of the pain or anything i trust my body and the mid wives #but I'm gonna make such a mess #and I'm not sure what to wear??#do i help cleaning afterwards or what is the procedure??

Gender discussions with my mom can either be life changing or depressing smh

hey yall so like I just had a convo w my mom and we were talking about gender. Heavy topic yeah. Then I like mentioned how baby boys can also be dressed in like pink dresses and stuff and she lost her shit. Like she was comparing it to if a man bore his chest in public, to a woman bearing her chest in public. And said that there were some limits to breaking gender boundaries.

Then I had a thought. The reason women can't bear their breasts in public, and men can, is because of the oppression women face. Even though a woman's breast has more use and is needed for a baby's growth, they are sexualized and seen as sex organs, when they are just a secondary sex characteristic.

And I also thought that, if putting dresses on baby boys was bad, because the children didn't have any say or will on it, then isn't dressing them up in the more traditional boy clothing also bad ? What about the clothing that has very gross and creepy writing ? What about the baby's clothing that had things like, heart breaker or ladies' man written on it ? Was that not also a bad thing because the children do not have any free will to reject or accept those clothes ?

Why is it that a simple dress is seen as unacceptable?? Why is it that a baby's clothing can cause discourse in people ??

I mean back in the medieval times boys were put in dresses, even in Asian (I am Asian) cultures dresses were common. So I don't think there's anything wrong with putting a baby boy in a dress, but my entire fam thinks it's disgusting haha

Ahmed's and Dina's family: A family with 3 kids and one newborn. Urgently needs funds for medical treatment and essential goods. With winter approaching, these funds become crucial for affording winter clothes.

Rawan's family: $8k urgently needed to help take care of her mother, who needs treatment for a tumor. The funds will also be going to support her family as they await the crossing to open for evacuation.

Alaa's family: She is trying to care for her two very young kids, the younger of which has a skin infection that needs to be treated. She is facing constant bombardment and needs help.

Aya's family: She is helping to take care of 19 family members, including 9 children.

Walid's family: Walid is 3 and has two sisters, Layan (2) and Toleen (6). He is disabled and needs treatment.

Rawan and Yemna's family: two sisters and their father who need access to essential goods to live.

All of these campaigns are equally urgent and I can understand the difficulty in choosing one to donate to, especially if you don't have much to spare.

But it's better to choose one than to let indecision keep you from choosing any.

Also, your one donation won't solve everything (unless you're a millionaire and can spare tens of thousands at a time LOL) so, and I say this in the nicest and most gentle way possible, get over yourself!
