I work in IT and also did my thesis on AI, only now in the masters degree we got a subject on the ethics of AI, which (fortunately) is mandatory, but I was so disillusioned when the first discussion on deepfake and its exploitation started none of the male students saw this as an acceptable justification why deepfake should be heavily regulated and forbidden for individual use a distribution. And their explanation? "Because it is fake after all, what is the harm?". I was so grateful to our professor who grilled the guy who said it for like 10 minutes asking what if someone did that of him. At the end many others took the subject and him (the professor) more serious.
But that really makes me think about the solutions for that problem. Because usually I'm not an "eye for an eye" kind of person, but when it's about distribution of artificial pornography especially of that kind I really want to doxx those perpetrators and just give them a taste of their own medicine, also making such horrible humiliation rooms for them so others will be deterred. I know in practice that is probably impossible and would require a lot of group effort but I just want those people who did stuff so nonchalantly understand what it's like. Because I deeply believe that anyone can be rehabilitated. Of course doing it by doxxing and creating deepfakes of the perpetrators is kind of against that but I really don't know how else those people can be broadly and efficiently corrected in their behaviour (meaning without wasting so much time single talking to each of them and convincing them to stop).
What are your thoughts on that? Do you think if possible there should be a vigilante like response to that or rather rely on (inter)national media pressure to get the governments to pass useful laws AND implement them?
first of all, thank you for sending this question. second of all, i am glad your professor grilled that guy because truly i remember when ai started to become more popular and i remember seeing a lot of feminists and women online say that this could eventually become dangerous and become a tool to harass women even further and with all of these deepfake ai cases happening around the world it's proving just that. taking someone's likeness to generate something should not be allowed or you shouldn't get away with it without consequences and this is a hill that i am gonna die on because i hate the fact that it's something that is becoming more and more utilized to do things like this and since there aren't any regulations or laws around ai, people just get away with doing the worst possible things like deepfakes of sexual nature.
honestly, i feel there will be time that governments will have to do something about this since this is becoming an issue, especially towards women and it's being talked about more and more as of recent so i would like to believe something will be made but it's obviously taking a lot of time for anything to happen. so i mean... i do believe that people who do these heinous acts should be exposed and shamed publicly since, like you said, feel so comfortable doing this to others surely they would like to be exposed to do world right? (sarcasm)
but anyways, i believe there may eventually be a law of some kind around ai and deepfakes of this kind. still, the truth is people, especially women, have to do everything they can to protect themselves even if it means going to such lengths to expose whoever did it and also keep this subject alive and look out for each other which is also important. we live in a deeply misogynistic society and make up ways to oppress women even further and truly i don't blame women for doing something radical to protect themselves for the time being
#idek if i exactly answered this question right but 😭#i want to keep talking about ai and how it's dangerous to women specifically rn#and it's sad that we now have another thing to worry about#as if our existence isn't as hard as it is#it's disheartening to see women around the world having to deal with this#and it has been concerning me greatly and i've been thinking about it a lot#i've talked about ai in this blog a lot#especially when it comes to music#and it's proving to be really harmful in many fronts and it needs to be taken seriously#so thank you for sending me this ask!#asks#anon

So lately I’ve been seeing a lot of posts asking people to stop trying to make Odysseus look nice in their works cuz he’s a messed-up person in the mythology”. Your opinion is valid however I have but one thing to point out:
You want to know who started all this? Who started to “make Odysseus look nice” in the first place?
It’s Homer. It’s nobody else but Homer himself.
A non-Homeric Odysseus would try to murder people out of his own interests. He’d murder Palamedes without remorse (and we’d be cheering over this but it’s a murder after all), he’d attempt to murder Diomedes just to get the Palladium himself, he’d volunteer to kill Astyanax…meanwhile you wouldn’t find any mention of either Palamedes or Nauplius in Homer’s poems, neither did he mention anything abt the Palladium heist (and Diomedes necessity did not happen until Conon’s version), the death of Astyanax, the distribution of war prizes, etc. And all the details in the Odyssey seemed to deny the existence of Nauplius’s vengeance at all, so Odysseus would not take any of the blame.
A non-Homeric Odysseus would be depicted as “cruel, treacherous”, meanwhile in book 10 of the Iliad Odysseus was not mentioned to have killed anyone during the marauding, neither did he promise Dolan anything at all. The negative interpretations are denied by these details subtly put by Homer.
A non-Homeric Odysseus would be widely known as a “coward” for only shooting arrows from afar. But Homer gave him a spear and had him absolutely slaying in both the Iliad and the Odyssey. That part of Ajax’s speech was invalid already.
Most importantly—a non-Homeric Odysseus would be having kids everywhere else, and the loyalty to his own wife as seen in the Odyssey is no where to be found. Meanwhile his lineage was a single-son line made by Zeus in the Odyssey, and his love for Penelope was one of his main drives, especially seen in book 5 of the Odyssey. He loved his family as a loving parent—something you don’t get to see in most of the non-Homeric writings—for most of the time they followed a different tradition indeed, in which Odysseus wasn’t half as nice as in the Odyssey.
TL;DR: in case you haven’t noticed, the characterization of the Homeric Odysseus was quite different from a non-Homeric version of Odysseus. It’s not that Homer didn’t know of the existence of other versions—he knew them too well, which is why in his version of the story, you don’t get to see any mention of them.
#and now hot take: your opinion is invalid cuz there isn’t supposed to be such a term as “nice” when describing a person#he did not join the war willingly and the war crimes he did were out of necessity#no god has judged him on these “war crimes” so neither should you#not especially when you’re basing it on your modernized view of this matter while the ideology of heroes is so different in ancient times#there isn’t such a term as “nice” or “not nice” when it comes to an Ancient Greek hero#they’re complicated persons with feats on their shoulders and family of their own#tagamemnon#the iliad#the odyssey#homer’s iliad#homer’s odyssey#the epic cycle#homer#odysseus#epic the musical#tagging epic cuz I’ve seen such opinions directing at Epic!Odysseus—but how on earth was he a “nice” person#he did much horrible things in act 2 and isn’t that what you would like to see or did I smell double standards?#*shrugs* I do not direct this at anyone—just at some specific opinions I’ve read online#anyways there’ll always be arguments but let’s just agree on the fact that he’s a grey character and he did stay grey in these adaptations#so fricking tired of these negative commentaries which are not constructive at all#Lyculī sermōnēs

im really not a fan of Rick's recent trend of recycling bits of his writing that got a good reaction the first time and acting as if that's a valid substitute for. actually bothering to write something original a second time around. It's clearly just there as a callback and nothing more.
It's "Nico's rage exploded" and "Percy's rage exploded" with the exact same paragraph formatting. It's CoTG having titles like "My Singing Makes Things Worse, and Everyone Is Totally Shocked" (reference to TLO, when Percy says he thinks his singing would cause an avalanche) or "Pretty Much the Best Good-Night Kiss Ever" (reference to TLO "Pretty much the best underwater kiss of all time") or any other number of near word-for-word references to the first series. It's Nico calling Percy "seaweed brain" in Un Natale Mezzosangue (when Percy says in TTC that anybody but Annabeth calling him that is a major offense). It's Nico and Will falling into Tartarus in TSATS word-for-word referencing Percy and Annabeth in House of Hades, despite it not making any sense for their characters (and otherwise being written as Percabeth 2™). It's the show making huge changes but keeping random "fan-favorite references" (mostly overusing "seaweed brain" and "wise girl" and emphasizing percabeth) only because they're popular in-jokes and considering that a faithful enough adaptation to market it heavily as such. It's lazy writing.
And it's a disservice to the series and to the audience, because it clearly shows Rick doesn't have original ideas anymore (though given all his writing is heavily derivative to begin with, it begs the question how much was original in the first place and how much he has difficulty when he doesn't have a structured mythological plot to work from) and that there is an expectation that the audience will just sit down and accept that behavior hook-line-and-sinker. Everything recently is clearly such lip-service to the audience, either in retcons that are overt speaking-to-camera acknowledgements of things he's been criticized on or wink-wink-nudge-nudges of community in-jokes that have no business in the actual text (see: over-use of ship names in canon). Especially since Rick tends to be about 5 years behind on the fandom uptake. It's just so disappointing to see.
#pjo#riordanverse#tsats crit#pjo tv crit#rr crit#< OH BOY A TRIPLE#MCGA's reference to Jason's concussions in the chapter titles is on thin ice but can stay for now#callbacks can work! in-jokes and references can work! see: Percy's dam joke in Son of Neptune#or Percy in the musical making the joke about his singing causing an avalanche as a reference to TLO#or any other number of references in the musical#but you need to know when they belong and when they ABSOLUTELY DO NOT#and when it's a fun nod and when it just feels like you're copying your own homework#a great example actually - i was recently reading an *excellent* fic by @vivitalks#and in it Jason uses the phrase ''you knock me out'' as a fun nod to Jason's ''you're a knock-out'' in TLH#that's a good little reference! that's how you do it!#a character who has already used one phrase uses a similar phrase. because theyre the type of person to say that phrase.#that's already been established. and it highlights something about their character that they return to that phrase#in that fic it highlights that Jason is a total dork especially when it comes to romance#Percy's ''dam'' joke reference in SoN works because it's only used once very briefly and it's very quickly brushed by#and it's literally Percy making a reference to his own past and acknowledging that he's doing that. it's his own in-joke! that's reasonable#it's not reasonable to expect FOUR DIFFERENT PEOPLE to have the EXACT SAME REACTION to FALLING INTO SUPERHELL#especially when they're established to all be EXTREMELY DIFFERENT CHARACTERS with DIFFERENT DYNAMICS#long post //

okay very preliminary thoughts on mitski's new album BUT i think there's something with how "laurel hell" felt like a goodbye to the music industry (can't find the source but i remember reading that it was intended to be her last album under her contract) like i'm sorry anthony fantano but if you interpret the back half of "laurel hell" as being generic breakup songs you're missing like 80% of the context. to me TO ME it feels so clearly about her negotiating her relationship with fame, how she can't love her fans the way they love her, and how she feels like she sold her soul to her job, so the only thing to do is step away. but THEN "the land is inhospitable and so are we" was created after mitski decided to renegotiate her contract, specifically because she loved making music enough to deal with the negative aspects of the work. and then all the songs are about the ghost of love she can leave behind, despite the present pain or emptiness, and like. do you see it. do you see it.
#THE NARRATIVE.#beepbeep.txt#mitski#like you can definitely interpret everything through the lens of personal romantic relationships BUT. i think its even better#envisioning that she is speaking to her actual audience. the love they have for her and the love she is trying to communicate to them#i mean especially “i don't like my mind” just feels like a response to “love me more” where she begs to keep her job#specifically so she doesn't have to be alone with all these thoughts. so she can be witnessed#but then i feel like “the deal” and “when memories snow” are responses to “working for the knife” and “everyone” where her job leaves her#feeling emptied out of all this pain and love simultaneously. hence the ghostliness of the whole album#and her coming to terms with this feeling of emptiness. or actually. the loneliness of having no witnesses at all. after the music.#being king of her own land. if one would like to use that turn of phrase#IS ANYONE ELSE GOING INSANE OR.

ya know, what made epic the musical such a joy for me personally is seeing it actually develop throughout its 4-5 year long history and I don't just mean like from the ground up and everything. I mean it in a way as someone who immediately clocked Jorge Rivera-Herrans as a fellow playwright heavily inspired by Lin Manuel Miranda's style - which fucking meant of course most of the early publicized drafts of epic were raps because of course they are (this is not meant to be a slight because like I totally get him)!
But like actually seeing Jorge apply the lessons in LMM's writing into his own original style that is befitting to the story he wants to tell - and not only that, he literally took his audience along with him on his journey with every tried-and-tested demo and audition and everything, and the actual pre-production and production process of writing an album is something we don't usually get at all, especially in something as extensive as a musical concept album!
Like what really had EPIC make it's mark on the internet and on musical theatre (especially INDIE MT) is that it was a literal Odyssey of sorts - the creation of this entire fucking thing was a journey from beginning to end and we were all invited to witness it from behind the scenes while also having many artists among fans be a part in its creation one way or another, while also observing how Jay had his own artistic development throughout - from someone whose epic was quite obviously heavily stylized after Hamilton, into an artist whose style he can call truly his own.
I have so much more to say on how and why epic became such an iconic piece of work and perhaps being the first MT work in 2020 to truly define the decade, but all in all let's just say I'm glad to have witnessed the growth of an artist - and I'm excited to see what art this will inspire in turn.
#like fjdjs i've seen a lot of people compare jay to lmm which i get it because like duh#but also ive grown to notice that epic like really took a turn for the better when it was less stylized after hamilton#and moreso made with lmm's techniques in mind - but as a foundation and not like a blueprint to follow#likelook at epic now and epic circa 2021 like there are a lot of parts from both that scream 'yep lmm inspired this' ESPECIALLY in motif use#but throughout the progression in between we see jorge come into his own and the songs having their own melody#while still retaining recognizable wordplay ala lmm#i dunno like im speaking personally as a writer whose earliest musical drafts were my attempts at emulating lmm#like i just loved watching the epic growth journey so much because like thats what i wanna become and everything#the journey of growing into a style they can truly call their own while also paying homage to those that inspired them through their lessons#i just find it neat#epic is great#okay thats enough praises now its time for the saga tier list#pfffft there will be more praises and analyses coming up should i like find the time#but yea check epic my dudes its a damn good piece of work#aLSO THE CHALLENGE IS THE BEST SONG IN THE ENTIRE DAMN MUSICAL SO FUCKING GOOD#epic#epic the musical#jorge rivera herrans#lin manuel miranda#hamilton#the odyssey

the crazy thing about Liam is that I finally got to a point a few weeks ago where reminders of his death became a sort of sad exhale and a "shit. that really happened, huh?" But any time I allow myself to ruminate on it for more than a moment, his absence descends again upon me like a dark shroud. Because how can one of those boys be gone? Forever? How can this band that I've loved for so long be so permanently altered? It's so fucking wild and difficult for me to comprehend in that context. And in the context of age, the fact that I am still relatively young and have gone through the death of a childhood idol already? The fact that he was so young? It's just so immensely devastating in a way that feels so intangible because he is not and never has been a tangible part of my life. Parasocial grief is really something else, huh?
#it's like how can I ever fully comprehend that he's gone when he was never directly in my life to begin with?#how long will it take for the lack of new pictures videos music etc. from him to create a void?#how long will it take before I'm fully able to process he's gone?#I know it sounds crazy but I genuinely feel like that day won't come until I see the four remaining boys together#I don't really feel like anything else could solidify him being gone for me and I find that somewhat disturbing#like why must he exist in that vacuum? why must his death be contextualized in that way?#I guess because he's just such an inherent and integral part of that band for me? I'm not sure.#but it upsets me that i feel like that's a necessary step in my grief. why can't I just accept it and move on with happy memories?#why must I be presented with his absence in such a visceral way? especially because it would make such a reunion so bitter for me...#sorry u guys are my therapist tn#just thinking of him...always thinking of him...for the past four months...#liam payne#one direction

good day for me today, art-wise
#yet the question remains: who is this DIVA?💜#i guess it's high time i told you a little more about henrietta#as you already know - shes zbyszek's girlfriend#(which means she has a thing for drummers lol)#she and edek went to the same high school and were in THE SAME CLASS... edek used to have a crush on her and even asked her out to prom#she declined though. he wasn't in her type at all. he wasn't a drummer /lh#henrietta is kind of a popular girl?!? like she knows almost everyone at whatever party she decides to go and the boys go crazy over her..#the girls do too#what's funny is that she for sure doesn't remember any names of people at said party. no memory for names whatsoever#she is also often percieved as cold or unpleasant but you know. god forbid a woman has her own opinion and dares to say it out loud#however her bluntness sometimes actually comes off as being mean:( but she means no harm!! unless she does...#about her interests - she is obsessed with cinema and films ESPECIALLY musicals#she would love to become a musical actress someday but there isn't a person who is more tone deaf than her. she can't sing for SHIT#buuuut she excels at sewing and designing clothes!! actually everything that she wears was made by her#henrietta has learned how to sew because of her mom who is a seamstress by profession and also. because growing up they were very poor#and when you can't afford new clothes - why don't just make em yourself?#she studies fashion in art college (the same one that edek goes to. what a surprise that he is ALSO there)#she is also very keen on literature! she particularly adores the works of franz kafka and will automatically like anything thats grotesque#oh and she used do dress more gothic in high school. maybe thats why edek had a crush on her...#she still considers herself a goth despite not embracing the subculture visually. all you gotta do is listen to the music!#she even named her two cats siouxsie and bowie!!#my art#original character#drawing#oc#sketch#sketchbook spread#traditional art#pen sketch#artists on tumblr

i saw a post saying boom was good bc it feels like it could be done with any doctor/companion duo and honestly that was one of the things i felt was wrong with it
#in a show with a title character that could be Literally Anyone and a companion sharing the lead that could be Literally Anyone#i value the little moments that set this duo apart from the rest. ESPECIALLY when it comes to returning writers like rtd/moff#fifteen and ruby felt a little too eleven/twelve and clara adjacent in boom. in both their dialogue and characterization#space babies also landed a little weird at first bc it lifted a bit from end of the world BUT the scenes that fifteen and ruby#had to themselves. like ruby getting covered in snot and fifteen laughing. or fifteen and ruby looking after the Space Babies#or fifteen going out of his way to save the monster bc that monster is the only one of its kind Just Like Him Fr#that stuff is so good and its also something we haven't seen from another nuwho doctor. the vulnerable bleeding-heart empathy#and a dynamic w a companion that is basically 'two troublemakers that just deeply love fun and adventure and getting into trouble together'#oh yeah and also the devil's chord was peak fiction because it touches on fifteen's renewed connection and love for humanity#and marries it to ruby being a musician and how music like any art is the expression of the human soul etc etc#WHAT MAKES A DOCTOR WHO STORY GOOD TO ME IS PARTLY HOW THE PREMISE TIES INTO THE DOCTOR AND COMPANION'S CHARACTERS#IT HAS TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS TAILOR MADE TO THEM. ELSE IT WONT LAND RIGHT TO ME#i hate the take that they should've saved wild blue yonder for a fifteen episode bc#the tension is hinged on how well the doctor/companion know each other. u have a level of it that u can ONLY get#with fourteen and donna who are two halves of a whole soul but have also spent much more time missing the other than knowing them#im not rewatching fifteen's eps rn until a week later when i can watch it w my qpp but#rn i still feel a stronger sense of fifteen and ruby's characters from all the rtd-written eps rather moffat#which like. i get that a lot of that is my personal dislike of moffat's writing style but still#dr who#15 era#dw spoilers
