Honestly all the conversation about "x or y made me stop watching anime," I've never heard anybody bring up mythological window dressing
Like I will never forget the frustrated anger I felt having watched God Eater with friends, seeing all the mythological connections and drawing conclusions based on them, and quickly realizing it all meant nothing. I was so fucking mad I gave the show up immediately! And it's something I've seen used in a lot of series over the years, and avoided as a result. Other than just not hanging out with as many people watching anime, and just being much older than most show's intended audiences, it's probably the biggest factor contributing to my drop in interest in anime.
Interestingly Evangelion is completely admittedly a very successful use of mythology window dressing but somehow the plot and events are so big-picture and nuts that it works anyway??
#and not to bring up drakengard#esp since it's not even an anime#but you can totally pull a few elements and concepts from mythology without getting that in depth & still do something incredible with them#that game's like we're giving you basically no explanations for anything but grigori are real and have decided to cleanse/destroy your worl#the only way it hasn't happened before is because living people have been used as the fucking seals from Revelations#it's now actual Ragnarok and you will literally fight to the death against apocalyptic cultists until there's nobody left#also these angels are for real giant babies because *insert cherubim joke*#best case scenario they kill you all and reseed the earth in their own image#worst case they kill you all and reseed the world with abominations grown out of your dead sister's dna#where is god in all this?? wouldn't you like to know-- or maybe not 😉#and then to pad out the rest of the plot??#they made make every character the worst possible inversion of an intimate relationship dynamic#= fucking genius idk

I am A SUCKER for found family. they fed me so well.#funny thing was the barok character development surprised me despite the fact that I also expected it since the first game lolol.#I do think he's an interesting character and probably one of the best character development in the game. And that I find his design cool.#oh yeah I didn't draw it but when I saw that albert mentioned that barok is “the darling of the van zieks family” I was genuinely like.#huh? wdym. like man at the time “van zieks” and “little darling” feels wrong in the same sentence. that was until I saw his pre-#-trauma pictures n well. albert isn't wrong. which was a slight surprise to me.#In conclusion: I liked it a lot. and now occupies parts of my brain along with my other brainrots.#They fight for priority in my brain whenever I try to sleep or disassociate lol. Hello! This is really random I'm sorry. In your recent comic with the toy store shopkeeps, one of them is a bird! Inquiring bird nerds want to know, are they based on a specific species? My first thought was Canada jay but the white outer tail feathers don't match perfectly, and my boyfriend guessed they were some kind of tit! Very curious and would love to hear if you had a specific species in mind for the birdy when designing. :]
I DID! I'm pleased you asked.
Canada Jay's a great guess based on the markings, but he was indeed based on a kind of tit. A Long-Tailed Tit, to be exact!
I knew I wanted to pick a round-shaped bird with this kind of head marking (to evoke male pattern baldness haha), and just looked at different species of birds that live in colder environments until I found one I liked the look of. Not the most precise resemblance (I still need practice drawing birds), but I'm happy that I captured the look well enough that his tit-ness was recognizable.
#i don't usually get this specific with species for my main characters#because then i'm more focused on trying to capture how they look and feel in their original human design in a furry form#and making their design relatively easy for me to draw repeatedly and expressively#and the resemblance to a real life animal isn't that important to me in comparison to those things#but with random background characters where there's no original design to go off of i try to do more specific species just for fun#since they don't need to be as expressive or uniquely featured#but anyway i'm trying to do more birds since i think they're cool but they're definitely harder to capture than mammals#i think i need to work on the way their heads are proportioned - i have the impulse to just shove the beak where the nose goes on a human#and that just looks awkward because the beak is also their mouth#also don't even get me started on whether to do wing hands or not. obviously i went with the simpler option of 'scaly hands'#but i don't know if that's the RIGHT option (esp since chocodile does wing hands for amaranthine birds)#ANYWAY RAMBLE RAMBLE RAMBLE i appreciate the ask - thank you bird nerds!#text

How’s Fields of Mistria? You mentioning it was the second time I heard of it, the first time being in passing, so I’m not too knowledgeable about the game.

Fields of Mistria is SUPER fun, since there's not much to do in it after you've completed the first year right now, I've dedicated myself to breeding and collecting all the seasonal variants of horses so I can name them after the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!
I also named all my barns after metamorphised lovers in greek myth because I have exactly one thought running through my head at any given point in time (Currently there's Crocus Coop where I keep my (gorgeous wonderful lovely adorable ouugh I LOVE THEMMM!!) blue chickens
Cypress Barn where I keep my wonderful cows (who have been with me the longest and whom I cherish immensely! I'm not sure if Autumn cows are possible but I'm definitely aiming for a barn of all red and autumnal cows for obvious reasons)
Minthe Barn where I keep all of my other large animals like sheep, alpacas and my very first beloved Chiron (black and white) and Iris (brown with spots) (the foal is Rigel) 🥺
And Hyacinthus Barn where I have a collection of small animals like rabbits, capybaras and my PRIZED DUCKS LEDA (the pretty blue and green duckie) AND CYCNUS (the pure white duck meant to mimic a swan!!) Even though it's technically a coop, I mistakenly labelled it a barn when I was inputting the name and I never changed it LOL
My farm is also named after THE metamorphosized lover, Daphne herself, so it's called Laurel Farm
And I'm planning for my Seasonal Horse barn to be named after the poplar since I quite like Leuke's story and I think she's fitting of housing the horses that will be the steeds of War, Pestilence, Conquest and Famine :)
Bonus: My house is still small and eclectically decorated, but keeping in theme with my farm, I do hope to go for a flower/garden theme

Hating the fact I’m on the *one* single person in existence who is so use to new getter dub that the sub is weird to hear despite it objectively being better. News dub isn’t bad as it again is the only dub we got that actually had ACTORS and solid directing, but I get why for a few reasons people still don’t like it and would prefer to watch the sub for the main factor Hideo and Naoya revise their roles again so they already have more experience in acting especially with the characters compared to Lex and Kirk-
But yet every time I’ve heard the sub it’s felt- weird. Like Ryoma being 20 and having a deep ass voice is just a anime thing but it feels wrong to me, even if Hideo can absolutely kill the battle yells better than Lex, Lex just sounds more believable as a 20 year old to me and still puts in some range in with Ryoma. He’s never flat, he shows Ryoma being angry, chill and sometimes whiny lol at points so his basic line deliverys still have weight to it even if his yells aren’t as powerful as Hideo’s. (But I can’t exactly blame him for not pushing it when Hideo LITERALLY said playing Ryoma as arma killed his throat and idk how New faired 💀)
Naoya I haven’t heard enough of in New but while I really love his crazy laughs in Hayato’s debut ep, he kinda runs into the same issue as Hideo as he sounds too old portraying as younger version of the character. I wouldn’t say Kirk exactly sounds 20-though Hayato age is never specified-but despite “ahaha funny Shadow voice” I genuinely think the gruff approach fits him. There are some shaky lines here and there as I think Kirk sticking to a smoother tone for Hayato tends to sound better, but Hayato is absolutely the type of guy to always sound like he smoked one to many cigars LOL. (Also unlike Lex, Kirk can actually do really good battle screams! Genuinely the “NOW YOUR MINE” in ep 7 by him sounds really good)
The others I didn’t really mention as they aren’t returning roles and from what I heard they match up pretty well to the sub, but also I never expected making a word salad about preferring a fucking dub all cause I was rewatching bits for something but here we are 💀 (I still do wanna watch new fully subbed one day though)

Not having new linear games post 5 its judt that sims 4 wasnt even supposed to Be The Sims 4 it was a last minute pivot and the base code is so outdated and was broken On launch so like. i just wish we could have the final actual sims game be like. one that was always intented to be a major sims release AND be intended to be so long term . yk

it's embarassing as hell, but sometimes i wish could discuss a certain anime i rewatched a few months ago with others to both bitch about the terrible parts and gush about the good parts
#kind of the epitome of 'i'm obsessed with this. i don't recommend it even slightly' for me#unless you can put up with anime bullshit#and while it isn't extremely high on that scale#there was enough wrt gender roles that left me groaning esp since it takes place 200 years in the future#otoh some of the characters were pretty interesting#and the relationship between a trans girl and her boyfriend towards the end of the series was sweet for the most part imo

aka the timber scouts! they're basically just a bunch of kids in a sort of guild prep-course. so, not a real full official guild, but functions like one. all the kids have different woodland animal gimmicks to go with the scout vibe. They have a very loose shared uniform too, they're pretty much allowed to customize however they want as long as they keep the white button-up, brown outerwear, dark brown bottoms, and brown boots. also like a lot of kids in other guilds, their weapons are toys or otherwise "safter" items. Again, y'all wanna talk about how VR-LA's still not over MR-SN. but also the last two lines as being MR-SN's POV, the 'red strings' being a reference to the red strings of fate (strings that tie lovers/soulmates together... aaa), MR-SN (or well, Mystra, I guess) literally defying fate so that they can meet again. 镜重圆 here is likely referring to 破镜重圆, a phrase that directly translates to "mending a broken mirror" and basically refers to couples (generally romantic) reconciling/reuniting after a breakup/some kind of separation which... i mean yeah thats literally just 3.7 huh. MR-SN coming back from the dead to give VR-LA closure and catharsis. anyway i'm gonna go lie on the floor now
