Honestly all the conversation about "x or y made me stop watching anime," I've never heard anybody bring up mythological window dressing
Like I will never forget the frustrated anger I felt having watched God Eater with friends, seeing all the mythological connections and drawing conclusions based on them, and quickly realizing it all meant nothing. I was so fucking mad I gave the show up immediately! And it's something I've seen used in a lot of series over the years, and avoided as a result. Other than just not hanging out with as many people watching anime, and just being much older than most show's intended audiences, it's probably the biggest factor contributing to my drop in interest in anime.
Interestingly Evangelion is completely admittedly a very successful use of mythology window dressing but somehow the plot and events are so big-picture and nuts that it works anyway??
#and not to bring up drakengard#esp since it's not even an anime#but you can totally pull a few elements and concepts from mythology without getting that in depth & still do something incredible with them#that game's like we're giving you basically no explanations for anything but grigori are real and have decided to cleanse/destroy your worl#the only way it hasn't happened before is because living people have been used as the fucking seals from Revelations#it's now actual Ragnarok and you will literally fight to the death against apocalyptic cultists until there's nobody left#also these angels are for real giant babies because *insert cherubim joke*#best case scenario they kill you all and reseed the earth in their own image#worst case they kill you all and reseed the world with abominations grown out of your dead sister's dna#where is god in all this?? wouldn't you like to know-- or maybe not 😉#and then to pad out the rest of the plot??#they made make every character the worst possible inversion of an intimate relationship dynamic#= fucking genius idk

I am normal#WHICH SPEAKING OF! man I love the sholmes + mikotoba partner twist so much even if i got a bit spoiled about it. i just think they're neat.#The partners of all time I think.#Also also the found family!?!?!? I am A SUCKER for found family. they fed me so well.#funny thing was the barok character development surprised me despite the fact that I also expected it since the first game lolol.#I do think he's an interesting character and probably one of the best character development in the game. And that I find his design cool.#oh yeah I didn't draw it but when I saw that albert mentioned that barok is “the darling of the van zieks family” I was genuinely like.#huh? wdym. like man at the time “van zieks” and “little darling” feels wrong in the same sentence. that was until I saw his pre-#-trauma pictures n well. albert isn't wrong. which was a slight surprise to me.#In conclusion: I liked it a lot. and now occupies parts of my brain along with my other brainrots.#They fight for priority in my brain whenever I try to sleep or disassociate lol. favourite stupid relationship dynamic: idiots who would immediately protect and defend the other but never themself
#still thinking about how lxl just takes whatever life throws at them without fighting back (esp in the lxl movie)#so it was up to the other (mainly yujiro) to do the protecting (of aizo) since he was clearly not going to do anything about it#poor yujiro never fought back against the longleg/shortleg until aizo was brought up… no sense of self-preservation with that one#‘you can mess with me but not my bf!!!!!’ kind of energy#ig aizo did kind of defend yujiro in the [redacted] anime ep 4 nonsense and pointless scandal scene but that’s about it��#give aizo more chances to play the hero for his cute bf!!!!! the princess carry wasn’t enough!!!!#though. ngl it’s kinda funny how aizo’s always portrayed as the husband and yujiro the wife in their r/s (see: meoto)#but yujiro is always the one fighting for aizo’s honour. l&k novel (i think; still havent read it). lxl movie. chizu hallway scene (kind of)#and even in honeypre he got aizo the werewolf costume (instead of the pumpkin). he was the one who gave aizo a gift on white day (like a bf)#he even turned aizo into a worried wife when he (the bumbling husband) wandered out till late in kyoto to look for a *phone strap*#hm. well. im not sure what the point im trying to make is other than the fact that lxl are idiots for each other ig#they may be really really stupid but they love(?) and support each other (in a sense)… two menaces in a pod.#they should just get married (again)#though speaking of lxl marriage remember when that music magazine spread misinfo about how meoto was set in the sengoku era#and everyone believed it? the mv sure shocked everyone in more ways than one lmaooooooo#lxl twt was on fire that day. ‘horns??? a fantasy setting????? what happened to the sengoku era?????’ it was so funny you h a d to be there#but. hm. we’ve had quite a lxl content drought… disregarding the [redacted] mv they havent been seen in 4 months#throwing out a guess that they’ll get a new song for a winter comiket cd or sth. idk#sure hope that lxl do not get a new song or mv before kimikawaii release though bc that’d be unfairrrrrrrrr

Hello! This is really random I'm sorry. In your recent comic with the toy store shopkeeps, one of them is a bird! Inquiring bird nerds want to know, are they based on a specific species? My first thought was Canada jay but the white outer tail feathers don't match perfectly, and my boyfriend guessed they were some kind of tit! Very curious and would love to hear if you had a specific species in mind for the birdy when designing. :]
I DID! I'm pleased you asked.
Canada Jay's a great guess based on the markings, but he was indeed based on a kind of tit. A Long-Tailed Tit, to be exact!
I knew I wanted to pick a round-shaped bird with this kind of head marking (to evoke male pattern baldness haha), and just looked at different species of birds that live in colder environments until I found one I liked the look of. Not the most precise resemblance (I still need practice drawing birds), but I'm happy that I captured the look well enough that his tit-ness was recognizable.
#i don't usually get this specific with species for my main characters#because then i'm more focused on trying to capture how they look and feel in their original human design in a furry form#and making their design relatively easy for me to draw repeatedly and expressively#and the resemblance to a real life animal isn't that important to me in comparison to those things#but with random background characters where there's no original design to go off of i try to do more specific species just for fun#since they don't need to be as expressive or uniquely featured#but anyway i'm trying to do more birds since i think they're cool but they're definitely harder to capture than mammals#i think i need to work on the way their heads are proportioned - i have the impulse to just shove the beak where the nose goes on a human#and that just looks awkward because the beak is also their mouth#also don't even get me started on whether to do wing hands or not. obviously i went with the simpler option of 'scaly hands'#but i don't know if that's the RIGHT option (esp since chocodile does wing hands for amaranthine birds)#ANYWAY RAMBLE RAMBLE RAMBLE i appreciate the ask - thank you bird nerds!#text

How’s Fields of Mistria? You mentioning it was the second time I heard of it, the first time being in passing, so I’m not too knowledgeable about the game.

Fields of Mistria is SUPER fun, since there's not much to do in it after you've completed the first year right now, I've dedicated myself to breeding and collecting all the seasonal variants of horses so I can name them after the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!
I also named all my barns after metamorphised lovers in greek myth because I have exactly one thought running through my head at any given point in time (Currently there's Crocus Coop where I keep my (gorgeous wonderful lovely adorable ouugh I LOVE THEMMM!!) blue chickens
Cypress Barn where I keep my wonderful cows (who have been with me the longest and whom I cherish immensely! I'm not sure if Autumn cows are possible but I'm definitely aiming for a barn of all red and autumnal cows for obvious reasons)
Minthe Barn where I keep all of my other large animals like sheep, alpacas and my very first beloved Chiron (black and white) and Iris (brown with spots) (the foal is Rigel) 🥺
And Hyacinthus Barn where I have a collection of small animals like rabbits, capybaras and my PRIZED DUCKS LEDA (the pretty blue and green duckie) AND CYCNUS (the pure white duck meant to mimic a swan!!) Even though it's technically a coop, I mistakenly labelled it a barn when I was inputting the name and I never changed it LOL
My farm is also named after THE metamorphosized lover, Daphne herself, so it's called Laurel Farm
And I'm planning for my Seasonal Horse barn to be named after the poplar since I quite like Leuke's story and I think she's fitting of housing the horses that will be the steeds of War, Pestilence, Conquest and Famine :)
Bonus: My house is still small and eclectically decorated, but keeping in theme with my farm, I do hope to go for a flower/garden theme

one month off uni LET'S GO!!
#first i want to complete all my notes#make detailed plans and outlines for my original pieces and work on/expand them based on my formative feedback#then i want to get a head start on any reading before the spring term#some personal goals are:#to have planned a few more chapters and arcs for my main fic as of now – and then get to writing plenty of chapters in advance#to have finished the zordon era of power rangers and then the later seasons from saban – i'm esp excited for time force and wild force#start planning and writing my contribution for the red queen valentines gift exchange (and *possibly* contribute to mareven week)#binge watching the twilight movies with my sisters because they are so funny idc idc#start watching the karate kid/cobra kai universe with my sisters#finally watch the fruits basket anime which my bestie has been recommending forever#meet up with said bestie after ages of not seeing her!#go with another bestie so we can finally dye our hair (here's to hoping we find a nice hijabi friendly salon ayee)#keep all my fasts bc they've been accumulating#experiment with my baking – i want to try my hand at an angel cake and strawberry shortcake 🍰#make lasagane soup again at least once#and go out to the cinema maybe since i've still yet to watch wicked – and i have a green gingham dress i think would be really nice to wear#I'M SO EXCITED Y'ALL DON'T KNOW#here's to being productive (Insh'A'Allah)#even if most of the things on my list are fun stuff haha#my post#thoughts

when i see people going around complaining about the media they consume 9 times out of 10 i’m thinking “please please get into more independently produced work” esp when it’s things like mass media trends or corporate interests or things that seem like they’re made for sanitized mainstream interests like yes those are all annoying but yk what has less of those… yk what has the marginalized focus and the earnestness and the experimentation that you say you want… that’s right. it’s art made by random nobodies

like i wouldnt mind like. Not having new linear games post 5 its judt that sims 4 wasnt even supposed to Be The Sims 4 it was a last minute pivot and the base code is so outdated and was broken On launch so like. i just wish we could have the final actual sims game be like. one that was always intented to be a major sims release AND be intended to be so long term . yk

Ooh major graphical updates whatever if sims 5 was announced and they looked photorealizstic id hurl i wouldnt play#it#my ideal would ig be sims 4 with a touch more realism style wise. if this makes sense#like its a bittt too cartoony for me but i like the like. it's embarassing as hell, but sometimes i wish could discuss a certain anime i rewatched a few months ago with others to both bitch about the terrible parts and gush about the good parts
#kind of the epitome of 'i'm obsessed with this. i don't recommend it even slightly' for me#unless you can put up with anime bullshit#and while it isn't extremely high on that scale#there was enough wrt gender roles that left me groaning esp since it takes place 200 years in the future#otoh some of the characters were pretty interesting#and the relationship between a trans girl and her boyfriend towards the end of the series was sweet for the most part imo
