“ BODY IN THE ABYSS…
★ It’s about time I formally introduce myself. Hi hi, you can refer to me as Erise or Eri. Bisexual with a preference for women and greyromantic.
★ I’m a cis woman but I don’t care about the usage of other pronouns that are not she/her, in fact I tend to prefer masculine titles in the context that pronouns are not used.
★ Soft masc? No idea, I look and dress like both genders. Doesn’t help the fact I have a resting bitch face.
★ Writer, graphic designer, editor, beginner programmer, artist, accidental DJ (It’s a long story) used to do 3D modelling but became busy and haven’t picked it back up since like 2020-2021? Occasional bodyguard and butler for my close friends. There’s probably more but those are all that came to mind.
★ Procrastinate a lot.
★ I have bad vision, mildly dyslexic, can’t remember shit, and worse of all I do not fucking know my directions. English is not my native tongue. So sorry if there are any grammatical errors </3
★ Have social anxiety although I have been improving on it. Literally a professional yapper, just approach me first, I can continue a conversation with almost ease. Although I prefer listening to other people as it entertains and amuse me greatly to hear about other people thoughts.
★ Personally, I relate most to characters like Acheron, Aventurine, Jingyuan, Kaveh, Kim Dokja, Han Sooyoung, and more. Heavy on Acheron, it’s like we share blood [ and taste in women. ]
★ I play HSR, Infinity Nikki, Stardew valley, Mobile legend [ MLBB ], Minecraft, WUWA, ZZZ, used to play Reverse 1999, Skyrim, Batman: Arkham City [ Huge fan hehe ], some of the Hitman series, and Genshin [ quitted during Sumeru release due to being burnt out from the game. ] etc…
★ I love Gold, Red, Purple, and Black & white. [ This also often reflect how most of my fav embody those colors lmao ]
★ I FUCKING ADORE AND LOVE KAFKA SO MUCH THAT’S MY SOULMATE THAT’S MY BABY. BRING MY WIFE BACK FROM THE BASEMENT AND MAKE HSR GREATER AGAIN.
★ Anyway, below are the list of characters I adore so much.

Alan Rickman, David Thewlis, Gary Oldman and all those are iconic in their roles in Harry Potter, but I’ll always be a bit sad about that casting, because having that ‘Marauders era’ cast be age appropriate would’ve just been so much better for the story.
Sirius wasn’t this old man who spent 12 years in Azkaban, no he got locked up at 21. He spent almost third of his life in a cell. He wasn’t this wise father figure to Harry, he was a reckless thirty-something who never really got the chance to mature past 21.
Remus was an exhausted, bone deep tired man carrying both physical and mental scars from the suffering he went through. Because he’s a werewolf, because of the war, because he lost all of his friends. And he’s only 33 when first introduced.
And Snape. Snape wasn’t an old bitter man who just hated everyone and enjoyed being antagonistic. He was 31 in Harry’s first year. He began to work for Voldemort as a teen, and as a double agent at 20. He’s a thirty-something bitter man, who never got to really live or make real connections. From Harry’s perspective he’s scary and intimidating, but really he’s just kinda…sad and pathetic. And then especially that scene where Snape is begging Dumbledore to help save Lily, and promising anything in return. (Because apparently Dumbledore needs something in return…for saving people.) He’s twenty. Barely out of his teens. Rickman was good in that scene, but having someone who actually looks twenty, would better show how scared, young, guilty and just desperate he was. That might not put Dumbledore in such a good light, though.
And then, the characters I think would’ve been the most important to cast age appropriately. And most people probably already agree and know who I’m talking about. James and Lily. They were 21 when they died. When Harry sees them in the mirror of Erised, they’re 10 years older than him. That’s the age difference Ron has with Bill. In that scene I might understand somewhat them being in their thirties, because that’s what Harry wants. He wants his life with his parents, he wants to have been raised by them. Though, I don’t know if the mirror could know what they might’ve looked like in their thirties, since they didn’t live that long. But then, in the cemetery when Voldemort’s wand spits the last spells cast, we see Lily and James as they were. 21. They’re telling their son to hold on just a moment longer. And they are 7 years older than him. In Deathly Hallows, Harry sees Voldemort kill them. They’re not this happy couple who’s got to love each other for a long time, only to have that happiness torn from them, no they started at Hogwarts ten years ago. They’re 21, and they’ve barely tasted that happiness. At the end of the book Harry talks to his parents. They comfort him and promise to stay with him, as he goes to die. Harry’s seventeen. James and Lily are four years older than him.
It wouldn’t have felt as nice. Harry being comforted by someone who looks almost his age. But it wasn’t nice. It was pretty tragic. Casting people who look 21, would’ve really made it land on the audience. It was a tragedy. They were barely adults.

We'll heal together: Chapter One
Little Talks Of Monsters and Men
Harry Potter x Reader (Platonic) / Remus Lupin x Reader (Ambiguous)
Masterlist
Summary: Harry Potter sees a familiar face on the train, from the mirror of Erised. Remus Lupin and harry talk about his mother, along with {Y/N} {L/N}. (This is a lot of rehashed scenes. Next chapter will be from {Y/N}'s Perspective.}
Cw: Use of {Y/N}, Dementor attack, grief, sassy Harry, depressed bish Remus (please reach out if I missed something}
Wc- 2180
“I didn't mean to blow her up! It just sort of... happened!”
Harry once again found himself explaining the same things he explained moments ago. It wasn't that he felt guilty... not exactly, he probably should, all things considered. But that old hag's shrill voice echoed in his head, and he could only find himself having a bit of pride at the moment.
“Brilliant.” Ron snickered, the smile in his voice very prominent. Harry could almost see it with his back to the red head.
“Honestly Ron, that's not funny. Harry was lucky not to be expelled!” Hermione huffed out as she shoved her way past him to catch up with Harry’s long strides.
“I think I was lucky not to be arrested.” Harry mumbled, slowly smirking to himself. Doing his best to avoid Hermione’s judgmental eyes.
“I still think it was brilliant.” Ron chuckled as he followed them down the hall. Harry paused as he noticed the only half empty room, with a sleeping figure. His eyes narrowed, why did his presence seem so familiar? It reminded him of that night, walking back to the dorms between flickering moonlight. That comfort he felt before, returning as he once again, saw the moon through the glass windows.
“Come on, everywhere else is full.” Hermione muttered after a moment of pause, watching Harry's confused and curious expression.
“Who's that, then?” Ron mumbled as he sat down on the seat closest to the window.
“Professor R. J. Lupin.” Hermione’s self-satisfied tone filled the now packed compartment. Harry pursed his lips. Never heard that name before.
Still, he found himself sitting beside the sleeping figure, across from Hermione, as both her and Ron’s voices faded out. Harry found himself staring at the lump of clothes that covered the professor.
“Do you know everything? How is it that she knows everything?”
“It's on his suitcase, Ronald.” She snarked and he muttered a soft ‘oh.’
Harry snapped out of his daze and leaned back, frowning at the sleeping figure. “Do you think he's really asleep?”
“Yes, I do think so.” She remarked calmly. “Why?”
“I have something to tell you.” Harry declared and slid the door closed.
~~
“Let me get this straight. Sirius Black escaped from Azkaban, to come after you?” Ron asked in a scandalized tone, eyebrows raised as he struggled to keep Scrabbers calm in his hand. Tutting before he slipped him away into his damaged cage and held his hand over the broken door he escaped from before.
“Yeah.” Harry mumbled.
“But they'll catch Black, won't they? I mean, everyone is looking for him.” Hermione declared, looking between the two with reassurance and determination in her eyes.
“Sure- Of course, but no one's ever broken out of Azkaban before and he's a raving, murderous lunatic…” Ron mumbled out in a bitter tone and Harry gave him a tight-lipped smile.
“Thanks, Ron.”
Then there was a sharp piercing sound of metal grinding against the iron of the train tracks, the engine falling to nothing but a murmur from within the box.
“Why are we stopping? We aren't there yet.” Hermoine mumbled and watched as Harry stood and peaked out the door.
“What's happened?” Ron asked as the train rocked and Harry was flown back to his seat by the sheer force.
“Dunno... Maybe we've broken down?”
The lights cut out.
There was a choking silence, so low and painful Harry’s ears almost began to ring. Then the cold came, voices could be heard outside the train. They were haunting and drawn like they were in too much anguish to utter a full statement, making Harry swallowed thick, trying to clear the back of his throat.
“ ... die. One by one. Until all is... “
“I think someone is coming aboard.” Ron croaked in dread. The entire train wobbled once more, the door swinging open before slamming shut. The haunting voices now fill the halls. They were like whispers, but somehow right against Harry’s ear.
There was a moment of peace before Ron’s breath hitched as he watched black tendrils float their way down the hall in front of their door. Like a floating cloth that tangled in the very air, thick with weary and terrified silence between the three.
Ron began to bunch himself onto the bench, giving a high-pitched inhale as the creature waved its hand in a gesture like motion, willing the door of their compartment to open without once touching it.
Everyone was silent, and Harry felt his hands begin to clam up. He shuffled back into his seat as best he could, as the creature lurked into the closed space, eyes locked on the raven-haired boy. Crookshanks hissed, and Scabbers began to freak out within the cage.
The creature suddenly leaned closer to Harry, and he felt his breath hitch, his entire body lurching forward in a silent but painful gasp. Harry grew dizzy, body growing weaker and his eyes slowly rolling back.
As if on cue, summoned awake by Harry’s loss of control, the sleeping professor snapped to his feet. Waving his wand as a blip of bright blue light filled the entire train car, just as Harry slipped under and fell to the floor.
~~
“Harry? Harry, please wake up.” Hermione’s pleading voice came, slowly rubbing his arm. His thoughts were split, As the shrill and horrible tone of screams that filled his dreams slipped into Hermione’s soft and caring voice. It brought him comfort.
Harry’s eyes snapped open wide, slowly he huffed and sat up, looking over at Hermione as she handed him his glasses, muttering a thanks as he slipped them back on his face.
“Here, eat this. It’ll help.” The professor called out to him in a stern but lively tone, holding out an unwrapped bar of chocolate. Harry didn't quite meet his eyes.
“What was that?” He mumbled out and ate the candy the stranger provided.
“A Dementor. One of the guards of Azkaban. It's gone now. It was searching the train.” He remarked before Hermione spoke up.
“For Sirius Black.” She rubbed his shoulder again and encouraged Harry as he munched the treat in his hand. Muggle candy, he would die on the hill of it being the best.
“I need to have a word with the driver. Excuse me.” Lupin mumbled and stood, Harry finally looking up at him to watch him go. When Lupin turned to nod to the trio, closing the door before him and wandering off, Harry’s face filled with shock and his jaw went slack.
“What is it, Harry? Don't tell us you've gone mad.” Ron snarked and Harry snapped out of it, looking over to Ron and Hermione, still stunned. “I... I've seen him before.”
“What? You have?” Ron pried.
“The Mirror of Erised.” Harry breathed and tried to shoot to his feet. That night, he saw his face. That man stood beside his father and who he now knew to be Sirius Black, along with another woman and the rest of his immediate family. “I saw him, he was with my parents. And... and Sirius!”
He quickly stumbled before he could even get to his feet, Hermione quickly getting him up right to sit. “You stay put; I know you're curious, but you were attacked by a dementor! You’ll see him at Hogwarts, I'm sure of it.” She tutted. Harry groaned and covered his face. He was too weak to argue.
“Well, what a fun first day.” Ron piped up with a nervous smile, eating at Harry's abandoned chocolate from his perch on the window ciel. Hermione rolled her eyes, and Ron ran his lip over his now brown stained face. “What?”
~~~
The next time Harry saw Professor Lupin outside of the classroom was when he faced his Boggart, once again, he saved him as he did on the train. He had been moping about, not allowed to go to the Hogsmeade trip, he spent his time wandering the grounds. Eventually, he ran into Lupin once more. Without a word to each other they fell into an easy and silent step beside each other, hands in their pockets as they made it out of the courtyard and onto the precarious bridge.
“Professor Lupin, can I ask you something?”
“Is this about me stopping that Boggart? I assure you; it was not out of a lack of belief in your ability to stop it. I assumed the worst, that it would take the form of Lord Voldamort.”
Harry nodded faintly before he thinned his lips in thought. “I thought of him first, yes, but... Then I remembered that night on the train.” He mumbled and Lupin nodded thoughtfully. He was so much like James, he thought, it looked like when the unruly kid he once knew was being scolded by Professor McGonagall. It brought a small sad smile to his face.
“That's quite impressive.”
Harry scoffed and gave him a weary smile. “Is it?”
“I'm being truthful.” Lupin patted him on the shoulder before leaning forward on the railing of the bridge, overlooking the lake. “It takes bravery, for one's fear to be fear itself. It’s wise of you.”
Harry slowly nodded and looked off into the distance as well, Lupin peeking at him for a moment before Harry spoke up once more. “Before I fainted... I heard something. A woman. Screaming.”
“Dementors force us to relive the worst memories of our lives. Our pain becomes their power.”
Harry took a deep breath before he spoke his next words, he wanted to give Lupin the chance to speak on his relationship with his parents first, before he pried. He wanted, no, needed to know. But he wanted to give him the choice to come forward first. “... i think it was my mother.” He admitted and Lupin took a deep breath before he sighed.
“The first time I saw you, Harry, I recognized you immediately.” He spoke carefully. “Not by your scar,” He leaned in. “As ever famous it may be.” He mused a bit of a playful tone, giving Harry a small smile and he nodded, encouraging Lupin to continue.
“It was your eyes.” He spoke next in a much more Solemn tone. “They were your mother, Lily’s.” He spoke carefully as to not provoke the frog that tore apart the lower base of his throat, begging for a sob of relief. “I knew her. I knew her better than I knew myself most days.”
He allowed himself to reminisce, thinking back on the days he spent at school, walking down the halls with Lily and her. He had known and allowed himself love, the brotherly kind that fills you with adrenaline and makes you make stupid decisions. The kind that would get you into trouble every other term for the risk of thrill with every new prank idea presented to them. He knew wild, fun, free love.
It wasn't until he met Lily Evans and {Y/n} {L/N} when he learned what gentle and quiet love could do. How powerful silence could be, how much a simple touch could mean, and how the looks shared between flickering eyes could be filled with so much more care and empathy than he ever knew. From silent study sessions to moments comforting him after a full moon, the two girls made him feel peace he had never known he could have, something he never thought he deserved. Knowing their love was the worst possible outcome, losing their love was the second. “Your mother. Your mother and... An old friend of mine, they were there for me when no one else was. I have never known kindness and power, until I met your mother. I had never known forgiveness and wisdom until she introduced me to {Y/n}.”
“{Y/N}?” Harry mumbled out the new name and looked to the professor as Lupin nodded. “Lily Evans and {Y/N} {L/N}. They were inseverable, if you spoke of one of them. the other wasn't far behind. Even their names chased each other through the halls. Much like me and... well, your father. There was no Lily Evans without {Y/N} {L/N}, and the reverse was also true. They had a way about them, a way and a sight that saw something no one else could see in someone. They saw wonders and lights in the darkest rooms, they gave forgiveness and compassion to those who deserve nothing close to it. And they saw a wizard in a monster.” Lupin muttered the last part and hung his head before he looked up at Harry’s wide curious eyes.
“A monster, sir?”
“A story for another time.” Lupin mused and sat up straighter. “Your father on the other hand, now he had a talent for trouble.” He nudged Harry before he put his hands back into his pockets. “Rumor has it he's passed it onto you.”
Harry couldn't help the small smile that grew onto his face at the remark. So, his father was a lot like him, it seemed. That made him feel warm.
He wished he could talk to Lupin all day.
Know what always bothers me in crimes of Grindelwald? That in every scene where Albus sees him he's not smiling. The memory of making the bloodpact? He looks evillll like he's manipulated an idiot into doing what he wanted- and in the mirror of erised he again is so serious it's like he's judging him-
They should've made him smile in those scenes- it's painfully obvious that's what he was meant to do. The memory is from when they loved each other; the mirror shows your biggest desire trying to trap you.
He 👏 should 👏 have 👏 smiled 👏
If you ever get out of ideas for what to draw i think it'd be a cute idea to have those redrawn-
Thanks for your brilliant idea❤️I agree with you—Or, to put it another way, how could they possibly not be in love? And when someone in love gazes at their beloved, how could they not be moved?
I’ve never believed that Gellert’s feelings for Albus were purely manipulative or exploitative. Albus, as blinded by love as he might be, wouldn’t be deceived by insincerity. It’s precisely because Gellert’s love was genuine—though tainted by ambition and a desire for control—that they resonated and melded at the soul level, allowing Albus to open up to him and give his all.
This is also why the tragic events of the summer of 1899 have such a devastating effect on Albus. Besides the remorse and guilt he felt for Ariana, it also stemmed from the genuine love he shared with Gellert. The blade of love is sharp and particularly lethal because of this genuine affection.
Love is real, manipulation is real, and hurt is real. Love has its tender and sincere side, but it also has a harsh and cruel aspect.
“Oh, to be young and to feel love’s keen sting,” Albus remarked many years later. The blade of love is indeed forged by love itself.
So yes, the movie’s portrayal of Gellert’s expression in the Mirror of Erised might not convey this depth of emotion, which I personally find regrettable.
But looking at it from another perspective, doesn’t the Mirror of Erised reflect Albus’s deepest desires?
His longing for Gellert never ceases, nor can he truly let go of everything Gellert once represented—dreams, ambition, and lost youth. But has he ever secretly hoped that Gellert never truly loved him? Like he’s desperately convincing himself that Gellert only ever used and manipulated him, and that he’s an extremely cold person incapable of love. This way, Albus can hate him unreservedly, without the torment of being torn between love, regret, and conscience.
Hating a despicable enemy is always easier than confronting a lover and confidant.
“There are all kinds of courage," as Albus said it many years later, "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.”
Perhaps this desperate wish is why a version of Gellert, different from reality and memories, appears in the mirror.
But I believe, throughout his long life and even after death, Albus ultimately chooses not to deny this love. It manifests as the tear that drops onto the tip of his nose at King’s Cross station—a tear shed for the man who defended his grave with his life.
Of course, this is all my subjective interpretation. Oh, so many conflicting thoughts and feelings aroused by this ship—!😭
Inspired by the old amortentia ask, if each LI looked into the mirror of erised, what would they see?
Oh so you’re looking for pain, I see you anon 👀
Abel: his family, with his parents and his grandmother still alive, as well MC and his friends. If he’s your LI, then him and MC together and happy as well. At the end of the day Abel is a very simple man, and his heart’s deepest desire is his family, old and new, whole and together
Amalia: She would see herself winning an unwinnable court case, and in so doing turning around the lives of her clients who she helped. And of course, you would be there with her, cheering her on as she’s finally achieved her life's greatest dreams.
Jocelyn: She’s a simple person. She’d see herself with her closest friends and loved ones at the local Westchester Diner. She’s eating her favorite diner burrito, and everyone she ever lost is alive, happy, and good, and Westchester is safe.
Lincoln: His mama 🥺 and if you're his LI, then it would be the three of you together. Maybe celebrating Christmas together in the Philippines and eating his favorite foods.
Matthias: If he's romancing MC, it would be the two of them together in power. And Lincoln forgave him and sees things from Matthias's perspective, they have the relationship Matthias always wished they had. If he's not romancing MC, then it would be him, Silvia, and Lincoln being a happy, immortal family together.
Hello Hello and the Happiest of Fridays!
I'm thrilled to have @shealwaysreads in the library today! I've followed her for a long time and am always delighted by her posts on my dash. She has excellent taste, and has picked an incredible fic to share with us. Without further ado, I'll let Bella take over!
I did a slightly ridiculous gasp and wiggle when the lovely @thedrarrylibrarian reached out to ask me to share a fic rec for their brilliant Happy Hour, and was beyond delighted to be chosen to open the new year with a story I loved.
I haven’t actually been able to read much fic over the last year, except for short pieces, which has really crystallised for me how much I really do love short fic. The skill, choices, focus, and subtle characterisation that’s so necessary for a fantastic short read is intense, and I find myself endlessly full of admiration for writers who can take on that challenge and create something beautiful.
Contretemps by @moonflower-rose is one of those brilliant stories—written for @hd-erised it was the last fic I read in 2022 and it was everything I hoped for, so I thought it would be the perfect story to share with everyone to kick off 2023!
Contretemps by @moonflower-rose (8,488 words, rated T)
Draco Malfoy has been living like a model citizen. If only he could convince Potter.
In less than 10k Rosie manages to create such a full feeling world, with brilliant cameos from Ron and Hermione, brief but sharp and defined OCs, and a Pansy I adore beyond measure (a running theme in her work, do check out her back-catalogue and ready yourself for falling in love), along with a delicious Harry—dimpled, earnest, and transparent (or so Draco thinks), and a Draco pov that is positively sparkling (if slightly misguided).
Just the opening two lines shows you so much about Rosie’s deft world building, and fantastic sense of humour. By the third paragraph (full of brilliant characterisation) you are completely in-world, immersed in the tale she’s woven, and ready to be delighted.
I sat and highlighted a ream of quotes from the fic, and then realised I was essentially sharing every single bit of it. So I’ve given myself a stern talking to and settled on just one, which made me laugh out loud and captures perfectly Draco and Harry’s dynamic at the beginning of the fic:
“Draco imagined wrapping his fingers around Potter’s throat. Sometimes he even imagined strangling him. Sometimes.”
Draco’s perspective, and Harry’s characterisation, make the misunderstanding and miscommunication work so perfectly, so believably, that along with the urge to give them both a gentle slap I also found myself grinning away while they fumbled.
Rosie’s fics always leave me bone-deep satisfied. She has that innate talent and well-honed skill to spin a world full of characters that feel so real you could reach out and hug them, and to guide you gently along emotional journeys to a resolution that leaves your heart warm and light every time. Short, or long, her stories are rich and generous, full of subtly crafted details that build a world (Contretemps is full of these—Hermione’s recent laws, Draco’s pirating choices, the queue outside Harry’s office) and even moments of sadness are leavened and balanced by the absolute gift she has for humour in her writing.
Every fic of hers has made my day better, has lifted me up and set me on my way with a smile.
A special note: Rosie always undoes me with her food descriptions, and by undo I mean ‘wake up my appetite but ONLY AND SPECIFICALLY for what she has just laid down in words before me. I have once and will likely again actually gone and bought what she’s written about simply to sate my fic-induced hunger. If you’re anything like me you will find yourself reaching for a snack about halfway through this fic, and find yourself desperately wanting meringues and apricots.
I’ll stop myself there, before I spend the next thousand words singing the praises of this fic and @moonflower-rose’s writing, and hope that you all click the link and read Contretemps. I guarantee it will make your day if you do!
Thank you so much to @thedrarrylibrarian for inviting me to be a part of Happy Hour, and for all of your brilliant recs. As a Library Person™ it just brings me so much joy to be part of this project and the gift it is to the Drarry fandom.
Happy 2023 everyone, I hope it’s a beautiful one, filled with fic and art! ❤️
Thank you once more, to @shealwaysreads for joining us today! Be sure to check out her own writing on her AO3!
❤️ As always, if you find a fic you enjoy, please remember to leave the author a kudos or a comment! ❤️
Lots of Love and Happy Reading!
à bon chat was so good, i'm obsessed with its draco. i'm always horrible at guessing erised writers, but i remember reading yours and thinking this got that special oknowkiss flavor.
omg thank you!!!! this is very very kind!! I love art thief Draco a lot. I really wanted to create a version of him who is very suave and competent, but who is also (when viewed from an outside perspective) a bit ridiculous lol. Who knows, maybe we will see more of him someday!
anon, now you’ve got me wondering what my special flavor tastes like… I’m imagining a lot of citrus, and extra sharp cheese, and a very hot cup of milky black tea 🤩
Hehehe hey!! For the artists asks how about 5, 19 and 27? :)
winnow!! ty for picking some questions!! 🥰
5. i think i post about 95% of my art online? like if i like a drawing enough to go past the very initial sketch phase, then usually i finish it, and i am so desperate for validation 24/7 that it always ends up online lol. the only stuff i keep for myself really is like low-effort pencil sketches (rare) or art that i get frustrated with bc i cant make it come out how i want it to :( and warmups? mostly bc those are super unpolished and i dont usually get any interaction from them, so its more painful to post them than to keep them private lol
19. i am not really a fan of drawing inanimate objects tbh ;w; i struggle with straight lines and perspective a lot so people and animals are my favorite to draw! but i do enjoy drawing clothes a lot, especially shoes!
27. i am a 100% self-taught artist and had no idea warming up was even a thing until my 20s, so i usually don't warm up. sometimes if i start drawing and everything is coming out wrong, or i get out of the vibe and am struggling to visualize perspective or proportions or something, i will do a "warmup" to try and loosen up and get back into the Zone. my favorite things to do for those are super loose, messy portraits or figure drawings where i just let my eyes unfocus and let my hand sort of do its own thing, not caring too much about being clean or having a goal or staying on my own style. my most recent example of what i mean is these portraits that i drew when i couldnt get my brain to cooperate with my erised piece (not the frame, just the people):
Don: Hogwarts AU
Don is a Half-Blood wizard that was born on the 4th of July 1989 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 2000, being sorted into Gryffindor House.
He has a Rowan wand with a Unicorn Hair core.
His Patronus is a German Shephard.
His favorite subject was Defense Against the Dark Arts and his least favorite subject is Astronomy.
He was a Chaser from the Gryffindor Quidditch team from his fifth year onward.
Don is perceived by others to be a cheerful, energetic, happy, and social boy who is always friendly towards everyone. In contrast to Gilda, he is very careless, rowdy, less inclined and talkative. Like the rest of his siblings, he enjoys playing games such as gobstone and quidditch. Don is also an optimist and always tries to look on the bright side of things. He seemed to hold a rivalry with Norman, where he displayed acts of pettiness and childishness. However, he also seems to be very intelligent and gets good test scores. Don is a prankster and enjoys telling jokes and goofing off. He also enjoys performing card tricks. Due to his playful and fun-loving personality, many of the younger kids often beg Don to play with them.
Similarly to Emma, Don holds a great deal of love towards his siblings and is fiercely protective and cares deeply about them. For example, he swore he would rescue Conny and the rest of the orphans when he was told they were sold off. He also wants to be seen as a person whom his siblings can rely on, so he is always determined to help out and hates keeping secrets within the family.
Don is noted to be impulsive and driven by his feelings, which Norman comments on before the escape. Some examples are getting himself and Gilda in trouble by accessing their way to Isabella's room, and using violence against Ray and Norman in a fit of anger for hiding the harsh reality. In reality, Don was upset with himself for not being able to protect the ones close to him. After this, Don expresses his desire to become stronger so he can be there for his siblings, which culminates in his decision to whole-heartedly help Emma, Norman, and Ray. Throughout his experiences, Don gains more self-confidence and boosts his skills.
Ever since the escape from Grace Field, Don has been maturing and learned to think from everyone perspective. He was the only one who was not against Emma's plan to search for "the Mirror of Erised". Even though he personally didn't agree with her, Don understands where she was coming from. This shows that Don has become a lot more understanding and supportive.
Don also seems to have picked up traits from Emma's leadership, such as rather than him causing needless danger and conflict, he actively tries to avert it. Despite despising vampires, Don is against Norman's plan of exterminating them, being able to view situations from different perspectives.
A Very Bad Good Girl x Rewind
Cinema is said to be a reflection of one's nation and its people. I say, any decent film is also a Mirror of Erised that's either too crass or too classy.
One of the reasons why I took up communication research is to deepen my roots on how frameworks are engineered and optimized to fit my current stance. It's not about the shiny badge of UPDi, it's just me being perpetually curious.
One of the things I did over the long holiday break is to randomly check content as I've been too out of touch. Of course, I'd definitely choose Ooku: The Inner Chambers over A Very Good Girl, however, I'd need to immerse myself in local mainstream films, because, one of my very few GCs is poppin' rainbows about an upcoming debrief. Kidding aside, it's my attempt to immerse in the perspective of my "audience of one" when it comes to work. Yes, work. More so, films are very easy access passes to what the pulse of the nation is, even when I'd have to yawn and laugh dryly so many times while at it.
In line with new stories for 2024, let me share my thoughts and feelings about A Very Good Girl. Alert: Spoilers incoming; however, I'd list down the stuff I gathered instead of lambasting and praising it straight up.
1 The male gaze is currently severely butchered but it's still a butch or femme butch scene, after all. Sorry, not sorry. I'd like to see an unapologetic ultra femme era of films in my lifetime, to be honest.
2 Women in films are on their way to find their safe space without sacrificing a safe space for all. Being immersed in feminism and postmodernism, the truth is that you can't advocate for safe space if you aim to silence the males in any social setting. As a reformed radical feminist, I'm still learning this ground. It's not easy, but it's for the greater good.
3 This film talks about how this country is still ruled by familial ties and feudalism.
4 Production and tiny details make or break the story even when your audience of one is but a passerby or a stranger.
5 While the film tackles the power struggle of females, the subtext I'm getting is that it's a class act involving the Philippines and her people. LOL. Money, fame and power are means to make you appear convenient; but, in reality, everything has a floor and a ceiling you can't escape nor evade. The poor and middle class clamor for these three pillars, however, it's all about being good even when you and the rest of universe make really, really bad choices each time.
Side Note: Sana lang, 'wag masyadong antagonized ang rich and poor masyado. 'Di naman kasalanan ng mahirap na mahirap sila in the same manner na 'di naman kasalanan ng mayaman na mayaman sila, right? And I think that this film has made a decent commentary about this topic.
6 As the media is silenced, harassed and policed with literal and figurative machineries, films are more experimental and more vibrant and dull, all together.
7 Scripts and deliveries do not exactly co-exist; but, I'd like to believe that we're probably off to better heights.
8 The agenda setting and unmuting the muted groups may be lost in translation because the dresses and the accessories seem to take the center stage. I know this is an attempt to put forward a more presentable cake to be eaten by the dogs and the underdogs, however, there should always be context so that the audience masticates is better.
9 Research as Paulo Coelho shares in one of his books is super duper integral to any literary work. I also believe that this is what's lacking in most films in the Philippines. 10 After the credits roll, what matters most is the lesson that the audience of one accepts or rejects. Period. Now, the question is: How deep did the film really go?
11 Not all women are meant to be mothers. But any woman can be a mother, so as long as there is a child who's willing or unwilling to be mothered.
12 Being a child is not bound by age, folio or social class. Being a child may be an adult's most "adulting" thing to down.
13 At times, women take too much heat in any kitchen. Asking for help especially when she can't cook is the cross in which women crucify themselves. This bit hits home a little too much, but hey, that's the truth, the hard pill I am downing, currently.
14 This film seems to be an attempt to shed light on dramatic and tragic-comedic existentialism. OPAK. Ako lang naman 'to since bias ko 'yan e.
Is there such a thing as a signature Filipino film style? This is something that I've been searching for since my biases are European or Japanese films. It's actually tough to answer a yes, but saying no seems tougher. There are a good number of films like Sakada, Serbis, Cuchera, Ekstra, Pamilya Ordinaryo, Nerseri, Posas, Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros, Engkwentro, Moral, Anak, That Thing Called Tadhana and Muli that have a strong sense of what the Filipinos are made of. In the same manner, these films seem to remind me of foreign films at some level. I try my best not to compare, however, I guess that I'd have to be more forgiving in my next viewings.
More so, regional films are yet to be highlighted as I know so well that our culture beyond Manila is so rich, pure and worth the budget. As one of Anthony Bourdain's visits to PH says it, we are not even regional; we're archipelagic. I'd like to witness a Philippine cinema scene where there's a vibe of pride about the mundane. I'd like to move beyond fake resiliency, sex sells, more sex sells more even when the lighting and editing is really trashy. I'm hoping to see our own theater arts mold our film dreams, hopes, and fears.
---
I'd also like to share that dad watched Rewind and shared the whole story with me this morning. I told him that before he starts, I am on the verge of telling him to skip it the movie and his sharing, because it's gonna be a blood bath; however, this is me, letting him be.
Of course, he didn't bother checking the trailer and the reviews. And so, he gave a blow by blow account of this movie's story. In between bashing and laughing with him, he told me that he's been a very bad dad, all this time. He even enumerated the missed attendances because he was "too busy" with work that's actually manageable. He further confessed that he could have been more present in our lives when we were growing up instead of growling like a beast even at our slightest hiccups. He shared that he'd be more than willing to go back in time to make bawi for his misgivings. I flatly told him that he's not giving... giving up, now and until his forever ends, eventually.
It felt as though he's on his Walk of Shame era with a dog cone and butt naked as he goes around the UPDi Ikot and Toki route. But, I tried my best not to get too bored and tuned in. His sharing lasted for almost 45 minutes, I think.
I chuckled and told him several times that it's his first time to be a dad, a parent; so, naturally, things are always on beta test mode. He told me that if he could rewind our past, he could have chosen to give up his dear life for mom to live longer. He meant what he said. This broke my hypothalamus in the same manner that it gave me a piece of peace that I'm aiming at.
I joked him: Dad, 'di ka naman magso-sorry 'di ba? He said: Alam mo naman tatay mo, iiyak, pero 'di magso-sorry. Me: Sus. OK.
I breathed deeply and told him that everything happens for a reason and that I'd like him to be with me for a long while, perhaps, longer than my original ask. I'd like him to let go of the past and should we talk about the good, the bad, the pretty and the ugly, may those be parts of healthy kwentuhans and batuhans. I'm also sure that this is no longer about mother dragon's smirk alone. This time around, it's about me and him and my brother making it together and emerging better.
Ah, January 3, you're something weird, wonky and wonderful! Perhaps, one of the things I'd see in the Mirror of Erised is dad and I biking around Japan for two straight weeks. LOL. Huy, tigil mo na 'yan, back to regular programming ka na in a few hours. Let's go!
To hell with it, I've got another one.
In PS the stone is protected only by the teachers who Harry has in his first year. It makes no sense that there's no astronomy component, or arithmancy, or ancient runes (I would say muggle studies, history of magic, and divination as well except I can't imagine any of these subjects having consequential or challenging tests. Particularly history and divination, specifically because of who teaches them).
From the perspective of Dumbledore, a Headmaster and accomplished wizard, it doesn't track that he wouldn't have protections cast by teachers of subjects beyond first or second year students. And you can't even say that he only asked his most trusted staff because he asked Quirrel - in his first year of teaching DADA, and who Dumbledore was suspicious of. We see in Snape's memories at the end of DH that Dumbledore asked him to keep an eye on Quirrel. And we know that the protections weren't fully in place until after the Christmas holidays of the year PS is set in, because the Mirror of Erised wasn't moved until after Harry discovered it, which he did under his invisibility cloak, which he got for Christmas. So it can be assumed that the request to keep an eye on Quirrell was likely made before the mirror was put into place. So was it before or after Quirrell contributed to the stone's protection?
Which also begs the question, if the stone was removed from its Gringotts Vault on Aug. 1 when Hagrid went there with Harry, where was it for the next 6 months? Why weren't protections in place by then? As for Quirrell's protection, I'm curious about the logistics. Whose job was it to feed the troll? What guarantee was there that the troll would stay there and keep guard and not wander off into the rest of the castle? Wouldn't Dumbledore have told Quirrell to come up with a better, less upkeep-intensive trial?
question to the void: what inconsistency in the harry potter series irritates you the most?
Imagine IMAGINE in an alternate universe where Albus is the representative for Hogwarts and Gellert is the representative for Durmstrang in the Triwizard Tournament. They didn’t had good first impressions of each other but through their interactions in the games and other events they started to became close and familiar with each other’s ways of socializing and building friendship.
One day, Albus brought Gellert to the Room that we Require to show him something he have discovered when he accidentally discovered the room. It’s the Mirror of Erised.
“What is this magical object you say you discovered?” Gellert asks, confused but intrigued.
“It’s a mirror,” Albus answers simply. He pulls down the cloth that is covering and protecting it from dusts.
In front of them stands, beautifully and gorgeously, the mirror of erised. The mirror has instricate inscriptions on the it’s arch at the top. “Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi”. Gellert frowns at the peculiar and strange letters or sylabols Acrved, but after a few seconds his eyes widen at the realization.
“Whoa… Does—are the inscriptions written in a mirroed perspective?” He points and looks at Albus with those curios glittering eyes.
Albus nods then steps at the side for Gellert to take a step closer to decipher the insprition.
“I show not your face but your hearts desire,” he mumbles, eyes reading carefully the carvings. There’s a wave of pride in Albus’ chest that makes him smile, both shyly and lovestruck.
Gellert turns to him with an anticipation and giddy excitement.
Albus nods. “You got it right.” He lets Gellert sigh a happy smile before saying a teasing remark. “A whole minute excess from how long I deciphered it.”
He giggles at the frowny expression of Gellert gave him. This is their dynamic; playful competition. Nothing serious, no lose or win taken in the heart, what matters more is the time they spend together.
“How does it work though?” Once a new discovery is placed in front of Gellert, all questions of inquiery and curiosty will fall in the basket of his mind. “Is there a psell that needs to be casted or a potion or a charm?”
“No. None of those. The only thing that one should bring to activtae the mirros is one’s heart as the mirror will show the deepest and most desperate desire of one’s heart.”
He might’ve gotten too deep in explaining. There’s magic in this lore of the heart that can fascinate anyone, anyone, to dive deep.
“Can you show me?” Gellert’s soft tone can effortlessly make Albus melt or flustered. There’s just something about his voice.
“Erm…ah, all you have to do is stand in front of it then wait to see what the mirror will show you.”
While Albus explains, Gellert does.
Five seconds passed, their reflection is still on the mirror.
Half a minute, still the same.
A full minute came and nothing have changed in the mirror.
The two young wizards have their heads tilted, confused and awkwardly staring at themselves (and sending subtable obvious glances at each other) at the mirror.
“Albus, are you sure that we don’t have to say any spell or enchantment?”
“Ah…I’m not really sure because as far as have researched about the mirror, there’s no enchantment or spells or anything, just yourself.”
“Have you tried it personally before?”
“Yes. I saw my…my family being there with me on the podium when I received my trophy after winning the tournament.”
Gellert snickers, as he can feel Albus joking and at the same time trying to keep what he really saw from him.
Albus, on the other hand, is so confused and feeling embarrassed on the failed attempt to show Gellert a magical object of his discovery.
“Wait a sec,” he mumbles then stands in front of Gellert. There’s still no change on their reflection. It’s still him and Gellert. Gellert and him. The two of them.
“I…I don’t understand. They said that the mirror will show the deepest, most desperate desire of the heart…”
He trails as a spark of realization came to him. When his eyes met Gellert’s on the mirror it only then dawned on the two of them.
Flustered. Surprised. Speechless. Blushing. They could not form any word other than stuttered ones before the school bell rings, signaling that it’s supper time.
The two didn’t exchanged any words through their whole walk down to the main hall. Gellert strides to the table of Durmstrang, glancing over his shoulder to the direction of Albus. Albus walks towards the Gryffindor table and sits between Minerva and Elphias.
“What happened to you? You’re pinkish,” Minerva says.
Elphias chuckles. “Someone’s blushing.”
“I’m not blushing,” Albus quickly responds. “I was just running from the library.”
“Hm, so you went to the library with Gellert Grindelwald?” Torquil Travers asks, sitting across the three.
Albus cannot form any response (or excuse) to that other than a dismissive, “Coincedental.”
On the other side of the hall, at the table of Durmstrang, Gellert kept glancing on a particular table.
“Hey, who are you keeping an eye on there?” One his classmates asked, sitting across from him.
“Nothing. Nothing that you should concern yourself about.”
The guy sitting next to Gellert then mumbles, seems like you’re getting fond on someone sitting over there.”
Gellerts looks at him, seeing a genuine and harmless observation. They exchange understanding nods then diverting the topic while waiting for the ceremony before eating begins.
Perhaps, he is not only growing fonder but something more according to the whispers of his heart.
Spitballing an AU idea (that needs more angst and seriousness than I’m good for)
Severus Snape time-travel AU, but from Tobias’ external perspective (probably a less abusive Tobias than whatever it was Pottermore implied. Messy and awful and not liking anything much and estranged from his son for nearly a decade despite sharing a roof, but also just a human who'd had the world yanked out from under him and hasn’t yet stopped falling). So, how would a Severus Snape who’d just died thinking he failed (failed Lily, Dumbledore too, perhaps) after he’d spent a suffering year as the Headmaster at Hogwarts react to having another chance (albeit from after SWM) and what would that look like from the outside?
A mystery story: Who is this Severus? What has happened to his son, aged sixteen, home for the summer, only yesterday so full of rage (still so hurt over Eileen’s death last winter) and somehow no longer friends with that Evans girl? Why did Severus save his father’s life (and how had he known where to be?) when just the other day the boy had glared like he wanted to put Tobias in the grave himself? Can you build a father-son relationship on a foundation of sand and ruin when the son has suddenly become a stranger with some personal mission to stop a war and save the very people that wouldn’t’ve spit on him if he were on fire (that boy is acting like a soon-to-be saint grimly rushing towards martyrdom!)?
Years ago Tobias hadn’t wanted to believe in magic, when it was undeniably real, he’d resented magic (he still didn’t like magic). But Severus is acting like it’s his job to save the magical world and maybe there's a chance that he might need his muggle father, maybe it isn’t too late for Tobias
(I like the image of Severus seeing Tobias’ approval in the Mirror of Erised. I like the idea of a very human Tobias who was utterly blindsided by magic being a thing and in over his head and still, possibly, capable of being better. But I’m not terribly prone to making angsty things or taking stories seriously for very long at all, so if it sparks any interest feel free to grab and go running)
#Rambling#fanfic barebones thoughts#Severus Snape#Tobias Snape#A take on the time-travel AU#Not something I'm likely to ever do anything with because I'm a very silly person#And there's not a great deal of silliness that I see in this idea
It has been a hot minute since I’ve made one of these. So, I’m here to wish @digthewriter all the best wishes since it’s their birthday today! And thus, we’ve got a custom nameplate and a rec list to celebrate the occasion! Dig has been a longtime fandom friend who I met through our mutual Drarry circles. We also happen to be local, so hanging out (on and off the internet) has worked out really well! When fests were hosted on LJ back in the day, that was how I got to know other Drarry fan artists. It was really cool to see Dig’s name start popping up in some of the fests I participated in because I always love checking out other people’s artwork. It’s no surprise that Dig’s work stands out. I have no idea how many works they’ve made over the years, but it’s super impressive! They have this crazy ability to take a prompt, run with it and turn it into a masterpiece within a blink of the eye. The fun and creative patterns Dig uses is also what makes their art unique. I’m only just learning how to use patterns in my own art, and let me just say...there’s def a strategy behind that. It’s not as easy as it looks, so I’m always in awe when Dig can just make things work. Did you know that Dig is also a writer? Yep! I remember when I received a really awesome fic (which I’ll rec below) for H/D Erised back in 2013. That was how I found out that Dig wrote fics, and I’ve been following their art and fic creations ever since. It’s always nice to know that there are kindred folks who dabble in both, which is not common or an easy thing to do! If Dig wasn’t already working on a gazillion projects, they’re also a fest mod for a variety of fests and communities, like Draco Tops Harry, HP Drizzle, Sirius Black Fest, Rarepair Shorts and Dove Drabbles, just to name a few (I’m sure I’m missing a lot more). Rarepair Shorts was what got me back into writing (in general and for Perciver), and that was how I got more into HP rare pairs these last few years. I think over time, Dig and I have gotten to scream about a bunch of things, whether it’s about Drarry, Merthur, fests, adulting, wishing we had more time to do more things, Perciver and well, it’s totally their fault for getting me hooked on Herbtamer (Charlie/Neville). Honestly, I really just appreciate their enthusiasm for fandom as a whole, and how supportive they are when it comes to many and all the characters and ships that exist. They really know how to spread the love with variety. If you want to see some of that, here are some of my favourite Dig art pieces: 🎨 >>> Gonna make coffee (Linny, G)
Summary: Luna wakes up before Ginny and puts on Ginny's shirt to go and make coffee/breakfast.
I really love the colours and patterns used in the piece. They go so well together (those warm and cool colours are complimentary on the colour wheel yo), and the perspective of looking into the room is so aesthetically pleasing to look at. I love how Ginny’s still snoozing, and Luna’s secretly gazing at her (and ieeeee! She’s got a Ginny shirt on that’s tartan!). :D 🖌️ >>> Morning in the Garden (Herbtamer, G)
Summary: Neville shares his favourite place with Charlie in the morning.
What I love about this piece is not only how soft the colours are, but how papercrafty this looks. It’s like the textures and details are popping out and the scene is moving. SO COOL...I mean, how does one even do that?!! And the endearing looks Charlie and Neville are giving each other? So cute! That’s really the cherry on top. 🖼️ >>> Body By Biryani (Drarry, G)
Summary: Harry co-owns a Biryani Stand at the Wizarding Little India Bazaar. It's Draco's favourite spot. All the aunties love to take care of Draco and want Harry to ask him out already.
Just looking at this piece makes me feel like I’m right there at the Bazaar. There’s such a sense of a welcoming environment, the food looks yummy, and the textures really bring the art to life. There are so many details to appreciate, and I really could look at this for quite some time. And if you’d like some new reading to add to your TBR list, please go ahead and check these Dig fics out: 📘 >>> Only the Lonely (Drarry, E, 20.9k)
Summary: Lonely Draco is lonely. Everyone knows it. The thing is, the only person who doesn't see it, is Draco. Also Potter's looking mighty fit!
OKAYYYY. I know this is an older story, but pleasseee go read it ASAP. I think it’s brilliant (not just because it was gifted to me), but the first time I read it, I was so moved by how much angst and overall feelings this sprung up in Harry and Draco, but me just reacting to them. Harry and Draco come together so beautifully, and there are many little details and metaphors that prove they were meant to be. Every time I reread this fic, yasss...I always remember why I love it so much. Make sure you have tissues with you, and I promise this will be worth the read with a happy ending. 📒 >>> As if you were on fire from within (Herbtamer, T, 9.2k)
Summary: Neville finds comfort in an unlikely friendship after his boyfriend dumps him.
I’m so glad I found this gem! This fic just sums up what I think Neville and Charlies energy would be like. Charlie, being so bold and forward and Neville, being reluctant and awkward. And Gran being gran...she’s definitely a smart lady for sure, even if she might enjoy meddling a bit to make sure Neville is happy. And she’s got a good eye for good blokes (ahem Charlie ahem). I do love how we see how Gryffindor these two idiots are, especially when they fail to use their words or make misguided assumptions. But when they finally do sort their crap out and talk to each other honestly, Neville and Charlie make an excellent pair. Their chemistry is electric. You can find more of Dig’s work on AO3. Make sure to leave kudos and comments to show appreciation for all of their fandom contributions. Dig, thank you for everything you’ve done over the years, and all the stuff you keep doing for us. You’ve been such a rock star celebrating so many different ships (and fandoms). I’m so glad to call you a friend who just gets what fandom and geek life is all about. Have a great day!
