Banging my head against the wall watching Olrox tell Tera that she can accept her vampirism and still stay true to herself and keep her love for her daughter in her heart, only for her to basically tell him to fuck off
Tearing my hair out watching Olrox get branded, risk his position to protect Mizrak and warn him of what's coming, and tell him—a man trying to repent for the role he played in all this shit—that he is driven by LOVE only to be called a demon and a devil
I have a bunch of half-formed thoughts I can't articulate just yet but GOD DAMN the tragedy of Olrox's character keeps me up at night

Let Men Cry
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just a small thing that I adore about Castlevania as a show is that we see a lot of men cry. And with that I mean really ugly cry, rather than having a single tear sexy-cry. I love it.
Let men cry. Men deserve to cry, too.

We know now that the man who turned Olrox into a vampire was a Spanish colonizer. We can use this to safely assume that Olrox likely wasn't on friendly terms with other (European) vampires who came over with the colonists. We also know that, even though some vampires have forgotten who Alucard is by the time Nocturne takes place, the ones accompanying Drolta and Erzsebet knew enough to react with visible fear when he introduced himself at the end of season 1.
There are sooo many ways the Olrox and Alucard backstory could go, but I do like the thought of Alucard stepping foot into the New World and Olrox immediately sensing a shift in the other vampires there. Seeing how on edge they are, hearing their whispers of the daywalker who hunts them. The half-breed, the vampire who's not a vampire.
How could he not be intrigued? He's wary, of course, as he's learned to be of these European vampires, and we also know he's felled his fair share of vampire hunters, but he's also opportunistic. Perhaps this Alucard could be an ally, but even if not, he's at the very least someone he needs to keep an eye on. The enemy of my enemy and all that.
And Alucard almost certainly hearing stories of Olrox, too. The vampire who took on the form of a Sun God. Countless vampire hunters fallen in the pursuit of him. But an enigmatic figure; not the typical conquering would-be master of the world that other vampires aspire to. Alucard knows better than most that vampires are capable of humanity, but he also knows better than to trust based purely on word of mouth.
The two finally meeting, wary apex predators sizing each other up for the first time. Not an obvious enemy like foes they've faced before, but not sure whether than can trust one another. But both living legends in their own right. And both outcasts, too; forced to be at a distance from humanity, but not quite fitting with other vampires either.
Did they circle each other warily at first? Always remaining aware of where the other was in vicinity to them, but not meeting, not risking an outright confrontation just yet. Seeing the marks of each other's work in the world around them; empty nests where vampires once were, opportunistic vampire hunters going missing in the night.
Did one of them eventually force first contact? Was it Olrox, attempting to put their first meeting on his terms? Or was it Alucard, deciding to finally assess whether Olrox was friend or foe? Or perhaps it was coincidental, a common enemy finally pushing them together and forcing that first meeting on equally unsteady territory?
What happened? What happened?

This scene intrigued me a lot:
Tumblr media
"I am afraid Olrox" ,HE IS AFRAID OF DEATH DESPITE HIM TELLING US THAT MONKS SHOULD NOT FEAR DEATHHH , and he tells Olrox. He wants comfort, wants A WAY OUT. He does not want to DIE. I feel this is a half permission for the 'DEED'.
Tumblr media
On the other hand, Olrox listens intently, and it's attentive, he comforts him, secures him, mulls over THAT way of saving him, take times to.
Tumblr media
Orlox comforts him phisically, and not only that, its a romantic gesture, affection, "It's gonna be fine", and the words MY LOVE the ultimate we AND THEM need to hear that, they indeed are connected more that phisically.
Tumblr media
Mizrak is scared of what's to come, of turning of course, BUT DOEST NO REFUSE, is not TERRIFIED to push Olrox away, remember, half permission, half acceptance.
Tumblr media
Resignation, after the pain of the bite, then crying for what's to come, even if hell go to hell, he's not alone.
And as an extra:
Tumblr media
Putting the eroticism aside, Mizrak can no longer bask in that ray of light, he's rigid, unmoving possibly really angry. RIght after this he shows that he IS in a rage, then goes for the Olrox neck, and Olrox let's him , because HE IS THE FIRST drop of blood that he starvingly wants. In some works vampires, are drinking each other's blood and is seen as erotic and can be equalled with s3x, as they feel euphoria.
And in conclusion:
I'm crying my heart out right now, credit for this analysis to @b-l-u-e-equinox , she did an amazing job!

Thank you for reading

In this essay I will explain how the branding scene was in no way Olrox’s character getting bungled but made his character better instead
Spoilers for s2 below the cut
Olrox’s introduction in s1e1 was about getting revenge for a murdered lover.
And Olrox is established to love Mizrak too in much the same way.
He also blatantly refuses to let Mizrak die. Twice. Once in s1e8 and once in s2e2, both of which have Mizrak trying to join a fight that Olrox states will get him killed. He will not let Mizrak die. And to him, that goal is more important than Mizrak’s complaints or the fate of innocents or the fate of the world.
With that half of the setup out of the way, I can talk about Olrox and Erzebet’s first meeting.
They are actively sizing each other up during this and determining what the other wants.
Olrox is flippant, disrespectful, and downright rude because in his eyes, this is a colonizer playing god who blindly expects him to fall in line- even when he says he will never worship her. Hell, he doesnt care when Erzebet shows off her magic tricks. What matters is when Drolta suggests that Olrox has a weakness, implying that it’s something that will be exploited if Olrox doesn’t bow down to them.
And he does bow- pissed as he is- even when he’s directly told that Erzebet and Drolta want him to help colonize the new world.
It doesn’t particularly matter if Drolta actually knew his weakness. What matters is that she’s powerful and clever enough, with enough underlings, to find it- or rather- him and leverage him against Olrox. And that. Cannot. Happen.
In s2e2 however, Olrox gets reckless. He starts lying to Drolta and Erzebet. He ‘didn’t even bother looking for the warrior-monk’ but that’s not true at all. Hell, he finds Mizrak and the whole gaggle of heroes that he ‘definitely didn’t see’.
This is not. a terribly subtle lie. Drolta’s thoroughly studying him and almost certainly picks up on his bullshit but doesn’t call him on it. Not yet.
Now we arrive at the branding scene in s2e3
Drolta points out that Olrox really hasn’t done anything to prove his loyalty and he decides to bow and play nice and tell Erzebet just how much he admires and worships her because that’s the best way forward, even if it’s a bald faced lie because Olrox said he’d *never* worship her
At this point, his bluff gets tacitly called by Drolta, who asks him what he has sacrificed- what will he die for? And Erzebet chimes in with, “or who?”
She follows this up with some *very* specific phrasing, “If you love me Olrox…” and here she pauses to put a thumb to his lips which is Very Intentionally adding the subtext of romantic or physical love. She’s stating that she knows Olrox has a person he loves. And she knows who it is.
This isn’t a vague threat anymore. Erzebet’s telling him that he’s on a much shorter leash now and that Mizrak is going to be put in harms way if he doesn’t behave. Drolta would kill him. And then it would be over. He cannot. Let Mizrak. Die.
He’s been willing to compromise on his morals before for Mizrak, been willing to bow to colonizers and let the world burn for Mizrak. What is a brand that will fade quickly enough? What is the damage to his pride in the face of losing Mizrak forever? He can compromise once more if it means Mizrak will live. He *must* live.
The whole scene is *there* because it shows that when push comes to shove, Olrox will do *anything* to keep his boyfriend alive. It’s what he values absolutely above all else and when he’s forced to choose, Olrox will pick Mizrak’s life every time.
(This does also serve as setup to the s2 finale and the Olrox/Mizrak shenanigans there)
TLDR Olrox let himself get branded to keep Mizrak safe, not because he was just being a doormat. The writers were very intentionally showing that he’d compromise every other moral and belief- including not playing nice with rich colonizer assholes- to the end of not letting Drolta get near Mizrak.
That is all, thank you for coming to my ted talk, and grab a cookie on your way out 🍪

Olrox!! Olrox no!!! The redemptive nature of love is NOT deontological!!! Your ethic of care has gotten twisted, bro!! It is not enough to do something out of love!!! Your expression of care cannot be successful if the object of that care is not receptive to it and the consequences it brings!! You're repeating the cycle of trauma that brought you here in the first place!! Olrox—!!!

Nocturne Season 2 has officially confirmed that Alucard did, in fact, spending at least six generations as the Belmonts' "favorite uncle" and I might curl up and die of cuteness from that statement.
Apparently Juste knew him from meeting him "a total of three days" when he was fourteen, and Juste's father and grandfather "went on and on" about Alucard like he was "some sort of favorite uncle."
Hearing Juste say all of that turned me onto a puddle.
Alucard teasingly/jokingly apologizing for not being around to "bring toys" and "give fishing lessons" while Juste was little was amusing as banter, but I love the implication that Alucard probably did just that for Juste's dad, granddad, and so on.
Alucard's reason for becoming distant with the Belmont family broke my heart 😢
He was "tired of seeing Belmonts die," y'all 😭
Also the line "It's been so long since I was young, I'd forgotten what it was like."
THE NOCTURNE WRITERS NEED TO CEASE AND DESIST, I CAN'T WITH THIS ALUCARD ANGST!!!!
Just kidding, yes I can, give me more!!!!
