Rewatching Dead Boy Detectives for the 6th time and I STILL have so many thoughts, so let's do this
Episode 1
Tumblr media
1. That's everything Crystal has on her for the rest of the season, right?
She must have had some money and her passport on that bag because she did change clothes and traveled half-way round the globe. But Jenny talks like Crystal doesn't have a credit card, so how much cash did she carry on her on a random day in the tube??
Well not enough to pay rent for the cheapest room in town when they arrived. (She wears a borrowed Tongue & Tail t-shirt from Jenny later, that's cute.)
I like how her original look is much darker and more mature, reflecting her mean girl personality. The long jacket later is still purple, but a light color with a colorful floral patterned turtleneck underneath.
(If she had her passport she has her full legal name and social security number to identify herself though-??)
2. I REALLY want to know what happened during those "two flights, one ferry ride" - where did the boys sit? Did Crystal buy a whole row of seats so they could sit together? (And was seen talking to herself alone the whole time lol)
Have the boys ever been on a plane (they haven't been on a ferry)? HOW DID EDWIN REACT... Please I want a fanfic
3. When they start investigating, Charles says to Crystal "I know you don't fancy this part, deep-diving into someone's brain. We can figure out another way if you'd like." Which is sweet, so Charles, but also, how did he know what she prefers? (They must have talked about it on the ferry ride.)
4. I thought it odd that Edwin would stumble out of the mirror, when he's always so careful and carries himself with such poise? But then I saw Kassius and Jayden, they both have the biggest grins on their faces just short of laughing. It's definitely a blooper, but George stayed in character so perfectly they left it in.
Tumblr media
(George did confirm in an interview that due to Ghost Rules, the boys don't trip on treestumps etc, they would just phase through. So definitely not a scripted move.)
5. "Not exclusively my internet. (Charles laughs) I'll explain again later."
Crystal was the one that taught Edwin the concept of internet?? Did this happen on the ferry ride too??
6. THE VISUAL STORYTELLING. I'm obsessed how the costume department specifically adds visual cues to the boys' wardrobe depending on their emotional state.
We all know Charles' polo darkens when he goes through tough times, only returning to his original bright red after they're back from Hell. We understand that Edwin being in his Edwardian undergarments in the confession scene makes it so emotionally raw and vulnerable.
We don't see Edwin without his coat after they arrive in Port Townsend. There's the scene in the beginning when it's just him and Charles at home in their office, where we can see him without it. He can be his real self there, because he's safe and comfortable.
The heavy coat is Edwin's armor, a visual metaphora of the emotional walls he puts up against the world. He always wears it around Crystal.
Here, in the upstairs, where the topic of David upsets Edwin and he storms off.
Tumblr media
Yet right after, we see him without it! I believe ghosts appearance may change to reflect their emotional state (or maybe Edwin just shucked it off, who knows)
Tumblr media
It's a fantastic scene altogether but just by his clothes we can see that's he's being vulnerable with Crystal for the first time. I only noticed this detail now and I love it.
(In the next scene of making their plan together Edwin is still wearing this look. We can see they're not enemies anymore, but a team.)
7. When Crystal agrees and offers peace, Edwin actually *looks at Charles* for confirmation. He's out of his element here and needs his support. Charles is the one who knows how to hande people, so Edwin doesn't make any decisions before checking with him. Edwin only forgives Crystal when he sees Charles had approved of her.
(After he does, he glances back at Charles again, like he still needed that last bit of validation that he did the right thing.)
Tumblr media
Their bond is so strong. There's always consideration for the other, whatever they do. The acting is also incredible.
Nonverbal communication has a huge role in this series, as much as the dialogue does. So many things are conveyed with just looks and sighs and the many close-up shots that make us emotionally connect with the characters.
8. Charles having beef with Monty right at the start will never not be funny. "Everyone likes me eventually." It's just a bird.
Even on top of the list of his day's heroic feats is "smack-talking a crow." I love him sm
+ As a bonus, look at this gorgeous shot of Charles with the neon light reflecting on his earring. Chef's kiss

Carlos getting the answer to who his father's murderer was is closure to the curiosity he's had this year. But it will never make it better. The last scene is a perfect dialogue for the conclusion to this storyline.
Carlos waking up in a panic- Him still having this struggle and his inability to sleep, even after the resolution is an important note.
-Carlos is a problem-solver (as in he thinks in a way where there are clear steps to "fix" his problems/to guide his emotions). It could be the detective in him. He is a planner and it is so like him to "everything is going according to plan"(or "I must complete step A before I get to step B" his way through) his dad's investigation, so that it consumes him until he finds the truth.
"I thought if I figure out who did this, it would make the pain better, but it's worse."
I think if we go back to Carlos' initial hesitance from wanting to raise kids, it makes sense for Carlos; we know him to want to "do things right" and to doubt himself, so much so, that he puts his life on hold (to please his family's idea of him & his sexuality, to look after his best friend, etc). But you can tell there's two different showrunners. Rashad has taken the tarlos kids debate and made it more about not being in the right place in life, but in 4x12, while the same reasonings are an underlying cause, the issue is presented as more as Carlos' desire to experience more with the distinct possibility that he could never want kids (in a lengthier, solo-topic post, I could give my full thoughts on this, but all of this COULD be direct effects of avoiding). In 4x12, this is when Gabriel is still alive and the "not the right time" excuse that he uses cannot originate back to finding closure to Gabriel's death. Both of these scenarios have the same underlying cause on Carlos' end, but the former presentation in season 4 dresses up the issue with circling around the real reason and no immediate resolution at the end of the episode (which is the episode's purpose and couple's "compromise") that I now could honestly see for how some people thought Carlos' hesitancy = genuine disinterest to wanting to ever be a father. I guess what I'm trying to say is Rashad took a direct approach towards the issue, while Tim danced around the subject (could have been intentional for Carlos' avoidance, could have been not executed well; I'm not trying to get into a discourse for that part right now, but...) With Carlos, there would always be something stopping him.
Taking life as it comes, not waiting for when you think you are ready when you kind of know you are ready (in Carlos' case for wanting "the right time" for most siutations that arise with him, not that having a kid doesn't require planning in most cases/logicics-wise that aren't just down to avoiding life steps that seems to occur with Carlos) are general rules of thumb to uncertainties of living. Carlos had to come to that conclusion after his father's death and AFTER trying to conclude something of meaning of his dad's tragedy and STILL coming up with this outcome of no resolution...of no ending to an ultimate life-altering event, and no guarantees to the future he has dabbled about, like traveling to Tuscany or hiking. And it hurts...but it's such a real message!
Another thing that's occurred to me-on the topic of tarlos' involvement in this set-up: Carlos says he hasn't been able to look at the last photo of Gabriel since the day before he died (and not being able to reminiscence because of that pain). But..but, TK when Gwyn died was able to look at her pictures with him when he was little, once a bit of time had passed. That's another little parallelism of tarlos, really highlighting the differences in how they deal with things. Carlos waiting roughly a year and a half before he could view a camera-roll memory with his dad kills me. And TK realizing that after death, your loved ones live on, and having updated struggles even this year that led to talking with Tommy shows the growth in his grief journey...that still shows his grieving.
In thinking about TK's mom's death vs Carlos' dad's death. They were both murdered. But TK's mom's was accidental, which he had resolution on to who did it. And his view on that "last piece being gone" is something he would not have thought in the immediate aftermath of his mom's death. But here is this line now, where he can help Carlos through his sadness, because he's been through it and come to his own realizations in a similar way. And that's beautiful.
And Carlos coming to the conclusion about being a dad, like his dad, who he always saw as a work man and someone he idolized as a loving husband to his mom, despite never having the parental bond where he could be sensitive, is the full circle of this father-son relationship journey, because of how complicated their relationship was.
"You were my dad. And I hope you'll be with me as I become one too."
-And, thus, Gabriel lives on in him through this journey, as he tells him FIRST.

Arcane Season 2 Act 2 my thoughts (+analysis)
Wow just wow…this show really is a rollercoaster and this set of episodes really delved into the family dynamics of Vi and Jinx, two broken characters trying to fix what was lost between them. Jinx being forced to reckon with who she is as a leader in Zaun, inspiring those to stand up against the injustice wrought by the enforcers and this time we get to see the innocent and more soft side of her as she realises all these people look up to her as their saviour when all her life she was led to believe she was a monster who gets everyone she comes close to killed but she realises that she is making an impact on everyone around her including Isha who reminds her of her past self that she buried and is bringing that back out to the surface. Their sibling relationship was really beautiful to witness because they would save each other every damn time. It was cruel watching that get taken away from us because Isha’s final act was saving Jinx from Warwick’s rampage, though her life was short lived just like Powder’s, her sacrifice really showed the impact Jinx had made on her life and that act of preservation and love will help her finally embrace the role of a saviour complex the people of Zaun need, in the shadow of Viktor’s passing, a fallen messiah who used his power of healing for good. Jinx takes that chance and must weaponise her own destruction for good, to liberate her people and what remains of her family from Ambessa and the Piltover Guard and also Jayce who seeks to wipe every last remnant of Hextech.
I really liked the twist that Vander was Warwick as it added loads of tragedy to his character and really fuelled the emotional beats for the reminder of the story, in particular Vi and Jinx’s journeys respectively. The idea of Vander's love being the one thing that ties the sisters together was really beautiful to me because every time he saw Jinx, he was reminded of Powder which brought back his humanity which was slowly being corrupted by the beast. Powder is his tether to humanity thus why he protects her with all his might (“they don't touch my daughter” scene comes to light). This link to humanity, his memories of Ponder is what helps him overcome his monstrous impulses. He's a dead man who has turned into something unrecognisable and yet the memory and warm love Vander once embodied still resides within him and Vi and Jinx are working so hard to persevere that. This is shown in the memory sequence Viktor observed in his mind because Vander's impact is always felt on Vi and Jinx. He gave Vi her name, he was a loyal friend of their mother. His dying words to Vi was for her to protect Powder. That's why he recognises Jinx and sees her for who she used to be, why he saved her. Jinx may blame herself for his death but that only brings him closer to her. So when that perfect image of family was taken away from them, the monster from within won and every last memory of Vander is stripped away from him because that light Viktor was trying so hard to untangle from him was gone the moment he was killed.
Jayce really lost his mind because who knew one senseless action could cause this horrific chain of events to happen because being trapped in that anomaly caused him to see a false and corrupted vision of the future and it descended him into madness. Jayce is the reason Viktor loses his humanity because as he said in his dying moments the greatest good can also become your greatest evil. So what Jayce believed he was doing right by killing Viktor and stopping him from going down the wrong path only was the fuel to the fire that caused it. Betrayal and the tragedy it brings and how it melds us into the worst version of ourselves is a very integral theme in Arcane as seen with Vander and Silco, Vi and Powder, Vi and Caitlyn etc. Jayce and Viktor is just another representative cursed by the narrative and the ramifications of this betrayal will be dealt by them in terrifying ways and how they'll overcome that is going to be very central heading into the last three episodes. There is no changing the past, but there must be a way to make a better future with it as well.
The only way this show can end is if Vi and Jinx finally forgive each other and themselves and finally use love as their greatest weapon against the evil that threatens to supress them, how sacrifice impacts them and encourages them to carry on what the people who are gone had taught them. Love is what united them rather than hate and I think that's a beautiful thing. The resolution of their arc would be those two sisters reconciling, living in peace knowing their family is in a better place. For Vander to be ressurected and for Zaun to return to what it used to be under his resistance, finally at a peaceful agreement with Piltover where no more blood is shed. Where Hextech isn't used as a weapon anymore.
But overall, this episodes truly were a masterclass in storytelling and animation with its vibrant and colourful visuals. Truly can't wait for Act 3 because the symbolism of this show goes crazy.

Watching the Lawsuit arc and you know what's the kicker? For the entire episode that leads to the Lawsuit, everyone is shown being with their family or loved ones even while going through difficult things and having each other's backs (Hen and Karen with the pregnancy attempt, Maddie and Chim + Eddie and Chris with ptsd). And both times Buck visits his family/loved ones, he feels betrayed (Bosko not Buckley. Bobby being the reason he couldn't return to work). And the "anything. Like a knife in my back" line really puts things into perspective. Buck's gone through back to back trauma and his fallback (the 118, his family) are the ones betraying him (right after he was so confident in talking about how they were a family to that sleazebag lawyer too, like OUCH). It really shows how desperate Buck was. He felt like he was losing everything; his job, his friends, his family. He's been gone awhile and there's someone already replacing him (temporarily) , so I can imagine in his head, he's just thinking about how the longer it takes for him to come back, the easier it will be for everyone to replace him and where would that leave him exactly? Alone.

Greetings, hunters!
You can call me Ghost (yes, that is a jab at how everyone in SPN dies).
This is my second watch through of Supernatural and I’m going to try to analyze the show because I’m a nerd.
I will do my best to be objective while talking about the different characters, plot lines, and ships. That being said, everything that I’m saying is my own opinion on the show and I ask that you please be respectful.
You are more than welcome to send me asks and I will do my best to answer them all!
Have a lovely day, hunters! :)

911, season 1 episode 10: A Whole New You (last part of my series. I will keep watching and might make a post occasionally, but not for every episode.)
I forgot Abby's mom died last episode...
God buck is being so sweet, and I don't have to really like Abby to feel bad for her right now.
Double call and she's British, but let me guess not really
BOOM I was right she's just having a stroke!
I just want Buck to be happy but I really don't think it should be with her, they could have been fine as friends.
Bobby is trying to take a selfie and looks like such a dork (me too)
Tell me it's not a dating app
It is, oh boi
Busting his balls but being supportive too.
It does look like a real estate ad
Hen is a cheater, Chim hasn't had great luck and Buck is a recovering sex addict but some how right about being the best choice.
Wait wtf quick turn around???
Dating theme so far, so I'm assuming the lady got catfished.
Buck is so upset because nobody believes him, poor boy.
For Athena's storyline, I enjoy them trying to do what is right for themselves and the kids. I also like that they still care and show affection to each other for comfort.
Just because it isn't romantic doesn't mean they didn't build a life together.
Okay the show doesn't mind bordering on the more supernatural elements of stuff huh.
God I love carla so much 💜
Poor lyle out here paralyzed in a morgue
Ope, there goes the mortician, down for the count.
This dude goes through something so horrifying multiple times but keeps doing so for the lol's
That poor mortician suffering because this dude is high on life.
I know they are still together because of things I've seen, but I really wish they never did a cheating storyline. I don't even know how or why Karen would forgive her.
Like I don't know who I feel bad for more, Buck or Abby because as much as I'm indifferent/dislike their love story. These bitches cannot catch a break. Always getting interrupted or something going wrong. Literally a relationship doomed from the start.
Poor Buck trying to be honest and nobody believes him. One of the worst feelings in the world.
Dude going through a midlife crisis and the motorcycle employee could not give less of a fuck.
I actually think motorcycles are cool as hell but they are dangerous and I would not get on one if my life depended on it.
Immediately proving my point dude got literally split in two.
Bobby is going through it, but Athena is helping him and he is looking at her so sweetly 🥺
They are praying together, gosh my poor heart.
Gross, this dude looks like he might pop like a balloon. At least Buck is trying to show him some level of courtesy.
This coroner is so annoyed, but he's a little bit of a douche so I don't care.
He did not pop, but this might be worse.
She is planning on leaving for an extended period of time on a journey of self discovery, and did not discuss it with her partner at all. Selfish behavior and bad communication skills (ironic for an operator)
She broke his heart and he still trying to be supportive. It feels like he cares more about her than she does him. Also idk if he has mommy issues but man that age gap is getting to me more.
Bobby is handsome and I hope his date goes well.
OH SHIT HE TOSSED THE BOOK!!!
Good for him!
Karen is home, but no explanation for why yet.
Buck got better with his words, that's the real character growth here.
Bobby got a date with Athena!
Fitting one old fashioned person out of practice for another.
Mostly a great episode, can't wait for the next season!

Season 1, episode 19: Red Tape
Spoilers ahead, folks, so those who haven't seen it have been warned.
For those who have seen the episode, here's a little synopsis to jog your memory ... Someone is leaking information on search warrents, and it's killed officers who are ambushed or bombed when they head in.
At the beginning, Tubbs heads in with a pair of young cops (Eddie and Bobby), only for one (Eddie) to be killed in a pre-planned explosion.
Tubbs is furious. He feels like cops are being told to keep serving search warrants and no one is trying to protect them. He sort of loses it and quits the force, yelling at everyone who tries to help.
He's offered a job by the same guy who is getting the other cops killed, and he accepts. He gives information to the guy and it really looks for a moment like he's betrayed the team.
Of course he hasn't. Of course he quit the force in a big show to lure the guy out. The guy ends up getting killed, but so does Bobby, the young partner of the cop who died in Tubbs' arms at the beginning. Bobby thought Tubbs had really turned.
Classic Miami Vice.
Now every single time I watch this episode I'm left with the same stinking question. When did the whole Vice team get in on the fact that Rico was acting?
Did they know at all?
Cuz it sure looks to me like Rico actually flipped his lid for a bit, realized that he could use it to find who'd been leaking information, then called Castillo and told him.
I mean at the beginning when Eddie dies in his arms, he yells in anger.
Tumblr media
And there's no way they planned Eddie dying to catch cop killers. So at least in the beginning for sure, Tubbs is genuinely pissed.
There's a break after, where we happily listen to the MV theme, and when the episode resumes there is already a whole boatload of other people at the crime scene. Tubbs is still furious, mouthing off to the investigator who's come to take his statement.
Tumblr media
Now it's totally conceivable that offscreen Castillo and Tubbs and Crockett have come up with a plan for Tubbs to "go off the deep end." Right before or after this scene would have been the perfect time to put that plan into place.
But if that's what happened, then I've got a problem with it.
Tubbs goes off the deep end, sure, quitting the force, yelling at a poor woman and breaking her display case, he rails at Sonny, who does his best to keep calm ...
Tumblr media
But then there's a scene with Switek in the office after hours. Switek asks if Tubbs is really giving up and leaving, and Tubbs pretty much tells him off.
Tumblr media
Switek mentions Zito, saying that he wanted to leave after his partner's death, but that he kept with it. Then he says that he is just offering Tubbs a shoulder to lean on.
Tubbs says, "Well consider yourself leaned on."
Tumblr media
And this is the crux of my problem. In every other situation it's completely possible that Tubbs was putting on a show. It's possible that he's playing it up so that he can find the leak.
But in this instance there are only two people in the office. Him and Swi. That means he had absolutely no call to say what he did unless he was really, genuinely angry - or unless Switek isn't in on the act.
So.
Let's say I'm right. Rico started out genuinely furious, but realized he could use it to find the leak. He goes cowboy cop, not telling anyone his plan until they ask him to give information.
He gives true information and then calls the office and let's them know what he's done, finally clueing them in on his Lone Ranger act.
Now if this is the case (as it potentially could be) there is no fallout or rancor from the rest of the team. So I can only assume that it all happened off-screen.
...
Of course I realize that the true reason behind all of this is to trick us - the audience - into believing that Rico has quit, so they can grandly reveal that he didn't at the end.
It's not an uncommon plot-line, but this version of it leaves far more questions than it answers.
What do you guys think happened (in-universe)?

Everybody NEEDS to listen to the new Wild Life retrospective on Imp and Skizz's podcast. They got Grian called in and they give so many cool insights into the series (and honestly say so many things I think people need to hear)
Highlights for me:
Grian designed each wild card to be weaponized and wanted everyone to take advantage of them. He goes over each individually and all the thought he put into them and all the work the backend team put into their execution. He's rightfully really proud of them. Him gushing about Trivia Bot and how excited he was to show his friends the "coolest snail ever" is particularly sweet.
Skizz says discovering each wild card was a LOT of fun. He says something like "I can't believe as an adult I get to have so much fun." Impulse is really impressed with the execution of each, citing stuff like making it rain when the time one activated and the passive mobs spawning in before being replaced, and how the little details like that built excitement and tension.
Grian says how he understands that some viewers maybe just want more seasons of the essentially the same series, ie six seasons of just Third Life, but it's more important to him that the Lifers get to experience something new and fresh. He also doesn't like comparing each series, preferring to consider each one as its own thing.
Impulse can't wait to do another Life series, Skizz is equally excited but tries to hold discussion about it back since he doesn't want anyone pressuring Grian, who is palpably burned out. Like, you can hear how tired this man is. Grian says there will probably be more series since everyone is still enjoying it, but he's not trying to outdo himself and not to expect him to keep escalating.
Skizz always tries to do something new each season yet feels like he always falls back into the same habits and dynamics, but not this time: he feels like he got to explore a new dynamic with the Spanners and had a blast doing it. He and Grian gush about how much fun they had with their "big brother trying to keep his little brothers alive" routine.
They have a grand time making fun of Impulse and his "Sweats". Impulse is unabashedly still hungry to win a series.
Impulse didn't want to kill zombie Skizz, because of the five minute cooldown, but Skizz makes clear that he was really happy with being a zombie, even if there was a lot of doing nothing in between summons. He says it means a lot to him that he got to help with the burden of facilitating the series, even just a little bit.
Grian gives good insight into his personal life strategy: he does some things to deliberately test his relationship with other players. Standing in the Danger Zone was a trust exercise, testing Jimmy and Scar. Jimmy and Scar failed.
Despite Scar failing the trust exercise, Grian heard the disappointment in Scar's voice about the Snail Bot thing and immediately caved, but he's really happy that it led them to in-canon reconciling and becoming strong allies again.
Grian's favorite moment was making Jimmy pay for the failed trust exercise by blowing up the bunker, particularly pleased with his one liner of "it was always gonna be like this". He says Wild Life as a whole has been the most enjoyable series for him, even though he didn't get to have as much fun as the other players due to knowing all the wild cards.
All three of them gush over the scene of everybody failing to kill Joel as he teleports around, laughing about how it was straight out of a movie or an anime. Impulse feels like Joel took his superpower to a new level, but Grian reminds him the he didn't have an army chasing him around trying to kill him. They're all super impressed with how the finale turned out.
Some of the powers were assigned (Cleo, BigB, BDubs, Scar, Lizzie), some were random (Impulse, Martyn). Some were based on players' names, others on their personal narratives, but coming up with ~16 different powers without including any that would just be exploited for cheap instakills was really difficult, which is why there were so many espionage ones. Hilariously, Grian was hoping Scar would accidentally kill Jimmy by punching him off a cliff because of their ritual of trying punching in the earlier episodes. He also gave Scar that power because he knew Scar wouldn't feel bad about killing people with it.
Grian chose to give himself the mimic so he could show people how their powers worked if he needed to, and so that it wasn't given to somebody else who'd have to spend the whole session figuring out the mechanics of 15 separate superpowers and potentially dying because of it. And because he thinks its the coolest one and he wanted it (lol)
All around there's tons of fun details and stuff in this episode of the podcast and absolutely everybody should listen to it all the way through.
