Best thing about the Charles and Edwin Dynamic is how equal it is. The show Tells us that Charles is the Protector and Edwin the Intellectual, but it Shows that they both defend each other, and both take the detective role.

The first scene of Charles teaching Edwin to box and Edwin refusing, fully confident that 'if such an event happens, you will hit it with your cricket bat' only gets more heartwrenching the more you learn about the characters, because Edwin SHOULD be untrusting and paranoid and desperate to protect himself, should Hell come after them. But he trusts Charles wholly, even where Charles makes it clear that he wants Edwin to have a level of self sufficiency in martial arts.

But right before this, we had an incredible scene of Edwin reassuring Charles, that he would 'never let Death separate them'. It's not exactly swinging a bat, but it's a clear protection and implicit threat against the Endless, that Edwin will Keep Them Together with emphasis. In fact, throughout the series, Edwin is the most effusive fan of Charles, repeatedly saying how intelligent Charles is, or how valuable his insight is, even without Charles letting on about his insecurities.

But you also have Charles, clearly skilled in rituals, painting the trap for David the Demon, and explicitly the only one who can control and use his backpack, showing a high level of technical skill in magic. It's Charles who realises that the trinket picked up from Tragic Mick's can be used to trap the dandelion sprites and Charles who picks up the underwater music box.

So often we see two sides of the same coin, but this is such a gentle subversion. They're both partners, and they reflect each other in a way that speaks as testament to that. Of course Charles would know a wide range of details on the Supernatural, because he's familiar from listening to Edwin, as well as experienced. Of course Charles would utilise magical equipment, though he doesn't have the same verstility as Edwin in casting. It makes sense for the two of them to have patchwork competency, with overlapping fields of expertise. That's what it means to be partners. That's what it means to love someone.

Edwin might have Scary Dog Privileges but i think Charles would genuinely be crushed if he found out he was the scary dog -> it's also kinda funny that this dynamic switches once you get to know the two

[the four of them are chilling in the office, because Niko is alive and im not open to criticisms actually, thank you] [Charles had just shooed off a particularly nasty client- a nasty nasty client that resulted in the agency closing early. Or least going on break] [Edwin is on the couch, reading, while the other three are sitting on the floor playing cards] Crystal, tossing a blue 3 into a steadily growing pile: You know, it's so nice not having to deal with people like that anymore Charles, taking his turn: People like what? Crystal: You know- assholes like that guy. Who think they can be rude to service workers just because they're 'paying' [Niko nods emphatically as she debates on the best card, while Edwin doesn't even look away from his book] Edwin, briefly reaching down to squeeze his partner's shoulder: I can tell you Charles has never once let that kind of abhorrent behavior slide, especially not in this office. You needn't worry Niko, finally laying down a yellow three: That true, it's like having our own scary dog.. but instead of robbers, he scares off rude people. And spirits [Crystal snickers, her fingers primed to set down a yellow skip] Crystal: And Night Nurses. Charles, with the face of a people pleaser obviously about to crack: ...you guys think I'm scary? [Everybody freezes- Edwin on the couch, Crystal with her skip, and Niko with remaining two cards] [Edwin finally looks up from his book to glare incredulously at Crystal from over Charles' head. Crystal quickly chooses a new card] Crystal, shaking her head: ...no- No no, no no no.. it's a- it's a joke! [The game is quickly abandoned in favor of Niko and Crystal scooting closer on opposite sides of Charles- the latter holding her phone out with one of those 'reasons i feel safe walking alone' videos open and playing] [Edwin leans over Charles' head to watch too, his hand laying almost protectively on the other boy's shoulder]

my jellicle OC, Idylipity (Idle-ip-itty.) She hangs out in the local church and lives up by the church bell, so her hearing is bad from how loud it is.

She’s quiet and timid around the other cats, but friendly with people. Her name at the church is Peach, and they keep her around to help with the rat problem.
