USS Enterprise maps
I made some corridor maps to go along with the Enterprise deck locations, as explained in these posts:
-Saucer hull
-Engineering hull
They look a bit shitty, I know, but hopefully they'll help to get one's bearings around some parts of the ship. In general, the corridors around known sections stayed pretty consistent between seasons. Of course, there are many more corridors seen, but without any specific reference, it's impossible to situate them inside the ship.
I've marked the colored doors to make the corridors more recognizable.
Sickbay
The arrangement of the examination and exercise beds inside Ward 4 changed between seasons 1 and 2 (the arrangement here is the one from season 2 onwards).
There are several goofs related to this corridor. In "The Changeling" and "The Lights of Zetar", they enter through the door of the examination room, but appear inside McCoy's office. And in "The Mark of Gideon", they exit through the examination room, but the corridor outside corresponds to the office.
Engineering
Officer's quarters
The arrangement of the corridors doesn't make much sense, but it's what it looks like, since in "Journey to Babel" Kirk and McCoy exit the cabin through a different door (which usually leads to a closet!!), and they appear in that long corridor.
Janice has different quarters in "Charlie X", with number 3F 125. There's very little seen of its surroundings, but the corridor is different than this one.

biggest crossover event of my life, Phlox on Enterprise seemed really familiar under the makeup, and I was scrolling through a truly impressive IMDB list, and none of it seemed right, until......HE WAS ONE OF THE CARTOGRAPHERS FOR SOCIAL EQUALITY ON THE WEST WING. Aka the most iconic episode in television history for anyone who works with map projections.
didn't remember him from any other bit part in any of the other thousand tv shows he's been in one episode of, but I could recognize that voice cadence anywhere after the number of times I've seen that clip.
"Nothing is where you think it is" who said it Dr. Phlox or Dr. John Fallow
#star trek enterprise#dr phlox#the west wing#john billingsley#yes the mercator projection sucks#but actually so does the peters projection !!#the purpose of maps in schools is to inform children about general qualities#robinson is FINE#anyone want to start a fight about map projections in the star trek tag

Star Trek Picard Season 1's "Maps and Legends" and Season 3's "The Bounty".
Are we going to to get another Connie refit for the Enterprise that transforms it back into the TOS version, are we just ignoring it, or......
#I laughed when I saw the New Jersey. “no no the discoprise is how we always were meant to see the enterprise!” and here we are.#I always said that discoprise hologram was a leak from another universe#I love a classic constitution class. TOS version. no bells and whistles. beautiful lines.#maybe all the constitution classes will get the upgrades to the TOS versions and the rest will be “sombra” classes.#Star Trek#consistency? on my star trek?#Star Trek Picard#Star Trek Discovery#PIC#Constitution Class#Discoprise#USS New Jersey#Maps and Legends#The Bounty

This is the bullshit about starting work again, I come home and continue with rubbish like planning plot processes and prioritisation matrixes and production programs and the like, instead of, you know, writing.
#managing the production vs actually “being the producer” brain#its such a different way of thinking I haven't worked out my 'snap brain into that different kind of creative mode again'#The reason I can be satisfied at my job is that I approach all that stuff *as* creative exercises; I create the clarity that does not exist#People blab for 30mins about problems and I doodle on a whiteboard and then they slow down and realise I've drawn their solution map#I *could* have been a consulting business analyst for the requirements definition stuff but detest the software/technologies rigidity part#What I really need is some 15 minute major physical/mental/formic break between work and home to switch brain modes#I do have a 20min powerwalk in there but then I have to do the kid/house so the endorphin benefit towards creative enterprise wears off

periodic reminder that 4thewords is great :) never timed well bc it never occurs to me to say this in november when they offer a month of free subscription time, but! it is making the process of catching up on polychives more satisfying. finishing this chapter is like fighting a literal beast, rather than a metaphorical one, because for $4 a month (or slightly less, I buy the end of year bundle) 4thewords will provide Beasts
#writing#polychives au#ink post#it's possible they offer trial periods other times of year but i dont remember#not digging up my referral code but if you do want to try them using it will award us both perks in game#it's like. 80-90% great. the not great is slight jank on mobile/during site updates you get with any smallish enterprise#and also a definitely non-zero amount of orientalism. not equipped to estimate how much?#bc i've been stalled on the main quest for a while lol. and have been in the Orientalism Zone of the map for a while#basically any white author fantasy doorstopper with a 'desert' culture/country/etc if you need a ballpark#yknow the scarves/veils genre of Sexy Woman in visual media? she's here as a monster which isn't NOT stigmatizing#but i'm not equipped to make the call on like. how bad it is. bc my knowledge ends at spotting a Likely Yikes scene dressing#you fight 'good' or friendly characters as monsters but theyre usually specifically 'infected' when humanoid#whereas this may or may not be the case. i think theyre directly affiliated with the big bad/its army iirc#and it mostly seems p bad bc like. they're quite good with most other representation boxes.#pride month events textually queer characters visibly disabled characters as cool mentor types etc#so the weak areas feel more grating

Very interesting + concise article, pertinent with how much I've seen the joke about that "sadness in his eyes you only see in east european gay porn". Warning for pretty much everything you can expect.
Describing the wave of Eastern European gay pornography that flooded the US market following the dissolution of the USSR, Jones said: “They were products of a crude imperialist enterprise: cheap and nasty looking, with an atmosphere of coercion and cultural misunderstanding pervading them. Customers adored these videos, and expressed their breathless admiration whenever given the chance”
It gets pretty rough from here onward.
The Fall… opens with a short clip of a young man in profile, undressing. He looks uncomfortable, alternating between staring forward and glancing in the direction of the camera, his eyes showing a mix of discomfort and contempt. Jones’ voiceover states: “even in an unlikely place, it is possible to find traces of recent history” followed by b-roll taken from the aforementioned porn films including maps of the former USSR, market scenes, beggars and street footage. Their purpose in the aforementioned films appears to be part exoticism and part poverty fetishism, attempting to show the former glory of the Eastern nations as an emphasis on their subsequent fall. They’re an essential part of the set-up, speaking directly to what made this genre of pornography appealing to a western, primarily American, market. It’s easy to comprehend the mixture of exploitation and exoticism that made these videos popular in the US, but Jones goes further, aiming to establish a firm link between the booming Western economy and a more global, less visible form of exploitation.
The latter half of the film compounds the atmosphere of coercion, focusing specifically on the casting and screen tests of performers. The voice from behind the camera probes the subject on their sexual preferences, their motivations for being filmed: “I’m doing it for the money” “That’s a very good reason” Western audiences were turned on by the idea that the performers were under some form of duress—the ostensibly straight man either consuming their sexuality through the guise of pornography, or in the case of several scenes, the performer showing visible discomfort at either the sex or the presence of the camera. The films are low budget, low production value and low brow—by intention, rather than necessity. Jones speculates that the developing Eastern European sex industry, with the influx of Western producers and a Western market in mind, could be seen as an indicator of fertile ground for fascist ideologies—an aspersion confirmed by the global rise of far-right ideologies in tandem with the economic pressure of late-stage capitalism, a point at which more contemporary comparisons can be made.
The brief conclusion on the contemporary form of this exploitation aesthetic is also noteworthy:
In the same way that the fall of communism was exploited by the West, the financial and social insecurity of a generation living in recession, under permanent austerity, is exploited now. The aesthetics utilised in Jones’ film are still broadly present, albeit perhaps in a slightly altered form, now accompanied by a new visual language born from a culture numb to being told to “like, comment, share and subscribe”.

Hi!
As some of you might know, southern Brazil, specifically the state of Rio Grande do Sul, has been struck by heavy rains and a consequential flood. The rains started on monday (29/abr) and only stopped today (5/mai), in Porto Alegre ─ the state capital, and the city i live in ─ and in the other cities nearby.
The lake that borders PoA (named Guaíba) has reached more than 5m up its normal level. This is higher than on the historic 1941 flood. The city's center ─ a big residential and commercial hub, beyond being the host of most of our public services (such as the city hall and the state government) ─ is completely taken by the water. Many other neighbourhoods were also affected.
Smaller cities that also border Guaíba were even more heavily affected, such as Eldorado do Sul, whose territory was almost 100% flooded.
The state is, for a lack of a better word, abandoned by the people that were supposed to aid.
Our governor, Eduardo Leite, is more worried about his plitical campaign ─ making dramatic videos, changing his facebook pfp to one of him with a public defense vest, making streams with no useful information ─ than with the people's lives. This year, he destinated only R$50.000 (~ USD250.000) for the Civil Defense. For the entire year. He is now, delegating the responsibility of recuperating our state to the Federal Government, stating that "the rbuilding of the RS will demand a Marshall Project".
Porto Alegre's mayor, Sebastião Mello, has vanished. He sold our city out to big enterprises ─ Melnick, Zaffari and Panvel, mainly ─, and hasn't destined any public resources to maintaining the Mauá wall (a wall built after the 1941 flood with a system made to protect the city from other floods), which caused many points to fail and the water to invade the city.
This is the danger we all face with a neoliberal system.
Neoliberalism is an individualist ideology. All these people and companies I named did close to nothing to help us. Or even made it worse. The Civil Defense, for example, published a map of all the areas that would be affected, but had to take it back, since it didn't consider the topography.
Its the people for the people.
This situation is being aided by people using their own resources. Donations of various natures and volunteer work. It is very beautiful, in a way. It shows that colaboration and union can do great things. It shows, at least to me, that the world can reach, one day, a self sustaining way of living, contrary to the ultra-individualistic capitalism some preach. Humans can, and are, good.
But it also lays out how much the people that govern us failed us.
Human lives were lost because of their negligency.
This flood isn't normal. It is a product of the huge levels of degradation multi-billionaire companies are causing the world, supported by higher class and their representatives. Eduardo Leite changed almost 500 points of our state's Environmental Code, for the worst, when he was first elected in 2019. His actions, and the actions of all other neoliberal politicians, such as our ex-president Bolsonaro, are what created this situation. They are responsible for everything that is going on here.
This flood isnt the only environmental crisis this state has faced in the last 6 months. This isn't the last one that will happen.
This text is, beyond a personal vent, a warning. We need to keep fighting against a system that is actively trying to kill us. Please, do not support ideals and people ─ especially if said people will rule you ─ that go against the environment, that preach that the capital, the money, the posesions, are more important than lives. Of the people, of the animals, of the environment. Fight for a better world, i know there can be one.
Always be aware of the climate in your areas. Things like this won't happen only here. Please be safe.
Sorry for the long post.
If you're interested in donating, @decaf-lesbian made this post with some links for international and national donations.
-> If you're from Brasil, check this link, that has a copilation of maps of risk areas, shelters, places to donate to, etc, made by a UFRGS student.
