my 2023 year in review (data/stats/numbers)
this year, mental illness kicked my ass until it didn't (when fabba came back), and then about a week ago, it started kicking my ass again. i wish i had spent more of the year escaping into art. 2023 was the first year in a while, i feel, that has had this low numbers.
part of that is because my special interest in the 2000s emo scene was reawakened by fob's return, so much of my year was spent re-obsessing over them. rediscovering a bunch of music that made me happy ages 12-15, a time period full of suicidal ideation. my suicidal thoughts and impulses were slain, once again, by the fabbaboos like champions in an arena. 'are you not entertained?' and all that.
(the only 're-'s i am counting are film re-watches, so no album re-listens are counted in that. so a bunch of the stuff i did this year is not being counted! i actually listened to a lot more music than i have catalogued here, i just don't personally log re-listens in my physical media log, so they aren't counted here.)
another part of this is that i spent so much of the year working on my own projects, working on myself, and trying to manage my mental illnesses. i quit drugs and wanting to kill myself! i'm learning spanish! i'm graduating in a few months! this is not an apology; i just prefer to do a lot more stuff to distract me from all the horribleness in my life </3.
this is a (hopefully) complete-ish log of stuff i did this year bc i like number and data and keeping logs because i have an intense, immense fear of lack of permanence/forgetting/losing things because i have lost and forgotten so much stuff in my life 😁😁😁
this is going to get long, so i'm putting it under a cut.

How many times did Steve and Reece kill each other really??
I found it funny how often Steve accused Reece of killing him in all their episodes while watching interviews a few years ago and so decided to collect the data on it myself!! As the show is now finished and I got around to adding the final season to my spreadsheet I figured I would share it! So here it is:
Tumblr media
As you can see a Reece character murdered a Steve character 9 times throughout the show while Steve murdered Reece 6 times!! So while Reece does win it is by a small margin!
Also generally he committed more murders, killing 21 people to Steve's 12 whilst getting murdered 16 times opposed to Steve's count of 19!
Some bonus data I collected is that there are 91 deaths across the entire show (and 6 fake/not real ones, think nine lives kat or devil of christmas), 38 episodes have at least one on screen death, 5 episodes end with an implied death and only 12 episodes have no death at all!! (btw I’ve added the table that I got this data from in another reblog for people who may be interested!)

did you know that I nearly lost this cover, because Grim jumped onto my laptop, got her leg caught on the charging cable, panicked, and essentially body-slammed it onto the floor, leaving herself uninjured but my laptop completely smashed?

Continuation of yesterday while I wait for a process to run...
Shuanshuan thinks he's helping his mysterious new friend who's having trouble moving around on his own, while Yi's just thinking about the Apemen germs and diseases (although I assume it took him a few days to conclude that there was nothing wrong with them).

Thinking about my Penrose prototype mynah and Elster again bc I wanna flesh them out more..
I think I at least have names for them right now!
MHNR 001 is called Kosmos! As a prototype mynah variant built for the Penrose mission the technicians that worked on her affectionately gave her the name. She’s your typical mynah persona but in a smaller frame (still bulky by other replika standards!) and also has some additional ship piloting knowledge uploaded into her memory. Her three primary tasks are to pilot the ship, to mark planets/asteroids/etc that have valuable resources for the nation, and to extract some of those resources.
Btw Her favorite plush (they let her bring some for stabilization! They don’t take up too much space!) is a dinosaur with a grumpy expression. It reminds her of her new Elster friend :]
LSTR 001 was dubbed “Dorredt” by Kosmos because according to the mynah calling her 001 was boring, and while trying to think of a name she misread a package and came up with Dorredt. Elster doesn’t care if it means Kosmos will stop bugging her about potential names. She’s your typical elster, quiet, serious, and maybe a little awkward! Her duties involve anything involving ship repair/maintenance and land survey. Her and Kosmos both tend to the Penrose ship’s garden but Dorredt is better at handling the plants due to her less clunky build.
Her favorite spot to be alone is the storage area, sometimes she just sits there and reads the labels on items for fun. There’s other things she could do too but not a lot was provided for her specifically..

my 2024 reading wrapped.
in 2024, i actually set a reading goal since i felt like i didn't read enough in 2023, or, at the very least, i read less than i would normally. so i set myself an initial goal of 12 books, one for each month, and quickly reached it. then 15, 20, and 25. i reached 25 exactly!
this is me counting down some of my favorite books i read in 2024, and a couple of least favorites, too. plus a most read authors graph at the end bc i love charts and graphs.
under cut.
-
books read: 25, equaling 4793 pages, according to the storygraph.
-
top ten best books, loosely ordered:
on the road by jack kerouac (my rating: 4.5-5/5).
i too am kind of in love with dean moriarty.
the dharma bums by jack kerouac (my rating: 4.5-5/5).
pretty much where i'm at in life atm.
none of this rocks by joe trohman (my rating: 4.5/5).
sometimes joe's self-deprecation is more saddening or tedious than funny, but it's still a deeply funny and touching autobiography throughout. i was prepared for the heavier subject matter, but g-d. it still hits so hard.
fall out toy works #3 by pete wentz and co. (my rating: 4.5/5).
genuinely beautiful.
lady windemere's fan by oscar wilde (my rating: 4.5/5).
honestly wasn't expecting this one to sweep me off my feet like it did? so funny and so relevant, still, today.
the boy with the thorn in his side by pete wentz (my rating: 4.5/5).
beautifully grotesque art and beautifully grotesque story.
genuinely unsettling and disturbing. it's been a while since anything had really scared me like this one did. (the doctor character is what scared me, iymk.)
pete takes this insecure tone throughout that is. very understandable and relatable, from one artist to another, when dealing with such personal subject matter. i don't think i can rate it negatively or ax off any points for that, but it is worthy of note since i feel like it's part of the experience of this book to be discomfited by him while reading it.
while i do appreciate the raw (read: unedited) vibe of this book, some of the grammatical errors took me out a little at times.
fall out toy works #5 by pete wentz and co. (my rating: 4.5/5).
like much of this series, a bit hard to follow at times (and that is coming from me, the king of nonsense and openendedness), but that kinda works in favor of the setting/universe.
i love tiffany.
the importance of being earnest by oscar wilde (my rating: 4.5/5).
this book had me ROLLING !!!!
genuinely love how everything wrapped up here.
so mecore all around i love causing my own problems.
fall out toy works #1 by pete wentz and co. (my rating: 4.5/5).
the first couple pages are just really well done.
great introduction to a series i all-around really love.
sailor moon, vol. 2 by naoko takeuchi (my rating: 4/5).
beautiful art.
i think i prefer the manga to the anime? the manga is a bit more serious/dramatic and romantic and i really dig that for these characters.
-
worst books of the year:
i only have two picks for my worst books of 2024 since these were the only two that i rated lower than a 3.5/5.
mexican gothic by silvia moreno-garcia (my rating: 2.5/5 (just barely)).
i say with zero exaggeration that this is one of the most frustrating, boring slogs i've ever had the displeasure of sitting through. instead of wasting my time again, here's my full review.
star wars: aftermath (#1) by chuck wendig (my rating: light 3/5).
i picked this up because pw showed it off in a video (not necessarily an endorsement, i know, but i was already contemplating giving it a go and that was the push i needed) and i want to make fun of him/talk with him about it now. has he even read it or did he just happen to have it with him at the time. i don't know. i know i am insane.
so slow. the first chapter was alright and then it just gets so fucking boring and unfunny. i get that it's trying to build tension and flesh things out, but it doesn't do either of those things especially well, either, so it just feels like a big waste of time.
act 3 was actually pretty great and fun! took it long enough, but it finally did get good!
tries so hard to be funny. the colloquial 'star wars-y' language here is mostly just grating. i have such a high tolerance for sw bullshit but this felt like the author is trying to be a star wars nerd instead of just is being a star wars nerd. it made me laugh less than three times and made me groan probably closer to fifty times.
i did really like the ex-imperial dude (of course) and was rooting somewhat for the rag-tag squad by the end. most of the characters (eventually) held my attention.
i get it, he's only 15 years. but that little teenage boy is a major cunt. this book occasionally does succeed, later on, at making me feel for him but g-d. i hated following this kid for most of the book. i'm not even talking, really, about how he treats his mother. his attitude in general was just frustrating as fuck to be forced to sit through to get to the better characters.
-
my most read authors, according to the storygraph (aka my formal diagnosis):
Tumblr media
pete wentz won with a unit of seven, clocking in five units ahead of the runners up. i really like him.

going through my tumblr drafts today and the category of posts can be neatly sorted into four categories:
me complaining about chronic illness symptoms
half written media analysis that i give up halfway through because i realize i have no idea what i'm talking about but like. there's something there.
half written media analysis that i give up halfway through because i realize posting my take is a little bit too controversial/overly negative for this blog.
well written opinion pieces on social issues that i spend hours writing before going "eh... i don't want to get hate anons for the controversial opinions that all hatred & bigotry is bad, people are really susceptible to bias & conspiratorial thinking, and the world is much more complicated than anyone thinks"

🌙 Master Jedi Lena's 2024 Blog Stats 🌙
Soo I kinda sorta love data (a girl after Tech's own heart? 😅) Last year I did a deep-dive into my posts from that year, and now I've done it again for 2024! I have no expectations of anyone reading and/or caring about this. I'm just making this post for my own curiosity 😇
Tumblr media
✨ Number of Posts: 101 (-40% from 2023)
Drabbles: 30
Fic Chapters: 1
Headcanons: 34
Images: 1
One shots: 12
Polls: 33
Rec Lists: 4
Thoughts/Misc: 5
✨ Words written: 44,676 (-46% from 2023)
Longest: Handcuffed (4,802 words)
Shortest: "Should've brought more explosives" (44 words)
✨ Poll votes: 10,524 (+63% from 2023)
✨ Reblogs: 1,456 (+32% from 2023)
✨ Month with the most posts: February - 29 posts (same month as 2023 and with +1 more post!)
✨ Month with the least posts: September - 1 post (that tracks, I got hit with a bad bout of depression that month)
✨ Top 5 posts by notes:
"Like this post if you're a Star Wars writer" misc post (426 notes)
How many canon Star Wars movies/shows have you seen? poll (372 notes)
Favorite Star Wars Character - Gs poll (180 notes)
Favorite Star Wars Character: Winners of the A-K Polls poll (175 notes)
Favorite Star Wars Character - Ns and Os poll (169 notes)
✨ Milestones:
Feb 14: 3 year blog anniversary 🥉
Mar 13: 5,000 reblogs 💞
✨ Misc Stats:
48% were requests, 47% were my inspiration, and 6% were prompts (events and "OC Sundays").
5 NSFW posts (1 more than 2023).
In July, I started to intentionally read/reblog a lot more, resulting in an 80% decrease in my own posts.
One interesting takeaway I have in comparing the years is that while the amount I wrote/posted decreased (almost halved), the amount of interaction I received in replies and reblogs increased (about a third). Overall notes were still lower due to decreased likes, but I received more meaningful notes across fewer posts... that's pretty awesome!
✨ Personal Favorites:
Take Me Out one shot/fic exchange... This was a story concept I had in mind for a long time and finally got an opportunity to breathe it to life with a fic exchange event. I just love it so much.
Ready or Not one shot... I feel kinda sappy over this fic. It's a little different in tone, and it's one of the few endings I've written that I actually love (I struggle to end one shots, IDK why).
Drabbles... I wrote more short stories and blurbs this year, and they were a lot of fun! Especially The Presence of Absence, made myself cry on that one.
Virgin!reader choose-your-own-one shot... Writing three smutty one shots all at once was a tough challenge. I'm proud of the work I put into filling this prompt, even if the stories didn't get much love from others.
My reading challenge... Seeing so many complaints from the lack of interaction on people's writings got me thinking about my own role in the fandom. It didn't feel right for me to bemoan low reblogs on my stories when I myself never bothered to reblog from others. So I created a little system and got to reading! As a result, I feel more connected to a community and cherish the comments I do get rather than the ones I don't.
Tumblr media
And with that, I say au revoir to 2024 and bonne année to 2025 ☀️ I have some lofty ideas for what I want to do with my blog this year. If I can just keep a handle on my depression this time around. 🤞
