Reading TGCF: Chapter Eleven

For those who don't know, I am reading TGCF for the first time and sharing my thoughts!

If you have not read it, there will be spoilers! Consider this a warning.

You know what, if all else fails, Xie Lian would make an excellent motivational speaker. "I want to save the common people" "Do what you think is right" "Nothing can block your way" The cutest little "hang in there" cat poster embodied. p361

"those were good words" poor baby flustered xie lian. He cannot handle a single sincere compliment from Hua Cheng. The pillow talk in this chapter is so dang cute! p367

Here I am reading these words and lowkey hoping that it was Hua Cheng who Xie Lian told to "live for him". My biggest question at this point in the series is why/when/how did Huan Cheng become so into Xie Lian. It feels like he's known this guy for a very long time. p368 (do not actually tell me this. it'll probably be revealed later, but with Xie Lian, unreliable narrator, I feel like it'll be right before the extras LOL).

I was NOT wrong, but it was in a very unexpected way! I expected tragedy and I got the cutest fucking pillow talk, a PROMISE and a RING. WHAT.

I've got a bone to pick with all of y'all! How come the fandom representation of Fulgrim is so damn empty compared to his actual novel depiction!? Why did no one tell me about all the people on his damn ship pre heresy?!?!?

All anyone ever talks about with Fulgrim is the hee hoo slaanesh primearch, or the smug artist boy. But no one has mentioned that the first description of his eyes is that they're friendly. Or that he's introduced in his horus heresy novel by walking in and gently asking a wonderful musician to continue her concert after a noble disrespected her. I know about all the creepy and horrible shit. But why did none of you ever mention he's absolutely sweet?!?!?

CRYING ABOUT THIS ACTUALLY.... DO YOU KNOW THE IMPLICATION OF THIS.... realistically, one of the first words of babies are referring to their mothers and the last "true parent" that held Silver was his mother, Princess Leia, but here baby Silver called out for his father, and Lilia didnt taught him that😭

Now these words might be calling out to Lilia now, but I'm also thinking since TWST is a world where babies can recall words or songs they heard even when theyre "not concious yet", I was thinking baby Silver heard this word when he was still with Dawn 😭😭😭 Imagine Dawn holding this baby and guiding him to speak his first words like "papa"... and thats like Dawn's last moment with Silver... AAAAA 😭😭😭😭

since this was still infant Silver, I was thinking this memory occured when Silver was adopted by Lilia only a week or months ago 😭✨ so its still possible that baby silver was reacting based on his past (which can potentially be baby Silver is remembering Dawn through Lilia in this scene)

It is honestly terrifying how they try and justify the mockery of the RiverClan refugees by going " Well nothing violent happened to them so this is them choosing to go home "

It's like getting a clear view into the writing teams brain, their true thoughts on the subject they're portraying, and it makes me sick. ( not saying the writing team hasn't had a /lot/ of scenes like this one in the past, DotC is full of them )

Like idk if they can justify this as just the characters anymore, this is just straight up writing team bigotry shining through, and the only small hope I have is hoping the writing team hasn't actually had the experience of tormenting people so much they've fled the land they fled /to/

No, I agree. I think the longer I sit on it, the more disturbing it gets to me. Especially with the way the "wind is blowing," politically.

At what point do you stop calling it bad writing in an attempt to be charitable? Advanced incompetence has become indistinguishable from malice here. The text flatly says that it's fine behavior, not alarming at all, for two refugees to get harassed into "choosing" to go back to somewhere unsafe.

It's framed like a climactic moment, even. Sunbeam agreeing with Fernstripe shows that she does "truly belong here." Unlike those other immigrants who are just "exploiting" the code.

I can't know what's in the heads or hearts of the writing team at Coolabi. But it sure does start to make a lot of sense when you connect the dots of jilted character dialogue to deliver xenophobic messages, consistent emphasis on birth blood and nation over chosen bonds, and sheer dedication to authority, and draw a picture that The Writers Really Mean It.
