Old news but the fact that Cody was manager at hot topic is so unexplored in fandom. Like he wasn't some shithead employee he was the boss Entry level retail workers are so rarely promoted to manager nowadays, like, was Cody just that good at selling/managing the store? Also, managers make good money. Okay, haha, it's a hot topic, but store managers make like 70,000$ a year (CAD). They have health insurance. So Cody was actually doing pretty well. It's kinda weird to pretend he was on the same level as his friend with just a standard sales associate position, even if that friend was also full-time. Like the power and responsibility that Cody actually had is kind of impressive especially for 28.
AND then! To become a carnie! Like sick move and also Cody lost all his money anyway but the financial disparity! Was Murph probably thinking of like an assistant manager position which would make more sense with Cody's vibe? Probably. Is it funnier to imagine that Cody had to make sales reports to corporate and design store planograms? Absolutely.
Cody was management.
#Cody Walsh#the unsleeping city#dimension 20#Also reading the manager job ad for hot topic is very funny. They are trying so hard to be Relatable and it's Not Working#This is part of my headcanon/AU where Cody realizes that becoming the Jersey Devil means he inherits a bunch of minions and instead of bein#rad it becomes a logistical hell except Cody remembers he's a manager actually and creates a demonic employee shift schedule and a demonic#employee handbook called the Book of Infernal Deeds (ie the tasks employees have to do) and Cody starts to like make spreadsheets to track#how much infernal mayhem is being caused to see where they're being inefficient and everyone is so COMPLETELY BAFFLED both by this random#tone change AND the fact that Cody is good at it AND the fact that it's getting results and the mini devils are actually a lot happier now#that they have clear job tasks and vacation days and structures and so they're more motivated to work when they are working and they love#Cody a little but Cody doesn't even REALIZE that a) he's doing anything weird b) that it works c) that this is a specialized learned skill#the idea that Cody's greatest contribution to the infernal machinery is being a good middle manager would horrify him but it's SO funny

A perk of working at Petsmart, is that sometimes you get free animals lol.
A couple came in yesterday and said they found these two dudes left at an airport, and they didn’t know what to do so they brought them to us. Petsmart isn’t allowed to take in surrendered animals (cause corporate sucks ass) but if an employee is willing to take the animal in, they can.
And I’m me, so that’s exactly what I did lmao.
The blue shelled one is name Eugene and the greenish shelled one is named Shelldon and I love them.
-
Yes, I’m aware the shells they have are toxic due to the paint! I have other shells in there with them so they can switch shells if they want to.
The tank is a 20 gallon long with a mix of playsand and coco fiber soil, they have fresh and salt water and places to hide and climb.
This was extremely short noticed, so I had to work with what I had for now, but they are definitely in good hands :)
#not mh related#hermit crabs#petsmart employee#my manager had no idea what to do with them so I was like ‘I’m down to take some hermit crabs’ and they gave them to me lol#sometimes I really love my job

Thinks abt my lob corp nuggets oh so hard. I may only have second hand half remembered knowledge of project moon worldbuilding but I will still forever obsess over my lil guys who suck absolute ass
#rat rambles#oc posting#I <3 women who are just straight up bad people#this is mostly abt my girl yuri but its also abt my girl juliet#yuri is well. she's certainly smth.#she's very fascinated in psychology and in particular the psychology behind abnormalities#and it is for this reason that shes in disciplinary#for most of her life one of the things that had facinated her most is the mind'd reaction to pain and suffering#so she finds suppressing abnormalities to be very fun and interesting#her girlfriend maxy certainly has an interesting perspective on this aspect of yuri to but it kindly#maxy has a lot of self loathing mostly relating to how numb shes become to everything and how unatural it is for her to care abt stuff#so she sees yuri as a far better person than she is because she still manages to care and be passionate abt things#she deeply admires and loves yuri and feels like she doesnt deserve yuri's affection#maxy is also the only person that I say yuri genuinely cares abt on a personal level#most of the time even ppl yuri rly likes arent safe from her morbid curiosity but she genuinely cares abt maxy's wellbeing#now juliet is generally a lot less extreme than yuri but shes still not great#juliet and her bestie loki both are genuinely very invested in the cause and goals of lob corp which is the first red flag#but juliet is the more noteworthy of the two actions wise because she actually interacts with fellow employees#she was among the first employees here and while she comes off as friendly and nice she takes her job incredibly seriously and doesn't fuck#around when it comes to productivity levels#she generally respects malkuth a lot more than any of the other robots and actively dislikes most of the others#most newbies tend to like her because of her being one of the few higher ranking employees thats friendly and welcoming but most that make#it longer term tend to realize quick that she doesn't care abt any of them#but whats often worse than her not caring abt you is her seeing potential in you#if she sees potential in someone she will make it very clear and do everything in her power to help them realize that potential#one of my other higher ranking guys mason very much hates juliet because of that exact situation#mason rly didnt know what she was getting into when she got hired at lob corp and mostly worked with the much softer abnos for her first#while at the job until she was thrown into the deep end to work on censored#most of the other higher level employees at the time wouldnt be able to make it through a work session with censored but she was#barely. but it was enough that juliet took notice of her and decided that maybe this guy was worth keeping around afterall

my controversial opinion is that the risk of discovery and consequences for a business that edits timesheet data should be greater than the consequences for the business for just admitting the scheduling error and paying the overtime that results.
#the employment regs that say employees who don’t get their meal break get overtime are there so we get a goddamn meal break#they are not a creative timesheet editing challenge#the administrative “burden” of “fixing the timesheet” is not the major concern here#your real human being employee spent 7+ hours continuously working or driving between work sites#anyway my first full day of work (zero notice sick cover) was enlightening#I managed to stay hydrated and wasn’t involved in or the cause of any fatigue related incidents so I’m taking it as a win#I should write down my notes from the post-shift phone call with the boss while I’m still freshly irritated though#love to be told after the fact that I didn’t have access to the info that the office holds that could have saved me getting lost en route#not that it would have made a difference to my meal break situation because I am certain that it was not factored in to my schedule to star#but I love to be gently scolded for not knowing things I couldn’t possibly know and “not taking my break” that couldn’t possibly be taken#due to the prioritisation of administrative fraud we will never discuss this again and learn absolutely nothing from it as an organisation#👍

During the 2007 hearings on Capitol Hill, workers testified about being left to die by the tracks while railroad managers ignored pleas for care. The 2008 update to the Federal Railroad Safety Act required the companies to provide “prompt medical attention” and mandated that railroads bring injured workers to the hospital as soon as they ask.
About five years after the harrowing congressional testimony, outside Chicago, a supervisor was driving a Union Pacific machine operator, Jared Whitt, to the hospital. Whitt’s lips felt as if they were about to burst and his arms and legs tingled, he testified as part of a lawsuit he later filed. He closed his eyes and thought about his five kids. Was he dying? “Please,” he recalled telling his manager: “Get me there. Please hurry.”
Whitt had suffered a heat stroke as June temperatures climbed to about 100 degrees, and his manager, work equipment supervisor Dave Birt, believed Whitt was going into cardiac arrest, Birt said in his deposition. They had just started toward the hospital when Birt’s cellphone rang. “Well,” Whitt heard Birt say, “what do you want me to do?” A pause. “I’m no doctor, but when a man’s arms are numb and tingling, I’d say he needs to go see one.” Pause. “I’m pulling over.”
Birt held the phone to Whitt’s ear. Whitt couldn’t hold it himself because his numb arms had retracted, his fists clenched at the top of his chest, Whitt said in his pretrial deposition. The man on the other end was Birt’s boss, manager of track programs Talmage Dalebout. “Why don’t we just bring you back here to the job site and get you cooled down,” Whitt recalled Dalebout saying. “If you get cooled down, you’ll probably be OK.” Birt declined to comment when reached by ProPublica. Dalebout didn’t respond to calls, texts and social media messages.
Union Pacific claims in the lawsuit that Whitt never requested to be taken to the hospital and, when Birt says he asked, Whitt chose the job site. But experts say workers suffering from heat stroke —a potentially life-threatening condition marked by confusion in which body temperatures can rise to 106 degrees — lack the faculties to make any decision for themselves; someone should always take them to the hospital regardless of what a worker requests. In hindsight, Birt said later in deposition, he wished they had continued to the hospital.
#there are two stories in this article about workers experiencing severe heat-related illness being denied medical care#the broader points here about how railroads respond to worker injury are important on their own but i worry particularly about heat injury#the standards for heat exposure we have are weak; the general understanding of the danger of heat exposure is weak; the risks are growing#heat stroke can kill you & if it doesn't it can leave you with nerve & tissue damage. that's what happened to these workers.#the thing about occupational safety is that no matter what injury numbers you are looking at they are an undercount#but it's worse when you have immense & targeted pressure on employees to avoid reporting injury#railroads fire injured workers & managers who report injuries. but trust the industry: ''railroad culture is safety culture''!

It comes as no surprise to me that anti self-checkout people are the most annoying, self-righteous pricks and are often some of the biggest cunts to deal with as an employee.
#what a weird fucking hill to die on#they legit think they're oh so morally superior#give me a fucking break#they see one self checkout machine and have a meltdown on employees and managers#not related to my usual stuff#i thought it was just boomers on Facebook who were like this#there's idiots on tumblr like it too#last post for tonight#its late

It is hard to focus on being sad and anxious when you have gotten to pet 7 (seven) new cats in one day in exchange for baked goods, 5 (five) which were long hair, and 3 (three) which were MAINE COONS.
#still processing work related grief because current employees are meeting with CEO to try and get the clinical director fired#but talked with another former employee and management is really so toxic at this point#i don't know if the site will ever really recover#it was just a whole mess#and i learned even MORE crap management did while the union negotiating was going on#like claim they'd met with the union reps when they ghosted them#also roommate says he wants to get a dog when we eventually move into a house which i am Not Thrilled With#admittedly that probably won't happen for a decade at this rate but I don't like dogs and he doesn't clean anything#speaking of need to remember to reclean the soup pot he cleaned tomorrow because there's still gunk on the bottom

shoutout to my supervisor though. I started eating my lunch at my desk and he appeared remarkably quickly and was like "how are you doing taking breaks? i know when i started i often found it hard to take breaks." like ok that's...not subtle but thank you nonetheless
#why yes tim I do know I'm allowed to take breaks actually#Still good to hear though#Like genuinely. Including the relatable framing it was nice to not have to say I'm just feeling awkward today#That all said. It was also very funny to be so transparently managed lmao#How to set healthy workplace norms and tell your employee to take breaks as gently as possible: a guide#And for the reader: Although I still finished lunch at my desk I took a nice little walk in the sunshine later in the afternoon#And I am resolved to have a proper away from my desk lunch break at least the rest of the month to try to set good habits haha
