you'll never convince me that empathy's a real thing, what happens is you see a person in a bad situation and imagine being in their place so you put yourself in a bad mood too, you're not "absorbing or sharing their emotions" you're just making their bad situation about you and assuming they feel the same way as your imaginary self in your imaginary scenario, and you may get it right sometimes but without any guarantee exactly because there's no actual connection between the two emotional states

A guide to NPD for anyone who doesn't understand it!

What is NPD?

NPD, or narcissistic personality disorder, is a mental illness in the cluster B personality disorder category.

NPD usually stems from childhood abuse or other unhealthy childhood situations. In my case, abuse.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms of NPD include an unstable sense of self, prioritizing yourself, having unstable relationships, having low/no empathy, and depression/self hatred.

These can be improved upon, but disordered thoughts will likely remain for most.

Can pwNPD have healthy relationships?

Yes, with effort and work. Plenty can have healthy and successful relationships. (like me, for example, in a loving relationship with my boyfriend)

We have a to be a bit more aware of how we treat others, but it helps when both the person with NPD and the partner set boundaries with each other. With communication, we can be great partners.

And yes, we can feel love and care about our partner(s). Empathy ≠ love. Empathy ≠ compassion.

Why does the term "Narcissistic abuse" harm pwNPD?

Because of the name, anything said about "narcissists" is also associated with us, even if you weren't talking about NPD. If you were, that's just blatant ableism.

Many of also call ourselves narcissists either just as a descriptor or to reclaim it.

Other terms like emotional abuse, gaslighting, and plenty others describe the same thing without ableist roots. Please, speak out about your abuse, but avoid using ableist terms.

But my therapist/psychiatrist uses the term "narcissistic abuse," how can it be ableist?

Sadly, ableism isn't that uncommon from medical professionals. Plenty use terms like "narcissistic abuse" and other ableist terms.

Why not just advocate to change the name of NPD?

Even if the name changed, it would still be ableist. We have another cluster B disorder that got a name change that we can look to for example of what happens.

You used to be able to be clinically diagnosed as a "psychopath," which has since been changed to ASPD. However, people still use the terms "psychopath" and "sociopath" to refer to ASPD. All the stigma around those words still applies to them.

I imagine similar would happen if we changed the name of NPD. It wouldn't matter, we'd still be called narcissists. And the term would still be ableist because it would still hurt us.

The Just World Theory is a pattern in which people convince themselves that those who are suffering did something to bring it upon themselves in order to avoid feeling bad for them.

It's one of the most evil patterns in existence. Every injustice that has ever existed was able to continue because of the Just World Theory.

And the Just World Theory requires empathy. Someone without empathy would have no use for the Just World Theory. They wouldn't have to play mind games with themself in order to stop feeling bad for others because they already don't feel bad for others to begin with.

So enough about the idea that empathy equals good person. Every injustice in the world is caused by people with empathy.

Of course I feel good when people show kindness and love to me, what were you expecting? I'm sorry for having a healthy and caring bond with an amazing person lol.

You are annoyed if I'm "evil" (exactly what do you base on saying that I'm evil, if you don't know me at all?) and you're annoyed if I'm being nice. What do you want me to do exactly? To die?

It is impossible to argue in a civilized and coherent way with the self-proclaimed "empaths".

The hypocrisy of empaths is ironic

They boast about advocating for humans who have been hurt while also boasting about how because they have dated or were raised by those with a Cluster B Personality Disorder that automatically makes them "experts" on said disorder

How is that not being on the same egotistical level empaths claim to be against as well just because you dated or were raised by one with a Cluster B Disorder does not make you an expert on the disorder as not all with a Cluster B Disorder are the same as your experience

If you truly understand and can emotionally connect then your so called "empathy" would also be towards those with the disorder

You want to claim those with NPD, BPD, ASPD, HPD all traumatize people? Then look to see who created the disorder. Look to see who created the monsters. Look to see those with the disorder are traumatized as well

You empaths want to view those with Cluster Bs as abusive ignoring the fact they were once abused and still being abused by society because of aggression, lack of empathy, the need for attention, black and white thinking, etc....

You empaths only see trauma in a certain way, and how dare someone not be traumatized in a way you expect them

Cluster B Personality Disorders are disorders stem from trauma of various kinds. Neglect, abandonment, abuse, harsh environments, believing it's "normal", etc...if I were to describe a trauma response for Cluster Bs it would be Fight

Lacking empathy does not mean those with the disorder lack human decency. It may take time cause of the disorder to come to an understanding hurting others is wrong however many with Cluster B Disorders are trying and you empaths sure are making it easy for many to just say

"What's the point"

Today I saw somebody ask a creator to talk about "dark empaths" in the comments of their video about NPD. (Narcissists/Narcissism whateva)

One of these things is made up bs the other is a psychiatric disorder you can actuslly be diagnosed with.

Where's the empath section of the DSM V I haven't seen it?
