So I just finished the Stormlight Archive, and I love it! It’s awesome, great world building, interesting magic system, lovable interesting character. However, something I’ve noticed sometimes, emotional beats are skipped over and only mentioned to have been dealt with retroactively. Some examples:

Spoilers through Rhythm of War

In RoW:

We don’t see Shallan’s reunion with Testament. We only see after.

In the same chapter we find out that at some point Adolin and Shallan find out that Uratheru was invaded, occupied, and then freed.

At the trial we find out that Adolin knew about Kaladin’s near betrayal. I assume that means all the Kholin’s know, but when and how? Did Elhokar know that there was a time his hero really believed the world would be better off without him?

This one I get bc of the time jump btw Oathbringer and Rhythm of War, but Adolin and Renarin finding out that Dalinor killed their mother Evi.

Maybe it’s just me but I think Kal deserved some more awe and excitement from his friends at achieving the fourth ideal?

Again this happened in the time jump but a more full reunion btw Kaladin and his family. Bc we get one in Oathbringer, but like that’s kinda a “hi, Im alive, I’m a radiant, there’s a new desolation, gotta go”, verses where they are at the beginning of RoW. There’s definitely be a good bit of contact since then.

In Oathbringer:

Had Gavinor returned in time for the wedding, why do we only see Kal’s relief that he’s alive? I would have liked to see the Kholin’s’.

Speaking of Kholin reunion’s we only hear about. Jasna and Navani!!!

We completely skip over Kal being locked up again first with friends and then on his own, away from Syl who’s also locked up.

Oh, and I feel like we deserve a conversation between Shallan and Kaladin about Helarand.

This is not a full missing beat, but it would have been nice to see Adolin and Shallan’s wedding. We see the abbreviated heretical ceremony for Dalinor and Navani l, and I think it would have been an interesting contrast to see the tradition ceremony Adolin and Shallan probably had. (On a side note I love that Kal gave Shallan boots, that’s hilarious, but now I do want to know what he gave Adolin)

I feel like it would have been good to see Elhokar mourn his sister.

Adolin’s POV after Shallan and Kal fall into the chasm.

Kal getting through his first proximity to Amoram unless he just avoided him…but I don’t know! We don’t see it, we aren’t even told what he did when he saw Dalinar talking to Amoram. We only know that Amoram doesn’t recognize Kal until after the duel.

Anyway I can’t remember any specific ones in TWoK, but im sure there are some.

LOTS OF PUNK STAMPS! (part 1)

Here we are with another part of music genre stamps. Just like the goth stamps i made, its a "my favorite genre is in this stamp" + aesthetic stamp combo.

Punk genres listed for this batch, because theres so many punk genres

Anarcho-Punk (i.e. Crass, Rudimentary Peni, The Mob, Lost Cherrees)

Celtic Punk - punk + celtic music (i.e. Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly)

Chain Punk - from the meme involving "chain vs egg punk". Has more hardcore punk roots, aggressive

Egg punk - from the meme involving "chain vs egg punk". Quite similar to synth punk due to usage of synths.

Crust punk (i.e. Nausea, Axegrinder, Doom, Deviated Instinct. Aus Rotten)

D-Beat - artwork inspired by those "d beat album covers that has band members censored eyes". Bands like Discharge (where the genre name is from), Anti Cimex, Driller Killer

Emo/Emotional Hardcore (more focused on bands like Rites of Spring, American Football, Jimmy Eat World, and all of those stuff. I'll try to make a different emo stamp for the likes of MCR, Fall Out Boy, and Paramore)

Folk Punk (i.e. Pat the Bunny, Days n Daze, Mischief Brew)

Grindcore - even it's more related to metal. I decided to include here since it was rooted from hardcore punk. Example bands: Napalm Death, Extreme Noise Terror

Digital Hardcore - electronic music + hardcore punk. Some mostly use guitars (i.e. Rabbit Junk) and some will have mostly electronic sounds than guitar (i.e. Machine Girl). Decided to have more cyberpunk aesthetic for this, 'cause it sounds like stuff you play in middle of a fight in a cyberpunk world

Hardcore Punk - apparently "hardcore" can mean different music genres (Beatdown hardcore is one of it but theres also hardcore techno), but lets focus on the punk. Bands like Bad Brains, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, and Minor Threat.

Horror Punk - spooky punk music. (i.e. Blitzkid, Misfits, Calabrese)

Oi! (i.e. Oi Polloi, Angelic Upstarts, Camera Silens)

Punk Rock - supposedly for the classic punk rock sound but stamp can be used for punk rock in general. Example bands: The Clash, Ramones, Sex Pistols

Ska punk (i.e. Operation Ivy, Less than Jake, Against all Authority)

Skate Punk - something you have heard on Tony Hawk pro skater games. Anyway... bands like NOFX, Suicidal Tendencies (also metal), Pennywise

Street Punk (i.e. GBH, Varukers, UK Subs)

Synth Punk (i.e the Screamers, Suicide, Devo)

I did hesitate greatly with Oceandeep by Beast in Black (power metal) because the themes are p similar (could work greatly with sea creature angst) (and unrelated but dang Beast in Black has such a great main vocalist, if you can listen to "blind and frozen" by this band you'll hear pretty much every way he can sing and it surprised me so much the first time I realized it was all the same guy (+ they filmed the MV at the Neuschwanstein ????!)

Music is a big part of inspiration in most (non chibi) art pieces I draw honestly I'm happy to share them even if a bit nervous at the same time-

Oh I realized a thing about the Paul/Feyd-Rautha fight. So usually if you have a big fight scene, but especially if you do something like have a character get injured in a way that would definitely be fatal if they weren't cursed with inescapable Main Character Energy, you follow up the fight scene with some moment of comfort or relief or something, which serves to release the tension for the audience and let them know whew, that was scary, but it's okay now. Your character is hurt but they're gonna survive. (Or alternately, if they're dying heroically, it was worth it and what the narrative demanded.)

But here there's nothing. Paul is surrounded by devoted followers; his mother; his lover; one of his oldest teachers and a loyal servant of House Atreides. No one steps forward to offer a shoulder to lean on or help him to his feet. He's left them all behind. He's not a person who got hurt in a fight anymore; he's a myth that people shrink back from. So he pulls the knife out by himself. He stands up by himself. Other than the emperor very begrudgingly touching his hand to kiss the ring, I don't think anyone touches him at all for the rest of the movie. He's completely alone. They never release that tension, because Paul's alive but it is very much not going to be okay.

Every robin has died once. Except, in this universe, they don't come back. Bruce has already long since hung up the cowl, unable to stand being the Bat after Tim's death, having to bury another child of his own.

When Damian comes along, he thinks he has one last chance, to be an actual dad, to be a good father. When Damian finds his way into the dusty, abandoned Batcave one night, Bruce is horrified.

Because he finds Damian wearing pieces of all the robin suits. Dick's shirt, Jason's gloves, Cass's cape, Barbara's mask, Tim's pants, and Steph's boots. He looks just like all the boy robins, and his hair doesn't help with how he looks like Cassandra.

Damian is only 10, so parts of the suit drape over his body. He looks just like the other robins, Bruce can hardly hold back a choked sob. Damian doesn't understand why Bruce is shaking when looking at him.

"Father? What is wrong?" Damian asks cautiously, head tilted to the side in the same way Dick used to do. Bruce's heart clenches.

"...How did you...find this place? It's sealed off." Bruce answers Damian's question with another, brows furrowing. He made sure any records of this place were destroyed, and that there was no way inside.

Damian looks at Bruce like he's stupid, placing his hands on his hips and looking around.

"They showed me!" Damian says like it's obvious, not explaining who 'they' is. He waves a hand at the empty air around him.

Bruce feels a chill crawl up his spine. "Who's they, Damian?" He regrets asking as soon as it slips from his mouth, the air around them growing even colder.

"The robins!" Damian says with a huff, pouting and crossing his arms over his chest. And suddenly, Bruce is engulfed in warmth. As if he was being hugged from all sides. It's enough to break him.

Ellie, during one of her stints of what do I do with my life right now, decides to, with the help of her Original Dad-Person (Look he’s aging and she’s not and it gets less questions the older he gets if he says daughter instead of sister with how the Fentons are getting older too) creates a Boo-Tube channel. No, not a Youtube channel, those are stuck to a single dimension.

Bootube on the other hand? Due to being through the Realms (and wow is Tucker getting so much income from creating it) is interdimensional. Which is so cool honestly. And she doesn’t know what to do at first, and honestly there’s already so many travel blogs that she kind of just… decided to do something that she wished someone had done for her and her brothers and Danny when she was new to the world. 

So she creates the channel CAAW: Clone Awareness, Accommodations, and Welfare. They had to learn things through trial and error, but maybe she can help someone out there learn how to find their own selves, or even help someone not melt.

Trigun fucking destroys me, okay.

It's about persisting through the most horrific obstacles imaginable, and never losing hope for yourself and others. It's about the fruit your efforts bear, but it doesn't ignore the ugliness of the suffering you endure. It doesn't sweep it under the rug to give you a happy ending.

As a jaded millennial, I get a bit tired of stories where everything turns out fine because the heroes tried hard. Most stories gloss over the repercussions of failure. They tell us it's all simply a means to an end, and that end is what matters. Overcoming your obstacle matters. Winning matters.

Trigun doesn't do this.

Vash gets hurt (gross understatement). He's ostracized, bullied, threatened, haunted, forced to see the darkest underbelly of humanity. He's subjected to the worst parts of life that are grotesquely ruthless, unforgiving, hopeless. He's forced to reconcile a lot of his goals (like never killing anyone), but not the core of his beliefs.

Not once does he falter in his trust that people are capable of good, that we all deserve that chance to be. He never has a revelation that shakes his faith in humanity, despite constantly being given every reason to. He's the irritatingly optimistic anime protagonist who looks at impossible odds and says "everything will be alright", the way no one can in real life because it never works out that way for us.

And it doesn't for him, either.

Vash does his best, believes in himself, and fails. over and over and over again. He loses everything--loved ones, memories, autonomy. He loses constantly. He's your unrealistically positive hero, being dealt realistically unfavorable hands.

And still, he persists. He never truly wins. Because we never truly win. Life has no happy ending like a story does.

He never truly wins, and yet, he can still find happiness. He meets friends, enjoys good food, watches people love fiercely in both blessing and hardship. He hits unbelievable lows that don't keep him from finding highs. Because he never stops trying to be the best of what he sees in humanity. Because every little bit counts. He never stops believing in humans--believing in you.

Trigun grabs you by the face and stares directly at you. It says "I see you, I see your pain, how much you struggle. I see how sometimes no matter how hard you try, things don't work out. Life isn't a fairy tale. I see how your kindness can come back to hurt you, hurt others. I see you, and I'm proud of you. Life is worth living with love in your heart not because we win, but because we try. We all try. Never stop trying to be kind."

Trigun shows you the cruel reality of life, and leaves you feeling good about it.

I don't know a single piece of media that's able to do that.

Seeing it postulated that Zenos' dying wish, his strongest final emotion that shaped the dynamis around him to manifest WoLs transporter- was born of genuine wanting that WoL may yet live on.

Because he showed in his final challenge speech that he finally understood that WoL doesn't want to burn their life for the sake of it, that they still have so much to live for. So in gifting him the end he sought, he gifts us a new beginning in return.
