Despite being a parasitic wolf demon, HABIT absolutely loves cats.

i.e the scene where Noah is teleported to his house. The one.

HABIT is all over that cat the second it's coming up to him. He's calling it "precious", believe me.

But with Slender around? HABIT will bite Slenderman's hand off if he even tries to take more attention from the cat.

Slenderman may be stronger than HABIT, but the purple fucker has sass.

Presumably, he's in Evan's form.

He's gnashing and on all fours if Slenderman tries to take the cat. Feral.

Slenderman tries to impose on HABIT, but really just gives up. Best not to fuck with the demon that's actively trying to break your abilities.

And, has a table full of machetes.

Wait now that emh is on my mind again if habit is still possessing evan does that mean vinnie is also alive? Would habit ever just drop off some of the youngins and force vin to babysit while him and slenderman go do whatever XD

i imagine theyre between iterations right now but habit would definitely pull him out of the candleverse for dumb shit

struck with the sudden inspiration to write an EMH story about the next iteration after the series ends.

Never written fanfic in my life but hear me out ok

the EMH iteration ends with Vinny realizing he's the Voyeur and putting down the camera so progress is already being made for slenderman to be weaker in the next loop. Also, the Godkiller knife exists now and despite Habit's intentions for it, if it can kill "unstoppable" Evan it can probably kill slenderman too.

So once the newly iterated gang becomes aware of the story again, they have to get back to the cabin and retrieve the knife. Not sure exactly what HABIT will be up to but its made clear in the end of the series that his goal is aligned with the crew, he wants to end the cycle. Since he accomplished his goal of making Vinny confront the fact that he was perpetuating it by being the Voyeur, he probably takes a backseat this time around, maybe guiding the crew a bit or acting as an unreliable mentor figure but widely just sitting back and letting the gang do the work for him.

Because of this, I think it would be cool if the cabin property where the knife is was deteriorating and fucked up all timey-wimey style since it can be assumed to be HABIT's domain and he's not upkeeping it anymore. Wacky teleporting, spooky ambience, the whole nine yards, could be a great setpiece.

Also Jeff survives this time becauss Vinny isn't a snake and HABIT doesn't have an agenda so all three boys can fight together. I also think Steph wouldn't reiterate since she isn't shown in the candleverse scenes at the end of the last cycle. My best guess as to why in-universe is because she managed to effectively write herself out by blocking slenderman out so much mentally in her last life. That's for sure how he operates according to Michael (I think) in the Princeton Tapes.

I think it would also be cool if we see the crew in a kind of 'enlightened state' similar to Corenthal where they can jump in and out of the 'monster sanctuary' and are more aware of what's going on outside the current cycle, similar to the candleverse crew from the morse code videos. This would be because they have a leg up on slenderman's power now since they're effectively "off the grid" and not recording anything which, again, is how slenderman gets his power: from spreading the word.

If we want to get really pedantic the story could be told in past tense after slenderman is killed (assuming they're successful) since any form of documentation during the fact would potentially strengthen him.

I feel as though you must've spoken about this when it came out, but what is your interpretation of the EMH finale "Introductions" and how it relates to the themes of the audience as an antagonist in EMH as a whole? (If that doesn't appeal to you as a topic, just talk about your interpretation of the finale in general and what it means for the narrative?) <3 Happy 4 years since the finale

wow thanks for the great question!

so, i think that the audience and vinny are very similar in that both perpetuated misery and did so unknowingly. vinny hurt people and we helped it happen just by merely giving it views. those unfortunate enough to go further often met gruesome ends

however, i’m not sure the audience is as much an antagonistic force as vinny is, and that is why it’s important that vinny chooses to give up the camera in the end

sure, we the audience have been “unknowing accomplices” as habit puts it, and yeah…we found entertainment in watching these peoples lives fall apart. we’re enablers as well as a feeding ground for man and habit

but vinny, no matter his intention, no matter the narrative he tries to spin about himself, repeats one simple mistake: broadcasting it for everyone to see

the mere action of doing so dooms everyone. there’s nothing we the audience can do to stop anything. we’re the spawn that just keeps growing, existing for creatures like habit and man to feed on. and they do so through people like vinny

i don’t think vinny learning his lesson after death is meant to be ironic, that it’s meaningless because in a hypothetical next iteration he’ll just forget, rinse and repeat forever. i think this is the only way to begin undoing their curse

see, each time the guys die and enter the candleverse, they retain the knowledge of the life they just experienced. when we first see the candleverse gang, we see the guys speculating about what’s about to happen prior to the the emh iteration beginning

these guys have come from the princeton iteration, so their knowledge of what’s going on is limited by their experience up to that point. which is frankly just a lot of misery and no explanation

except… princeton vinny was told the answer in tape 3. so when he died, candleverse vinny already had a good idea how the next iteration would play out. he knew he’d be responsible

in the morse code video, c!vinny seems pretty nonchalant about everything, having learned he’s the center of so many problems. patrick basically told him that he’s just gonna keep fucking up so why bother telling jeff or evan. he doesn’t care that there’s a cameraman watching them, even seeming to invite it

with this in mind i don’t believe c!jeff and c!evan truly knew the extent of the problem until they found each other again during the emh iteration. at this point they now would know about their roles, and we know they eventually figure out that by watching we are contributing to the problem (the ghost tweet telling us to stop watching, posted by evan and jeff from the candleverse)

thus, i believe that what vinny says about the camera in the end is significant:

“we don’t need it”

evan and jeff (and steph by default) already know that; it’s not something they struggle with. if we believe vin has changed then why include them when he’s the main instigator?

obviously it’s because he’s referring to the audience as well. he’s cutting us off, saying we don’t need to see the rest

this is a change in attitude from the c!vinny we saw back in the morse code video

sure, maybe this doesn’t rectify their problem entirely, but it’s an important step forward. just like any trauma or addiction, recovery is a journey and it starts with admitting you have a problem, which vinny does; and he takes it a step further by swearing off the camera. cold turkey.

man this isn’t even mentioning the implications of the north star but i’ve been trying to answer this ask for long enough so maybe i’ll do that separately

Directors cut ask: Corenthal Sections of Some Nights 🔪

MAN. man. man. Corenthal. I miss him so much. He's the most normal guy ever. He literally just loves his kids.

First off, I just really like Corenthal. He's a bit of a Christ figure, he's a dad, he's made so many mistakes but he can always make better ones, and he's semi-immortal. I wanted to get into his head a little bit and see what he was doing.

Mechanically, I really, really needed a way to show the reader what was going on outside of what Steph knew. With EMH, there are so many moving parts that can be conveyed through video, but when you're locked into one third person limited POV there's only so much you can do. I needed a way to show the reader that there are machinations going on and that they did in fact learn from the previous iteration and are narrowing down what works and what doesn't. I also wanted a way to introduce Habit to someone who knows exactly what it is and what it's capable of. And to tie up Maryann, who I found to be an upsetting loose thread in the canon material.

The Corenthal sections (and the Candleverse sections in general) are just really fun for me to write because they're almost meta but still in the fiction itself. They're as fourth-wall-breaking as you can get without actually doing the damn thing, which is really delightful to mess around with.

trying to be concise about the difference between jeff in the candleverse and how every other iteration of him is is... weird... because cv jeff is All of the versions of himself he’s ever been and died as so... he’s different! and he knows a stupid amount of things. he seems like a very old soul and he has a very... direct, forgiving, objective way of going about shit. and, a deep seated fury, guilt, and sadness from losing everyone in every timeline! he bends dimensions to try to protect his friends and push forward corenthal’s plans. he remembers every brutal time he’s died and there are many short lifetimes of people he’s loved that he can’t be w/ anymore. still him but so tired.

meanwhile iteration jeffs are like..  depressed and baby. was just hanging out with his friends being goofs not knowing they’re in yet another timeline god abandoned. and also he has a minecraft shirt on. like i’ts just , i have to laugh
