Jezus sado-maso

Jesus wasn't Palestinian you dumb heretic. Palestine didn't exist yet. The Palestinian people didn't exist yet. Read the fucking bible. Dumbass
(what anon's responding to)
This is going to sound sarcastic but i mean it genuinely: i love getting called a heretic by randos online. helps me know i'm doing some things right!
In honor of Jesus the Palestinian Jew, here's an excerpt from a sermon (which you can read / listen to in full over here) I wrote back in June on how Jesus's direct identification with those the world calls "least" in Matthew 25 empowers (and challenges) us to envision him as literally one with all who are denigrated, disenfranchised, executed by Empire — as Palestinians are today.
...In proclaiming himself not only kin with the world’s outcasts, but literally one with each and every one of them, Jesus empowers us to imagine him in ever newer, ever more expansive ways. He empowered Black theologian James Cone to declare that Christ is Black, and that every time a Black person is lynched, Christ is re-crucified with them. He empowered disability theologian Nancy Eiesland to declare that God is disabled – to envision the throne of God as a wheelchair, and to point out how the wounds with which Christ rose would have impaired his movement. He empowered gay artist Maxwell Lawton to paint Christ with AIDS lesions, and photographer Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin to depict Christ’s resurrection wounds as transgender top surgery scars. Though some have decried all these images of Christ as blasphemous, it was Jesus himself who told us that he is one with those whom the world denies food, safety, medical care, freedom, and love...
btw if anyone has other examples of theologians declaring Christ a member of a marginalized group it's my fave thing so please add on. Another great one is S. Yesu Suresh' declaration that Christ is Dalit (the "untouchable" class in India).

IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A photo by Swedish photographer Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin based on the Caravaggio painting "The Incredulity of Saint Thomas" shows a trans man holding his shirt open, revealing top surgery scars, while three other men look at his chest. The trans man represents Jesus and the man touching the scar represents Saint Thomas.
why do i think jesus was trans? well, i dont, actually, i dont think so at least?
but i watch my husband poke tenderly at my top surgery scars, wondrous, almost disbelieving, despite having seen them over and over, and i think of jesus feeling a hand probing his side, fingers curling in for proof, proof that this is real
but ive used enough t needles now to make my own halo of them, my own crown of thorns
but i think of birth, and death, and resurrection, and i think of how i had to die to be born again, that to save myself i had to kill the part of me, the parts of me, the me, that no longer served me, that never did
but when i woke up from surgery, sore and confused and lighter than i had ever felt, i knew more certainly than i knew anything else, that this was the first day of my life
maybe i do think jesus is trans, and even if he isnt, i know for a fact he knows what it means to have to abandon everything to live the life you were meant to

The themes in your work just blow me away, they're SO beautiful (like truly yelling about them ghhg god). What would you say is your main point(s) of inspiration for what you like to write about?
Thank you!! 🥺❤️
I think what I like to work with most is just queerness, how it intersects with everything else, how it's both conflict and comfort, and what I can do to make it seem gentle, even when it isn't. Second to that is writing relationships that are like love but never romantic. Devotion, dedication, care, the platonic, the familial and the dog-like. So a lot of the inspiration that follows me around regardless the project deals with those! (Or, in the second case, leaves enough room to interpret freely)
My most obvious one is NBC's Hannibal, which violently flipped my whole view of relationships when I first watched it—my interpretation of what Hannibal and Will had with each other continues to influence everything I write even years later. But there's also Richard Siken's Crush, and there's Brokeback Mountain, Black Sails and The Terror, which all sit with me when I write queer stories. Since I started diving deeper into religious themes—Midnight Mass has been keeping me company, and recently also Thomas Mallon's Fellow Travelers, with some fantastic work around queerness and religion. For that theme specifically, Elisabeth Ohlson's Sermon on the Mount is something I think back to quite often!
On top of all that—I like writing things that carry a familiar feeling, things that feel like home or have the potential to. This is obviously incredibly subjective though, and my personal source of inspiration for this is mostly music—Pablopavo i Ludziki, Kino, Stare Dobre Małżeństwo, Jacek Kaczmarski. An abstract one, but abstraction and poetry is what I love to dabble in 😌
Thank you for the question!! Absolutely stunned by how hard it was to think of an answer bgshjklf
