THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT ELIJAH THE PROPHET The Patron and the Father of the Carmelite Order Feast Day: July 20
"Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again!" -1 Kings 18:36 NIV
The prophet Elijah is considered to be the greatest of the Old Testament prophets, as well as the Father of the Carmelite Order. Not much is known of his background.
All that is known from scripture is that he was a Tishbite (or Thesbite), although scholars disagree on what the term refers to. He lived sometime around the year 90 BC. Some Jewish traditions maintain that he was of priestly descent. Otherwise, Elijah's life before he is called by God in the First Book of Kings is a mystery.
Elijah was described as a wild and hairy man; 'as a fire, and his word burnt like a torch.'
He lived a very ascetic life, living in a cave and wearing clothes made of camel hair. His entire known life was a protest against the immorality of his time. Pagan worship had corrupted the land, and King Ahab and Queen Jezebel had erected a shrine to the false god Baal. Elijah informed Ahab that if they did not repent of the evils they had committed, God would scourge the land with a drought to punish them for their apostasy. After delivering God's message, Elijah quickly disappeared, led by Yahweh to the land east of the Jordan, where he was fed by ravens.
Ahab ignored Elijah's warning, and for three years, not a drop of rain fell upon the land. Furious, Ahab devastated the land in search of Elijah, but his efforts were futile. After three years, Elijah returned and confronted the King.
Ahab fiercely accused Elijah of bringing the curse upon the land, but Elijah flung the accusation back at Ahab, pointing out that the drought was caused by his own stubbornness and sinfulness.
Next came the episode for which Elijah is most famous. He challenged the priests of Baal to a contest. Atop Mount Carmel, Elijah and the priests would each set up an altar and provide a sacrifice upon their altar. They would then pray to their respective deities, the priests to Baal and Elijah to Yahweh, and whichever deity sent fire down from the sky to consume the sacrifice would be the true God. The priests of Baal went first, and for hours and hours they chanted and danced and cut themselves, to no avail. Finally, laughing at their failure, Elijah approached his altar.
He set twelve stones around the altar, for the twelve tribes of Israel, and poured water all over the sacrifice. Then Elijah prayed to God, and suddenly a fire came down from heaven and consumed the sacrifice. Elijah then killed all the priests of Baal, and the people once again believed in the true God. That very evening, torrential rains fell upon the land, thereby ending the three year drought.
Elijah went on to prophesy and perform many more wonders which can be found in the First Book of Kings. He is considered to be the Father of Carmelites, as the Carmelite way of life embodies the Elijahan tradition.
Father Elijah's spirit of prayer, penance, contemplation, and zeal for the Lord is to this day the very spirit of the Carmelites. During his ministry, Elijah went up to Mount Carmel in Palestine to live and to pray. It was there that he taught and trained his followers, who are considered by some to be the first monks. From that time onward, Mount Carmel has always been inhabited by men seeking union with God.
It is also believed that Elijah and the monks living on Mt. Carmel had a devotion to the woman who would be the mother of the Messiah, the Blessed Virgin Mary, long before she was born.
Elijah's end was as quick and mysterious as his beginning. One day as he was speaking with his successor Elisha, 'a fiery chariot, and fiery horses parted them both asunder, and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven' (2 Kings 11).
Elijah appeared along with Moses at the Transfiguration of the Jesus on Mount Tabor.

Should've been kind, Satan. Wash your own feet in Hell. :)
You are all fallen demonics here, as stated via the Garden of Eden.
You have all rejected Christ and committed sorcery, as prophesied.
Get on your knees and Repent.
Those who reject Christ are revealed and seen for what they Are - demons.
Tumblr media
(that demon insulted - falsely, in order to betray the work of God, instead of simply welcoming the Truth - me because I happen to be the Messiah and stated as such in order to introduce this material, the Gospel of Jesus Christ)
Disobedient and false, betrayers, filth, faithless. Rude and foul.
You're Welcome.
JESUS
Learn to be humble and not project your depraved asininity on me, proud false apostles.
Learn manners. You're arrogant. Just because I'm Jesus, and you're an asshole, doesn't make me arrogant. Facts are facts. I'm from Heaven. You aren't.
Learn, or stfu and leave.
Be nice, instead of arrogant idiots 'admonishing' others for being angels. Jude 1:8
You have no excuse.
And no, when I offer my valuable help, you don't get to mouth off calling me arrogant just because you are arrogant proud and puffed up in ignorance and asinine pride. I am who I am, and I have no arrogance, only fact. Only Justice. And only the unjust dare to assault my person with such nonsense, being criminals and demonically ruled scum who are cursed forever. Speak rightly or remain silent, forever, now, and forever, and you will each, demons, pay for your Crimes, forever also, if need be.
Tumblr media
youtube
Repent.
Learn not to be condescending and rude, without any merit or understanding, phony thieves.
Learn to have sympathy and empathy for others, gaslighting jackasses.
youtube
(God hates such rapey lying abusers like the piece of shit above, who never help and always have judgmental excuses to avoid the Truth of God. God sees all, and all such are CONDEMNED for aeons of Evil and Abuse, their punishment now Everlasting.)
(Your constant assaults against others are considered rape in the higher dimensions, whether psychic or otherwise, and you shall pay the price according to The Law. You call your constant abuse of others normal, but God sees all, and you hypocrites and scum will burn in the endless fire of eternity, a fair recompense for burning the innocent, you filth, damned to Perdition.)
Such demonic trash have been masquerading as Christian for too long and will burn in the eternal fire prepared for them, the devil and his angels😇, Satan. Because they raped the good Name of God
Adieu, and to your punishments.
Eternal Victory In Christ Jesus

When the prophet Elijah faced a government that wanted him dead, he wanted to die, so God sent an angel—a messenger of the Lord—who put their hands on him, brought him food and said “Arise, eat.”
And when Elijah laid back down because he lacked the strength to continue, the angel came again. They put their hands on him, brought him food and said “Arise, eat, because the journey is too great for you.”
And Elijah got up and ate. Until he was ready to engage in his long journey to the mountain of God.
When he got there, the government still wanted the prophet dead, so Elijah still wanted to die. So God told him to stand on the mountain while He came by, so that Elijah could be near God and see Him.
Elijah looked for God in the roaring wind, but God was not there. He looked for God in the earthquake, but God was not there. He looked for God in fire, but God was not there.
And then Elijah heard a gentle breeze, and God was there. In comfort. In stillness. In gentleness.
And when Elijah left, still despairing over facing a government that wanted him dead, God sent him to Damascus with the promise that Elijah would anoint new kings and a new prophet. He found Elisha, his companion and fellow prophet, who stood with Elijah as they weathered the storm of government, grief and fear together. And then they built a new world.
Elijah outlived those who wanted him dead. But he did not do it alone. Comfort, touch, food—these are the essentials. These get us out of bed. These keep us alive. The message from God when Elijah is lying down in despair isn’t “get to work,” it isn’t “focus on resisting,” it isn’t “mourn,” it isn’t chastisement. It’s “arise, eat.”
Communion, gentleness, stillness, focus—these are what motivate us to do the work. Elijah was driven by despair into God’s arms. Maybe that works for you—I will be spending my day in prayer alongside my local parish and participating in a communal Mincha service. Maybe the communion and gentleness for you is other people. Your friends, family, loved ones. Maybe it’s yourself—sitting in meditation, art, music, screaming, cooking, sobbing, stretching, gardening. Do something to be in communion with someone or something today. If you have no one, commune with yourself. Commune with plants and your pets and the wind and the water and the candlelight and anywhere you feel that gentle breeze. Stillness, focus, connection.
Finally, companionship, organizing, community, action, solidarity—these are what allow us to do the work. The journey is too great for us alone. We need each other. We will weather this storm together. We will weather the grief and mourning and despair and anger and outrage and whatever the next few years have in store for us, and we will do it standing alongside each other.
Rememberif things get overwhelming, return to the basics. Lay down. Eat. Rest. Repeat until you can find communion and stillness. And repeat both until you can find the strength to journey on and create meaningful relationships and resistance with others.
As final thoughts, I will share the prayer I have prayed regularly since I began my own journey alongside God as a blessing to anyone who may benefit from hearing it:
May God give you eyes that you may see, ears that you may hear, and lips that speak the truth in righteousness. May you receive a caring heart and open mind. May the Lord bless the work of your hands and that which you give others.
And, to those for whom Christ may be a comfort:
May the Risen Savior grant you peace. May He help you to become more like Him and find solace in Him and His Passion. May the five wounds of Christ serve as a map guiding you to His gentle breeze.
May the Holy Virgin light your way and intercede for us all, comfort the afflicted, hear our sorrows, and show us the Blessed Fruit of her womb Jesus.
Em nome do Pai, do Filho, e do Espírito Santo,
Amém.
EDIT: This post is blowing up a bit so I feel the need to expressly state (as if my blog isn’t statement enough) that this is a queer leftist message. I stand with Palestine, Sudan, the Congo and all peoples struggling to be free. I stand with Black, Brown and Indigenous peoples suffering under colonialism, racism and imperialism, I stand with queer people, I stand with the houseless, I stand with anarchists and witches and freedom fighters. The idea of self care expressed here is explicitly indebted to Audre Lorde—the act of placing boundaries with yourself in order to have the energy to do the work of fighting for liberation, freedom and equality. Her concept applied to the labor regularly performed by Black women in being forced to advocate for their own humanity, which ought to be acknowledged, but in its principles we may also find a path to guide the rest of us towards a foundation of sustainable movement. My faith is based around the acknowledgment that Jesus Christ did not come to establish a kingdom of man, or a hierarchy of oppression, but a kingdom of God built for the oppressed.

Happy Passover from the Danvers extended family!
Tumblr media
Esme first passover with her new family got her really excited to learn everything about the holiday.
Kara decided to go the extra mile and dress as Elijah the Prophet while telling the tale of Exodus to the excited child.
Esme fell asleep halfway through the reading of the Haggada, and Kara - despite refusing to remove her fake beard - lifted it up for just a moment to give her girlfriend a little kiss.
Happy Passover!
I always loved Passover, so I decided to make this drawing extra special by using my own family's photographs and videos as reference and inspiration for all the little moments you see above😊
So for those who celebrate Passover and for those who don't, I hope you'll have a lovely day:)

Angel Appearing to Elijah
Artist: Ferdinand Bol (Dutch, 1616–1680)
Date: c. 1642
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Collection: The Leiden Collection, New York City, NY, United States
The Angel Appears to Elijah
The painting depicts an episode from the Old Testament (I Kings 16:29–34 and chapters 17–19). In this complex and rather gory story, Ahab, the king of Israel (reigned ca. 874–53 BC), and his wife, Jezebel, reject the God of the Israelites and build an altar for the worshippers of Baal. The prophet Elijah then challenges the priests of Baal to set up a sacrificial altar to rival his own. When only Elijah’s sacrifice is consumed by fire, the people reject the false god, Baal, and turn again to the God of the Israelites. At Elijah’s instigation, the people then seize the prophets of Baal, and Elijah kills them. After Jezebel subsequently threatens to kill Elijah, the prophet flees into the wilderness where he sits under a juniper tree and prays for death before falling asleep. The moment that Bol depicts is when an angel comes to Elijah and says: “Arise and eat.” Elijah eats and drinks, but then he falls asleep again, whereupon the angel returns and exhorts him once more to get up and eat. Thus fortified, Elijah “went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.”
In Bol’s painting the figures loom large in the picture plane. Elijah, lying under a tree, supports his head with his right hand and rests his left arm on the ground. In his lap is the end of the belt tied around his waist, a motif often seen in portrayals of biblical figures by, among others, Pieter Lastman (1583–1633) and Rembrandt.1 Behind Elijah hangs a gourd, while leaves and flowers fill the right foreground. The approaching angel looks at Elijah with slightly raised eyebrows as he prepares to waken the prophet with his raised left hand and provide him with water from the flask hanging from his right hand. Light falling onto Elijah’s face and hands and onto the hair of the angel lends plasticity to their forms and anchors them firmly in the darkened landscape surrounding them.

> "Citing bible verses without writing out the verse should be punishable by death! Why do the Hellever 21 bags say '2 Kings 2:23-24' on them? Is this a shopping bag or an academic thesis? Why is there a citation? Am I expected to know these verses by heart? Should I pull out a bible and look it up, right here in front of the cashier? Die!"
