Maybe straight men do have a point that they're being left behind. I mean, I just did the math, and out of 250 years, a straight man has only been the president for 250 of them. That equals about 100%, which is a staggeringly low number. Worse still, if you add in Obama, that number drops to 97% straight white male presidents, which is just horrifically low. No wonder white straight men feel so threatened and so unlistened-to. This is far worse than women, who have been the president for 0/250 years, or about 0% of the time. No wonder they feel so aggrieved; can you imagine the pain and loneliness they must feel knowing the president represented their graphic a measly 97% of the time? The left needs to fix this if they ever want to win the male vote again

friendly reminder it's not "20% of germany" that voted for fascists, or italians that voted for meloni, or france for the far right
it's 20% of VOTERS
so, once again, i am here telling you ABSTENTIONISM is the problem. and it always fucking is.
people who feel demotivated, underrepresented, or adhere to some purity culture where it's the revolution or nothing.
THAT is the fucking problem. you get your head out of your ass and you fucking vote

He sounded interested and even concerned. I thought he had been touched by what the doctor and advocates in the meeting had just shared about their journey with their patients and their own family members. But I was wrong.
“Those people . . . ” Donald said, trailing off. “The shape they’re in, all the expenses, maybe those kinds of people should just die.”
I truly did not know what to say. He was talking about expenses. We were talking about human lives. For Donald, I think it really was about the expenses, even though we were there to talk about efficiencies, smarter investments, and human dignity.
I turned and walked away
[from later in the article]
Donald took a second as if he was thinking about the whole situation.
“I don’t know,” he finally said, letting out a sigh. “He doesn’t recognize you. Maybe you should just let him die and move down to Florida.”
Wait! What did he just say? That my son doesn’t recognize me? That I should just let him die?
Did he really just say that? That I should let my son die . . . so I could move down to Florida?
Really?
[...]
Maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised to hear Donald say that. It wasn’t far off from what he’d said that day in the Oval Office after our meeting with the advocates. Only that time, it was other people’s children who should die. This time, it was my son.
When you’re legitimately so evil you tell a parent, your own fucking nephew, to their face that it’d be more cost-effective to let their child die because they are disabled.
Honestly, it's not the ableism or eugenics that shocks me. Donald Trump has shown who he is time and time again. I guess what got me was that he’d be willing to hold the same views for family members.
Usually these types of people make exceptions for their own. “It’s not immoral if it’s my abortion, I’m only doing this because I have no choice, mine is necessary” kind of thing.
But nope. Donald just straight up thinks his great nephew should die because it’s expensive to keep him alive.
Jesus Wept.
Fucking vote. Please, I’m begging you. As a disabled immigrant who isn’t able to vote I see so many people saying they’re going to boycott the election by not voting and I want to scream.
You boycott products by withholding money.
Not voting in elections only disenfranchises yourself. You’re not protesting. You’re giving tyrants power.
Please vote like people’s lives depend on it because they do.
If you need help figuring out how to register I will help you but please. Please vote.

This is kind of brilliant, and necessary.
A group of adult entertainment actors is about to spend $100,000 in the next 29 days running anti-Project 2025/anti-Trump ads on adult websites targeting their male audiences in seven battleground states: Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada.
Why?
Page 5 of the 920 page Project 2025 manifesto says of pornography:
It has no claim to First Amendment protection. ... Pornography should be outlawed. The people who produce and distribute it should be imprisoned. Educators and public librarians who purvey it should be classed as registered sex offenders. And telecommunications and technology firms that facilitate its spread should be shuttered.
Now whether or not you approve of the porn industry, it's clear that Project 2025 is talking about a much broader thing: whatever these right-wing zealots determine to be "pornographic." Note how teachers and librarians are mentioned specifically. Some bookbanners have called children's books pornographic simply for featuring a lgbtq character.
Closer to tumblr's heart, smutty fanfic and fanfic sites would certainly be swept up if Project 2025 ever came to pass.
So kudos to the adult film stars for stepping up and spreading the word.

Probably a niche political interest, but every election I watch the polls to see if Idaho votes to redraw their third congressional district which only covers the Amigara Township and a few small farming communities.

This is a gentle, earnest reminder to anyone who needs to hear it that no matter what the media tries to tell you, no matter how fearmongering some people try to be, no matter what happens in this one election, it will be okay. Please don't lose hope if your candidate doesn't win. The world will not end no matter who gets into office. Some people want us to be afraid and at each others' throats, but hating each other isn't going to make things better or solve our problems. We're all people and we all have value.
If things get too stressful, you are not weak or wrong to take time for yourself, away from the news and the yelling, and focus on all of the beautiful, good things in your life that aren't going away. Family. Friends. Sunshine. Your favorite snack. Pretty colors. Pets. Those funny memes. That show you like. A warm beverage.
Rest. Humans are not meant to carry every weight of the world on their shoulders at once. Allow yourself to trust and believe that there is still good in the world no matter who is in office.

I also think a lot of you are failing to comprehend just how long the right, particularly the religious right, have been planning this. It hasn't been since Trump. Hasn't been since Dubya. Hasn't even been since Reagan.
It's been since desegregation.
The right, livid at being told they couldn't stick black children in crumbling shacks with a single teacher anymore, coalesced together. Evangelicals used to be pro-choice; they viewed the idea of life beginning at conception as a distinctly Catholic viewpoint, and fundies HATE Catholics. But they got in bed with each other, agreeing to use the issue of abortion to rally each other to roll back protections for Americans of color.
They weren't very subtle about it, either, and that's the frustrating thing. One of Nixon's staff had a cartoon villain monologue talking about how obviously the war on drugs was a war against liberals, the poor, and people of color, going after only drugs they used, and renaming the ones both used to create more stigma against those groups while making the "right people's" usage seem harmless.
People are now better at tracing our woes back to Reagan, but even that is an oversimplification. Reagan was a middle domino, not the first and not the last. Still, he accelerated the toppling, and so did Dubya.
By the time Bush v Gore happened, it was too late, but people didn't realize because 9/11 happened soon after, and Americans jumped at the chance to sign their civil rights away in return for security theater. The Patriot Act was a Trojan Horse, plain and simple. It was only years later that people would realize just how much fell apart because of Bush v Gore (And by the way? Bush's legal team for that case are SCOTUS judges now). Counting would later reveal Gore won Florida, and therefore the Electoral College; SCOTUS just ruled to stop counting, just because. It was "stop the count" before Trump.
Everything after that has been a rapid escalation that for reasons I can't comprehend, Democrats denied at every turn. They weren't doing that, of course, and if they were, we had safeguards in place to prevent them, they were just a fringe lunatic group of fundies that no one would pay attention to.
Now the idea that women shouldn't vote is mainstream in the Republican party. We could have stopped this, if Democrats had acted when there was still a chance in the aftermath of the stolen 2000 election, but instead they happily hopped into the lion's mouth because they were convinced the Taliban's lion was scarier.
And now that abortion is gone and the 19th amendment is in mortal peril, evangelicals are so close to ending desegregation too that they're salivating.
A decades-long lesson in "when they show you who they are, believe them the first time" being ignored to disastrous results.
Next time a religious fringe group signals their intention to conquer their own country by force from within, including terroristic attacks on healthcare providers like Dr. Tiller, listen to them. That warning isn't for Americans, by the way- it's too late for us. It's for Canadians, for our friends across the pond, and everyone else who still has a chance. We learned the hard way, but you don't have to.
