Courier Six, also known as Effie Yew, was my "fuck it, I just want to get through this character creation process" after Fallout New Vegas crashed immediately upon creating my first character (Crystal Methany). I ended up growing entirely attached to Effie and tried to keep her safe and fashionable during the whole playthrough! Her primary companions were Rex with Lupa the Legion mongrel mothers brain and her boyfriend Raul, the grumpy Ghoul mechanic.

Okay I think too many people believe Katniss when she talks about herself. She's always like "I never do anything."

But there's a scene in Mockingjay where people list the things she's done. But Katniss doesn't grasp any of that bc it's in a context of manipulation. Like, how do we make these things matter? How do we make Katniss perform like this again?

And so to Katniss, it's all a performance. She doesn't believe that she's capable of anything good because every good thing she's done has been manipulated.

So it's not that putting flowers on Rue's grave was the only thing she's ever done, but it's the only thing we get to see as purely hers because every other moment is taken from her and twisted into something else.

And I think it's easy to believe that she's done nothing because I'm pretty sure We've All Felt That. Like nothing we do matters, but other people point out how we changed the world for them, but we brush it off bc insecurity or trauma or self doubt.

Reminder too in case you forgot that killing snow wasn't coin's plan. coin wanted her to die unepically. That was decision katniss made out of desparation so yeah the manipulation factor is there but that's what's so tragic about it is that it's not katniss neither is shooting coin but she's left with no options and that last thing is still hugely her choice just in a dark sense after she's been destroyed

also on that end though - it does always surprise me when white people completely and utterly miss mixed race coding in like books and other fiction. which i guess i shouldnt be surprised because of how bad they are with any racial coding at all really like (gestures vaguely at the hunger games rue situation for the past 15 years) but like straight up they dont see it? they don't even see...

shout-out to fire emblem fates for making you get married to a man if you chose female corrin and were playing conquest. if it wasn't for you and how grossed out i got after i married jakob (cuz i really didn't give a shit) and went to the private quarters, it wouldve taken way longer for me to be like "hold on."

it's really funny to me as someone new to the fire emblem fandom (having played all of awakening and a little more than half of fates - both conquest and revelations) when i look up character pairings and their kids and are just met with people discussing nothing but stat growths, reclassing, and the best ways to pair the characters JUST to get high-stat kids with little regard to the actual pairings themselves. i get that it's pretty normal in this fandom (and for most games like this, i assume?) to be more focused on that kind of thing, but to me, the stats/gameplay are more of an afterthought. i just like pairing off characters based on the supports + vibes/dynamic and seeing what the kids will look and act like accordingly. of course i want my 2nd gen characters to be strong and fight well, but i also want to see them be a fitting child for the parents i paired together, ya know?

but idk, that's just my opinion lol [shrugs]

i'm listening to the first hunger games novel's audiobook and omg, tatiana maslany's inner voice for katniss (who obviously is also the pov character) is so snarky, it's like she's constantly rolling her eyes at everything in the capitol. amazing

hunger games high school hockey team au.... haymitch is the coach, effie's the home ec teacher who signed up to be the team's manager, and katniss tries out for the team because she used to play hockey with her dad. she gets into a fight with peeta during a practice and haymitch makes them volunteer at the ice rink and run extra drills in mornings as a punishment.
