Ed’s been fluttery and light and happy this morning as he checks guests in to the same room Stede pushed him against the dresser, kissed him within an inch of his life and then slid down and licked and sucked his asshole until Ed nearly drooled into the wood. He’s doling out smiles like the daisies Stede plucked yesterday for the guests to take from a wide-topped vase at the counter in front of Ed. Then Stede appears, and Ed’s smile gets impossibly wider, could probably be called a grin now, a beaming fucking grin until Stede leans over the desk to the white-haired short old ex-pirate Ed’s helping count change to pay for his room and says, “May I borrow my friend here for a moment, dear guest?” And that’s the moment Ed’s brain decides to notice it. Friend. Or: Months into running a modestly successful Inn, a lovestruck Ed wonders why he and Stede are calling each other friend all the fuckin' time.

Thinking about the kiss again as always and I want to point out how important the costuming is here, or rather, the lack there of. 

Stede and Ed have quite literally been stripped back to the barest versions of themselves. Stede doesn’t have the clutch of his rather expensive clothes and fine silks. He is no longer ‘The Gentleman Pirate’, a persona of himself that he wants to be. Ed’s transformation is even more obvious. Yes, he’s no longer in his iconic black leathers, but more importantly is that his beard is gone. You can’t exactly be Blackbeard without the beard now, can you? 

The decision to strip them right back meant we got to watch a kiss between Stede and Ed instead of The Gentleman Pirate and Blackbeard. It made the whole thing feel more real and important. That these are two people who see each other underneath the disguises and love what it is that they see. 

I just really loved this choice and don’t think the kiss would have been as impactful if they were dressed how we typically saw them before this point.

The time has come, and the Auxiliary Wardrobe Zine @stedebonnetzine has come to an end! Naturally, I went over the very word limit I helped to set, so AO3 gets an extra section/extended edition.

Ed/Stede, with background Archie/Jim/Olu and Lucius/Pete; rated T, no warnings; 5054 words.

After giving up the "cursed" red suit, Stede longs for something equally fancy to replace it with. As it turns out, there are plenty of relevant skills and supplies on the Revenge, and what they don't have, well - they are pirates, after all... A little excursion into 18th-century fashion and the power of handicrafts, against the background of Stede and Ed's healing relationship. Set in a pocket universe post-2x05 where there's, like, at least six weeks between that and episode 6.

the way some people reacted to David Jenkins and Neil Gaiman saying their shows would only have 3 seasons is so funny because I saw so many feeling devastated while I am so relieved and relaxed about it. don’t get me wrong I love getting more content with the characters I love but… normalize cohesive storytelling. normalize ENDINGS. do you REALLY want another s*pernatural????
