#editing tags bc tumblr messed up again

Do you see this bespoke banner? The title "Sonic Sunday" is by @ivelovedhimthroughworse and while I was looking that up, I realised staff flagged this entire blog as mature content. I literally complain all the time about how I do not know what sexy times are and yet...

Anyway, Tumblr fuckery aside, I claimed a fic for the Caught on Tape Podfic fest. It was a brash decision, because I have zero (0) experiences with the podfic world. I've uhhh never even listened to one so feel free to send recommendations. The things is that, to this day, I still read English text out loud. That's partially how I learnt English. And then I always give characters voices etc. so I thought: "Why not try this?" and also the mods said the fest was open for everyone. I was a bit worried, since I don't own a microphone or anything, but it's all in good fun. I did contribute, like, 5 lines to the Dalton Audiobook, but that's it. (And my chapters haven't been posted yet.) But the list of fics of this fest is absolutely phenomenal and I even had to stop myself from claiming multiple and I told myself to keep it around 1K fics, but damn. I already looked up how to pronounce Telemachus, but how the shit do you pronounce Swithin???

So I decided to try to podfic my own fics, just as some sort of equipment test. I only have a phone, after all. I originally wanted to try my hand at My rose-coloured boy, since that's my shortest CO fic, but again, this is a try out, so I picked my shortest fic on AO3, which happens to be my Klaine fic called The Moon fic, with a whopping 49 words. You'd think that a 16 second podfic would be a fucking cakewalk but I am at my parents' house and I recorded this in secret to avoid telling them that I was reading a fic about fictional homosexuals on the moon so I didn't have a second screen aka I did this whole 49 words fic from memory and even though it's literally only 49 words, I did 10 takes cause I kept messing up the text. I guess I will also have to learn how to edit and shit, since the fic I claimed is just over 1K.

Anyway, don't care too much about the quality of me reading out loud. That's not what this test was for. But how does it sound? I did read some tips in the Discord about maybe recording underneath a blanket or in a closet, so I might redo it from there just to see how it looks.

I can understand about the whole nightmare part. i had a cool theme but it got exploded and reverted to default and I've been too demotivated by that to try again 😔

I've definitely gotten a lot of tags along those lines on my theme post, which I can definitely understand why that would be discouraging. That being said, have you tried using tumblr's theme recovery tool? It doesn't always have everything saved but if you want to get your old theme back without going through messing around with every aspect of theming again, it might be your best bet!

I would also suggest that everyone who edits their theme and intends to keep it for a long time, copy-paste their theme's code and all it's information (including the color edits and things like that) into a folder on their computer. Use notepad to save the code. I've done this since long before tumblr did their weird theme-glitch that wiped out many people's blog themes, bc I've always been paranoid of such a thing, or of messing up my themes and wanting to revert back. It usually doesn't take long and it makes it easy to recover things for any reason.

i wanted to send this as an ask bc im shy on public tumblr posts but! first of all good luck and congrats, fanfic writing is so fun & it's so brave of you to start & put yourself out there <3 i've been writing fic since i was 13 so i have a few (hard earned) tips, which im sharing just bc you asked for some !! i'm SORRY IT'S SO LONG OH MY GOD I did not expect to write my uh Ten Fic Commandments????? but dbdhdjwj here you go i hope they help <3

1) don't be afraid to mess up, like seriously. I had a HUGE issue looking back/thinking on past fics I wrote bc the writing was ~so cringe~. it made me want to delete everything, even the stuff that had good reviews. but I once saw a school play, and the kids were 11-13, and they sang and danced their little hearts out, and were any of them amazing? no. most of them weren't talented at all. but I grinned the whole time because they were having fun and I had fun with them. as long as you're having fun then so will everyone else

2) no one ever masters style or grammar or syntax or blah blah blah. it evolves every single time you write something new. the best way to figure out what YOU like is to go look at your favorite fic and analyze HOW it was written. then Emulate (don't copy; emulate) their style, their tone (to do this, you're going to want to study how they use all of those boring english class words like imagery and metapher and ominomonimepia. how do they phrase things, how much detail do they go into? how much do they describe? how many dialogue tags, and which ones? where is the verb in the sentence; before or after the adverb (i.e. 'quickly running' or 'running quickly'). You'll pick it up, and because you're emulating and no impression is perfect it will become your own naturally. And then you get to watch yours shift and shift and shift and shift and shift and shi

3) as long as you're having fun, try not to give a shit about characterization, editing, etc etc. you attract the people who like YOUR style and your portrayal, and if people don't like it they usually, in my experience, simply click away. honestly not even because they're good people, but because they simply don't have the time or energy to write a bad comment. laziness as a sign of genuine kindness (?) maybe so

4) I know everyone always says comments & kudos & bookmarks don't matter as long as you're having fun, and maybe to some people they don't, but if they do that's Okay. because that's a piece of you. they matter to plenty of people, including me!! It makes sense to share something and want to see your efforts rewarded. try to find a person in the fandom you're writing for, whether it's thru tumblr or ao3 comments or twitter or Whatever, & if you click, stick to em like glue, because they're about to be Spammed With Snippets. you gotta find a pal to be absolutely unhinged with

5) If you get stuck, skip. I can't tell you how many random snippets I have floating around for different ideas, or the same idea at different points in the writing timeline, stuff like that. If you have an idea in your head then write That; don't worry about the other stuff. That can come later

6) Speaking of getting stuck, if you're stuck at a particular part, just write out the dialogue or the action without any fancy phrasing. Whenever I get stuck I just start describing what I want to happen, and for me, it sometimes evolves into me picking up the narrative again. You can go back later to properly describe how kevin was eating his ham sandwich

7) have fun in your author's notes. go batshit. people love to see batshit & if you love to be batshit then embrace that so hard. be so so so so cringe and awkward and nerdy. i love to see a person having a good ol fashioned insane time & I know a bunch of people who do too

8) don't worry about editing if you don't want to. honestly it's so overrated. i once edited a chapter three times and had THREE OTHER PEOPLE read it through to make sure everything read well, and we ALL missed the fact that 5 guys + 6 guys most DEFINITELY does not equal 13 guys. in any situation at all. it was a laugh, helped me to not take things so seriously. I recently went back to have a laugh & even though I edited it to fix it at the time the comments pointed it out, there was STILL A COUPLE OF ADDITION MISTAKES THAT I MISSED AND NEVER FIXED. IT'S BEEN TWO YEARS FJDJDJWK. you learn to laugh about that stuff, that's the whole point i think

9) please don't be afraid to mess around with setting & aus and such. feel free to turn that character into a cat Just Because. not everything needs an explanation & sometimes it's just more fun to be like "yeah idk he's a cat now Because I Say So! enjoy the chapter & if you like leave me a comment or a kudos!! 1 comment = 1 meow" just be totally unashamed of your good time, whatever that looks like to you

So after a thorough investigation of fb, you can't hide your tags if the post is public if it's someone else's post. All you can do is untag yourself.

You only have full control over your posts. I mean you have control over your tags but I know you're not removing and re-adding your tags. I tested it with my multiple fb accounts bc I had to know. I'm actually a, "victim," of the metaverse/keyword data tracking. I went on my computer and searched first name last name family reunion, bam its there. First name last name ex husband's name bam.

So If I haven't terrified you and made you think I'm a complete psychotic mess, I mean you probably were waiting for me to make this discovery. Although I'm going to be real.

You're scared of me, you think I'm a crazy stalker, that I'm insane and you prob only come to my tumblr to make sure you and your family are safe.

I probably scared the shit out of you posting about your divorce, I could only imagine. I didn't type in info to find the photos, Elise. All i typed was your first and last name and fb constantly changed what was tagged under your name... and I thought you were communicating with me bc when I searched things up about tagging and fb I couldn't find direct answers.

Anyways If you aren't scared of me, I'm sorry I lost myself. I guess I'll check your actual fb occasionally like once a month or something. Cause that never changes and generally that's all you have control over. Unless you want to untag and re-tag yourself which isn't realistic.

Entry 1.6.4-2 - The Oakenhall of Timberport

Welcome to my blog. I’m not tagging anything but entry #, so sorry if my unrelated mess somehow ends up in your search.

Just realized 1.6 came out in 2013 so we're now in a 10 year old edition, slowly catching up.

I'm wondering if maybe I should focus on more farming, just grind in my existing plains biomes especially since acacia/dark oak is being added in 1.7. Then I considered waiting until 1.7 to roam for horses, but if I run into a roofed forest then, I might lose access to a woodland mansion (not added until 1.11) so I truly can't wander much until biomes and caves are locked in.

This adds an interesting aspect to my gameplay, since usually in a Normal™ minecraft world I will typically wander too far from my base, die, have no idea where I was, and give up. Hence why my last major world project was hardcore. I hate being locked into hard mode but I acknowledge that I am not a good enough gamer to play on hard all day every day.

Tangent aside, I'm going to be stuck in 1.6 for a while I think. Which is disappointing, because I am Very excited for afk fish farming in 1.7 but can't upgrade.

If I'm going to be here for a while, I'm going to spend some time properly constructing buildings around the village. I've been doing little bits of terraforming and tearing down houses, I think my (kind of ugly) house) is one of the few buildings left standing. I'd like to relocate my house, maybe to the top of the mountain above Giratina, but I don't know.

I think this location would be good for a better hotel/inn setup than I currently have, I scaled down a "modern" build I saw on google for the previous villager housing and I don't think I'm a fan. Reconstruction time!

I do want to make sure I reuse these brick stairs for something in the new build though, bricks were (and kinda still are) a flex.

Also, because achievements reset again, I got "Getting Wood" for tearing down my own home. Incredible.

I think I could make a wheat farm underneath the housing, safely locked away from the villagers who will probably find a way to trample it.

[ONE WEEK OF GAMEPLAY LATER]

hey so uh. there were a few progress pics but tumblr ate my previous draft of this post. Say hello to Oakenhall. I played with fantasy name generator and kinda got stuck on a wood theme kick bc I want to use mostly wood for the village buildings and plant an illuminated (maybe more froglight mushroom themed later on) forest close to the walls.

It'll be expensive and time consuming, but I want to put logs columns where I would have placed corner stairs on the wall, if that makes sense.

like hiding where the wall corners meet.

Anyway, I wanted this blog to be a bit more journal-y so I'm going to start doing more weekly-ish posts where I play in small increments before work and *maybe* make more progress on days off, maybe. Then at the end of the week I'd just tour any unique changes rather than my current strategy of literally blogging while I play, which is kind of distracting.

ANYWAY. I want to make the most of this is a kind of taste of what the new entrys will be like.

This is the back of Oakenhall, I wanted to make some kind of back mural but with only a 3x5 area I just made it a little abstract rainbow.

This roof will take me forever I hate building roofs so much this is why I just squared off the old building

Also, can we talk about how time consuming wooden builds are?

Like between the walls and floor (don't get me started on accent logs) this takes so much wood. But also, I wanted to show somehow that this is plank floor so I used all the stairs I got from tearing down villager roofs as a kind of baseboard.

At the rate I'm going and how much wood I still need, I might have to take a break from building to enchant another axe (silk touch would be nice, even if its not on a pickaxe..)

I don't think I would ever make an automatic tree farm. If I'm going to build something from wood, I would much rather just cut down trees (getting saplings to hoard to turn into bone meal later) than have to create complex redstone contraptions to break the game and duplicate sand to mine the wood with TNT. Waaayyy too much work.

Between those two logs is the entrance, I have 8 doors and 8 beds on this floor. I still haven't crafted any paintings for the interior but I'm focusing on the 2nd floor walls rn so my wool is going to smth else

the 2nd story has 10 doors and 12 beds, I'm prepped for when they'll eventually need beds, and I may have some "accidental" villagers walking into lava so that I can get every profession here.

I do have quite the little collection of them now, I'm pretty sure they're ready to move into their new home. Could've swore I had a priest and a few more villagers but they could've wandered off or killed themselves climbing my incomplete demolitions. I did accidentally axe one.

Glad the golem is happy w/ the new place :)

I guess my next post will be next Tuesday if everything goes according to plan.

since I thought it might be helpful and I’ve been playing around with tumblr’s new shitshow of a feature, i’ve decided to post a little something on how i’ve been able to steer clear of my posts/reblogs/blog being hidden 

A lot of this is repeated info, and grabbing things from other posts, but I think putting it in one post might be helpful, and I specifically have things to add that might be more helpful for fic writers on tumblr 

luckily, i honestly think that fic writers are better off than gifmakers, who i think out of the content creator side of things, are the most affected by this. (i’m not gonna get into the intricacies of how fucked up this all is here, i’m just gonna post what i’ve found to help keep our community thriving bc i have no where else to go with my horny fics)

See this post for the basics. And here’s a post that contains the link to the list of banned tags.  A lot of stuff here will be repeated from there, but I’m combining some info here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This only affects iOS products. And I think even if you’re on an Apple device that’s not a phone, you should be able to access things as normal through your browser? This is the one thing i’m unsure of since I use a PC

ADDITIONALY: this only seems to be affecting the tags. I’ve tested banned words in the body of the posts themselves, and they still show up so long as there is not a banned tag. So there’s no need to worry about that thankfully.

Reiterating the post linked above, any post that is reblogged using a banned tag also will not show up on people’s dashboards. Even if it isn’t your original post, or the original post didn’t contain the tags. 

So just avoid those banned tags in all regards. 

However! I’ve found that there are some ways to avoid tumblr detecting tags. For example, one of the banned words is #piss, so i kept messing around with different versions of that tag. (no one @ me ok i just needed something to test)

Interestingly enough, #piss was banned. But #piss play, #p!ss, and #piss /, were NOT banned. 

So, small little edits to the tags do make them work completely fine. We can truly take tumblr’s shit and make it help us again. I just noticed in the document that it says at the bottom that even simply adding a period to the end of the tag works. 

If you have your writing tagged with things like ‘mine’ and anything else listed, I’d change that immediately or else your stuff will never show up. I personally suggest making it something like “silver writes” (that’s mine) 

This tag replacer notes that they suggest waiting to see if the change is permanent, because the tumblr announcement did say it might not be. Ultimately it’s up to you, but also note that changing a ton of tags at once can get you flagged as a spam bot. So perhaps create a temporary new tag, or change posts individually, or just wait it out. Dealer’s choice. 

If you’re like me and tag posts with individual warnings, you’ll need to double check that banned list and edit your warning tags. Most writers I know put their warnings in the post itself anyway, so this probably isn’t a huge issue. But having those above workarounds are nice for this. 

Don’t forget that your reblogs are affected! If you reblog other people’s fics, don’t let them get subjected to getting blocked on people’s dashboards! 

I know this wasn’t like a ton of new info, but hopefully compiling it into one post is helpful for people!

the main reason was 2gether. i made it during the final eps and i just remember seeing everything on my dash and being so fascinated bc it was my hyperfixation at that time. my friend angel had made a blog and i was hesitant to come back to tumblr at first bc my prev. blog got hacked and deleted and it was a scary experience for me. but i ended up doing it and i was super happy. also, i started watching thai dramas like around 2016 so it was nice to find all these dramas on tumblr again and even new ones afterwards.

she’s my wife 💍 (that CK shoot.... man. i edited it on photoshop and idk i like how it turned out and i really like the bg color. and how she’s holding a film camera as in to represent all the dramas i watch ;) or smth like that)
