post-s2. good omens mascot here, coping unhealthily.
This is the first proper post I'm writing since the audio breakdown, good thing I queued a POTC one last week, I suppose. Yes I slept through the entire day today, missed the theatre workshop I was supposed to attend and may or may not be listening to A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square on loop. Have an update on my coping because my social life and family are both Tumblr now:
Every song is about them now. A lot were before, but now every single one. Even an old Hindi song from a 1900s Indian military movie that I have not watched, by the way. But the lyrics (thank you Google translate) are: Everybody wants a handful of the sky, everybody searches for a handful of the sky, there is a world waiting to be hugged to the chest, the moon is a fair full of stars, but this heart is still lonely. And of course that makes me think of Crowley as the starmaker. Ow.
I made the very intelligent decision to rewatch the first three episodes of season 2, knowing what the Job minisode and the Edinburgh minisode do to me. I'll be here clutching Crowley, well, hugging him close to the chest, just like that song... ah, fuck, here we go again.
I listened to you all and am drinking a lot of water, since my tear ducts were emptied yesterday and now I'm unable to cry. I also ate too much chocolate.
I searched for sad Aziracrow edits and watched them. Don't look at me. I'm in a hell of my own creation.
I used too many emotions last night and now I feel hollow and achy. Maybe I should cope with humour and write the summaries.
Or maybe that will backfire and I will be filled with horrifying levels of emotion.
I slept. A lot. Many hours. Lots sleep.
So. Well. You know. Adopted child of divorce. You were all right, this is exactly like dealing with a breakup or divorce, but much more painful.
Someone please, please, please stop me from clicking the Crowley whump tag to find fanfiction.
I remember my initial Good Omens posts. I remember calling the fandom sad, desperate, queer and masochistic, and also pointing out how you all blame Neil and then sit and make headcanons that are a hundred times worse than canon.
I was so right. Look at me now, sad, desperate, queer and masochistic, making headcanons that are a hundred times worse than canon.
Wahoo.

Help me! Indians and/or James Potter lovers help me out!!
im a big fan of Desi James and i'm writing a fic at the moment and i want to include affectionate language (pet names) from all of my characters national languages and have been digging for some Hindi terms of endearment for a while and am a little lost.
a lot of the searches are coming up with words but not specifying which Indian language it derives from, and I just don't want to like mix languages and be stupid and inconsiderate about it.
anyway, so far i have "Jaan" or "Meri Jaan" which I understand means "life" or "my life" wich is fucking adorable, as well as "Mera Pyaar" (I've seen a couple of different spelling variations of this so please correct me if it's wrong) which i understand means "my love".
both are very very sweet, and i will be using them! however, i've been looking for terms more like "sweetheart", "pretty", "cutie", "handsome", "baby", and stuff like that. you know, terms that can be used a bit more casually, in the earlier stages of dating / sleeping together, before the love and devotion happens!
anyway, any help would be very appreciated. any terms of endearment you know, any extra information you can give me, anything at all that relates to Desi James that would be helpful for me to know is so appreciated!
also any headcannons you have about Desi James would be awesome! especially ones that like involve his culture and stuff like that. id really like to write him well and give authenticity to his character that i don't naturally just have. i am doing my research where i need too, of course, but if you have little things about him that i could simply just adopt or learn about would be so awesome because like, i wouldn't even know to search for a lot of little things i bet.
anyway, thank you!!! i'll love anyone that helps me out so so so so so so much!!
edit: if he were to say "star" or "starlight" or "starshine" or "pretty star" something about stars to someone as a term of endearment (or just affectionately) how would that be said / spelt? i hopped on google but there are so many translations and i don't know which would be correct in this context and im helpless! thank youuuuuuuuuuuu <3

notes to self; september '24 edition
people—friends and lovers and family—will have active and passive days in your life. they will not be actively present 30/30 days in a month (or 31) irrespective of how close they are to you and how much they care. only you, the MC of your life, is actively present every single day. so even if you date someone, they might be actively present 17 days and be around for the remaining 13 passively. and that's okay. that's why you have to be someone you can rely on, even if there are others who support you.
talking about your father the way you so casually do in the light that you do needs to stop. daddy issues jokes and oversharing is not very mindful nor very demure. and maybe it was cool at 24 but now in your late 20s, you have to step away from that kind of humour and TMI.
setting boundaries and reiterating them means that you might upset the other person. that's okay. you have to learn to sit with that discomfort (which is v hard when you are a people pleaser).
and you also have to allow the other person to not be happy/okay with it. to set a boundary and also have others be pleased with you is not a fair expectation. of course, those who are healthy for you, will respect it, even if not be enthusiastic about it.
most of the excitement you feel when dating someone new is only because they breadcrumb and are inconsistent so you get to romanticize them instead of actually find out who they are. when people consistently show up without love bombing, your nervous system remains regulated and then you can objectively know how you really feel about them.
others looking out for you is useless if you're not looking out for yourself. so your partner can text you and ask if you've eaten and your mother can remind you to take your medication but why? why can't you realize that staying nourished, hydrated, well-rested, and safe are things you need, want, deserve, require as literally the bare minimum. it's nice when others check in on you, but it's nicer when you also care about yourself to do these things without external reminders or being chided at.
work on your craft, work on your craft, work on your craft. instead of trying to assert your identity as a 'writer', just do what a writer doeswrite. and you know you do do that EVERY SINGLE DAY. whether in your notes app, on tumblr, your journal, or a Word doc. so let others yap on, you continue working on your craft.
having different people—people who are different than you/the people you usually hang with—can be so refreshing and fun because it exposes you to things/experiences you wouldn't otherwise actively engage in. pet cafes, clubbing, Hindi indie music being some of the things such people in your life have exposed you to. it's not that you don't know these things don't exist or can't access them, but to have someone to guide you/experience it with you, that's what's imp.
give people space. you cannot force answers or them to feel a certain way or to process certain things when you want them to. you have to give people space. and you have to allow yourself to focus on other things instead of anxiously sitting there and overthinking.

pavitr prabhakar ★ general headcanons
Tumblr media
content/warnings: implied/mentions of death (his parents+uncle), mentions of bullying, gayatri x pavitr, written by a coconut who is not indian PLS CORRECT ME!!
a/n: the sunny boy himself... (ugly crying) I LOVE HIM. loosely based off of the scraps of canon that i could find. maybe a little projection... (i am desi) atsv version pavitr! written at midnight and not very edited 💀
For some background, Pavitr was born in Southern India (likely Tamil Nadu or Kerala) so one of his first languages was Tamil! A village / small town boy at heart.
After his parents passed at a young age he moved to Mumbattan with his Aunt Maya and Uncle Bihm (of course) and it is very very different!!!
Obviously Pavitr has to learn Hindi and Marathi properly in order to fit in AND English my boy has to be multi-lingual from the start...
Even from early on Pavitr was bullied because he didn't fit in with the city kids. Gets called pagal Prabhakar (crazy Prabhakar — a bit like puny Parker?) and a slew of other names because of his accent, how he mixes up the languages, and the fact that he lives with his aunt and uncle rather than his parents.
Eventually by the time he's in his early teens he "assimilates" in terms of the language and culture but he's a scrawny kid so he still gets bullied... kids are ruthless bro don't you got the JEE to study for 💀
God forbid if anyone found out about his emo phase at that time... Pavitr's just getting onto social media and when he sees the emo subculture he just takes it and runs. (He stops out of embarassment when his Aunt Maya finds out why he's stealing her kajal... There are photos out there somewhere.)
Also meets Gayatri during his lil emo phase. Definitely a chill popular girl and definitely sticks up for him (it's giving Indian Forest Gump... does anyone know about that adaptation 😭)
He's a bit hesitant about Gayatri at first since the popular kids kind of dogpile on him all the time but eventually they become a little duo and he crushes HARD
Enter hopeless romantic Pavitr he is the embodiment of the song "Love Spell" by Param Pannu (Spotify link it's a BOP)
Plus you know he's in love when he admits he had an emo phase to you... in the middle of his emo phase. (Gayatri has all those pictures saved by the way.)
Then comes Mumbattan Visions Academy!! (according to the wiki that's where he goes.)
Of course we know that Pavitr is quite naturally smart so the entrance exam is no problem (RAFFLE BOY like Miles 😊😊😊)
But he is so super concerned about getting in with Gayatri so a few weeks before the exams they're studying together (doing anything but study)
My girl Gayatri is trying to help him out and he has no idea what she's saying and she's so smart and literally knows twice the amount of info you need to know so my boy Pavitr is sweating BULLETS the day before (exam is so easy he thinks he's sitting the wrong one LMAO)
Pavitr does NOT want to stay at the dorms he'll defo miss his auntie and uncle too much (and his auntie's cooking) but he begrudgingly goes anyway...
Enter NADEESH (his universe's Ned counterpart I totally just made up...)
They're roomies and Nadeesh is from Bengal and they actually bond quite easily considering they're not from Mumbattan he's a STEM boy and has a love/hate relationship with it (super smart though maybe just not at school... gadget stuff 😱)
Pavitr doesn't know a LICK of Bangla but Nadeesh teaches him some perhaps to rizz up Gayatri... (they're all vulgar or swear words or words Pavitr picked up from hearing Nadeesh's mum speak on the phone 💀)
SPEAKING OF GAYATRI yeah she's slaying school and also has a lil modelling thing going on too. STEM girlie and fashion girlie and knows multiple languages (her father knows a couple considering he's an officer)
Pavitr is a hopeless romantic but he's just hopeless when he asks her out in Bangla trying to be cool and doesn't realise he called her a whore... (he's so going to kill Nadeesh.)
She finds it HILARIOUS though and they start dating and everyone lived happily ever after and NO ANCIENT YOGI TIME MY BOY IS SPIDER-MAN NOW 🤯🤯🤯🤯
I think Pavitr's initial approach to being Spider-Man is very... impractical. Given he's just gotten his powers and gotten his naturally buff abilities and always amazing hair (yes that is part of his powers) (yes he asked the yogi for it), he's very spontaneous and disorganised. He probably has the stupidest most impractical suit and sweats like HELL in it (kind of like the one in the comics?) My boy's grades kind of take a hit and so does his little freshman year relationship with Gayatri.
My guy Nadeesh is chill though he knows instantly like Pavitr isn't subtle about it... (they're both night owls and Nadeesh is like cramming asf and Pavitr swings in without thinking and he's just like... "okay dude I have a physics exam tomorrow idgaf 😭 wait but that so cool though can I help—")
Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a— Okay his Uncle Bihm dies. You know how it goes.
Gayatri breaks up with him (it's exam season and she wants to "take a break".) His uncle is dead. He's flunking school (for real this time) Emo phase 2? Maybe not...
Pavitr ends up spending a lot more time with Maya and while he's a little irrationally spiteful he learns the importance of taking care of the little family he has left. Pavitr doesn't have the privilege of that multi-generational village household he had back when he was young, or parents like the rest of his classmates. It's just him and his aunt in that little apartment, a speck in the whole of Mumbattan, the place he has to protect and call home now.
Okay that got sad real fast but HE CHERISHES HIS AUNT hence why he always makes time to have chai with her, no matter how busy he is or how emo he's feeling.
His uncle Bihm had a couple traditional pieces of clothing and Maya makes him try them on. He feels a bit silly especially since he's gotten used to pushing away his culture and mainly speaking English at his new school but then his aunt starts tearing up and he starts tearing up and "you look just like your chacha" and UGH
After a while Pavitr gets himself together and decides to design himself a new suit. He takes inspiration from a couple of his uncle's fancier pieces and also Gayatri's first advert feature (my girl is going places!!!) so his outfit has a lot of meaning to him.
We gotta go BACK for the yo-yo though y'all. I'm so certain that Gayatri had a yo-yo when they were younger and he learnt it just to impress her... SO HE HAS A YO-YO AS PART OF HIS GEAR 😱😱😱
Of course these little signs add up and Gayatri is like half-sure he's Spider-Man (but not entirely cause when she's saved in the film she's a bit taken aback when he hugs her... my girl is smart but you always got a lil uncertainty!!! Maybe she figures it out after that though...)
Obviously he flunked those exams considering he was NOT studying while he was grieving and when Gayatri checks up on him he's of course not doing the greatest despite his little comeback. However...
"I can help you review if you want?" she asks him. Pavitr's smile comes back that day.
But my boy STILL CANNOT CATCH A BREAK because Gayatri's father gets promoted to Police Captain and is suddenly very protective of his daughter
There's a lot of awkward moments where Pavitr has to play off his association with Gayatri (puts the hopeless in hopeless romantic yet again.) No, she never told him they were dating before (and those pictures are in a SAFE trust) though they're not exactly dating now.
Gayatri is pretty indifferent about it all, to be fair. She doesn't exactly care if her father finds out (and hopefully she can tell him soon) but she also doesn't want her dad to be disappointed in her considering she looks up to him a lot.
A BIT OF GAYATRI HEADCANON but I feel like she's very academically gifted but doesn't exactly want to go into STEM? Fashion is her thing and she eventually might want to go into acting (like this girl in her classes called Meera Jain... OUUU rivalry but not really they're besties I fear)
Gayatri definitely gossips and gushes to Meera Jain about Pavitr like how he gossips and gushes to Nadeesh. They both give the other contrasting advice (they're still not together... SITUATIONSHIP 💀💀💀)
It's not as bad as when Pavitr called Gayatri a whore by accident but getting together again is definitely awkward when they go to get lassi at that very overpriced store that opened up that Pavitr most definitely cannot afford (smiles and fights to pay while a part of him dies inside)
Though their relationship is stronger this time! Pavitr does still have his secret as Spider-Man, but things are looking up! Especially when he finds out that he's not the only Spider-Man (ENTER ATSV CANON STORYLINE 😱😱😱)
Endless high school antics I love this dude and his lil friends
That's it for now I think THANK YOU FOR READING!! I so wish there was more content on him but I had to take matters into my own hands...
🕸️💫🪀
y'all better stop sleeping on pavitr now... HES SO AHHHH I LOVE HIM YOU DONF UNDERSTAND HES THE DUDE EVER
don't talk about my other wips. or why im uploading this at midnight.
ALSO if you are desi (particularly indian) please correct me OR FEEL FREE TO ADD ON i am so whitewashed and my boy needs to be done justice
reblogs so super appreciated! if you wanna read the rest of my atsv stuff click here :p

THE WAY I LOVED YOU (TEASER)
Tumblr media
pairings. actor park jisung x actress female reader
estimated word count. 3,000
genre. fluff, angst, mature content
warnings. jisung loves annoying the reader, lots of making out, thigh riding, size kink, friends with benefits (to be edited/updated)
“i’d like you to be the leading lady in the movie adaptation of my book,” yangyang said, “i really want you to be a part of this project and i think the character suits you so much, i know you will do her justice.”
and of course you accepted the project, it’s an honor to be part of your best friend’s masterpiece and you find the story really interesting after reading it. this movie is also going to be the first movie adaptation of his book and you’re very happy that he trusted you with this project. he is really an amazing writer and you’re very proud to be friends with him.
first day ng taping niyo ngayon para sa bagong movie adaptation project mo with park jisung as your leading man. you’ve actually met him a lot before through award shows and birthday parties of some of your celebrity friends, pero hindi mo pa siya nakakatrabaho that’s why this movie will be your first project together. nameet mo rin siya nung script reading niyo with the other casts, but you didn’t interact much with him that time, bali nag uusap lang kayo kapag nag babatuhan ng linya. halos lahat ng casts sa movie na ito ay first time mo makakatrabaho and you’re hoping for the best.
“sumabay ka na sakin,” it was no other than your co-actor, park jisung.
“ginawa pa kong driver niya,” jisung murmured, watching you sit at the back.
“may sinasabi ka ba?” you asked when you heard him saying something you didn’t hear clearly.
jisung chuckled and shook his head, “huh? wala ah.”
ilang minutong tahimik ang biyahe at natigil lang iyon nang basagin ito ni jisung, “have you eaten breakfast? may bibilhin ako sa starbucks, isasabay ko na kung may gusto kang ipabili.”
“my treat,” he added.
you shook your head and smiled at him, “i’m good, thanks.”
jisung nodded, but he still ended up buying you an iced coffee and sandwich just in case you have not eaten yet, he asked the staff for a recommendation, which is why he got the latte for you, while he got himself an iced americano.
nang makarating kayo sa lugar kung saan kayo mag sh-shoot ng unang scene ay nakatulog ka and jisung has no clue on how to wake you up. you must be really tired from taping, he thought to himself while staring at your sleeping state.
“y/n.. we’re here,” gising niya sayo while lightly tapping your arms, “y/n, hey, gising na.”
agad ka namang nagising nang marealize na nakatulog ka sa biyahe, “i’m sorry,” sambit mo at saka pinunasan ang pisngi.
he smiled, “it’s okay.”
“thank you ulit,” sabi mo nang parehas kayong makalabas ng sasakyan.
tango at tipid na ngiti lang ang isinagot ni jisung habang pinaglalaruan nito sa kamay ng susi ng kotse. you immediately rolled your eyes when you saw yangyang grinning watching the both of you walk.
“bakit sabay kayo dumating, ha? ikaw ah,” he asked in a teasing voice.
you rolled your eyes, “nasiraan ako ng kotse tapos nadaanan niya kami ni kuya kaya sinabay niya na ko, kung anu-ano na naman iniisip mo.”
“okay, sabi mo e,” yangyang chuckled at your defensiveness.
“doon ka na nga, hinahanap ka daw doon! doon ka na, shoo!” you pushed him lightly.
yangyang laughed at your words, “enjoy your breakfast!”
jisung went to his shared tent with a co-actor and started getting ready for the taping, reviewing his script while his make-up artist were doing his make-up. he froze while reading the script when a spark of memory flashed through his mind. that’s why her perfume smells familiar to me, he thought to himself.
“jisung, ready ka na? we’ll start in a few,” yangyang suddenly asked.
jisung didn’t even notice that his make-up artist had finished doing his make-up because his mind was preoccupied thinking about you, “huh? uh— yes, ready na, susunod na ko.”

If you run across this blog, you have officially been sucked into a whirlpool of reblogs, ramblings and the occasional (really, Ish? Occasional?) brainrot over fiction. Do stay for tea.
Some things if you do stay over for tea:
- I'm fine with interacting with people of age 14 and above, but I understand if you're not okay with me. Just be warned: this is a 16+ blog, I may or may not post suggestive stuff. Read at your own caution, I am not responsible if you do.
- That being said, this is a safe space. Bigots of any sorts are welcome to leave.
- I'm not online all that much, so I apologize if I'm a bit late in responding to you. Feel free to send me asks.
Now that's out of the way–
Hi, the name's Ish, and I'm just a very awkward teen guy who sounds like a golden retriever but is not. Nice to meet ya. He/him but gender neutral's cool too.
I'm... supposedly an INTP (or INTJ? Still working it out), but best not to ask. I have an identity crisis almost every other day. Probably INTP. Still not sure. Help.
Please do not ask me to speak in Hindi, I will probably make you cry from how horrible my vocabulary is. Course B go wiiiiii
I also have a horrible tagging style. Sorry about that. Did I mention I apologize and use the crying emoji a lot? If I didn't, now you know.
Proud member of Girlfriend FC and La Familia Nami. Don't ask. It's too long a story. Maybe some other day.
Likes: Academia, books in general, poetry, animanga (I'm sounding super nerdish now aaa), talking to the peeps I like, fictional characters, COFFEEEEEEEEEEEEE, being alone (please talk to me though, I like you guys talking to me). Also, lazing around is a given I relate to Nagi so much. Please talk to me about your interests, I would love that.
Expect a lot of edits to this :)

you mentioned harivansha and from what i know of scholarly stuffs it's much older than bhagavata purana so why do you think it isn't prominently considered for krishna's life? and what translations of harivansha do you use for your studies? i'm sorry if this seems too eager lololol
I'm answering this ask a year late, so I suppose that offsets your zeal (in a really horrible way)? This has been in my drafts, I just forgot about it entirely, thank you for coming to my inbox to remind me again. <3
Yes, Harivamsha was written much prior to Srimad Bhagavata Purana, and is considered some sort of appendix to the Mahabharata, which again is of greater antiquity. We can only speculate as to its relative lack of popularity, and I would like to mull over my own thoughts on this a bit more. I'll make a separate post, possibly. Let me just give a small introduction on the Harivamsha instead.
A Guide to Harivamsha
REFERENCES I USE IN MY STUDIES: (in no particular order)
1. Harivamsha Critical Edition (as edited by BORI, Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute), EN-translated by Bibek Debroy.
Above-average translation quality. Compared to the others, the only benefit of this reference is that it lets one know what sections BORI cleaved—regarding which one must keep in mind that, as Debroy himself noted and as I observed in the course of reading as well, the editing of Harivamsha Critical Edition was in no way as well and expertly done as that of the Mahabharata Critical Edition (BORI).
2. Harivamsha Purana, Gita Press
The only complete and accessible translation (Hindi) of HV that there is. Great translation quality. You usually don't have to second-guess each line (like I have to, with No. 1).
3. Chitrashala Press edition of Harivamsa, Online EN translation by Desiraju Hanumanta Rao, A. Purushothaman & A. Harindranath. https://www.dvaipayana.net/harivamsa/harivamsa-cs-index.html
Very helpful, as you get the Sanskrit verses alongside the translated English ones, for comparison/tallying purposes.
4. Harivamsha Purana, EN-translated by M. N. Dutt (https://www.wisdomlib.org/hinduism/book/harivamsha-purana-dutt)
Most accessible translation; no big differences from No. 3 in interpretations. (I will take this opportunity to recommend Wisdomlib to practically everyone in this fandom.)
5. Krishna’s Lineage: The Harivamsha of Vyāsa’s Mahābhārata. EN translation by Simon P. Brodbeck.
Good translation, good language, immensely well-organised. Has family trees in a genealogical appendix.
GENERAL UNDERSTANDING OF HARIVAMSHA'S STRUCTURE:
The text is divided into 3 parvas, as follows -
Harivamsha Parva - This contains a lot of background information through the genealogies and stories interspersed in all the lineage talk. We get some important backstory for MBh, and we get some stories which you may find in most other Puranas. (Interestingly, this contains the Syamantaka incident. It was a really big deal, is all.)
Vishnu Parva - The main section of Krishna's non-MBh life-story, starting from his birth, the Mathura-era exploits (Kamsavadh, Jarāsandha's attacks), Rukmini-harana (my beloved), the Pārijāta story, and dealing with Pradyumna (his firstborn) and Aniruddha's (Pradyumna's son) lives as well.
Bhavishya Parva - The first chapters of this section are indeed about "bhavishya" (things that happen or "will happen" post-Swargārohana, prophecies about Kali Yuga, etc). Then there's a set of chapters that go into some of Vishnu's avatars (Varāha, Narasimha, Vāmana, in particular). These two sets of chapters are translated in almost all versions. Then comes the dicey part, the set of chapters translated only in Gita Press Harivamsha, and ironically, the most important part of Bhavishya Parva in my opinion (because it has major portions of Krishna's life-story. This section contains Paundraka's (and Ekalavya's) siege on Dwāraka, the killing of Hamsa-Dimbaka (Jarāsandha's closest allies that Krishna speaks of to Yudhisthira in MBh's Sabhā parva) etc. Invaluable for better understanding of Yādava politics, and kind of ties up some loose ends from MBh.
Lovers and collectors of obscure Krishna-katha (or even just Purana-katha in general), Harivamsha is the place for you! <3

So in (I think it's Henry's?) bio it says that he proposed to Evie in 1868 with some flowers (cute). And now that we know the og timeline is really short apparently - taking place early in the year over the course of two-ish months - when did you think Henry proposed and what did they do for the wedding? Did Henry's parents sail over from India to the U.K or did they sail to India and get married? Did Evie meet them beforehand or after they got engaged? (I like to think Jacob walked her down the aisle or whatever it is assassin weddings are like).
I'm assuming that the proposal happened before they got knighted based on their closeness and just their animations in the background before Freddy helps the queen out of the carriage and the fact it's victorian london (even if the assassins are taught outside of the usual social setting etc, evie was still raised by Ethan.)
I most definitely do not think Evie would have met Arbaaz or Praya before they got engaged considering the boat over would have taken like what 4 months minimum iirc.
Could not tell you about what i think their wedding is like as I don't really know some of the wedding customs of India (punjabi or kashmiri or even if there is a difference, not to mention the differences there's likely to be between islamic or hindi weddings) , and I do think it'd at least be a blended/fusion (???) wedding.
Edit: i also forgot to mention is that we do in fact see the proposal in game which i another reason why i think it happens at some point close to the main story

HELLOO. i see you reblog a lot of hindi cinema!! i would love to watch more of it, what are your top 10 favorites?
🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍
this might be my favorite thing I've received in my inbox.
wh I well I wh how could I possibly refuse hee hee hee hee
limiting this to hindi cinema helps!! or so I thought, before I went through several rounds of intense interrogation and several scribbled pages of notes and realized this just outs me as a baby shah rukh khan stan, which I am. I resisted every impulse to try to make the list broad and varied and kept only repeating 'what are your FAVORITES, what are your FAVORITES' and even then narrowing everything down was really painful... I feel like I've watched very many but then not very many at all.
There are another half-dozen more I had to cut with great anguish (Paheli, Ram-Jaane, the Don films) OMG EDITED TO FINISH MY FRIGGIN SENTENCE: BUT I PRESENT TO YOU AND TO ALL: VI TSUPERTSUNDERE'S TOP TEN:
Tumblr media
Mohabbatein ("Love Stories", dir Aditya Chopra, 2000)
A young men's college ruled by a headmaster who disdains love--can one music teacher help three love stories grow, and let love tower above all? ✫ My first hindi film. Still can't think of a better introduction. Truly has it all. My favorite ghost story also!! ✧ Standout number: the three ingenues have an incredible dance sequence - it's the emotional climax of the film for me.
Tumblr media
Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai ("Say You Love Me", dir Rakesh Roshan, 2000)
When Rohit, an aspiring musician, meets Saxena, a rich bussinessman's daughter, his dreams of stardom glimmer right within his reach. Life has other plans. ✩ Hrithik Roshan's debut - and what a debut! My first introduction to a beloved facet of hindi cinema - double roles!! ✫ Standout number: The number that takes place in Cafe Indiana, Ek Pal Ka Jeena, accurately conveys how it felt like to go to a Rainforest Cafe when I was very young. Truly thrilling!
Tumblr media
Muhjse Dosti Karoge! ("Will You Be My Friend!", dir Kunal Kohli, 2002)
Childhood friends Raj, Tina, and Pooja are caught in a classic love triangle - Pooja loves Raj, but he only has eyes for Tina. When he moves away, Pooja poses as Tina as they email back and forth and their friendship blossoms long-distance. A decision made in childhood brings problems to Pooja's doorstep - as they all graduate high school and become adults, Raj returns home... ✧ Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor are the real MVPs here - shining stars in every movie they're in. ✩ Standout Sequence: The medley, seen above, brought me to my fucking feet when we first watched it. The characters diagetically are singing these popular songs for each other at a wedding celebrations - each song's lyrics weave in and apply on multiple levels, depending on who knows what and what they mean, up to and including Hrithik Roshan reprising Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai! Genuinely one of my favorite sequences I've seen period on film, if I could ever put together anything half as layered I'd be patting myself on the back forever.
Tumblr media
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... ("Through Smiles and Through Tears", dir Karan Johar, 2001)
The wealthy Raichand family splits in half when elder son Rahul falls in love with a lower-caste girl and marries her - younger son Rohit watches his beloved brother disappear to England and the light in his home wither away. When he becomes an adult, he's determined to find his brother and unite them all again. ✫ These three fuckers as a dad and two sons just make a fascinating family together, let alone the kind of heavy hitting talent you get from Jaya Bachchan (indeed married to Amitji) and of course Kajol my beloved Kajol most of all. 'It's All About Loving Your Parents' is a much much much... much harder sell than I'm prepared to give - at the very least, it's all the drama I can watch in. ✫ Standout Sequence: Bole Chudiyan above is so much fun, of course, but Say Shava Shava is also a really great 'here's how fun things are when things are GOOD' establishing song. When Amitji says 'EVERYBODY' he is not asking!!
Those four films are a truncated highlight reel of the 8 or so films I like watching around the holidays!! They work really well together and I associate them with each other a lot.
Tumblr media
Darr ("Fear", dir Yash Chopra, 1993)
Kiran Awasthi has a freshly minted college degree, a bus ticket home, a beloved boyfriend in the Navy... and a stalker. A young woman is slowly driven mad by a ruthless specter who will stop at nothing to be by her side. As she and her boyfriend escalate... so does he. ✧ Truly breathtaking. A breakout role for SRK, another hit cementing Juhi Chawla my fucking beloved Juhi Chawla as the OG expression queen. My favorite horror film. Rahul Mehra deserves to be in Dead By Daylight so he can fight Leon in a twink off. Simply the bloodiest there is. My Halloween costume next year. ✩ Standout sequence: Any time Juhi Chawla is on screen and I'm not kidding.
Tumblr media
Chaahat ("Desire", dir Mahesh Bhatt, 1996)
When the father of a father-and-son comedy duo gets sick, his son, Roop, would do anything to secure the money he needs to restore his father's health. So when he catches the eye of a wealthy club owner's sister, he can't say no, no matter how much her desire consumes... ✫ Diametric opposite of Darr, now Shah Rukh Khan is the target!! As a carnivore girl lover I can't not adore it. ✧ Standout sequence: Chaahat Na Hoti, pictured above. This was the frame that made me sit up and go 'oh I have to... I gotta watch this movie right now. Right now.' And I was so right.
Tumblr media
Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani ("Yet, I Have the Heart of an Indian", dir Aziz Mirza, 2000)
Ajay Bakshi is a hotheaded, loudmouthed reporter - a rival media network hires his counterpart and superior, Ria Bannerjee, to try to take him down. ✫ A gag-a-minute comedy with more gumflaps than brains, just like our lead. Juhi is heaven in this. I can only describe this as 'I think this is what the guy from American Psycho THOUGHT was going on.' Was a flop - came out right after Kaho Na... Pyaar Hai and couldn't compete - but it hits the zany button like nothing else. ✧ Standout sequence: The inventiveness of the sets in pretty much every song is my favorite. CONTENT WARNING: There is an awful anti-Chinese gag sequence at about the middle of the film. The two leads pose as Chinese reporters to get into somewhere, and it's just wall to wall racial caricatures. I hit that ff button through it myself, a truly unpleasant marring in an otherwise goofy-ass romp.
Tumblr media
Chak de! India ("Let's go! India", dir Shimit Amin, 2007)
Can a disgraced former field hockey star turn 16 proud, contentious players from all over the country into one unified team as their coach? Can each young woman play her all on the field - for herself and for her team? ✩ A sports anime fit into one film, I wish it were several seasons long. Each girl is spectacular and is a joy to watch!! ✫ Standout Sequence: The character work is where this one shines. Bindiya Naik is my personal favorite (and not just because the instant I saw her performance I went 'omg, she's playing my OC almost exactly. I'd cast her in a heartbeat!)
Tumblr media
Fan (dir Maneesh Sharma, 2016)
Aryan Khanna is the King of Bollywood. Gaurav Chandna is almost him, but not quite - knows everything about him by heart, uses him as the light in his life, and Gaurav even looks just enough like him to boot. All Gaurav wants is five minutes of his time. Just five minutes... ✩ Eminem's 'Stan' as a feature length thriller that literally no one else could make. I can only quote this letterboxd review, because it's right: "even if there was another celebrity who could pull off tearing himself open to splash his own imposter syndrome onscreen, they wouldn't dare try...happy birthday to the only actor good enough to make his fans sympathize with his own stalker". I was SO upset to learn that this flopped. ✫ Standout Sequences: the practical and special effects used to differentiate SRK's two roles bar none some of the best I've experienced - uncanny valley is real here, and half of the horror is the ALMOST. but not quite.
✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✫✧✩✫✧✩✫
While I followed a loose, non-ranking order for the preceding nine entries, I had to save the only possible film for number one:
Tumblr media
Om Shanti Om (dir Farah Khan, 2007)
"30 years ago," irrepressible junior artist Om Prakash Makhija has only one dream grander than making it big in the film industry - to get a chance to act alongside his greatest inspiration, superstar Shanti. His wish comes true, but, well... some dreams, one lifetime is not enough... ✫ THE BEST MOVIE THAT EXISTS. THE BEST MOVIE THAT DOESN'T EXISTS. Don't believe me? Let these ladies convince you - when I learned that somehow The Coolest And Most Sparkling theater troupe on the face of the planet staged a production of this I literally got so lightheaded I couldn't see for a second. This movie came out when I was thirteen - if I had seen it then I think it would have made a huge difference. As it was, I saw it at the second most perfect time: when I was/am also a 30 year old irrepressible junior goofball, just like Om. Farah Khan is one of my favorite directors for certain. A film about the hindi film industry, I place it last also because the more faces you recognize, songs you can pick out, movie references you can catch, the better - and it's incredible even still. ✧ Standout sequence: I can't say the whole movie (... minus Deewangi Deewangi it's the Yakuza 4 of this movie) can I??? Let me just say - long story short, Farah Khan got the idea for this film when Andrew Lloyd Weber had her to choreography for his stage show, Bollywood Dreams. She thought the plot, a poor junior artist becoming a big Bollywood star, was eye-rollingly unrealistic. She could do better, she thought... and that idea eventually became Om Shanti Om. The climax is her proving she could do Phantom of the Opera better than him, too!!
✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✫✧✩✫✧✩✫
And, if you'll indulge me... in thanks for giving me a really fun thing to do today, I have one more film: one that I think you would like, based off of the vibes of the journal entries I got to read!
Tumblr media
Veer-Zaara (dir Yash Chopra, 2004)
An Indian pilot and the daughter of a Pakistani politician fall in love, but are wrenched apart when the pilot is imprisoned on false charges. He languishes 22 years in prison, never saying a word, until a young Pakistani lawyer is assigned his case and she is determined to see him freed... ✧ Certified Mom Movie and is an absolute banger. When I thought 'who would be a character who I could see Estelle looking forward to meeting for lunch', Rani Mukherjee's lawyer was right at the top of the list. ✫ Standout Sequence: My personal favorite, Main Yahaan Hoon, is the song linked above. It drives me Insane absolutely Insane - this depicts 'they're not in the room but they're the only thing on your mind' in a way seldom more effective!
✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✫✧✩✫✧✩✫
omg NOW I'm done for eel. This was a terrific exercise in tilling the soil in my brain - I'm really inspired by the all visual direction, the colors and depths, the sensibilities in general exemplified by the movies here, and hope to one day reflect it in my own work! I have to make the Yash Raj reshade shaders I want to see in the world.
Please don't hesitate to drop me a line about anything you find interesting here, other movies you've seen, or anything else! Genuinely truly always love getting to see your work. Thank you for reading!

Hey, your first anon here. I studied sanskrit in school but then i just left it after my high-school. Do you have any idea about how you'll start learning it because even i want to utilize the next few months I'll get after mid june to pick it up again.
I have no idea where to start except gathering the confidence to contact my sanskrit teacher from school whom i haven't talked to for years :'
hey there special anon, apologies for the late reply.
i don’t have a concrete plan yet. i scoured through a bunch of online resources and narrowed down on three resources:
https://www.learnsanskrit.org/ - it has a pretty comprehensive approach to learning sanskrit, and it’s free. i found some other courses/websites too but they’re not free, so i’m not super keen on them, and i found them less extensive compared to this free website. this one is for beginners as well as for those who want to skip the basics.
apart from this, i found this other website that kinda helps with conversational sanskrit, if that’s of interest to you, also free - http://www.acharya.gen.in:8080/sanskrit/new-lessons.php
lastly, i’m reading this book - sanskrit swayam shikshak by shripad d. satwalekar. i only found the hindi edition, not sure if there’s an english translation. personally, it would help me familiarise myself with the devanagari script. i also feel like the hindi version would emphasise some nuances better, which could get missed out in english - just my assumption though, i could be wrong.
so i’m gonna focus on the first and third one majorly, at least for now. i'm a complete beginner (didn't study it in school) so i've chosen these. if i’m consistent enough, i’ll look into more books and courses.
it would be a great idea to contact your teacher though, personal attention and recommendations can be really helpful when it comes to self studying a language. it might be a little awkward to establish contact again (😅), so it's upto you. if you do, please let me know the advice you get.
hope this helps!
if anyone else reading this has better recommendations, please comment.

Height: 6'0"
Age: 58 (season 1)
Weight: 145lbs

Synopsis
Heather was a suspect in the murder of Gray White. She was a drug queen who used to operate in Chicago until she was caught and arrested. She spent a few years in prison before her lawyers managed to get her out early on a technicality, and she proudly walked free. She moved to Grimsborough for a fresh start and to find new clients.
She knew Gray had returned to Grimsborough years prior, and Heather looked forward to… catching up on lost time with him. The two had a special business relationship, one that Heather enjoyed immensely. Gray was young, strong, and good-looking… It didn’t hurt that he was exceptional at following orders, either.
Approaching Gray with the offer to join her new business was simple; the man needed money for his daughter’s medication, and Heather offered him an easy way to get it. Plus, she was feeling generous and decided to pay him for… Extra services. The private kind.
Heather knows Gray was ashamed to sell his body for money, but he loved his daughter more than his pride. And the nights they spent together were filled with passionate lovemaking… Even after years apart, Gray still knew how to light Heather’s fire. She never wanted their private time to end… But then, two officers arrived to inform her that Gray was dead, burned so badly he was unrecognizable.
Of course, Heather’s love for handsome men couldn’t be stopped even when grieving for Gray. She was enchanted by the man who had come to interrogate her. The woman… Not so much. Sure, the female officer was beautiful, but Heather wasn’t attracted to women, so she was much more interested in her partner.
Though she might not have been if she had known Nathan had been calling her a bitch in Hindi…
Heather would be proven innocent of Gray’s murder, but that didn’t mean she wouldn't be going to prison for other reasons. After Adalet and Nathan made a search of her house and discovered drugs, Heather was arrested for possession and sent back to prison. She was furious at being locked up and forced to wear the hideous orange jumpsuits again, but she knows her lawyers will get her out early, just like before. It was only a matter of time…
(Spoiler alert, Heather will serve her entire sentence. Chief King ensured there was no way for her to get an early release after finding out about her inappropriate behaviour towards Nathan and disrespect of Adalet.)

Rules: List 8 tv shows for your followers to get to know you!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In no particular order, with explanations:
Harlots on Hulu (2017 - 2019): a colourful, well-acted, diverse period drama set in middle 18th century London, featuring prominently a canonical bi lead character -> Charlotte Wells (it’s confirmed in the written script of the show and Jessica said so in multiple interviews). I watched this show perhaps a bit too young given that the subject matter is… 18th century sex workers. But, Charlotte Wells was one of my early “she’s so me” characters and she was played wonderfully by Jessica Brown Findlay, also, Charlotte Wells at least her outward demeanour and appearance inspired my original character, Audrey.
AMC’s IWTV (2022 - ongoing): I am the target audience for this show, enough said.
WWDITS (2019 - ongoing): it’s about that messed up vampire found family/polycule the comedy edition. Also props to Taika Waititi and the writers for knowing pop cultural vampires.
TURN: Washington’s Spies (2014 - 2017): it is about that messed up found family/polycule — cause I said so, and, they’re spies and it’s the 18th century and American revolution this time. A new-ish edition to this list, I blame @musicboxmemories (affectionate).
Bridgerton (2020 - ongoing): I watched season 1 during the pandemic out of sheer boredom, I wasn’t terribly into it until season 2. It is of course, not perfect, but I love seeing South Asian women stay employed, also I love the aesthetics and soundtrack even if it’s not remotely accurate. It’s fun escapism and not as hefty as the other tv on this list, and that’s okay.
Hannibal (2013 - 2015): a new edition to this list, but, predictable, given how much I like horror and Anne Rice’s work. I fell down a tumblr rabbit hole and now Alana Bloom is another character on my “she’s so me” list. A win for the bisexuals.
Good Omens (2019 - ongoing): I read the book first, purely because I wanted to. Then I watched the show for David Tennant, then I related too hard to Anathema Device and Crowley, also… as a bi, I’m holding them both very gently.
Jhansi Ki Rani (2009 - 2011): I learned most of my early Hindi through this show! A Hindi tv show covering the life of anti British imperialist Rani (Queen) Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi, from cradle to funeral pyre. It makes this list purely based on the mental nostalgia I have hearing the theme song and because I wanted to be gender norm breaking sword wielding, Calvary bound, badass anti imperialist Rani Lakshmi Bai so bad when I was younger. It is half the reason I initially did horseback riding and spent a decade fencing.
tagged by: myself.

Women’s History Month: Nonfiction Recommendations
Sisters of Mokama by Jyoti Thottam
New York Times editor Jyoti Thottam’s mother was part of an extraordinary group of Indian women. Born in 1946, a time when few women dared to leave their house without the protection of a man, she left home by herself at just fifteen years old and traveled to Bihar - an impoverished and isolated state in northern India that had been one of the bloodiest regions of Partition - in order to train to be a nurse under the tutelage of the determined and resourceful Appalachian nuns who ran Nazareth Hospital. Like Thottam’s mother’s journey, the hospital was a radical undertaking: it was run almost entirely by women, who insisted on giving the highest possible standard of care to everyone who walked through its doors, regardless of caste or religion.
Fascinated by her mother’s story, Thottam set out to discover the full story of Nazareth Hospital, which had been established in 1947 by six nuns from Kentucky. With no knowledge of Hindi, and the awareness that they would likely never see their families again, the sisters had traveled to the small town of Mokama determined to live up to the pioneer spirit of their order, founded in the rough hills of the Kentucky frontier. A year later, they opened the doors of the hospital; soon they began taking in young Indian women as nursing students, offering them an opportunity that would change their lives. One of those women, of course, was Thottam’s mother.
In Sisters of Mokama, Thottam draws upon twenty years’ worth of research to tell this inspiring story for the first time. She brings to life the hopes, struggles, and accomplishments of these ordinary women - both American and Indian - who succeeded against the odds during the tumult and trauma of the years after World War II and Partition. Pain and loss were everywhere for the women of that time, but the collapse of the old orders provided the women of Nazareth Hospital with an opening - a chance to create for themselves lives that would never have been possible otherwise.
The Code Breaker by Walter Isaacson
When Jennifer Doudna was in sixth grade, she came home one day to find that her dad had left a paperback titled The Double Helix on her bed. She put it aside, thinking it was one of those detective tales she loved. When she read it on a rainy Saturday, she discovered she was right, in a way. As she sped through the pages, she became enthralled by the intense drama behind the competition to discover the code of life. Even though her high school counselor told her girls didn’t become scientists, she decided she would.
Driven by a passion to understand how nature works and to turn discoveries into inventions, she would help to make what the book’s author, James Watson, told her was the most important biological advance since his codiscovery of the structure of DNA. She and her collaborators turned a curiosity of nature into an invention that will transform the human race: an easy-to-use tool that can edit DNA. Known as CRISPR, it opened a brave new world of medical miracles and moral questions.
After helping to discover CRISPR, Doudna became a leader in wrestling with these moral issues and, with her collaborator Emmanuelle Charpentier, won the Nobel Prize in 2020. Her story is an “enthralling detective story” (Oprah Daily) that involves the most profound wonders of nature, from the origins of life to the future of our species.
The Doctors Blackwell by Janice P. Nimura
Elizabeth Blackwell believed from an early age that she was destined for a mission beyond the scope of "ordinary" womanhood. Though the world at first recoiled at the notion of a woman studying medicine, her intelligence and intensity ultimately won her the acceptance of the male medical establishment. In 1849, she became the first woman in America to receive an M.D. She was soon joined in her iconic achievement by her younger sister, Emily, who was actually the more brilliant physician.
Exploring the sisters’ allies, enemies, and enduring partnership, Janice P. Nimura presents a story of trial and triumph. Together, the Blackwells founded the New York Infirmary for Indigent Women and Children, the first hospital staffed entirely by women. Both sisters were tenacious and visionary, but their convictions did not always align with the emergence of women’s rights - or with each other. From Bristol, Paris, and Edinburgh to the rising cities of antebellum America, this richly researched new biography celebrates two complicated pioneers who exploded the limits of possibility for women in medicine. As Elizabeth herself predicted, "a hundred years hence, women will not be what they are now."
The Queens of Animation by Nathalia Holt
From Snow White to Moana, from Pinocchio to Frozen, the animated films of Walt Disney Studios have moved and entertained millions. But few fans know that behind these groundbreaking features was an incredibly influential group of women who fought for respect in an often ruthless male-dominated industry and who have slipped under the radar for decades.
In The Queens of Animation, bestselling author Nathalia Holt tells their dramatic stories for the first time, showing how these women infiltrated the boys' club of Disney's story and animation departments and used early technologies to create the rich artwork and unforgettable narratives that have become part of the American canon. As the influence of Walt Disney Studios grew - and while battling sexism, domestic abuse, and workplace intimidation - these women also fought to transform the way female characters are depicted to young audiences.
With gripping storytelling, and based on extensive interviews and exclusive access to archival and personal documents, The Queens of Animation reveals the vital contributions these women made to Disney's Golden Age and their continued impact on animated filmmaking, culminating in the record-shattering Frozen, Disney's first female-directed full-length feature film.
