Happy Anniversary!
“Nothing Left to Lose” is one of my favorite TTS songs, if not my absolute favorite. It’s probably between that and “Crossing the Line”. Anyways, I can’t believe this song has been out for two whole years! Huge shoutout to Eden Espinosa and Jeremy Jordan (as well as the rest of the crew) for creating this spectacular soundtrack! Seriously, it inspired me to create my own alter ego/villain song. I don’t know if that’s a good thing, but it felt good. I’m about to find the behind the scenes footage for this song because it’s just as insanely impressive. Long live Nothing Left to Lose! 😍🤩😍🤩
Happy anniversary to the boppiest bop

This is an appreciation post for Eden Espinosa and how she’s been absolutely crushing it with her voice acting for Cassandra this season.
For the Moonsandra, and this especially stood out in Cassandra’s Revenge, you can tell her voice is slightly deeper and more fit for the tone of Cass in that role. She makes sure Cass’s presence in the scene is known and honestly I think it’s a huge factor in why I love feral villain Cassandra so much.
In the deeper and more painful Cassandra moments, she does a phenomenal job of getting the emotion across and making sure you know how Cass is feeling and does it in a way that you have no choice but to sit back and feel sorry for her.
But I think this all really stood out to me in Once a Handmaiden. There was Cass finally coming to terms with Zhan Tiri’s identity and manipulation and her struggling with the realization that she’s been the bad guy this entire time.
How she can switch off the Moonsandra voice and go back to the pre-Rapunzel’s Return Cass voice to help convey the change in Cass’s feelings and motives, and she does it beautifully. This happened in both Tale of Two Sisters and Once a Handmaiden, and it really helped reflect Cass’s conflicted emotions and how she presented herself when she put herself in the position of the bad guy.
She does this with her songs too. She shines in Waiting In The Wings, really emphasizing Cass’s feelings of being overshadowed and forgotten and how she longs to be recognized. She embraces her new villain role in Crossing The Line, starting out conflicted and hesitant and slowly growing more confident. And Nothing Left to Lose shows how she feels in the face of her former enemy, and it shows the conflict between the side of her that knows she’s in the wrong and the side of her that finally wants to be acknowledged.
Cassandra is such a complicated character and Eden truly channels her emotions and feelings perfectly, and Cass wouldn’t be who she is without Eden really bringing her to life.

If Great Comet was revived on Broadway tomorrow I would cast... (a 4-part series)
part 3: the mostly good people
Tamar Greene as Pierre Bezukhov - Though he’s known on Broadway for being the current George Washington in Hamilton, he was trained as an operatic tenor and classical pianist, training that would lend itself well to doing a good Dust and Ashes. His voice is somewhat similar to Josh’s but with richer lower notes. Also, it’d be nice to have a Pierre that matches Tolstoy’s description of a “a stout, heavily built young man with close-cropped hair” (unlike Groban).
Tumblr media
Shereen Pimentel as Natasha Rostova - She did a cover of No One Else with Tyler Capa that was probably one of the best I’ve heard from someone outside the OBC Comet cast. Additionally, Maria in WSS is a very similar role both vocally and acting-wise to Natasha, but it’d be nice to see her in a production that doesn’t cut her big number and doesn’t have a creative team of ignorant white people trying to tackle race and all the other controversy that revival has. Also, the idea of her, Tamar, and Kuhoo harmonizing the “candle in the mirror” part of letters gives me chills (The clarity? the fact that it’d be the first time all 3 are played by people of color? astonishing)
Tumblr media
Nora Schell as Sonya Rostova - I watched a few of her performances at bway sessions just out of curiousity and was immediately blown away by the clarity of her tone and, in particular her Waving Through a Window. (I’ve watched it twice despite not being a deh stan in any sense of the word). I thought about putting her as u/s Sonya & Mary but she really deserves a principal role. Her voice is pretty similar to Ashley (aka my favorite Sonya) but with a brighter high belt so she fits the role musically quite well. Additionally, I’ve been a little upset for quite some time at the lack of people who aren’t skinny white women playing the role.
Tumblr media
Eden Espinosa as Marya D.: She has experience with weird edgy musicals about Russians directed by Rachel Chavkin (Lempicka) and slightly eccentric, frantic mother-figure roles (Trina, which is also pretty vocally similar to Marya). Few others have both of those things so I think she’s quite a solid pick.

I totally didn’t cut my hair short like Cass then try to dye it dark blue as a modern interpretation. And it totally didn’t turn out black like Cass’ hair as a result of destiny. Totally not what happened. Not. One. Bit. 😍😍
