Cemetery Reviews #6 - Chapinero Cemetery The Chapinero Cemetery is much more pleasant than it looks from the outside and in some ways is what one would expect the Usaquén cemetery to be like (since that one is already touching the green zone of the city limits). This cemetery extends for at least one or two blocks, the walls at its ends are well maintained (I love the checkered floor), there are some nice mausoleums and it even has a small green area.
It may still be a bit small to visit often, but for the place it is in (in the middle of all the urban and commercial center, the northern highway and 68th Avenue) I thought it was very well maintained, it is like a small oasis for the dead. 7/10

@franztropea takes us to discover Villa Maggiore Perugino, a former retirement home located in the ancient town of Curinga, Calabria, Italy.
This building, unjustly forgotten by history, is in a state of abandonment and decay, but it is still full of charm and elegance.
The villa was built at the behest of Major Sebastiano Perugino between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth and presents itself with an eclectic style, typical of the period, born from the mixture of stylistic features of various architectural styles (medieval, neo-Gothic, Moorish) giving something unique at the sight.
The building was donated by Major Perugino, a carabiniere who returned to live in Curinga at the end of his career, to the entire community and thus became the hospice for the poorest.
Today this structure is no longer in use but is flanked by the municipal nursing home entrusted to the Franciscan Nuns of the Lord.
The building is NOT open to the public, but the nuns and nurses are kind enough to open it without any problems.

Cemetery Reviews #5 - Usaquén Cemetery
Usaquén Cemetery is quite small. While most cemeteries are like houses, this one is more like an apartment; there isn't much space to walk around or see. Even so, the cemetery has its charm. It doesn’t have mausoleums in the center, while the smaller graves on the edges seem threatened by the roof above them, as happens in the central cemetery of Bogotá. Everything is well-maintained and managed, presented in its most minimal way.
There are a few special graves from deaths in the 60s, but most deaths don't go beyond the 90s. There are also several walls with many empty spaces, so devoid of style or soul that walking through the small alley makes one feel like they’ve reached the end of the map. There are no textures or objects, just many unrendered spaces. In the afternoon, when the sun sets, the entire cemetery feels like a mute space where the intensity of the world diminishes.
It is a simple and short cemetery; it doesn't compare to other more historical or elaborate ones, but it’s a nice space for reflection. As time passes, it can gather more history. What did strike me as odd was the date 1665. If this is the date the cemetery was founded… what happened to all the other graves that have existed since past centuries?!
