Today is Pi Day, NOT Pie Day (Sorry)...

Pi Day is to celebrate Pi, also known by the Greek letter “π,” is a constant value used in math that represents the ratio of a circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is just about 3.14….15…9265359… (etc). Today we can use fun to educate on Pi.  

Let's not forget that ironically it is also Albert Einstein's Birthday.  What a day to celebrate a mathematical equation with a brilliant mathematician.

I was stressing out about breaking up my Inktober feed, with this piece (pun intended) but then I realized that's not what Inktober is about for me this year. It's about making it enjoyable and stress free. As artists we put so much stress on appearances and making sure things are perfect and completely done to an unreasonable standard! I felt lonely without my family on this corporate holiday, and I created this piece to shout out to all the people who feel like they are alone on this holiday weekend. Last night, I had the pleasure of cooking dinner for a marvelous advocacy organization that helps families navigate and celebrate life within the autism community. In honor of the special holiday dinner and these wonderful crusaders, I made a dessert featuring two ingredients that don’t usually get mixed up together in a pie - cranberries and limes. This dessert is plainly called Cranberry Lime Pie, but there’s really nothing plain about it. With its gingersnap crust and whipped cranberry lime curd constitution (similar to key lime pie) it was sweet, tart, tangy and unexpected... just like all the best moments in life, especially around the holidays:) 🎄 Its been a whirlwind around here these past few days, jumping from my dad’s celebration of life party right into this funtime dinner, but if I’ve learned anything from my dad since his passing... it’s to say cheers more, to celebrate more. And to not only celebrate the highlights but also the everyday stuff... the good, the bad, the sad, the joyful, the busy, the quiet, the sweet and the tart. To celebrate life each and every way we possibly can because this is life and we are lucky to be a part of it. This year, I’m wishing everyone more pie in the new year! More unexpected pie and more celebrations!
