Some important tweets / CN / Abuse, DV, M*rder. ID Slide 1 / People have pathologized my stance on pandemic precautions by dismissing it as an inability to cope with change but I would just like to say that I am actually doing great at adjusting to the objectively different reality we are living in now. It's everyone else that cannot deal. @/PxnziSchemes on Twitter ID Slide 2 / I spent my twenties being told that I had to put up with toxic, abusive situations to get ahead and be successful and I'm spending my thirties being like, "oh so you're abusive?? This place is toxic? I'm leaving. Good day." @/YikesOnBikesEtc on Twitter ID Slide 3 / I'll never forget when I called out my abuser and someone said I should "kill the cop in my head" & read books about TJ. Whew, some of you transformative justice folks just use the medium to protect your abusive friends. @MayowasWorld ID Slide 4 / Capitalism robs people of time and the ability to think creatively, compassionately and critically. When people are unable to think they unfortunately rely, knowingly or unknowingly, on others, usually those in power, to think for them. Relying on other people as thought leaders isn't terrible if the people you rely on genuinely care about the most vulnerable people in our society. However, most of us rely on people whose goal is not that we be cared for, but that we continue to work, buy and dislike ourselves. @Nellie_Scales ID Slide 5 / Only believing abuse allegations if there's a conviction in a court of law means you don't believe victims, period. More than 90 out of 100 victims will never be affirmed in court. Putting your faith in the court system is tacitly upholding the status quo against survivors. @KatTenbarge I wish they could say that to Nicole Brown Simpson's face, but they can't. @LeaveHeardAlone "You won't ever know the worst that happened to Nicole Brown Simpson in her marriage, because she is dead and cannot tell you. More Reviews: Survival: The Covid Years
Thank you so much to @Zooloo's Book tour for organising Survival: The Covid Years 'book tour' and to her bloggers for their reviews.
Why I wrote Survival: 'The Covid Years'
I wrote the book so that I could feel better and so that I would come to understand and come to terms with what was the most difficult period of my mental and emotional disability.
For anyone living with a mental and emotional disability is difficult, living with a mental and emotional disability at a time when there is a killer disease on the loose, impossible. Although I was never in a position to change how the pandemic was being handled, being proactive and doing something to make myself feel better, eventually helped me to come to terms with the virus a little better.
The ethos behind the book
"By shedding light on her personal challenges through the pandemic, Ilana encourages the reader to explore the thoughts and feelings raised by their own pandemic journey. In this way she aims to unlock future potential for others, enabling them to move on from this enormously difficult time. A must read for anyone wanting to take positive steps after the challenges of Covid-19.”

📚BOOK REVIEW 📚
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I received an advance review #giftedgopy and am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you, Partner @Ilana_Estelle_Author, @RedDoorBooks, and @zooloosbooktours.
💬MY THOUGHTS💬
It's fair to say that none of us saw COVID or a global panic coming nor did we understand how long and the extent to which this would impact our lives at all levels. I've dealt with anxiety most of my adult life and like many, the pandemic sent me into a level of anxiety I hadn't known. I think the hardest part was all of the unknowns combined with a massive amount of people dying from this invisible killer.
Other reasons for my increased anxiety include my 90+ year old grandma being in an assisted living facility, my parents living halfway across the country in a state that did not lock down as much as Oregon did, and finally we unexpectedly lost my brother to a heart attack. Sadly, I wasn't able to go home for his memorial service and since it was outside it wasn't live streamed. v I say all of this to say, I enjoyed this book and can't fathom how difficult it was for the author during this time. I appreciate the author's candid tale is honest, raw, and vulnerable. In this book she documents her feelings and explains her story in a clear and concise manner. I was hooked from start to finish and found myself identifying with her in more ways than one. I highly recommend this book to all!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you’ve read Ilana's first book then you’ll love this continuing journey by Ilana. Ilana really shows you what it was like for people during the pandemic as well as her own. Ilana not only has cerebral palsy but she also has autism. Reflecting back its eye opening to remember what it was like individually during the pandemic in terms of emotional, mental and physical needs. There’s something about reading another individual's story that makes you feel like what you encountered is almost normal and that we are not alone. It’s lovely reading how someone that suffered so immensely turned their life into positive motivations. It shows that roller coasters are meant to be ridden and hurdles are meant to be jumped over.
Ilana really hit home for me and I truly found this inspiring, motivational and heart warming. It shows you how even how the pandemic is over it can still leave challenging emotions that people continue to struggle with. You really feel yourself becoming invested into Ilana’s perspective and there is so much honesty written in the words. I’ll be honest and during the pandemic I was lucky to have my family surrounding me and it really puts into perspective how naive I was with how other people were struggling and facing individual challenges. This is a phenomenal read and truly beautifully written.

Hugs For Introverts
We should not skimp on hugs these days. (But of course, be safe and all.)
Thanks for supporting Connie on Ko-fi [4-panel comic of a girl with a braid, musing that she has a hard time with dating apps, but if there were such a thing as "hugging apps," she'd...consider it.]

Whoever said Black dresses are boring and basic has never met me! There’s lots of ways to dress up and add your own flair to the classic #LBD for every occasion, and one of my favorite ways is by adding a bold, bright lip! speaking of bold lip looks, i Think I finally completed the never ending quest to find the #perfectred! it’s no secret that I’ve always been a fan of fierce #redlips, but finding the right shade that stays on and doesn’t bleed all over my face has been a major challenge, that is until I found @gxvebeauty by @gwenstefani during my first big trip to an actual #irl @sephora in MORE THAN TWO YEARS, because #pandemiclife, and discovered this absolutely amazing #liquidlipstick it feels amazing on my lips, tastes like cake, and best of all doesn’t smudge or transfer when I accidentally touch my mouth or try to eat or drink!!! I’m in love, the only problem is it’s currently only available in one color, and while this red is totally gorgeous, I need this formula in every color of the rainbow, please!! I love bright lipstick, but I can be hard to wear as part of every day make up looks, but I’m calling it now @gxvebeauty Is totally going to change the game in that regard and I couldn’t be more excited about the possibilities!! “We wanted to help people
We were smart and driven
We loved science and physiology, humans and disease
So we made a commitment
We signed up
It was an honor
We read thousands of pages
Attended hundreds of lectures
Pulled all-nighters
Took more exams than we thought possible
Finals week felt insurmountable
But it didn’t break us
It made us stronger
We learned statistics and biochemistry
Immunology and pathophysiology
We mastered genetics, virology and pharmacology
We read scientific papers and learned how to dissect them
Papers, not videos
It was an honor
We came running when you needed us
Literally, running down the hallway
To the ICU, the trauma bay, labor and delivery
I need help, you said
We can help, we said
It was an honor
There were moments that we thought would break us
Moments that drove us to journaling, to therapy, to nightmares
Broken babies.
Paralyzed children.
Dead pregnant mothers with three kids at home.
The wail of a mother whose son just died.
We bent but we did not break
We returned because you needed us
And we could help
It was an honor
Then there was fear
Fear of walking into our place of work
Fear that we’d be killed by going to work
Fear that we’d kill a loved one because of our work
There were tears and sleepless nights and anti-anxiety medications
But you banged your pots and pans
You sent us pizzas and called us heroes
You needed us
We could help
So we wore our masks, and our gowns, and our gloves, and our goggles
We decontaminated ourselves before going home and isolated ourselves from our families
We almost broke
It was an honor
How quickly the joy turned to defeat
Elation to rage
You’ve learned to do your own research now
You know better than we do
Gaslighting is your language
Your selfishness is astounding
You don’t want our help when we ask you to stay healthy
Yet you arrive at our doors begging for help at the end
You stole our resources
You hobbled our ability to help those who did what they were supposed to do
You killed our patients by filling our beds and using up our ventilators
We can’t help any more
You broke us
There is no more honor”
- Anonymous
This is a poem written by a fellow physician after reflecting on the veteran who died in Texas because of the ICU bed shortage.

Looking at these pictures I’ve taken over the last few days makes me feel sad. I look so depleted. Being sick with Covid has completely upended my life. The fatigue is relentless. I’ve had the worst migraines of my life, with searing light sensitivity. I’m plagued with almost constant vertigo, and my blood pressure has been so high at times that I’ve been worried about risk of stroke. I’ve had 2 urgent care visits and 2 ER stays. When I imagined what being sick with Covid would be like over the last 2 years, I mostly imagined gasping for breath and wheezing, with primarily respiratory symptoms. But it’s been more cardiovascular and neurological for me. My lab work from the ER last night showed elevated liver enzymes and decreased kidney function. It’s wreaking havoc on so many body systems. I’m grateful that I’m vaccinated and boosted, and I fell ill with Covid in the omicron surge (rather than the original Covid and Delta waves). I’m trying to get a little bit of exercise by slowly walking around my house. You’ve heard of Cupid’s Shuffle…this is my Covid shuffle. I miss going to the gym and having cardio workouts. I’m sad to lose my 38 week gym streak. But I’m resting, taking my vitamins, hydrating, and doing what I can to beat this. I hope you are able to avoid the intensity of this virus that I’ve been hit with. #covid_19 #covidpositive #covidshuffle #ervisit #pandemiclife https://www.instagram.com/p/CZbHvYwAbGi/?utm_medium=tumblr

Kaka-cellphone mo ‘yan!

#Bird #photooftheday Harpy Eagle by conservation #wildographydudette @kaigner. #Repost ・・・ “That moment your computer calendar reminds you that you had a Pantanal trip happening tomorrow—and because of Covid 19 it was cancelled. . I can’t wait for a better ‘normal’ than this. Hopefully it’s a reminder to all of us that if we do not actively protect and preserve the planet we live on, it will eventually put us out of business. I consider the #pandemiclife a serious warning. If we don’t heed it-and start paying attention to, and fighting for the environment-and against the environmental changes being made behind our backs-we will pay more dearly the next time. And there will be a next time-and even sooner—if we don’t stop our selfish human ways. #Mothernature isn’t messing around. . The Harpy Eagle is a species suffering the effects of deforestation. Being the largest eagle in the world, it chooses the largest trees to nest in; and lumber lords choose the largest trees to fell. It’s not sustainable. . Check out @rainforestalliance @save_the_choco @reservaylt @evertonbpmiranda @rainforesttrust @amazonwatch @survivalinternational @rainforestactionnetwork If you know of other respectable organizations saving forests and wildlife please add them in the comments. I hear you, you’re an anti-vaxxer at heart. Masks are nothing but chitinous impediments to a more natural way of sharing your mucus with those you really love (and with total strangers, too, btw) and washing your hands with soap is sooo Before Christ (2800 years BC, to be exact). I get it, I really do, but not getting a vaccine isn’t the only way to fuck your shit up (…and everyone else’s). If you wanna REALLY risk it and live life recklessly, just get a paper cut right now. You’re fucked if you put a bandaid on it because most aren’t completely waterproof and/or they have fun little crevices that act as moist mini-Petrie dishes of doom, and you’re fucked if you don’t because now you have an open cut in which almost anything would love to enter (it’s okay if you don’t believe in Covid—there are heaps of other amazing pathogens out there, like MRSA, tetanus, and necrotizing fasciitis)!
PS—Please use a fucking bandaid if you need one, just be careful with what you touch and how you clean up afterward. Replace bandaids frequently and clean your wound properly with soap and water and/or things like rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, iodine, etc.
PSS—This post was birthed after my realization that I would need to wear a bandaid during a pandemic, a situation that sprouted from an accident I had whilst watering my plants (please do not judge me, I’m a clumsy fuck). I’m fine, my small cut is fine, and the whole wielding-a-bandaid-during-a-pandemic thing went okay, thank you for your concern. Please note that I’m not a certified licensed medical doctor to trash mammals—always seek medical advice from your own certified licensed medical care team if you need to.
