“This shouldn’t be happening.” Rika said, staring through the bars at the frankly feral believer. “I prepared this batch of elixir myself. While bitter, the ingredients are are carefully chosen to alter the mindstate of the believer to root out all of their problems and leave them a blank slate perfect for our paradise, so what is causing this?!”

The believer next to her shook his head. “The only common factor is the elixir.  They return to a functional state in a few days if fed fresh blood - human works best, they can stabilize on animal blood but will be weaker and less intelligent.”

“So you’re telling me that our believers are vampires now?”

“Yes, ma’am. In as much as they fit the popular literature. We’ve kept them in the basement to limit exposure, so I am uncertain as to the effects of sunlight, but we’ve confirmed no injuries hold but a stake to the heart or beheading.”

Immortal believers? This could be useful. Rika blinked. “It’s noon. Let’s take this one to the garden.”

As they stood looking over the still-smoldering remains of a former believer, Rika sighed.
