I was thinking about Redwall, and how it's kind of a shame that (iirc) they're sort of locked into being animals from Europe, when there's interesting little animals all over the world, when I had an idea

Au where Redwall is set in South America. Imo it would work surprisingly well...?

Anyways, rambles on species and such below

Badgers- while maybe not as aggressive as badgers, size wise they'd have to be Capybaras. I can't remember if their digging is as important as that of other species, but if so then a species of armadillo, maybe the Screaming Hairy Armadillo. Or...maybe a porcupine? Maybe a Grison?

Bats- multiple species in South America of course, but Vampire bats are extra fun

Dormice- are not native to South America, so I propose that a type of opossum could take their place, maybe the bushy tailed opossum. They're more closely related to squirrels though, so maybe the Neotropical Pygmy Squirrel, or another species of dwarf squirrel.

Hares- sadly no hares in South America, but there are a few species of rabbit. Rather than that, what would be more fitting of the boisterous personality would be some sort of monkey honestly? And they form troops, so that's neat . Maybe a Mara? They're somewhat hare-like

Hedgehogs- again, old-world exclusive. Closest relative would be some shrew species. Personality wise I'd go with a Caenolestid, idk they just have the same vibe

Mice- there are so many different species of mice in that every mouse character could probably be a different species from one another, lol

Moles- no moles in South America, so...there is one species of pocket Gopher, Thaeler's Gopher, and I think they'd be a suitable replacement

Otters- Giant otters easily.

Rabbits- see hare section.

Seals- I completely forgot they showed up in the series at all. I'd go with South American Fur seals probably

Shrews- plenty in South America, even marsupial shrews if you'd like

Squirrels- lots in South America as mentioned previously. Maybe focus on climbing and they could also become some sort of primate

Voles- seem to not be present in South America? Maybe replace them with a coypu because of their water habits, or Guinea Pigs just because

Cats- since in the books they're wildcats rather than domestic ones, they'd be some of the many smaller wild cats in South America, maybe Pampas cats or Geoffroy's cat.

Ermines- appear so rarely I'd just have them be actual ermines from up north

Ferrets- maybe replace them with Crab-eating Raccoons? Or one of the native species of skunks?

Foxes- already in South America , pick any species you want

Pine Martens- another one you could fold into weasels, or go with a Coati or something

Rats- lots already, go wild

Sable- again, make 'em weasels or go crazy...maybe these guys are actually Tayras.

Stoats- yet another weasely guy.

Weasels- finally. They're just weasels. There are multiple weasel species in South America

Wolverines- same with the ermines, have them be actual wolverines

Hey guys! One of my favorite webseries is releasing new episodes and I feel the NEED to talk about it bc they're a small brazilian group of queer actors and musicians with a love for RPG so, yeah, I NEED more people to know about it and give them love!

This is the first season playlist, they have 2 full seasons and the third one is being released! Most characters are queer and I can even list which letter of the alphabet mafia they are later if you guys want to.

Also, all the episodes have English subtitles if someone is wondering.

But talking about the protagonists, we have (without big spoilers):

Vic - Human bard! He's the main character and wants to make his mom proud of him;

Fliq - Half elf rogue! He's been friends with Vic since Vic was a kid bc their families are pretty close;

2. what sort of music would they like? have you thought about what genres or bands do they lean towards? do they have a favorite song?

SO i mean she certainly has an appreciation for like. the autistic guitar in general i think. and flamenco overall. probably very into ‘traditional’ or just old as fuck songs. loves a good ballad a lovey tune…. jazz is also a big one i feel. fan of both the more bombastic improvised fusion-y stuff and then also just like. slow deep sad heavy leisurely tunes that she’d just listen to while idle. i feel like she’s a bit picky about vocals, probably doesn’t like anything too squeaky or ‘whiny’. to offer forth a proper band for her to enjoy id definitely say she’s on that like. snarky puppy type shit. probably much more into instrumental music overall….

7. favorite animal? why?

ahhh thinking about casual preference…. i think she’s just fond of like. small pet type animals. enjoys a guinea pig enjoys a hamster. rabbits feel really apt for some reason? probably just finds them nice to handle while not being as big and imposing as like. a huge dog or something. finds them cutes.

her fursona’s a pangolin and naturally i feel like that’s also a beast she’d be fond of? or like an armadillo or something very carapacious.

10. if they wear jewelry, what kind? do they prefer silver or gold? do they have a favorite gem?

her preference for gold shines brightly enough i think hehe…. she evidently has her beaded planets necklace also and i don’t doubt her having like. maybe some bracelets with more dwarf planets or something that are just covered by her gloves most of the time. oh and also she’s got her small diamond shaped earrings :+) which leads me to saying i think she reveres diamonds most of all. no significance to this. no potential relation to be made to some other guy.

18. their opinion on lying, stealing, and killing?

“avoids it but it’s sometimes made necessary” for all 3. i think. she was like very much willing to kill mazin to prevent him hurting anyone else on the train but that was only in retaliation for lusine’s death…. i think she’s like. very deliberate about wishing any kind of harm to other people probably overextends the benefit of the doubt most of the time but mazin like. very definitively confessed to a murder and she took it as an open permit to invoke the same fate onto him. ah well

23. how would you describe their voice? can they sing?

i imagine her voice as like. very deep very sweet and “warm”. always sounds very trilled and musical even if she’s kind of monotone. i think she’s fine at singing also probably can’t sing anything like. overly high or technical but she’s good at running through slow syrup-y tunes….

28. how do they show that they care about someone? how do they express that they don’t like someone?

i think she’s just generally very into like. small bits of physical affection like hugs and hand holding and she doesn’t really think much of it. but is kind of shy about vocalising how much someone means to her haha would be very curt and matter of fact about it just out of embarrassment. she plays it off SO cool though. on a more removed level to like an acquaintance i think she just tries to be very affirmative and encouraging in the way she responds to said person…. she enjoys flattery a lot she enjoys deploying it here and there.

on the contrary i don’t think she’s like. really outwardly emotional enough to change in demeanour much when confronted with someone she doesn’t like. unless it’s like outright detesting that person such as what happened with mazin. otherwise i think she’s not like any less cordial but definitely far more detached and sullen. most people probably can’t tell when she’s building up distaste even she’s good at burying it passably enough u_u but if you pay attention you��ll hear the difference heh….

Forget what I said about the Lionox being the biggest. The Pachydasy are enormous, dwarfing even the huge Lionox.

They reside in huge burrows in cliff faces, dug out with their claws

The spinal plates appear to be vestigal, but what if they're not? What could possibly threaten a Pachydasy?

Real quick non-penumbra related post (I know, gaaaaaaaasp, they can do that? Yes, yes I can—)

In addition to audio dramas, I like DND podcasts too — champion of my favorites being The Adventure Zone (balance arc, yeah—) I also play DND, wasn’t able to for a long long time (…never only play at the mall where your ex still lurks/plays folks—) BUT! I’ve been given the wonderful opportunity to play again with some friends from work and it’s going great lol.

But point is — sometimes I can’t help but like imagine, if my campaign with my friends were a podcast like TAZ and people liked it, what moments would stand out/be poked at?

And I have a wonderful answer, delusionally thinking it’d be funny as an animatic: the time I got kidnapped

I’m currently a water genasi, and it’s important to note that I am small. Tiny. They use me for scouting ahead — BUT! We found a hole in the wall, I climbed in, there was cool shit in there so those who could shrank down or changed into something in order to follow me in. Everyone could! …but one — my friend’s dwarf cleric (of fucking Scientology, it is the funniest shit ever—) Nacara. Nacara kinda just stood there and let us go.

Also to note: Nacara likes skulls. She likes to to collect skulls (even when they reanimate and try to kill us, she still wants them—). And while we were in this tunnel, she saw a (moving) skeleton.

I realized about then that I had a spell that could shrink Nacara, and since I was already small I didn’t need it. So I popped out of the hole, looked around and asked what she wanted to be.

She looked around, from me to the Skeleton shuffling away, back and forth. I kept asking what she wanted to be, and Riley (real life name) slooooowly looks to our GM and says “….how strong is Venus (me) again?”

I’m…not very strong —

So then we realized why she was asking— next thing I know I fail a strength check, and she’s decided she’s gonna throw me over her shoulder.

The rest of the party just flat out assumed I that I died —

I was then dragged kicking and screaming through a tomb, we talked to some undead dwarves (if you could call what she did ‘talking’ lol—), and in the end…girl didn’t even get her skull, she just walked my ass back to the hole eventually and I turned her into an armadillo—

So yeah that’s my ramble — I know literally no one asked for it, but my friends are so great and so dramatic (another one of them literally set off a little mini firecracker to accent the fact that he was smiting someone), it’s fun to think of what people would think if that were the case. DND is just so fun, I’m so lucky I get to play again.

February 4, 2IY 1

Our adventurers decide to leave Baachli after all, and fly across Dharak to its eastern fringe to investigate the unique township of Kroch, where Xak the fence told them he had found Ko the armadillo-person. Along the way, as they ask for directions, the crew of the UFO learns that Kroch is hardly a town at all, but some strange hybrid of independent city-state and private resort.

Kroch's high clay walls come into view, but little else can be seen through a dome of thick, lush foliage covering the entire little town - the walls encircling a tropical forest garden around six hundred meters in diameter. The crew disembarks and walks up to the gate, where a platoon of curious-looking dragonborn soldiers forms up. Their scales, not quite as smooth as a lizardfolk's, are in rich earthen colours, and they wear elaborate headdresses of foliage and immense butterfly wings.

A gatekeeper approaches our party, and Zilybar and Roy explain that they are a travelling band of performers who heard about Kroch in the west of Dharak. They would love to lend their talents to the resort town.

The gatekeeper accepts the story, as Arlex had been drumming a light tattoo as the gang approached, and Zilybar's instruments stick out obviously upon his back. The gatekeeper has the troupe wait under a little lean-to against the wall while he fetches a "judging committee" - part of the protocol when unannounced performers arrive at Kroch.

While attended only by two attentive guards, Zilybar quickly pulls his group together and outlines a performance plan.

When the gatekeeper returns with a panel of dragonborn judges, along with one bald and perfectly round dwarf with expressive eyebrows, Zilybar counts the UFO troupe in and they launch into a musical performance: himself on the trumpet, Arlex on her drum, and Nur plucking almost soundlessly on an improvised longbow bass while Roy provides accompaniment through thaumaturgical trick. The song goes badly, and Zilybar quickly has the group transition into acrobatic manoeuvres, the gnome tumbling around, beneath, and over top of Nur as the nomad shepherd rolls about on their horse. This goes over very well with the judges, the dwarf especially, whose eyebrows communicate extreme interest. Then it's time for story time with Roy, who capably tells a tale from his time as a constable as Arlex enhances moments with magical trickery. For a grand finale, the troupe returns to music, but this time Arlex summons her magical drake to dance. The gang finds an improvisational groove and ends with the judges nodding along.

The gatekeeper informs our adventurers that the judges will return within the walls to make their decision, and says he will return with knowledge of it momentarily. When he does return, it is with a face that tells the insightful among the gang that the news is not ideal.

He relates that, while the storytelling and music was decent, it was not up to the standards of the judging committee, so they were unwilling to extend the UFO troupe a residency of any time. However, they greatly enjoyed the acrobatic show, and are willing to give our adventurers an extended audition inside Kroch - they will be given a space to perform for a minimum collective time of four hours over the remainder of the day, and if they impress the clients and perhaps a judge that might come wandering by, a residency offer may be extended - though it must be understood that the exposure, connections, and environment (plus accommodation and partial board) are more than enough compensation.

Our adventurers are keen to accept the offer, and are guided within the walls after pinning on pretty boutonnieres, evidently an identification mark or pass of some kind. The moist air within the walls is cooler than the dry desert air outside, and they are immediately lost within a completely new environment. They are led along winding paths through rich and diverse flora - a remarkably lush garden of trees, fruits, flowers, and shrubbery.

Before they are brought to their performance spot, they ask to be led to a place to eat lunch, and are deposited at an open bar and grill where the chefs are actively interacting with the guests and putting on clever acts of culinary prowess as they create dishes.

When their own chef is asked about armadillo-people and she understands what they are referencing (a language barrier delays this), she shuts down immediately, and is relieved when the topic moves on. Nur asks her to toss a shrimp to their horse, but the horse is unable to catch it.

After their meal, the UFO troupe is led to a meadow upon the side of a gentle hill, which they are told is the venue for their extended audition. Provided they impress the guests wandering by and do not allow the horses to devour the precious plants, things are looking good for them to have some time within the township-resort to find what they are looking for!

A schedule of half an hour on, half an hour off is decided upon, and they begin! The main show involves the same tumbling and horse acrobatics that have already impressed the Koch arts authorities, but Nur and Zilybar also devise a new programme involving the latter shooting arrows at the former while they are blindfolded on their horse. Arlex and Roy enhance these acts with magic. Roy also convinces an official to get him a bag of human bones (found as polished rune artworks in the gift shop), and he conjures two and a half mismatched skeletons to dance along the garden paths drawing audience members to their meadow.

When the roly-poly dwarf stops by later in the afternoon, the gang pulls out all the stops and Roy turns Nur's horse invisible.

In the early evening, an interesting guest stops by to watch: a well-dressed drow male with his young daughter in a mobility device - oh, and a blue-flaming skull hovering over his shoulder.

Nur is about to forcefully yank the young lady into participating in their acrobatics when Zilybar intervenes and tells the nomad to maybe ask first. Nur does, and the girl is eager to jump in! The agile horsewrangler takes the young drow for a terrific ride full of minor feats of gymnastics. She is returned to her father glowing with delight, and a dancing skeleton arrives with a souvenir: a beat-up doll Roy found upon the king-of-the-world's island. After the performance, the noble drow thanks the troupe and gives Zilybar a substantial tip.

At some point in the day, Roy's sharp senses lead him to notice a small, robed figure moving through the foliage of the garden, off the path.

Aside from a few painful arrows not successfully blocked or dodged, the shows are a terrific success through the day - and by nightfall, the gatekeeper arrives to relay good news: the UFO troupe has impressed the judges and the guests (one Lord Shinonome was especially complimentary) and would they like to perform every other day in this spot for the next two weeks?

Our adventurers are delighted to accept.

But I did some digging and unfortunately I agree that purgatory needs help. sshe keeps getting more animals and I noticed that she carelessly trades them around like collectibles. A lot of her posts paint an alarming picture of the care these animals recieve

for example, one of her geckos died today the 10th, and she only had that skunk gecko since December 1st 2022. She had it for less than a month and a half before it died. Other animals have also died pretty early in her care. She wants to become a snake breeder and its obvious shes getting her information from other bad caretakers and breeders

She admitted to having all of these animals. She lives in a 1 bedroom house and most things are kept in tiny containers.
