My first attempt at a battle map and terrain.
This is the map for the final boss battle in Critical Role's Call of the Natherdeep where the tortured the Apotheon awaits the players in order to receive their final judgement.
The base and islands are carved from 1x2x2 project panels from insulation with the little bits of temple ruins are left overs bits from a friend's project and are some kind of dental paste using for molds. I'm not really sure tbh but when friends inform enough to carve and paint into.
The top is painted island blue with a clear resin poured over. Also a first as I've never worked with resin before.
And yes, for all you sharp eyed nerds out there the bronze statue of the Apotheon is in fact critical roles miniature for Kash! Clerics really are so versatile 🖤🧡

I've been making cave terrain with my new best friend Fiber Paste
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can't believe these are finally done! Took forever lmaoo
Some of the stalagmites are just scrap polymer clay I mushed up and painted and they match fine enough I think. I used various foams for the rest- the flat ones are cheapo craft foam i glued together in layers and the chunky ones are packing foam I chopped up and stabbed skewers into.
I coated everything in (white) gessopodge then added the fiber paste- gives them a stone texture and fills in all the holes, and I could also make little peaks in it for some extra stalagmites.

After it dried I primed them in black and did the basic dry brushing.
The hardest thing was definitely the cave pools cus I kept trying other mediums and fucking it up, but in the end I bit the bullet and bought some casting resin. (Used that on my swamp too)
Will probly make some scans of the DM screen I'm working on (painting in the background) as soon as I get some hinges for it

What is best in life? To throw your dice, see them rolling before you, and to hear the lamentations of your players. That is good!

Enough rumors of the spring abounded that we were certain we had the right trail. A spring housing a mirthful spirit, ready to grant boons to those with the coin.
Did we step off the path without noticing? Or take the wrong fork in the trail? Surely we had. This could not be the great spirit we were promised.
(You can see videos of this diorama on my tiktok!)

As promised, pictures of my amateur terrain making. It's not too bad, I'm just not happy with it. But I think I can fix it 🤔

Most early dungeon terrain sets were flat 2-D designs, with the occasional 3-D version made as a homemade DIY craft project, but TSR eventually released their own cardstock dungeon in 1984, AC3: 3-D Dragon Tiles featuring The Kidnapping of Princess Arelina. The tiles, walls, and figures were by Dennis Kauth and Jim Roslof, with a short adventure by Garry Spiegle intended for use with either D&D or AD&D.
I wonder whether this was created in response to that scene in E.T. which may have created some expectations about what a D&D game should look like on the table.

Dungeons and Dragons and Tiles and Trees
Tumblr media
I've got a DnD Enchanted Forest campaign planned for some time next year and (for once) it's actually in person! So being the over planner I am, I set about making some tiles for encounters to take place on!
(More under the break)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These tiles are in two sizes: 3" and 6" squared. They're made from XPS foam, based with Vallejo texture paste and covered in static grass.
The rocks are made of foam (big ones) and actual gravel (tiny ones), the foliage is mixed herbs and there's a little bit of Green Stuff World leaf litter (although cheaper, just as good versions exist...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of the tiles also have magnets in their surface which can hold little bits of twig and branch (also magnetised) to act as trees!
Honestly, crazy proud of how well they've turned out, with a bunch more still to go. Big shout out to "Rae'Chel Does Wonders", the Youtube channel who's guides I followed to make these!

I always space out on posting wips but I'm building a castle rn and it's large
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The base is fairly simple- I built it out of pizza boxes and could probably make up a pattern for it easy if I ever wanted to build another one. Currently gluing individual craft foam bricks all over it.
I cut up a bunch of plastic packaging for the windows and drew the lines on with an oil based paint pen. (sticks the best) The stained glass is gloss gel (soft) mixed with a teeny tiny bit of paint.
I still wanna build some platforms for the inside and string lights all through the thing- there'll be torches on the front and the towers will light up
Gotta trust the process lol

Photoset of my modular dungeons and dragons tile set that I made. 40pcs in all, it's got dragon claw marks and acid damage as the dragon fight I built it for was an acid breathing dragon so I eroded the pillars to create acid damage. The full tile pieces have moss added to them also.
I'm selling this set as I haven't used it in some time. DM me for details 👍
