My Homestuck cosplays from Comic-Con. Yes, that's Duff Goldman with me-as-John - he had a panel, and after, he not only took photos with everyone, he gave us each a cookie he had baked (the cookie from Kung Fu Panda).

Duff Goldman’s Kellogg’s NYC Residency Menu
Food AND Drink
Type of Funny Food: Event
Introduced: September 2018
Location: Kellogg’s NYC
Tumblr media
Kellogg’s NYC is a now-closed “cereal cafe” that took up residence in Times Square- and then Union Square- from 2016 to 2019. In that short time, the cereal giant-owned cafe hosted a number of events, including one for National Cereal Day, and another for Pop-Tarts.
Another of these events was a two-day residency helmed by famed pastry chef and ‘Ace of Cakes’ Duff Goldman. Goldman created his own cereal-themed menu for the occasion, which included food- main course and dessert alike, and one drink!
The menu options were:
Tumblr media
Corn Flakes Crunchy Mac ‘n’ Cheese, a baked bacon mac and cheese topped with Corn Flakes,
Tumblr media
Special K Red Berry Yummy Frisée Salad, a curled endive salad with Special K Red Berry croutons, whole grain mustard vinaigrette, and cranberries, served with Corn Flakes-baked potatoes au gratin,
Tumblr media
Snap Crackle Poppin’ Matzo Balls with Chicken Soup, Rice Krispies-based matzo balls in vegetable-filled chicken soup,
Tumblr media
Kellogg’s Krispie Fish Sticks, Rice Krispies and Corn Flakes-battered cod sticks served in an actual fish bowl with your choice of assorted sauces,
Tumblr media
Sunny-sensational Lahmajoun, a Turkish flatbread made with with bran dough drizzled with labneh and mint and covered in date puree, raisins, shredded haloumi, tumeric parsley pesto, lamb and sesame Raisin Bran sausage, and diced white onion,
Tumblr media
Big Apple Jacks Bowl, a caramel-drizzled “deconstructed” caramel apple with a “snickerdoodle surprise” and peanut candy clusters, served in an event-exclusive bowl designed by Goldman,
Tumblr media
Frosted Flakes Pumpkin Spiced-Up Rompope, a drink filled with Pumpkin Spice Frosted Flakes custard and topped with Frosted Flakes streusel and cinnamon whipped cream,
Tumblr media
G-r-r-reatest Banana Kream Pie Ever, a maple-cinammon banana cream pie with Frosted Flakes crust with milk chocolate and Krave inside,
Tumblr media
and the Not So Mini Mini-Wheats Upside Down Cake, a pineapple and Frosted Mini-Wheats cake a la mode with pan-toasted Rice Krispies.
Interestingly, one offering was present in advertising for the event, but didn’t seem to make it to the official menu. This was some flavor (ha) of Froot-Loops-themed macaron and cookie with a color-changing rainbow custard that came out of a toothpaste tube.
Tumblr media
Donations made during the short residency were given to the charity No Kid Hungry. Customers could also buy themed merchandise, such as the aformentioned Duff-designed cereal bowl.

Sam, I hesitated to call this a new trend without proof, but I think three movies pretty much proves it: the new thing in Hallmark-esque Christmas movies is having them based around reality tv stars' show premises. So far, there's Hilary Farr (of Love It or List It) with an interior-decorating themed movie, and both Bobby Flay and Duff Goldman have cooking-themed movies coming out.
I am filled with that kind of horrified fascination you get upon realizing that you're watching a figurative (not literal) car crash in the making.
And I'm dying to know: what kind of holiday movie does Eddie Rambler reluctantly/excitedly allow himself to be dragged into when he realizes it's the only way to keep the Flay-expy from gaining more influence over the food world?
I wonder if they're all by the same production company. That genre of film, the Hallmark/Lifetime-ish low-budget, made-in-four-weeks type, has to churn out content like crazy and there are only so many ideas in the world. It's entirely possible there's one company that's just...doing all of these because they have a pre-existing relationship with the shows they're drawing from, and it doesn't pull the star away from their life for very long. Filming on a Hallmark number is literally 4-8 weeks tops.
There was a minute there where a lot of the Hallmark films had a famous female vocalist as the lead as a way to pull people in, this might be the next wave of that kind of thing.
It would be deliciously recursive to do a Shivadh novel about a film crew making a Hallmark-type movie in Askazer-Shivadlakia, considering the entire goddamn thing originated as a Hallmark script. There is a short story I'm working on where Michaelis offhandedly mentions that they offer generous incentives for companies filming music videos or advertisements in-country; I'm sure Gregory would be pleased to welcome movie crews in the off-season. You can film cheaply and easily in Fons-Askaz from November to March or so (depending on when Passover falls), it's a gorgeous location, and it stays pretty warm year-round.
Hallmark does non-holiday movies too, so they wouldn't necessarily have to be filming a Christmas movie or one of the handful of Hanukkah movies, although the holiday movies get more attention. They could just be filming a romcom, basically (Kavan Smith, who appears to just love Hallmark movies, has played lead in a number of these, some of which have been a lot of fun). Eddie's a decent actor so I don't think it'd be hard for him to get involved, or even be the one who brought the crew there in the first place -- him or Jerry, given Jerry's connections.
Ahaha. Jerry just shows up in Parliament one day like "In my capacity as vizier, I have brokered a deal to bring Hollywood to our doorstep. It's a nefarious plan, but hear me out..."

okay i want to preface this by saying your posts are really comforting and inspiring to me. i'm still in the process of converting and i've been encouraged by my rabbi to bake hamantaschen for Purim in my home. what came to mind first was how nervous i get in the kitchen, especially when it comes to baking new things-- i'm a wreck, i drop stuff all the time.
and admittedly, i, for one reason or another-- perhaps because the kitchen is a holy place-- just feel terrified of making even the slightest mistake. but what came to mind second was your blog, so it was as good a sign to me as any to direct this specific question to you:
how can i be less nervous in the kitchen? what can i do to lessen the anxiety of perfectionism with food?
Part of feeling more comfortable is just... doing the thing. "fake it 'til you make it" is a cliché because, at least sometimes, it really does work like that. The kitchen is where the food lives, and it's where the tools for doing stuff with food and the food specific work spaces are. There's a lot that can go wrong in a kitchen, but also so, so much that can go wonderfully right.
Hamantaschen are, honestly, both a great recipe for beginners, and a terrible one. They can be extremely technical: the right amount of flour to keep dough from sticking when you roll it out can become woefully too much flour on the surface of the dough and prevent the corners from sticking. Even when everything looks properly stuck together, they can open up in the oven and the filling pour out. But you know what you call a flat, failed hamantaschen?
A delicious cookie.
And that's the other part of getting comfortable: having a realistic concept of what "failure" looks like. Short of classic failures, like using salt instead of sugar or forgetting an ingredient entirely, no matter what your food looks like, it's still going to taste good.
Perfectionism is letting the perfect be the enemy of the good, and it's a natural impulse. It's also your brain lying to you. You are not Amaury Guichon or Duff Goldman. You do not need to be perfect.
Here. I got you a present.

I just made one of Duff Goldman's chocolate cakes (that has coffee in it) from one of his Baketivity sets you can get on Amazon, and it was so good! Oh my gosh, this cake! I'm in love. And I don't usually even like chocolate cake that much, to be honest. I also now understand why bakers are always saying why you should add coffee to chocolate cakes when you bake them, because it enhances the flavor of the chocolate. *applauds.* It probably goes without saying, but this kit also came with the ingredients so you could also make your own icing for the cake, which I did, which also of course enhanced it. And, what a cake!
