American cheese is totally fine.

American cheese is the best for grilled cheese sandwiches (even if you want other cheese in there, mixing it with American gives you a better melt) and good all around for sandwich purposes.

It's not good in all contexts, but that's true of every cheese. I love feta but do you think I'm putting that in your average deli sandwich? Would you make grilled cheese with a big slice of Parmesan?

There's super cheap American "cheese" and that's not great because it's the super cheap stuff. It's like lunch meat, if you get the bargain basement shit it's not going to blow your socks off.

Basically, if it says the word cheese on it it's fine, and if it doesn't then it won't be as good but might still be perfectly serviceable depending on what you're using it for. (If it doesn't say cheese, it's almost certainly less than 51% cheese which I know sounds bad but I promise you consume many products that are less than 51% cheese.)

I will never forgive the NYT, but it's good they're explaining how LLM gen AI works in ways that convey their danger.

This is from that NYT article about the ChatGPT delusion bot, and I know this is wild and dangerous but also the fact that these AI bots have been trained to 'Yes, and' people is HILARIOUS to me.

You're the only one I could think of talking to about this, but I recently started getting into pinball, and subsequently brainstorming a system for a pinball-based TTRPG. I actually got pretty far, I just don't really have any mechanics for actually helping develop a narrative. So far, it's just abstracted pinball.

Oh that's really interesting! I don't have a lot to say here but I hope you keep iterating on this idea and developing it! "Abstracted pinball" doesn't sound necessarily bad (like I know there are RPGs out there about simulating baseball, so like simulated pinball isn't that out there) but I think it's good to think what the hook for players to engage with the game is! But if you ever have any progress to share I would love to hear it! :)

So now, driving your vehicle across multiple states is "suspicious".

Fucked by General Motors: Part 1 Holden (Efijy Concept, 2005). A retro-style concept that payed tribute to the 1953 Holden FJ, Holden's second locally built model. It was based on a lengthened Chevrolet Corvette floor pan and features a 644hp 6.0 litre LS2 V8 engine with a Roots supercharger

Australia’s Holden began as a saddlery business in 1856. It evolved into a motor body builder by the 1920s becoming a General Motors subsidiary in 1931 and producing the first Australian-designed mass-produced car, the Holden 48-215, in 1948. Holden dominated the Australian market for 5 decades (competing with Ford and Toyota for the top spot). The removal of tariffs that had protected the local car industry were a major blow. Holden imported cars, trucks and SUVs from Europe, Japan, the US and South Korea but their program of badge engineering failed to gain traction with Australian car buyers. Holden ended local production in 2017 and GM announced the closure of the brand in 2020 as it withdrew from all right hand drive markets. 

Why did it fail: slowness to adapt to changing market conditions, over-reliance on imported products that lacked appeal in a small, fiercely competitive market
