This not only made me laugh, it reminded me of something else - photos of a Spitfire intercepting a V-1 cruise missile in the 1944 sky over Southern England.
AFAIK those - from the Imperial War Museum - are the ONLY genuine photos of any Allied aircraft wing-tipping a buzz-bomb.
All others are faked, though it doesn't stop stuff like this:
That image, impossibly crisp for wartime air-to-air combat photography, was simply credit-cropped and grey-scaled without further use of filters or processing. Even so, "amazing shot" suggests it was not only posted as real but credulously accepted and reposted as such.
The original is this aviation art print, "Tipping Point" by Mark Donoghue...
...which many people interested in WW2 aviation would recognise, so any claim of reality came not just from a faker and liar but an INEPT faker and liar.
Lazy, too, because a few years ago I did this using Photomizer Retro, Vintager and BWorks, photo-manipulation programs which even back then were well past cutting-edge.
Shifting from colour to monochrome is just the first step.
Pictures from half a century or a century ago. showing situations where the action couldn't have been neatly posed and pin-sharp, need to look that way, and these are only halfway there.
The first image is another aviation art print, the second is a still from a simulation game, and I was doing it for fun, so spent only about 10 minutes on each.
Here's another of those real photos from the Imperial War Museum, taken AFAIK from the ground with a telephoto lens...
...and here's that crop of "Tipping Point" after a similar 10 minutes of low-grade-app tweaking.
Those two on the right already look more authentic than the original greyscale-only, and someone intending deliberate deception with an agenda like fake news / propaganda / scam ("recently discovered wartime photos for sale") etc.) would have spent far longer, with far better tools, and produced a far better result.
Be Aware!
*****
V-1 "doodlebugs" (so-called - also "buzz-bomb" - because of the droning noise made by its primitive pulse-jet engine) were so fast at +350 mph / 565 kph that wing-tipping was unusual and difficult.
It wasn't actual wing-to-wing contact, but flying close enough to disrupt the airflow and make the V-1 roll sideways. The gyro of its simple straight-and-level autopilot couldn't correct for this, and it crashed.
Most propeller fighters could only catch them after a dive and even pilots of really fast machines like the Tempest, Mosquito and Gloster Meteor (the RAF's first jet)...
...preferred using guns from dead astern.
Without a pilot to make evasive manoeuvres the target was a "sitter", but since its warhead was 850 kg / 1870 lb of high explosive and its fuel tanks weren't empty, making a successful hit from the optimum firing range of 250-300 yd / 230-275m was...
youtube
...an alarming experience.
Here's one Mosquito as it should be, and another after flying through the fireball of an exploding enemy bomber nailed with its full load still aboard. Detonating a V-1 would have had similar effects.
A wizard prang, as they used to say, followed by - despite probably being a bit hairy due to lack of rudder control - a great * landing.
*****
* Old aircrew saying, which goes something like this:
"A good landing is one where you can walk away from it; a great landing is one where you can fly the plane again later..."
Even though it'll need a bit of time in the shop, that Mozzie made an excellent landing.
:->
Via @StarshipAlves at the It Was A Bird Once place: "Google has suspended drone courier flights because of raven attacks. Looks like the Ravens have taken our side against Skynet."

philemonchambers This year has been one for the books for me. This has honestly been the most depressed Iâve ever been (true vulnerable moment). My show getting cancelled and other projects that I was in talks with either getting cancelled or not being able to do them really took a toll on my mental health. In my head I had lost so much I became jaded and it took me awhile to get over that and realize I gained a lot, I didnât share my struggle because I didnât know howâŠ.I now know WHY this year had to go the way it did. I gained a new appreciation for myself and giving myself true GRACE (which I said I wanted to learn for my 29th year). I made new connections and got to witness some amazing things that I wouldnât have otherwise if I wasnât home. Iâm thankful for everything this year ended and everything it gave. Hereâs to 2024 and all that it will bring đ«âđœđ„#2023recap
All the best wishes to Philemon in the new year, because he truly deserves the best!

Kim Possible Villains and their Kids Headcanons
Aka Anna wants to talk about her KP OCs
A lot of the kiddos essentially grow up together. Showing up at villainy events all the time.
Iâve talked a little about my Drakgo baby, Laserbeam, but she also has a brother named Dynamite and a sister named Gunpowder. (Gunpowder is not mine though, they belong to a friend of mine).
Junior and Bonnie? Not endgame. That is a gay man. But he does task her with being the surrogate for Junior and his boyfriendâs daughter Señorita.
Despite Monkey Fist hating children with every bone in his body, he ends up adopting a child named Xiaojian. She is raised as his apprentice.
How is Monkey Fist no longer statue? Personally I go with another timeline messing with Time Monkey.
Xiaojian was born from the monkey Chippy, turned semi human by DNAmy.
On a Henchco outing when they were kids, Dynamite convinced Xiaojian to sneak into a monkey enclosure then proceeded to leave her there.
Xiaojian and Laserbeam dated for a short while. They are now bitter exes.
Because of how bad the breakup was, Señorita adopted a "no dating anyone with Jack Hench in their contacts" policy.
Somehow all the kids end up with Duff as the "favorite not uncle" (for Xiaojian "Nae yer daddy")
When Dynamite was starting their gender journey, they often could be found at Duff's hitting shots.
Xiaojian learnt Scottish Gaelic and she and Duff tease Monkey Fist often.
She really thinks Monty and Duff need to just get together already.
Señorita wanting to prove some other rich people she was better than them had Duff teach her to golf.
Señorita follows her Papiâs dream of being a big pop star.
In a world where multiple Disney medias exist in the same universe, Señorita grew up watching Ernesto De La Cruz movies with her Abuelo.
Along the same lines, Dynamite once broke up with someone because they said 4*Town was better than Oh Boyz.
Dynamite loves webcomics. Would 100% be that Homestuck fan.
Sharpies are on high watch in the household. If not to turn grey a la Homestuck, Dynamite would recreate Sharpie Bath to turn Blue.
Dynamite was born in Colorado. Laserbeam in California.
Dr Drakken got a vasectomy after Dynamite was born.
Estelle Lipsky? The kiddos call her different things. Laserbeam calls her GamGam, Dynamite calls her GramGram, Gunpowder calls her Bob.
Somehow, the Drakkens end up always celebrating big holidays with the Possible-Stoppables. It is never planned but space is usually made for the other party.
I see Dr D having Jewish heritage but being non-religious. The kids however had Christmas and Hannukah growing up.
Shego watched Dr Drakken insist on designing and making an Offbrand Barbie Dreamhouse (Baddieâs Dream Lair maybe?)
Laserbeam swears she is not superstitious. She comes from a family of brainiacs so thereâs reasoning for that which might be dubbed peculiar. And she knows Aliens and Ghosts and weird shit exists. Doesnât consider that superstition.
However, she isnât aware of habits which make her seem she is. Like putting on a specific hoodie whenever an assignment is just not seeming right.
Laserbeam often keeps a slurry of meds and sensory things in her purse because you canât do evil in bad health.
Laserbeam once performed a VERY heated rendition of Holding Out For A Hero that ended up with her grounded (so worth it though).
While I stand by the idea that Laserbeam and Dynamite are not in frequent contact with their maternal uncles, I like to imagine Mego pops in from time to time.
Laserbeam, Dynamite, and Gunpowder were homeschooled.
The Drakgo babies were named after the song Killer Queen.
Dynamite and Drakken can often be found in the lab late at night. Theyâll get inspiration for a project randomly and then suddenly the entire lair is being woken up to dad rockâąïž.
Laserbeamâs full name is Laserbeam Olivia Drakken. When she has to go undercover she will use Olivia Lipsky.
Dynamiteâs full name is Dynamite Andrew Drakken.

20 Questions
Got tagged by @marezelle (like a month ago, whoops) and this looks fun, so I'm gonna try it!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
Officially 37, unofficially 57-ish (I have a lot on anon right now, plus some semi-ancient FFN stuff posted under a pseud)
2. Whatâs your total AO3 words count?
Apparently, 644,538.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Kind of a lot? One "it's complicated" fandom which I tend to stay on anon for, especially lately; a fair bit for a very specific corner of Free!, also for Natsume's Book of Friends. Voltron's an ex-fandom but I had fun with it right when it started; there's a handful of other anime I've cycled through. I've got an Undertale longfic I'd really like to get back to one of these days. Lately, a whole bunch of stuff for the 9 Worlds series by Victoria Goddard, which is both amazing in itself and also has my favorite fan community to date.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Names Gone Beforeâmy one and only Adventure Zone fic, and a oneshot, but apparently it was a hit lol
Chasing Silver, Chasing Goldâmy beautiful monstrosity of a love letter to the characters introduced in the third season of Free!, and which came out too late for most of the English-speaking fandom to notice it very much (this goes for the show itself and also the timing of my publishingđ„Č). I am so grateful that so many people have managed to find it regardless!
Equivalenceâaforementioned Undertale longfic. I really want to finish it one of these days, but I know what's coming in the last arc and it intimidates me. XP
Omimaiâof all my Natsume fics, I'll admit I wouldn't have figured this to be the top one. But I guess Natori is a fan favorite, and I do appreciate that it's very solidly a gen fic that gets a lot of love regardless.
Like trust falls from towersâaforementioned s1-era Voltron fic. It was an experiment to get me posting more, I had fun with it while it lasted, and I got some truly wonderful comments and support from folks reading along while I was working on it. I still go back and reread it sometimes, and I think it was pretty good.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I always try to! I want to show appreciation and make sure people know that going to the effort it takes to write a comment means a great deal to me.
6. Whatâs the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
That's a tough one. Probably Pistachio Christmas Tree, as it's a snapshot of a really rough time in the POV character's life and doesn't really show any signs of things getting better for him anytime soon. (All my angsty endings come from canon compliance, lol)
OH. Or Chasing Fingerprints, which is a Nabari no Ou AU oneshot that I wrote back in high school. I wrote it under some weird constraints and don't really like it all that much, but the ending is ambiguous and deeply angsty.
7. Whatâs the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
That is also weirdly difficult to say! Snapshots for Natsume, Slow your breath down (just take it slow) for Victoria Goddard's novel Plum Duff, and turning in your hand for At the Feet of the Sun (also by Goddard). Two of those three are wintertime fluff; I enjoy that subgenre a whole lot.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
No. I've occasionally had some slightly weird interactions, but overall I'd say even those were well and enthusiastically meant.
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Occasionally, and I'm not sure what kind it'd count as. Insecure, possibly? (me or the characters, either-or XP)
10. Do you write crossovers? Whatâs the craziest one youâve written?
Only two so far! The weirder one was my first-ever fic, where I technically crossed over Twilight with both old!Who and new!Who. Then there's Clowder, which crossed over two of Yuhki Kamatani's manga from pretty different eras and genres and which I'm pretty darned proud of.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge, no.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I had someone ask once, a while back, but at the moment I don't remember which fic it was, or if I ended up hearing how it went.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
...If adding to a bredlik compilation counts, then yes? And I've also done a fair bit of writing to requested prompts for gift exchanges and the like, which isn't the same thing as cowriting but which feels at least a little bit similar.
14. Whatâs your all-time favourite ship?
Oh man, how can I choose? đ At the top this has to be a tie between Miharu & Yoite (Nabari no Ou, QPR extraordinaire) and Yukito/Touya (Cardcaptor Sakura, TRC, etc). But also Merthur was my first ship-ship. HiyoIku (Free!) for writeability and general fucked-up-ness, but I'm not always 100% sure I ship it, tragically. Natsume and Tanuma for the same uncertainty minus about 90% of the toxicity, whee.
15. Whatâs a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I'm not going to say "doubt," but uh. A couple of "it's complicated" fandom pieces (especially the ones I originally meant to be series) and also the Undertale longfic. Also some 9 Worlds WIPs, but I haven't started publishing those ones yet, either.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Characterization is a big oneâit matters a lot to me and also I've been complimented on it. Fic is my love letter to canon and so I tend to focus on what I love about canon the most, which is almost always the characters' interiority and/or relationship dynamics. I also think I'm usually fairly good at matching the tone of the original, though admittedly the translation aspect of anime stuff gives me a bit of leeway there.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Logistics. I will forget who I put in a room over a certain number of characters, and explaining how people get to and from things (or even appear in a scene) is a terrible chore. (And that's just peopleâmy track record for items, especially furniture, is even worse.) I suspect that my overall pacing also suffers from this because coming up for practical reasons for scenes to start can be difficult.
Also scene transitions, because I write things out of order. :B
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I probably won't, for several reasons. For one, I feel like without a dedicated beta, my errors would be immersion-breaking for anyone with high enough Japanese proficiency. Also, on the other side of things, presumably most of my readers wouldn't be able to make the jump from English into Japanese (which is the only other language I'm remotely able to write in), so accessibility would be an issue. That said, I've occasionally tried to factor in what I know about Japanese and "translate" (at least a bit) to adjust how I write dialogue, when writing fics based on anime.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Doctor Who/Twilight, lol. (I cared a lot about them both, okay? Also I thought trying to mash up their canonical vampire mythologies would be funny! And I was definitely right about at least one of those things.)
20. Favourite fic youâve ever written?
Oh this is also mean. It's gotta be Chasing Silver, Chasing Gold though. It kicked my ass but I also put my heart and soul into it, and its length, completion, and the responses I've gotten to it have all combined to profoundly affect how I see myself as a writer. (Which may sound a little suspect, but the thing is, I spent years massively looking up to people who could write longfic, most of all to people that could do so and finish. It meant so so much to be able to join those ranks myself, whether or not I manage to do it again someday.) It genuinely feels like one of the most significant things I've done with my life, and it's something I think I'll always be proud of myself for managing to write through to the end.
Annnd done! I'm gonna tag @octopus--writer just for fun ;)

Fic Name: A Lack Of Instincts Writer Name: queerlybeloved777 Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Content Warnings: Implied sex between two adults who are not sober and might be affected by an impending heat cycle. Pairing or Gen: Sirius Black/Severus Snape Prompt: 10 - Any Pairing. All that nonsense about male omegas being able to get pregnant is just a myth, right? Right. Until Person A (Omega, possibly a pureblood) sleeps with magically powerful Person B (Alpha), and finds themselves up the duff. Summary: Sirius had not had a dependable heat cycle since he was, oh, 21 or so. You know, it was surprisingly easy to be caught off guard by occasional fertility. Shame his instincts didnât come with a label: You are in heat. You are not in heat because you are pregnant.

Barbie
We all know the way Hollywood works. If something is successful it will be copied and copied and copied until the original hit movie gets lost in the shuffle. We are on the precipice of that happening now.
There have been board games in the past that were made into movies (Clue and Battleship to name a couple) lots of video games and Barbie isn't even the first doll movie. (Yes gentlemen, if you had a GI Joe when you were growing up you were playing with a doll. Accept that fact and move on)
With Barbie we have a good old fashioned phenomena based on the number of people that have watched it after just 10 days. Normally there would be a cheap knock off in theaters within a couple of weeks but with the writers and actors on strike that will not happen. Maybe that is a good thing. If there is going to be a copycat movement perhaps the writers can use this down time to create some really good stuff.
Naturally I already have some ideas cooking that I truly believe would be the next big hit movie at the theaters based on a doll. I am even throwing in another toy that has some possibilities.
Chatty Cathy. (Psychological thriller) An intense woman just can't stop talking, driving everyone around her insane. The sound of her voice is grating on everyone and the incessant chatter is soul numbing. Starring Rosie O'Donnell. If you want to make it a comedy instead give her Tourrette's.
Mr. Potato Head. (Crime Drama) A master of disguise works for the NYC police department solving crimes. When he finds a witness he brings them in to sit with an Etch-a-Sketch artist. Starring anyone but Dana Carvey. (Kudos to anyone that gets that inside joke)
Betsy Wetsy. (Hallmark movie of the week) A lonely woman seeks love but she has a problem: she pees when she laughs, she pees when she cries, she pees at work, she pees at home. How will she meet Mr. Right? Depends. Starring Meryl Streep in a career defining role.
Cabbage Patch Dolls. (Horror) A maniac stalks a family of rich women to butcher them to make cold slaw for his restaurant. Starring all of the Kardashian/Jenner clan.
Skipper. (Action/Revenge) A woman resents all of the attention her older sister gets so she goes on a mission to destroy her sibling's idyllic life. Starring Haylie Duff.
Polly Pocket, (Super Hero) a young woman who has been ridiculed her entire life for her small stature falls asleep at a nuclear waste site and develops super powers. After getting revenge on her oppressors she goes on to defend the world against injustice and height requirements at Disneyland. Starring Snooki.
Play Dough Movie. (Claymation) A group of lazy couch potatoes travel to Hollywood searching for their childhood idols: Gumby and Pokey. Starring any group of Gen Z people they can convince to put down their phones.
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: Copying can be good but nothing beats originality.

While gay has never been a slur, it has been used pejoratively and this example from dykes to watch out for demonstrates a similar process to reclamation. Like many slurs targeting queer people, gay has been used pejoratively in the past, mostly to say that things were bad.
This specific panel is from Notes on Camp published July 18th 2001. Many older Gen Z or younger Millennials may recall Hillary Duff's "That's so gay" PSA from 2008. These both have very similar concepts of trying to explain to younger people why using an identity term to describe something negative is not a good thing! This was quite prevalent in the early 2000's, but it has been around much longer than that, and only in the past decade or so has it lost its acceptance in use.
You may also recall Katy Perry's 2008 song "Ur so gay" which includes the lyric "You're so gay and you don't even like boys" which showcases just how prevalent the use of gay in this manner was. Clearly, considering Hillary Duff had to make a PSA about it in the same year!
