Sort of related but fun fact when I have duanes syndrome and when i was a kid my head was always tilted to the side a little so I had trouble walking and everyone thought that I was just Bad at Balancing so they gave me a brace with a butterfly on it and eyepatches to wear
Story time when I was around four or five years old, I did ballet and the ballet instructor REALLY didn't like me and I think it was because I wore a brace and an eyepatch so my balance was all over the place anyways for the Nutcracker play I had to do, the Little Kids were the ✨sheep✨ except I had the special role. I did our stupid little dance routine and then at the end when all the other kids left the stage I had to pretend to be lost and this girl I think her name was Paige would run back onstage grab me and run away again and I was so good at pretending to be a dumb lost sheep that people thought I was ACTUALLY lost and it was actually the most humiliating thing in the world for tiny baby me

TOS comics ranking
At this point, I've read all the TOS comics out there (or almost), so this is my personal veredict, from best series to worst:
DC comics
The best by a long shot imo. Also the longest running series. Set mostly after The Search for Spock (vol. 1) and The Final Frontier (vol. 2). The following are my favorites.
From Volume 1:
-The Mirror Universe saga (issues 9-16) by Mike W. Barr: It becomes a bit of "star wars, phaser pew pew" in the second half, but still pretty entertaining.
-The first Annual, also by Barr.
-Double Blind and The Last Word (issues 24-25 and 28) by Diane Duane: The first one is hilarious, while the second is pretty moving and spones-coded.
-The Paradise Lost saga (issues 43-45) by Michael Carlin: A payback for The Apple episode.
-The Dante's Inferno/Death of James Kirk saga (issues 48-55) by Peter David.
From Volume 2:
-The Trial of James T. Kirk saga (issues 1-12) by Peter David: The humor is overdone at times, but this author brings a unique freshness and originality to the series. The trial itself is absolutely hilarious, specially when the gangsters from A Piece of the Action show up as surprise witnesses.
-Once a Hero (issue 19) by Peter David: Kirk has to conduct a memorial for the redshirt that just died protecting him, and he finds out he doesn't know anything about the man. Brutal, honest, and has one of Jim's best speeches ever.
-The Class Reunion saga (issues 25-28), The Tabukan Syndrome (issues 35-40), A Little Adventure (issues 42-43) and the Time Crime saga (issues 53-57), all by Howard Weinstein.
-The Alone (issues 62-63) by Kevin Ryan.
2. Wildstorm
Only two TOS comics from this publisher (actually a branch of DC if I'm not mistaken): All of Me and Enter the Wolves. Both are pretty good.
3. IDW
I haven't read all of them, since some series focus on characters I don't care much about, like Gary Seven or Number One. From those I've read, the ones I liked the most were New Visions (made with photo montages from the series), Hell's Mirror and Mirror Images (both set, of course, in the mirror universe), Echoes (set in the TMP era) and The Primate Directive (a crossover with Planet of the Apes).
4. The Tokyopop mangas
There are three volumes. Some stories are fine, others are meh! Perhaps the second volume was the best.
5. The UK comics
Do they have a lot to do with TOS? No. The authors were not really familiar with the series. But they're bizarre, fun and have pretty art.
6. The newspaper comics
Some of the first story arcs were quite good, though it lost quality over time, specially in the art department. Set in the TMP era.
7. Marvel second series
Consisting of the Unlimited and Untold Voyages series, as well as a mirror universe one-shot and a crossover with X-Men. Rather generic. Haven't read the Early Voyages series, focused on Pike.
8. Marvel first series
These are quite bad. Set in TMP era.
9. Gold Key comics
Some stories are imaginative, but they could be about any characters instead of Star Trek and it'd be the same. This is a problem with the UK comics as well, but somehow I enjoyed the others much more.

Glass! I disagree! I think if you stuck Elka and Duane in a neutral space for like a month or two, his love of being a mega nerd would take over and we all know that he does like to project the people he cares about onto others. In Elka's case, he might be annoyed she's not more like Sothos, but he has Conservative Syndrome; he despises the Other except for the ones he personally meets.
Maybe. Elka is so liberated in her actions and thinking though that it raises Duane's hackles. She has no reverence nor submission towards him as a man, and he can't tolerate it. Sette gets a pass because of the Mikaila card, but getting Duane to befriend any woman who doesn't coddle his feelings is going to be tough.
The end of this current scene is a conversation between Duane and Quigs, and Duane has again and again tried so hard to befriend this guy. Duane has overlooked all kinds of atrocious behaviour, all because Quigley is an Aldishman and because he and Matty put him in mind of Duane's plats in the army. Duane will bend over backwards for certain kinds of people because he feels he can relate to them, and he wants to help them. But Elka? Duane would never be able to relate to Elka or any woman like her. He dismisses the mere idea of friendship, and can barely manage comradery or civility.
Conditional empathy is the woooorst. But it's how a lot of people are built. I don't even know if I'd limit it to just Conservatives, as you mentioned. I think it really is to do with our intrinsically tribal human nature.
Anyway, you asked about Sarthos' pronouns in another question and canonically, she's a cis woman. She was never intended to be trans, and was using the Third Option system in order to attend school and escape social and class expectations. While there are a few trans men who are able to bend the Third Option system to their needs, most people who have access to that option are cis women. Alderode didn't invent the system for social justice or gender expression but in order to exploit useful people without having to compromise its iron-fisted patriarchy.
I couldn't tell you where Sarthos is these days but there's no reason to believe she hasn't found a place that suits her, and is living happy and free as whomever she wants to be~

Tarot card Sunday!
Suzanne
12/1
Something unique…I was born with Duane syndrome in my right eye.
hi hunni bun! thanks for sending in an ask for a tarot pull! so excited to flex these muscles.
just a lil note -- my deck doesn't do reverse meanings -- whether the card is flipped right-side-up or upside-down has the same meaning
send in your name (or nickname), day & month of your birthday, and something unique about you -- and an open ended question if you have one in mind -- for a card pull!
reading below the cut so this doesn't clog up anyone's dash. okay lets go!
Tumblr media
Within this deck, Pentacles are tied to earth energy and are grounding and practical. These animals can teach us how to protect ourselves or how to stay strong.
The energy of the Ten of Pentacles is that of abundance and the culmination of a journey. This is a really positive card! Look at the rabbits -- with their little ones and the coins adorning the top of their den. They can rejoice with what they have and their legacy will live on in their family. But the adult rabbits remain with their eyes on the horizon, looking for the next thing that comes their way.
Perhaps you've just gotten through a hard stretch of life, but things are looking like they're settling in. You can and should bask in the gratitude of this moment. Focus on the abundance you have now, while keeping your eyes looking forward for new opportunities or challenges that may arise. You're not done with what you can have or achieve in this physical world. You are setting your legacy for how you want to be remembered. So count those blessings for what you have, instead of focusing on what you don't, and the universe will reward you with more abundance.

it is a very personal head canon to me that neil has a case of duane syndrome, or a slight lazy eye. todd notices it the first time when he and neil talk completely facing each other, and neil’s gaze moves so quickly around todd’s face, and the rest of the student lounge as his attention is being pulled in so many ways that todd notices that neil’s left eye has slight trouble keeping up. he finds it endearing. and todd keeps noticing it. sometimes, neil will completely miss the ball during soccer because of it, and then they all laugh in good fun. but todd especially came to love it when he would open his eyes in the morning, and look straight at neil’s face, a lopsided grin and a slightly crossed eye greeting him in the soft morning light.

hey i’m duane,i’m zimbabwean born residing in south africa.i’ve been dealing with so much imposter syndrome around my work and processes of creating.what does your process of creating look like?
i spend 95% of my day with my headphones in playing artist talks, panels, forums, interviews, podcasts, anything i can find hearing other people talk about their practice which is usually useful in getting out of imposter syndrome slunk.......no one knows what they are doing until its done and then its time to start over again.
my process is usually a lot of me talking about an idea for weeks and months until i just have to shut up about it and get in and test things out its always like conducting several experiments and seeing which ones bubble.

I've got a ton of hyperspecific and random physical conditions myself, so I'll list some out here and you can choose if you want to 😋
Minor scoliosis (back cracks my beloved)
Duane Syndrome
Leg length discrepancy
Hypermobility (Double-jointedness)
Foot supination
(picking hypermobility but only because he canonically has lower back pain in the demon au! back cracks OUR beloved)
Xerxes was just smart enough to know his master was bruised. Not smart enough not to touch the bruises, but smart enough to know they were there.
Mozenrath hissed in air through his teeth. His hand shot down, snatched the eel, and brought him up level with his shoulders-- which ached just as fiercely as the mysterious bruises.
"Why do they keep coming back?" he mumbled to himself.
"Master bumped into table?"
"I know," he said, wincing as his familiar weaved around his neck. He ran a brush through the ends of his bedhead-- better to get it over with now, before he bathed and had to rip half his hair out then. "But that was a week ago!"
Lucky that Xerxes wasn't shy. He was just glad to have the chance to 'swim with Master.' And when he was excited, he weaved-- down from his shoulders, down one bare arm and tightening around his wrist as it held the brush. "Swim now?" Xerxes asked.
"No." He tentatively pulled from the root-- the brush slid haphazardly through the tangles. Still there, but not so bad. He must've slept well. "Not--"
Click.
"Not yet," Mozenrath said, clenching his fist until click, that sudden, agonizing wrongness went away again. "Careful, Xerxes."
"Xerxes careful! Xerxes care whole lot."
To demonstrate his care, he licked Mozenrath's hand.
One of those days, he thought.

Me, on Facebook:
(Star Trek: Picard)
Okay, what do you think the Irumodic Syndrome meant to represent? Deteriorating synaptic pathways with confusion and hallucinations could be several conditions in real life. I could go to Tumblr and tag Diane Duane, but I imagine she too could only speculate.
-
Me, on Tumblr: I refuse to disturb the pleasant neighborhood celebrities unless I brought a pastry, and I'm out of pastries.

Hey everyone! I was scrolling on instagram when i came across a campaign from Gaza. Here is her story(from her go fund me), instagram, and go fund me are down below. donate, share, pray, and repost. Hello, I am Dania from Gaza, from a family of 9 members (Muhannad Samer Muhammad Ahmed Rania Raghad Mam Bab). We lost everything, our home, our friends. We have been at war for 8 months. We have been displaced more than 5 times. Every day we are exposed to death, terror, and fear.
‏Muhammad, my brother, Duane Sindra, needs health care, attention, and care, and we in Gaza lack that. Muhammad needs to live in a safe environment. He needs clean food, clean water, and a place to live away from epidemics, diseases, and bombing.
‏I was studying mechatronics engineering and I was dreaming of becoming an aspiring engineer, but the war came and destroyed my university and killed my friends. I want your help in achieving my dream. I am continuing my studies and achieving my goal.
We lost everything. We had a beautiful house. They burned it and turned it into ashes and rubble for us. Nothing remained but ashes. Now we live in a small tent where we die from the heat and insects. Help us rebuild our lives.
In Gaza, we die daily from bombing and hunger. We suffer from abnormally high prices.
‏To escape death, start a new life, and leave for Egypt, we paid $5,000 per person, and we lost everything. We do not have the price of survival. I want your help in building a new life for us.
‏In our makeshift tent, my family resides, along with my parents and four brothers. Mohand, aged 21, diligently pursues his studies in Industrial Electronics.
‏Samer, at 18, once dreamed of becoming a basketball player, but the war crushed those aspirations. Ahmed, 14, dreams of becoming a doctor, yet the conflict has disrupted his education. Mohammed, aged 7, battles Down syndrome; the war not only took away his toys but also stole his right to a peaceful childhood
Your support will make a big difference in getting us to safety and starting anew. Your donation, no matter how small, can create a significant impact. I appreciate your support, thank you so much for considering and being there for us
‏Your contribution, regardless of its size, will serve as a beacon of hope for my family. It signifies a step towards a brighter future, liberated from the constant threats that have plagued us in Gaza. I am profoundly grateful for your consideration and support during this challenging time. To contribute to our campaign, please visit [insert fundraising link]. Your generosity will have a profound impact on our lives, and I genuinely appreciate your willingness to stand in solidarity with us on this journey.
‏Thank you for your compassion, empathy, and support. Together, we can rewrite the narrative for my family and countless others who seek refuge from the devastating impacts of war.
With heartfelt gratitude
Daneia

(incel stream turns quickly into crypto stream)
Me: I invited some people, hope you don't mind Axel and Dr Proof
Axel: Crypto-bros? Really?
One of them: You should be happy. Jim's a nice guy and would probs hire his friends for his business.
Dr. Proof: He doesn't actually have a business lol
Me: Actually I do. I got an appointment in the morning to discuss producing a card game that incorporates ai generated art with QR codes to battle other cards and ante crypto. Hence I'm asking the crypto bros some questions.
Doge silver: Like honestly this benefits us too. Your idea if it works, not only normalizes crypto, but turns it into the next fantasy football. Like, normies don't know shit about investing, but they do understand gambling.
Axel: Wait wait wait. So is this a card game or a gambling operation?
Me: Both. It's a card game, that gambles crypto.
Axel; And the cards themselves...
Me: Are QR encoded so as to reward Blockchain technology and installing a wallet.
Dr. Proof: OMGGGG everything about this sounds like a scam.
Axel: It's like one of those cheeseburgers you see on a food challenge where it's like grotesquely big. Like if this was the 90s, Jim would be saying "let's make candied pogs! Kids like candy, kids like Pogs! Give them diabetes and fucking die!"
Me: Yes. Not even yeth just unironically yes and this is gonna make me as rich as Jeff Besos and...
Dr. Proof: You will not be as rich as Jeff Besos.
Me: Ok fine, Duane Johnson.
Axel: I wish I had Jim's confidence. I swear I might actually have sex if I did.
Dr. Proof: Does Sarah know about this?
Me: Well sort of... She knows OF THE plan. I've theorized it before.
Dr. Proof: So she doesn't know.
Axel: "Your husband made candied Funko pops and increased gambling addiction by 200%!"
Me: Hey, it's something to be proud of. It's like being the CEO of a brewery. Imagine if I became chief financial officer for Hennekein beer. Like sure, alcoholism is bad, but...
Sarah: You're really gonna compare online gambling and card slop too beer? lol
Me: Oh hey honey!
Doge silver: The fear in Jim's voice.
Axel: Call Jim a narcissist, a schizo, an autist, it rolls off him like water off a rain-coat. But call him a bad boyfriend, and watch as he recoils, sinks, and says "I've been found out!"
Dr. Proof: Jim wants to be a Jew so bad lol
Sarah: I heard like the tail end of the scheme. Babe, really? Pachinko machines?
Me: But with cards! (I make up a Pokemon song)
Me: I gotta buy buy buy POKE-EE-MAN CARDS! (She giggles)
Sarah: Corrupting our first moments! Wait why am I surprised? You literally did try to screw me out of a trade when we first met because you didn't know what cerebral palsy was and thought I had downs syndrome
Everyone: DAAAAMN
Axel: I couldn't get away with that
Me still singing: and with the profits I make... With poke-eee-man cards. I could buy us a house, for my retard
Sarah: I will hit you lol
Dr. Proof: So how does the game work? (Explains it)
Axel: That's lame
Me: This isn't magic the fucking gathering. It's a simple script anyone could cold blind folded. One indian could run the entire project.
Sarah: Babe you're not gonna say that tomorrow are you? "ONE INDIAN is all it'll cost!" Like you were selling paper mache pyramids "ONE NEGRO"
Axel: It's a good unit of measurement for costs...
Sarah: No don't encourage him lol. I am torn as I do want that house and lots of babies. BUT you know this is only gonna feed into your arch nemesis Konami right?
Me: How so?
Sarah: Did you forget Konami is first and foremost a gambling company? Who makes a shitty card game that is a front for just casino bullshit? Who do you think is gonna start investing heavily in it if it takes off so there's no gacha competition?
Me: hmmm that's true
Dr. Proof: "imagine if the roles were reversed!"
Me: Well what I hate about the Yugioh card game isn't even how atrocious the design elements are. It's the toxic fans thirsty to win and the gooning
Sarah: Hmmm... HMMMM who wants to win more than a gambler?
Me: ehhh...
Sarah: May as well make little girl cards to seal the deal of a nefarious
Me: Ok yeah I'm evil. But I'm evil for us. (Sings) LET ME DO IT FOR YOU... KERMIE...
Sarah: LOL
Dr. Proof: How does that fucking work?
Doge Silver: I gotta admit. Even impressed by Jim's rizz like it's just a salad bowl of cringe memes and silly voices but she got it baaaadddd
Axel: It's the jawline
Dr. Proof: Nigga, Sarah hasn't seen Jim in like 20 years
Axel: He's got a jawline NOW
Doge Silver: I mean at least we're finally on the discussion of inceldom instead of how fucking great Jim is
Me: I am great
Doge Silver: You're just conceited and always find a way to weasel out of accountability
Axel: Jim is out secret weapon. A woman with a brain... (Plays better, faster, stronger for stream and everyone starts donating like crazy)
