Hi and thank you for the ask!

Yes, actually! This blog is still going to be mainly Pokemon. A thousand apologies for the lack of content in that regard, I've been quite busy with zine pieces (which I cannot show 😔) and commissions... And hyperfixations on other fandoms. HOWEVER I do have quite a lot of WIPs in the making!

After thousands of years, he finds himself in the Overworld again, knowing that it is once again in danger. Along the way, he meets a number of people he grows to care deeply for. But, will that be enough? (important other ocs: Iefyr; the son of a village elder that is magic-touched and chooses to follow Mykos on his adventure. Pelri; An allay that Mykos frees from a pillager camp.)

Captain Wren Lux - In Space with Markiplier / Markiplier cinematic universe oc. He/they. The captain of the Invincible II. A strange individual with an even stranger past and a very powerful enemy.

Nikita Melnik - Bioshock oc. He/him. A reporter and Andrew Ryan's personal lapdog. Determined to ruin Fontaine, even if it means getting his shit absolutely wrecked.

Lenka Dehaven - they/he. part of a dying race of alien referred to as 'star sirens'. was being used aboard a ship as a weapon until they finally had enough and snapped, attacking the ship and causing it to crash land on a planet. Dr. Dehaven finds them among the rubble and sneaks them home, pseudo adopting them. Eventually they become a space traveller. probably.

💕 @kourvo Oh god, I get a feeling you're preventively crying....😭 You have a knack for picking the dismal chapters ... or is it just me writing a lot of awful stuff? I apologize for all the sad writing I've done and choose a part of this (rather long) chapter that's NOT totally doleful! or at least ending ... well, badly!!! O_O

The constant rumbling dulled into a distant, bland thunder-mist around them. The sky smoked with a heat-haze that chilled the bones, renouncing the skin clammy cold with sweat.

“Look at them.” she whispered. Bethany had spotted what the others had failed to notice. Carver, his cheeks hollowed and grayish, moved closer. Hawke did not wish to, did not want to see. Yet he stepped beside her.

Wherever the hurting eye smarted enough to linger, smoke issued from the scorched ground in crouching spiraling fumes, and heavy brumes obscured the firmament, the sun a sickly yellowish smeared, blurred, blind spot above the skeletal land. For days, the blowzy earth had rung out with screams, then rubicund rains, dry and sharp on a sizzling lip, showered it with an acrid anger savoring of copper coagulated with red. Pulping stray villages into the black ground and obliteration. Where it plagued, a dim pinkish glow took up permanent residence in the soil. Hawke thought he would never see another color in his life.

Now, however, the wastelands stretched with an odd quiet. The wind, weakly bending on the sumless columns of taupe smoke, was chewing on its own mute voice. The chirruping and twitter of birds haunting the severed limbs of burned trees was gone. No insects. No clittering crickets. No bumbling beetles. There were no flies. Not even festering on dead flesh.

Squinting, Carver wrinkled his nose in what was badly disguised disgust. Hawke looked at them, too. His mother held her head averted, refusing to observe that which enthralled her children’s gaze. Her grimy fingers were clasped over her parched mouth.

“I wonder how and why the darkspawn bother to erect them,” murmured Carver in another attempt to shrug off the revulsion sneaking slyly upon their heels.

From all pores the earth reeked of decay. Meanwhile, the putridity of the stench ate holes into cloth and clothes. Into noses and mouths. Where it moldered until even the most craved sip of water consigned the ghastly smack of ashes.

In this inferno, in this desolation a forlorn group of five people, barely recognizable as humans anymore, slogged along what was once a winding woodland path shimmering in dancing flecks of gold and green light, and what was now trampled into a meandering dirt track, every other bend blocked by hollow flames. Above their insignificant heads, where swirls of filthy clouds were surging in one direction, everything appeared to be in a fleeing movement whereas below there was no movement whatsoever. Except for them.

On both sides low hills fringed the rocky road, grayish-black boulders jutted out from under the murdered earth as if its intestines had been forced inside out by a thousand cruel hands. The small group had stumbled onward, a black-haired man in front, aliens in this country of silence and immutability. Their never-ending steps had long since dulled into a half-compromise somewhere between running and dragging. In the evening, when the sun forgot to sink and simply extinguished amidst fumes and haze, the man in the lead would throw himself wherever he stood, eyes closed, his breathing ragged, sleeping in fits to waken to the malodor of fear on his own skin - drenched in sweat and nightmares; only to find reality to be worse than any dream. In his waking state, however, Garrett Hawke kept moving in a constant, purposeful, alert fashion. That is, until his younger sister curbed, stopped at the edge of the road.

“Look at them.” whispered Bethany.

Hawke did not need to move closer to behold the iron lance. Thrust deeply into the ground and erected in a haphazard fashion wayside. Nor didhe need to come closer to consider the brown and round objects threaded like a grotesque string of pearls. Thus adorned, they stared at him with their empty, blinded sockets stretched above a bare, lipless grin. A nauseating smell drifted from their leers to pick at his nostrils, although Hawke had long since stopped to try and fathom whether it was the shrieking aroma of rot or the wafting, spoor-like foul scent of the horde. His senses begged for him to turn away but the empty holes, one pair neatly above the other, did not allow him to falter and kept their, Bethany’s, Carver’s, his stare paralyzed.

“Look at them.” whispered Bethany.

And then Hawke saw it too. His nostrils flared. His stomach, so numb, protested. His insides gave a lurch, surprising him with the force of the reaction of which his body was still, after all, capable.

And then Bethany, though she was muttering, spoke quite clearly:

“They are children’s.”

“Can’t be.” Already, Carver was turning away, quick to trod on along the bleak road which they had been following for hours and hours at a time.

“Look at the size of them.” Bethany breathed, once more quite audible.

“Can’t be.” Their brother’s reedy voice hang suspended in the stiff air. Stubbornly, Carver marched on.

“Bethany, don’t look at them.” said their mother whose voice, in some way, from deep down or the putrid air around them, had found some strength once more. 

But Bethany did look, intensely so, as if by her steady, transfixed gaze she somehow could undo the past and change the present into something … else.

“I am not sure how much more we can survive of this,“ breathed his mother, tottering in Carver’s wake. She lurched a little, then regained her footing. Mulishly she stumbled on after her youngest son, grubby face grim, eyes averted.

Hawke kept looking but he did not so anymore at the small things which were once – now fuscous skin and fleshless – children’s heads embellishing metal spears showing them the way through the incinerated land. Rather, Hawke looked at his younger sister.

She was ready for anything. Any obstacle, any heinousness to come and claim their very lives. Any hindrance they would have to fight, again and again, over and over, to cling to dear life.

Darkspawn.

Darkspawn. The mere word had used to send his mother into a frenzy. Made her eyes glaze over. Her frame sway. Her mind go blank.

Two years ago when Hawke had told about the attack in the woods, quite far from fright, the villagers laughed, frowned, turned their backs on him and shook their heads in disbelief while saying: “The Hawke boy has always liked to jest.”

I simply love the friendship between Fenris and Aveline.

I think, she was his very first friend (aside from Hawke). A friend he could accept because she showed him she cared but not too brashly, somehone who accepted his “no”s and anger, and yet still spoke her mind truthfully around him, neither treating him as glass nor with spite or condescendence, who is a fighter and hardened by grief and violence herself, and, in a way, understands parts of him before anyone else does.

The crowd cheers in entertainment, screaming and yelling to drench the Queen. You are passed out in the arms of the guards as villagers bang their drums even louder as you are lead, barley conscious into the plaza.

Fire torches light the room.

You are thrown onto a heavy stack of hay bales, roughly. You stir awake slightly at the sound of Kirishima's muttering. "Don't throw her like that unless you want to be my dinner for the night!" He scolds the guards, you hear a growl come from his throat. You try to open your eyes, but the headache you were facing with continued to beat at the sides of your temples. You whimper in pain as your hands are pulled harshly, you finally open your eyes when you realize it's another guard.

His hands carry heavy pales of blood, your vision sees two of each person. Blinded by the torches and startled by its heat.

You feel warmth quickly rush down your body, you cough. Choking on the red liquid, your hands quickly shoot up to wipe it away off your eyes, mouth and nose.

"Relax.. you're not going to choke." Kirishima says, holding onto you hand. "Bakugou should be here in a second.."

You struggle to stay up, "I don't want to see him."

Dots surround your line of vision but you can still manage to make out your surroundings, the plaza mainly looks like a barn from the inside. People are surrounded on the balcony and even on the first floor. Hay bales litter the floor and torches are set up on each pillar. Women and children cheer with their husbands, shouting as they watch the heart being drenched in blood. They yell, "Bring out the Queen!"

You are wet, and slightly cold but the warmth of the blood regulates your body temperature. The beating drums sound even louder, horns and bells play from the outside.

"He'll be the first you go to as soon as you're  finished," Kirishima states, as he pulls you lightly to the sidelines. He looks over you, pointing out the King. You nod your head in attempts to see straight again, their are two of him and you didn't know which was which.

"H-How do you know I'll go to him?" You ask, gulping down the vomit that taunted your throat. The nausea makes your knees weak, his two versions of himself smile softly.

"Trust me."

You can barley focus on his words so instead you nod your head, a guard clears their throat, gesturing to one of the politicians. "It's time." He said, reaching out to grab you by the arm you seethe at his roughness. His fingers press harshly into the sunburn skin. You whip your head around in search for the Dragon who was meant to watch over you, he grimaces to himself, nodding to you. You look back towards the guard, his stoic expression shows he doesn't care. But what's new?

You lick your chapped lips, nearly gagging at the metallic taste that latched onto your tongue.

Cheers and yells quiet down with the drums, you are pushed onto a small wooden stage.

An old man who you assumed was the Counsels President stands beside you, roaring the crowd as he hands you the heart. His blue eyes boar into your E/C ones, trembling you reach out with both hands to take it. The warmth of the pigs blood dribbles down your arms.

Hungry eyes all around you, watching in entertainment.

You stare down at the muscle in your hands, trembling, nauseated, you have no idea what to do. You weren't cut out for this, to be part of the dragons and their clan of fearful members. You look out into the crowd, who were you searching for? What were you trying to prove? You've gotten so far, and here you are, searching for the part that tells you it's worth it.

It dead silent in the plaza.

You don't know who you are searching for, but the pair of vermillion eyes that settled softly on yours prove to be worthy. He nods.

And you take that first bite.

You heave with each bite, gnawing at the tough, uncooked muscle. The scent.. the taste of blood is enough to pull you to your knees in front of everyone. You fight back the urge to vomit, still your teeth tear into the heart and blood rushes down the corners of your lips and onto your chest. Coating the now dried blood all over your neck and torso in a fresh layer of crimson, tears trail down your cheeks as you inhale through your nose.

Loud cheers drown out in your head.

You take another bite, keeping eye contact with the King as the only way to distract you from its  foul taste.

Choking on a combination of blood and the pieces that refused to go down you lean forward harshly, gaging up the remnants of heart. You sob quietly as the drums halt and the crowds buzzling stops. For a moment, you lean over, a hand clamped shut over your mouth. You can feel it right at the top, the heart, the blood, resurfacing, fighting to get between the cracks of you fingers. You look back up to Bakugou, his eyes glare into yours masking away the hint of worry that settled in them.

It was almost like he was telling you to swallow.

You gag again, this time fighting through and gulping down the rest while shoving the remaining piece into your mouth. You struggle to stand, chewing away at the last piece. It's tougher than the other bits and pieces. You can hear the rumbling of the drums start again from below your feet and the cheering begins.

You swallowed the last piece, sticking out your tongue to show off you had finished the last god forsaken piece. You feel the corners of your lips tug in a tired smile, people are hugging, and cheering and you could've sworn the Counsel President cursed beneath his breath. You sigh in relief and watch as Bakugou makes his way towards you with a proud smile, you walk towards the edge of the wooden platform and allow his strong muscular arms to wrap around your knees. Pulling you close to his chest with his chin buried into your stomach, the king never showed emotion.

But as his rightful Queen, he promised his mother to try.

You thought his affection was because they were in front of their people, which made more sense. You had earned his respect, your vision is slightly blurred but you hear his hushed voice tell Kirishima to ready the carriage.

"Ready the carriage, we're taking her back home."

It’s been a weird and often devastating year, and our social media has reflected that. Tumblr has just released its top fandoms of 2020 and it’s fascinating to see how a year of pandemic and quarantine has affected transformative fandom and broader cultural trends. In a year when almost everyone spent a lot more time at home, Animal Crossing: New Horizons was the most blogged about topic on the social media platform, followed by animated dramedy Steven Universe, Belgian SKAM adaptation WtFOCK, K-pop supergroup BTS, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. We talked to Tumblr’s Trend Expert Amanda Brennan about how she interpreted the biggest trends of the year, how this was a big year for animation and international media, and why 2020 was the year everyone stopped worrying about what was cool and just embraced what they love. And, now, our chat with Brennan. (This Q&A has been edited for clarity and length.)

Den of Geek: I’ve heard you refer to the users as the Tumblr hive-mind or the orchid, whatever it is. I was just hoping you could generally talk about what the Tumblr hive-mind is to you? Which is the way of saying, who uses Tumblr generally? And how and why? If you can even extrapolate those things. Go!

Amanda Brennan: Most of our audiences is Gen Z; it’s at 48%. Our new user registration with Gen Z is even higher; I’m pretty sure it’s 60%. These are people who come to Tumblr because they love something so much they just want to share that love with people who love it as much as they do. I know that feels like a giant umbrella, but that’s the thing: Tumblr is what you make of it. If you love sports, sports Tumblr is intense hockey Tumblr, so good. If you love TV, you’ll have all of that. K-pop Tumblr, totally amazing. Furby Tumblr is off the hook and they make these incredible creations. I’ve recently gotten into Stained Glass Tumblr.

There’s layers upon layers. No matter what you love, there’s something on Tumblr for you. That’s both the easiest thing and the hardest thing about it. You have to go in being like, “Alright, I’m so into this thing, what does Tumblr have for me?” It’s not like the other social media networks, right? It’s really about what you love rather than who you know.

Yeah, I like that. I did want to ask you specifically about the process of how you track trends and how you make decisions about what to track?

We built the whole taxonomy that powers fandom metrics based on what Tumblr talks about. I’m a librarian, as you know, and I kind of reverse engineered it. My first year in review at Tumblr in 2013, they handed me a spreadsheet and they’re like, ‘OK, go to town.” So I was like, “Cool, let me pull out the threads that I see.” We really let the data tell us how to analyze it, if that makes sense. So when it comes to what we track, I have a running notebook that I’ve kept all year of the things that I’ve wanted to have in year in review.

The Witcher has been on my list since it came out. Animal Crossing has been another one. The Old Guard had a huge moment. I was just writing notes, like, “Oh, what is this thing? And we’ll keep an eye on it.” I have an amazing team. We all are into our own pieces of Tumblr. So we’ll all work together to just keep an eye on different fandoms. I don’t know if you know about Minecraft YouTuber fandom?

Yeah. I was actually listening to the latest Fansplaining last night and they mentioned it in that. I was just like, “OK, a new thing.” There’s always a new thing to learn about.

There’s always a new thing. That’s the beauty of Tumblr. It’s so fluid in fandom. You can go from one fandom to another and then you’ll see like, “Ooh, what is this thing?” I’ve got Supernatural on the brain, as who in the fandom doesn’t right now. [This interview was recorded on the day of the Supernatual series finale.] I was telling someone, the whole reason I got into Supernatural was because I saw a gif from the show on Tumblr and I was like, “What is happening? Let me go back and watch this entire series.” That’s the vibe of Tumblr, right? You see a thing and you’re like, “Oh, I need to know everything about that.”

Hmm. Yeah, for sure. I was interested in talking to you or getting your insight into how trends you saw or data you saw that were maybe tied to the very unique experience of being in the middle of a pandemic.

Yeah. I was looking back at the predictions that I had made last year and like four of those things didn’t even come out. It was just so unexpected. There’s two things that we really saw tied to the pandemic. The first was “cottagecore” as an aesthetic. It kind of touched everything because it’s soothing, it feels comfortable. In March and April in the early days, when you didn’t know what to do, you’re stuck in a forest isolation. Cottagecore has got this vibe of chosen isolation. It was very fantasy-driven and something to reach out for.

That evolved also into nostalgia. I think this year’s really big theme is nostalgia and comfort. We saw huge returns to fandoms like Twilight and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Avatar going on Netflix was such a world-breaking moment. Not only did it introduce a new, younger fandom to the show, there’s a lot of Avatar content once you get into it, but it brought people back to a younger time in their lives. Remembering and rewatching. The Avatar fandom, as you see, it’s all over all of the lists. Zuko is number 20 on all of the things on Tumblr this year. Avatar was able to redefine people’s year. Because you know what, we’re all at home, I’m going to binge Avatar. Reignite my love for this fandom.

A lot of TV too, because TV is episodic, you get lost in it. Movies had a really rough year. When we look at the movies, movies like Megamind were trending this year. That comfort movie that you go back and watch 17 times.

Yeah. I was curious about that too. The balance or proportions between older fandoms and newer fandoms, like the Avatar example. I was curious how much that changed this year? How much you thought it was tied to the pandemic? How much is tied to accessibility and things, like Avatar coming to Netflix? Do you think that is an interest in older fandoms? Or that it’s going to continue past the pandemic?

Yeah. I think another high-level theme of this year is the rejection of cringe culture. I’m getting a little ahead of myself, but I’ll tie it all back in. I think people are realizing what their values are and not being afraid to admit that they like a thing. Not caring what other people think of the things they like. Unabashedly loving the things they love. That’s why I think we do see a resurgence in these older fandoms.

Because people who may have loved them their whole lives, or may have been nervous to share that they liked it when they were younger they’re not afraid anymore. They’re like, “You know what? Twilight, it’s not that great, but I love it. This is my emotional support vampire.” Recognizing that you can be critical of something. You can see where its flaws are, but you can still love it. That duality of fandom is something that is going to persist into next year. That freedom to just like a thing, because you like it. Be able to see its flaws, but still be like, “You know what? Overall, this brings me joy and the world is melting down.”

I’m on board with that mission, that plan for 2021. I did want to ask about the role of non-English language media, especially live action stuff. Generally because I was someone who fell into The Untamed this year, but I saw that there were two SKAM remakes as well that are on the top 10. In general, have you seen over your time at Tumblr, and maybe especially in the past few years, an increase in non-English language content? Do you think that is mostly English speakers and Americans being more open to that or being able to find it easier? Or do you think it’s also an influx of people from outside the United States coming to Tumblr? Or both?

Interesting. The data that we work with is actually stripped of all user information. I don’t really have an insight into where these people are coming from. I do think that users in general are more open to content in any language. Tumblr is more interested in characters than where the story comes from. Thinking about The Untamed, it’s just such a compelling story, it doesn’t matter if you have to read subtitles.

To parallel it to something in major pop culture, Parasite. People are becoming more open to just watching content because it’s good. SKAM is really fascinating to me because the number one live action show is wtFOCK. Then, I think two years ago, 2018, the original SKAM was number one at some point. This show really transcends language barriers. It transcends geographical barriers. At the core, the story of the teenagers is just so relatable to anyone. We’ve seen lots of translation happening and not just into English. Translation of SKAM into other languages, just because people want more of these characters and their iterations, no matter what locale they’re based in. I’m waiting for some professor to have a class on it, because it’s so fascinating to me.

I also wanted to ask about how you thought the election cycle affected Tumblr this year, if there were any trends or data that you were like, “Yes, of course this is what people were doing on Tumblr this year.”

Tumblr has always had this backbone of social justice. This year, it came out stronger and in more force. No matter what fandom you were in or interests, everyone I know on Tumblr was participating in sharing social justice stuff. Even politics, if they weren’t from the US, those kinds of memes that were like, “I feel for you”. The way that fandoms do. I see your show is ending and I’m sorry.

The one thing that Tumblr really had leading up to the election was such an appreciation for the postal service. Especially Gen Z, their world is so much larger due to digital connection. Mail order, just as well as sending letters and keeping in touch with your digital friends is just as important as keeping in touch with your IRL friends. All of the artists on Tumblr, so many of them turn to mail order to replace cons. This is their livelihood. By the time the fall hit and the postal service was having all these issues, people are ready to jump in. There were the Transformers dressed like mail people.

There were all these comments like “support your postal workers,” “support the USPS.” It really boils down to the fact that we are all connected and the mail service is something in the US that connects everyone. Even overseas. Supporting these artists whose livelihood went from IRL to online and having to deal with all of this.

And the “Super Putin Election.” The confluence of those elements. I was just surfing on my personal computer and I was on Tumblr and I saw a post being like “Destiel’s canon.” I’m like, “Excuse me?” I immediately texted my team. I was like, “Open up your work computers, let’s go.”

It’s time.

We all signed on trying to figure out what’s going on and watching the numbers. That, to me, is thrilling. I said this to someone else, but it felt like the night of The Dress. To have that moment where everyone on the internet is feeling the energy. The things that kept getting layered on top of it. Putin and Sherlock and all the anime mysteries. It was breakneck speed, and it was really thrilling just to be in that moment, and so Tumblr.

I did want to ask you about an increase in animated fandom and potentially anime fandom. A lot of these things I’m anecdotally or just observing things in my own little corner of the internet. It just seems like animation and anime, probably at least partially because Netflix has accumulated a much larger anime collection and seems to be investing in these sorts of things. Have you seen that increase? Could you talk about it, if so?

It plays into what we were talking about earlier, twofold. That nostalgia vibe, the late nineties anime vibe, that art style. Also your comfort zone and being open to more stuff just because it’s good. Not worrying about reading subtitles and stuff like that. But anime in general had a huge year. Haikyū!! ending also transposed into other fandoms because that moment of the final panels, it brings people together. People being so excited to see this massive thing come to a close. You might not be familiar with Haikyū!! in general, but you’ll see the fanart and be like, “Oh, I feel that.” It’s the emotion of it.

The popularity of Avatar did also open people’s doors to like, “Oh, well, what else can I watch? What else do I want to learn about”? Boku No Hero was consistently on our Week In Review every week. BEASTARS is another Netflix anime that’s at the top. Then Mo Dao Zu Shi, thinking about The Untamed, the story of Mo Dao Zu Shi is so fascinating. I don’t think I can name another piece of content that has that storyline. People are just ready to take it all on.

I did want to ask you, I think you’ve probably talked about some of these already, but what were some of the biggest fandom moments for you on Tumblr this year?

Oh boy. So many things going canon. Catradora was a huge, huge moment. I cried watching that. The Witcher, Jaskier, introducing this whole new world to Henry Cavill. I saw a post yesterday that was like once Superman was goth, a lot more people realize that he’s hot. Repurposing and looking at things in a new way. Among Us, so huge. There is a user who is doing a comic about White and Pink being in love. She’s giving them lore. She’s giving them backstory, personalities. It is amazing.

Unus Annus, I am not very into streamers, but I’ve caught some of those videos. When they had their final stream, I was tuning in. I was like, “Are you really going to delete the channel?” Then they did. Just watching the fans have that moment, even though I am not in that fandom, it was wonderful so meaningful.

Harry Potter being taken by the fans. Fans own Harry Potter now, and that’s what matters. The Old Guard also came out of nowhere and really blew Tumblr away. The Immortal Husbands. I love that ship. I’ve got to touch on almost all of the places, MCR, My Chemical Romance. Those fans have woken up and they didn’t get their tour, but they will. They’re not going to sleep until they do.

Because we maybe all have Supernatural on the brain, to a certain extent. I’m just curious how you think, that show’s been on for 15 years. The fandom has gone through literal generations. How do you think the fandom is going to change?

There’s always going to be a supernatural gif for everything. People will continue gifing it. It’s going to surpass what it is and it’s going to become that comfort show. This is a personal anecdote, but when I go to the dentist, every single time supernatural is on. It’s just like, “Oh, I get to watch my boys while I’m getting my teeth cleaned. That’s good.” It’s always going to be there. It’s always going to be there for people when they need it the most. We’re going to see a lot more fan creations. People love these boys, men now they’re adults. People love these characters. I haven’t watched this season. I am going to watch the finale tonight. I’m going in almost cold. I know that a lot of fan favorites have returned. My prediction for Supernatural fandom going forward is seeing these side stories come through in fanfiction even more than they already do. Lots more Charlie. That’s personal of mine because I love her.

I don’t think you’re alone in this.

Yeah. Who doesn’t love Charlie? Seeing these smaller characters come out and just shine in their own fan works, more so than the world might’ve provided them in canon.

It feels dangerous to make fandom predictions based on what happened this year, but if you have any predictions and or hopes for the coming year in terms of Tumblr and fandom?

Where we’re at now and going forward, it’s all about true authenticity. Screw what people think. We’re rejecting our old ways of thinking. We’re about flipping perspectives and forgetting what you thought was important in exchange for what you truly love. 2020 has helped us all figure out what our values at our core are. It’s about choosing something that makes you happy, that supports you, and your people. Choosing the happiness of those around you and making sure that you’re fighting for the goodness in life. Which sounds really sugar sweet, but one of the things, again, that I love about Tumblr is it is about putting people first based on the things they love. That’s what I see happening.

The Lake

Hiccup and Toothless lay on the grass at the cove, listening to the gentle waves of the lake collide against the rocks. 

Hiccup had his sketchbook out, and was sketching any little creature that came close to inspect the two visitors. 

It had been a busy day in the village. At every turn there had been a new request to fix a roof, catch a terrible terror, or retrieve some wayward sheep. Sure, it was better than being told to specifically not to come anywhere near those such things. But, being involved in the everyday affairs of the village was exhausting. Being pulled this way and that was an unusual feeling. So as soon as the opportunity arose, Hiccup climbed atop his dragon and headed away from the cramped and overwhelming village. 

Toothless sniffed at a honey colored flower near his nose, then proceed to paw at it. The dragon rolled over, causing Hiccup to fall backwards. From his new position on his back, he continued playing with the flower. Returning his sketchbook to his pocket, Hiccup sat up, facing Toothless. The dragon was now rolling around in the grass. Hiccup reached to his pencil, which had rolled away, when the pencil was sent flying by a blur of red. Toothless turned to look at Hiccup, clearly bored with taking a break. His eyes were wide and mouth open, pink tongue sticking out. Toothless’ body was set in a playful crouch, daring Hiccup to make a move towards the pencil. 

“So you’re gonna play that game, are you?” 

The two stared each other in the eyes, and Hiccup’s mouth curled upwards in a smirk. Toothless’ tail wiggled, waiting for Hiccup’s next move. 

Hiccup dashed as soon as Toothless glanced away for a second, distracted by a ladybug crawling on his paw. He didn’t get far however, getting tackled to the ground in a matter of seconds. He flipped over, playfully dueling with the paws coming towards his face. With an amused warble, Toothless changed his tactics. 

“No-ha-no! Toothless!” Hiccup struggled to speak while gasping for air between laughs. The night fury was sniffing Hiccup’s stomach, which the dragon knew was a ticklish spot for the young viking. “Toothless! Please-ha! Have m-mercy! I-ha- I need air!”

The dragon, after what had to be ages, ceased sniffing and set his head down on Hiccup’s chest. 

“Are you done now, you hyper reptile? Or are you just planning your next attack against the viking that sneaks you extra trout after dinner?” Hiccup’s hair blew backwards as Toothless sniffed a final time with defiance. “Your breath smells like fish. You’re gonna make me smell like fish more than I already do,” Hiccup said with fake annoyance. Giving a content sigh, he wrapped his arms around the dragons head, giving him a soft embrace. 

They stayed there, Hiccup rubbing circles on Toothless’ head, cherishing the time they had before they had to return to the village. Both of them listening to the waves of the lake.

20. Random fact: I really love medieval fashion and wish we could all go back to dressing like that LOL! And here’s a fun bonus: I find the smell of car garages comforting because I grew up next door to my papa’s automotive business - I know it’s so weird!
