This summer I think I’m going to highlight my favorite writers and artists who delve into either the wider world of Thedas than just the Ferelden/Orlais we see in the games, and the people who I believe capture Solas the best.

Souls on the Bank of the Acheron by Adolf Hirémy-Hirschl is one of my favorite paintings in the world by one of my favorite artists, and YunHa did an amazing job with their version of it. This is my tribute to one of the most profound secrets of Thedas -- the nature of spirits and their link to the presumed "Maker" of that world.

This piece is inspired by DA lore crafting through Codices, murals, stylized concept art, and in-universe research like The Grim Anatomy. Another thread is my speculation from Metaphysics of Thedas about the great metaphysical duality being at work in Thedas, one between a supposed Maker and the counter-balancing force known as the Void or primal Silence. Yet another element I used is the visual of the Tree of Porphyry - a type of diagram that medieval philosophers used to classify the universals according to the Aristotelian rules of definition through genus and differentia specifica.

Of course, spirits of Thedas are not classified this way - for what we know, some leading "virtue" types of spirit can be corrupted into "vicious" types of demons if their conceptual nature is compromised or abused. Still, the way we keep learning about the new spirit types outside the crude classification of the Southern Chantry, brings to mind a picture of a tree where spirit types spread out into more and more nuanced variants.

The corners of the picture are adorned with rudimentary depictions of the Forbidden Ones - the four mysterious powerful demons that bear proper names instead of universal names, whose nature seems more elaborate and elusive than the usual single notion assigned to most spirit types. These are: Xebenkeck, harboring an insatiable bloodthirst, whose presence was noted in Kirkwall and might have something to do with the city's history of violence; the still unknown Formless One; the duplicitous Imshael, who manipulates mortals into choices that bring out a monstrous side in their morals; and Gaxkang, a shapeshifting predator luring mortals with a false promise of riches and glory, only to bury the trace of their existence.

For all your angst-ridden "Dorian & Lavellan deal with the mess of the world and everything that happened with Solavellan post-Trespasser" needs, look no further. It's a bit of a character study for both Lavellan and Dorian, and it highlights how messy good decisions can turn in the right (worst) circumstances. The story packs a gut-punch at every turn and the Dorian & Lavellan friendship is heartwrenching and authentic to both their characters and the trials and tribulations they shared throughout and beyond Inquisition. Solas haunts every corner of the narrative and the implications of that had me chewing on this story long after I actually finished reading it.

Lucky Wizard is such a delight to work with! She is very communicative and I'm always astounded at how fast she is able to crank out such stunning pieces like the above. She did all of the art in Swept Away and was able to perfectly portray the style I had in mind. All of her art shows a love and care for the characters she is portraying, especially in the facial expressions.

How Is This My Life? By The AdorablePipsqueak (https://archiveofourown.org/works/29934414/chapters/73681032) Pokemon, Dragon Age. A human gets turned into a Vulpix and ends up in the world of Dragon Age: Inquisition. She has to navigate the world without any clue to how do much of anything and accidentally becomes a goddess. Cues shenanigans and more pokemon appearing! I really enjoyed reading this and the ending made me smile. And I didn't even know anything about Dragon Age!

As someone that also knows essentially nothing about Dragon Age: Inquisition, I can honestly say I adore this idea. It just promises fun and chaos. I'll bet @thequietdreamerposts had so much fun writing this because it seems absolutely wonderful. Thanks so much for sending it in!

I read this story long ago all in one sitting. It absolutely gripped me, tugged at my heartstrings, and wouldn't let me go. A Cadash/Solas/Varric Tethras rare pair, you have to give this a try.

Rating: E Pairing: Female Cadash/Solas, Female Cadash/Varric, Varric/Solas Chapters: 13/13 Length: 42,657 words Summary: Maria Cadash hung up the Inquisitor's mantle for the Viscountess' crown, but she's unable to stop her desperate and impossible struggle to stop Fen'Harel from destroying the world both her husband and daughter inhabit. The fact Varric, Maria, and Solas are all madly in love with each other just means she may have enough of an edge to win this game.
