finally had the true xenoblade X experience in the definitive edition: heading out into primordia to fight some level 15 enemies, only to suddenly hear uncontrollable start to play. I let out a quiet "oh no" as I swing my camera around to be greeted by the majesty of Luciel the Eternal, level 92 skyscraper-sized dinosaur. my HP is already 0 and the screen goes black.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Pairings that live in my head rent free

Cross x Elma: Yeah, yeah, I'm just in love with Elma but there's a certain poetry to Elma being a Reclaimer and falling in love with a piece of the White Whale she woke up. Someone who doesn't know or remember Elma the Hero, but just sees her for who she is, someone with whom she can build a relationship from the ground up the way it's meant to be. Someone she doesn't have to be the invincible hero around.

Hope x Murderess: The definition of "I can fix her" x "I can make her worse". Everyone is expecting some kind of con and is ready to kill Murderess at the first sign of her hurting Hope, but Murderess is unwilling to admit this stupid sunshine person actually wormed her way into her heart and it's driving her NUTS. And Hope latches onto Murderess after Ornella because Murderess is self-evidently selfish and won't pretend to be anyone else and if she hurts her it at least won't be a surprise. And every-time Murderess doesn't, it makes Hope feel a little better.

Doug x Lao: Old friends forced together after a loss so tremendous that there are no words for it. Doing your best to be there for your buddy, trying to pull hi out of the abyss he's falling into. Finding you enjoy spending time with him more and more. But no way you're gonna try to make anything more of it. Not anytime soon. Not after what he's been through. And then... it's too late. He's gone, you're alone, and you're haunted by a specter of what might have been.

Doug(las) Barrett in the XCX high school AU!!

It was very interesting to give him a kinda floofy hairstyle. I wasn't onboard at first, but it did grow on me.

I still don't know what his jersey should look like. All I know is that it should be blue and gold. Though, he does have a outdated red and black jersey prior to his school revamping their image.

I like to think Doug keeps forgetting to tie his tie most of the time. But he somehow never loses it.

Also silly anime boy bandage on the nose :)

Notes:

-Doug is probably a really popular person in the school. He's a senior, in a sports team, does a lot of side-jobs, volunteering, and takes care of his siblings. But that does make him really tired all the time. Yet he rarely shows it because he always gets wrapped up in a lot of requests. Lao sometimes bails him out because he knows his best friend needs a break once in a while.

-I was having a whole thing deciding what sport he should play in this AU. After some brainstorming with my mutual LHB, I went with basketball since it is relatively popular in Japan and it's canon he likes it. He's gotta use his height for something ig lol.

-He has a crush on Hope, and vice versa. But they are idiots so they never break the tension. Lao teases Doug about it a lot.

-Is in a silly friend group with Lao and Frye since they are all seniors and do sports (Lao is not in a school team, and does his stuff privately)

-Has chocolate on him at all times

Translation notes:

Why am i so bad about recognizing voice actors... WHY

First with Lao, I identified that it was Matthew Mercer (mostly knew his voice from Overwatch and TOTK)

AND NOW IT'S FRYE, HE IS VOICED BY FRICKEN DOUG ERHOLTZ, THAT'S INSPECTOR ZENIGATA'S VOICE ACTOR

I'M GONNA RIP MY HAIR OUT IF I RECOGNIZE EVEN ONE MORE VOICE ACTOR, GOD IT'S GREAT TO HEAR THEIR VOICES AND ALL BUT GHRAGGH!!!
