My issues lie with when the showrunner/writers/any of the people making it hate the material. Or just don't care.

There are a few examples of films/tv adaptions that outright butcher the original works that I haven't seen or outright hate.

Eragon- missing half the fucking book.

Mortal engines- I saw the trailer and immediately noted 100 things incorrect. Including Hesters fucking scar. Hugo weaving was a solid choice for Valintine but his beard should have been much neater.

Maximum Ride- just don't.

The Witcher Netflix- mixing and matching stories from the book. And focusing less on Geralt. Also the writing team hated the original works. Henry Cav was solid as Geralt.

The last airbender by M.Night Shyamalam- An avid failure to understand the original masterwork. As well as trying to cram the whole journey into a single film with no care.

Doom- going from fighting hells demons to making resident evil in space. But the first person bit was really good.

Now I will admit I'm a bit of a book to film hater because they always seem to ignore most of the book when adapting to visual media. Or they change the main characters because they don't like the book main character.

In some cases it's straight up political how they change the media.

In most cases it's just an insult to the original media and the fans of said media.

can we like, have adaptations made by people who care about the thing they're adapting

So there was a french animated film about the friendship between Icarus and the Minotaur last year and I was supposed to hear about it on the bird app?

I mean it’s literally not streaming anywhere yet nor does it have a home media release at this time but I would like to get hyped in hopes of one of those things happening eventually.
