you have the ability to make yourself feel special and luxurious. the idea to this is to cultivate the feeling of being rich or the feeling of abundance and luxury. 

start a collection that you can have a lot of, change the perspective in which u see the things that u already own. kind of like seeing a cup have full then a cup half empty?

be rich in knowledge, be rich in culture, be rich in relationships, be rich in beauty. be rich in whatever interests that u might have. 

to be rich in knowledge -> seek higher education, study, read lots of books, start writing and seeking knowledge in whatever interests you 

to be rich in culture -> learn more about ur own culture and the culture of other people. explore and educate yourself on religion and customs that interest you. be well versed in another language or in something that’s important in todays media and pop culture

The day started as all days did with you and Howdy, he would open and run the front of his store while you went out in search of various flowers to decorate and sell. You found yourself adjusting to the abnormal life quicker than you would have imagined, If you went back and told your past self,

“Hey! Prepare to live with puppets the rest of your life!”

…You probably would have admitted yourself to a mental ward, the thought making you giggle as you carefully picked at a patch of babies breath you had found. The human mind worked in marvellous, but interesting ways you supposed, the thought leaving as soon as it entered though and before long you found yourself gathering your collection for the day and beginning the trek “home”. 

Howdy was kind enough to offer you a home in his shop when you first arrived, and you quickly grew to like the bug even if he had his weird habits and hobbies, they charmed you. 

He had expressed how he enjoyed cooking but had no one to share the food with, it being hard to eat at all as a puppet, so you took on the role of taste tester and since then had been helping Howdy at any chance you could. 

With the town drawing closer as you walked, you thought about what you would both cook tonight, the thought of being able to guide Howdy as he cooked making you feel a sense of comfort you often felt when thinking of him. 

The shop sign was still flipped to its usual “Open”, so as you entered you flipped it to finally say you were closed for the day, If it wasn't for you flipping that sign Howdy would never get any rest you supposed.

      … And this only cemented itself when you saw him asleep on the counter, passed out cold. 

He unlike you had no need to eat or even drink, so without thinking you went into the downstairs home you and Howdy shared to grab a blanket, ideally letting him get his much-needed rest. 

After covering him with his favourite blanket, you went back downstairs to organize the Flowers you found into a neat bouquet, Howdy always loved when you made him one custom. 

With a day's work completed you turned in for the night, not without of course going back upstairs to check on Howdy, giving him a light shake to tell him it was time for bed. 

“Mmhg. How..?”

You knew what he was going to ask, the poor man never wanted to give himself a break,

“You’ve been asleep for a few hours now Howd’s, Dont worry I already flipped the sign,”

You expected his face to go back on the counter as it usually did, often times you had to beg him to come to the actual bed.  …But this time his eyebrows creased with worry and his mouth dropped its usual grin, 

“What time is it?!”  

He used both sets of hands to push himself up and off his counter, stumbling upright, barely missing the shelf behind him with his head,

“It's about 10 o'clock at night now Howd’s, what's got you so twisted up?!” 

Your voice was laced with genuine concern as Howdy just shook his head and tried to smooth down his hair, seemingly preparing himself to be seen by others,

“No! Im gonna be late for Poppys Party! I promised her I would bring a cake!”

You had moved your hand to rest on his shoulder reassuringly.. 

  “Howdy, you are tired, im sure Poppy would understand if-” 

…before he hit it off and walked swiftly to the cooler connected to the wall, 

“I need to be there Y/N! Im gonna be late as it is, you might not be neighbourly enough to understand why I need to be there but Poppy is!” 

The look he gave you struck a cold metal spike through your heart as he continued,

“Maybe you would understand better if you actually socialized with them.” 

At that final remark, he left, the chimes on the door dinging loudly as his second hand pulled it shut behind him. 

…You felt like you just messed up big time, even though you were just looking out for his health. 

You knew Howdy wanted you to talk and meet the other neighbours, it was just hard. Being a human in a puppet world doesn't exactly lead to the most pleasant small talk, Howdy was the only one who understood this and made sure you didn't feel pressured to talk to them, 

Until now you guessed. 

Without much else to do you resigned yourself to an unrestful sleep full of tossing and turning, the space Howdy usually occupied feeling cold and empty in the dark room. Your heart ached for him to return, but as the grandfather clock strikes signifying it was now 2 am, you didn't think he was coming home anytime soon.

…Howdy had not returned the next morning either, leaving you to make breakfast alone in your pyjamas. He normally would be the one opening the shop bright and early, but seeing as he wasn't here you wondered if it was your place to do so anymore,

…Or if he even wanted you around. 

The knife you were once using to chop onions sliced into your finger after you had that thought, drawing you back to reality. 

You felt endlessly stupid as you ran it under the sink water, you couldn't even cook breakfast right without Howdy here. That chilling feeling of panic burrowed and stayed deep under your skin, in your free hand you picked at your nails. A habit you once kicked coming back in full swing. 

You had finally made the decision to leave Howdy alone after sitting on the couch for a few minutes as the cut stopped bleeding, you didn't want to burden him after all. 

With not many items to your name, it didn't take long to gather them all together in a small tote bag you found lying around, However, as you began walking up the stairs to leave, one thing caught your eye. 

The bouquet you made Howdy still sat on the coffee table, untouched from the day prior. Tears gathered in your eyes as you remembered Howdy receiving the flowers you would bundle for him, he would dry them and hang them in the shared bedroom. 

It was only fitting to leave them you supposed as you left, the sun rising in the sky painting it a lovely orange as you left for the forest, chills wracking through your frame as you felt tears chilling your cheeks. 

Little did you know however Howdy had confided in Poppy what had happened the previous night before, with Poppy offering him a solution.

As Howdy returned home after a long night of baking with Poppy, he was shocked to see his sign wasn't flipped to its usual Opening position, he had assumed Y/N would have been up by now, 

He supposed it only made the surprise all the better as he walked through and made his way down the steps.

Only to find you were nowhere to be found. 

He had searched high and low for you, you weren't in the bathroom or the bedroom, or even in the kitchen, though one thing did catch his eyes. 

The red stain on the cutting board with an abandoned plate of onions sitting beside it. 

The red flags immediately went off in his brain, his upper set of hands clutching firmly on his antennae as he anxiously set down the cookies he baked and ran upstairs. What if you were injured and he didn't know? What if someone had come in and harmed you?? 

He knew he should have stayed home. You were right, and you always were when it came to his well-being. 

The eye bags that were under your eyes the night he yelled at you were permanently etched into his vision. He couldn't sleep knowing he hurt you, yet he still stayed away. 

He was a dumb bug and knew he didn't deserve you. As he collapsed outside of his shop it was only cemented how useless he was to you. He couldn't even protect you from himself, he had to go and mess up the one good thing he had.

You hadn't made it far into the woods before you slipped on a particularly slippery rock in the river and scraped your knee all up to hell. The sight of the blood made you dizzy as you stood and walked out, you knew you had to head home, you had tried to escape the neighbourhood many times. 

All of which led you to walk in circles, so you knew it was pointless. 

The previous adrenaline and self-doubts seemed to have been washed away after you scraped your knee, your mind felt clearer than ever and ready to confront what happened with Howdy the night before, 

You just hoped he was home already, you missed the big dork in the Shop. 

As you approached Howdys store you couldn't help but shake the sounds of… Sobbing? Coming from the side where your flowers were located, 

And it sounded awfully familiar to your favourite dork. 

“Howdy?” 

The crying stopped for a moment before you heard frantic shuffling and the sound of someone falling and rising again, as if they tripped on their own feet. 

“Y/N! Your okay!” 

You were met with Howdy gathering you up in his arms and pulling you in for the tightest hug imaginable, All four of his arms moving to support your arms and legs as he held you.

WHY DO A DOPAMINE DETOX ANYWAYS? ;

its true that dopamine produces pleasant sensations. when the body gets too much dopamine from different activities, it can start to require more and more dopamine to create those “good feelings”.

this can cause ur default mood levels to drop and in the long run leave you feeling worse and more unhappy over time.

SO WHATS THE CHALLENGE ;

step one - put a time limit on your phone or computer or whatever device that u find ur spending the most time on. put time limits on apps like tiktok, tumblr, instagram etc.

theres no need to put time limits on apps like your camera roll, text messages, apps that u use for school etc.

step two - when u wake up in the morning, do NOT check ur phone first thing in the morning. in fact, dont even pick up ur phone until an hour after wake up time.

step three - step one and two were for doing dopamine detox on a regular basis (daily/weekly), but if u wanna do a longer dopamine detox (monthly) get off of social media for an agreed amount of time and once you've completed that dopamine fast REWARD yourself.

ofc thats more extreme, but you know whats best for you and you know what u need the most so thats all you ✨

step four - find another activity to do. pick up a hobby that u used to enjoy doing or pick up an entirely new hobby. find something else to do OTHER than using ur phone. check the things to do while on a dopamine detox post so you can gather some inspo.

doing a dopamine detox can help you to take control of your mind and ur habits and push you towards the next level of you. and it improves ur mental health in the long run ✨

NWWD: Editing Update

Time for the Main Edit! 0 of 37 chapters done lol

i'm hoping to get this edit done in a month, no idea how realistic that'll wind up being but i gotta start with a goal. if you want some more detail on my personal editing process see below

also includes the reader name reveal, because i don't think i've shared that anywhere yet

my editing process, when i hav the time and i'm not rushing to post, is that i print out the chapters--in a different colored ink and in a different font--and hand write my edits with a red pen. then i type the edits up after.

there are a couple reasons for this but the main one is that i think i pick up and notice errors/places i want to revise etc when i see it on paper more than on a screen. this is something i noticed on my own but also something i've seen echoed elsewhere. the different font/color i definitely saw online first, put in to practice, and at least placebo-ed my way into think it helps me edit better too. the idea is that it makes things different but not too different and so u can pick up on stuff better. all of the fonts are still readable, but just not like times new roman/arial/calibri etc

obviously this takes a lot longer than just editing on the computer, but i think its worth it. also, i still do some longer revisions on the computer - i have a bad habit of just lik underlining or highlighting or just putting a star next to a paragraph i dont like as shorthand to myself for like "reword" "awkward phrasing" "confusing" etc and then 'typing up the edits' me is like shit, now i gotta actually come up with how to fix it lol so the typing up often takes the longer of the two.

if i'm really taking my time (in terms of like prewriting a lot before posting anything for a story/fic), i'll do this chapter by chapter, hard copy and typing all of one before the next. sometimes i'll do a bunch at once, especially if i'm also trying to fix overarching things. i think i did all of DSM hard copy and then typed it all? but i can't really remember. i've split NWWD into 5 mini-arcs and i'll probably do all the hard copy edits on the chapters in that arc and then type all of them up, etc. that way i can also send multiple completed chapters to my beta reader(s) at once and i can make sure that i can tackle some of the exposition structuring things i want to fix more cohesively across chapters (or so i hope).

oh wow right to the gut... i don't think he believes in gods in any way. he explicitly doesn't believe in the prophecy, and while he respects furina, he doesn't treat her as a god (or even a celebrity) like the rest of fontaine does before the trial. i think his childhood trauma really dashed any beliefs he could have been taught/couldve had. and then furina as god walking out of his trial and him interpreting it as her finding his trial "boring" didn't help matters either.

for where he is now, i think he's like. well the gods exist, but they're not going to help me in any way, so i should help myself and others like me. he worries about the people of meropide and on the surface, and the main quest shows us that he'd rather take things in his own hands than relying on the archon.

i do think he trusts in neuvi more than he trusts in any gods and he likely figured out neuvi wasnt just some immortal a long time ago etx, but he's still staunchly independent and his deep respect for neuvi doesn't translate to like. religious faith as we know it in teyvat. especially because neuvi is someone he can actually communicate with and talk to compared to how distant archons are portrayed.

scara - 💄 makeup +👗 clothes-themed headcanon

i agree that he's torn between the two extremes of wanting attention and hating when people look at him ("you dare gaze upon me" etc).

for me, he was definitely the one who picked out his fatui and wanderer outfits (like they do say and show that he was the one who chose to start wearing a big hat after his villain origin story), which shows that he's very particular about his outfits and prefers to dress in familiar clothes aka inazuman inspired fashion. (compare dottore, who is from sumeru, but is wearing something nobody in sumeru is shown wearing.)

for the fatui outfit, this is really interesting because his big hat + sort of veil references uchikatsugi, which was worn by noble women to protect from the elements and also to protect their anonymity/purity.

so in a sense, it's like. he wants to show off his status, while also hiding himself from others. so for me, he goes out of his way to pick out beautiful, high-quality clothes for himself, and then remembers "oh fuck people are going to look at me because i'll stand out" so he tries to obscure his face in any way.

as wanderer, he (originally) doesn't have that trauma/complex, so the uchikatsugi influence is more like. thin banners behind his head, versus the wider covering in his fatui outfit

as for makeup, i like to think his eye makeup was actually painted on. either by ei, as a rare moment of her caring, or by someone in tatarasuna, as like. actual proof of people caring about him. since he's still technically a doll/puppet, he doesn't really see the point in putting on other makeup. (this also means in like modern aus i think he's one of those people with annoyingly clear skin who only puts on eyeliner, if anything LMFAOOOO)

funny that the emoji used in theme is a cigarette bc i just knoooooow zhongli is on that opium/nicotine to relax JKSHGKLSDHGJKSHGSJ. while he has the image of a proper gentleman and doesn't like doing things in excess, i think he deserves a smoke break. maybe he's even tried naku weed idk i don't smoke myself bc of asthma lmfao. he's also a "collector" but more like. he buys random things and justifies it to himself and others with some long-winded explanation and then goes home and puts it on a shelf overflowing with other random ass things he barely uses. he's always impulsively buying some trinket smh

desire: What's one thing your OC wants more than anything in the world? Are they open with that desire? Why or why not? What would they do to fulfill it?

this is always such a tough question for me to answer bc the concept of Having An End Goal is such a foreign concept to me. ppl are really out here trying to do specific things?? knowing what they want out of life? i could never. & honestly like... obviously i cant give that to every character bc it would get boring real fast but i think i can give it to oli. i dont think they really have something in mind!! im not sure they would be able to answer the question themself, in terms of either material or immaterial goals. like especially being. however old they are (at least a century at this point idk specifically) theyve done a lot of things, theyve had a lot of experiences, theyve definitely collected lots of stuff. i think they tend to just go after something until they either get it or get bored of trying.

to kind of answer the second part, it would depend on the specifics; they might be open about it, if they think that would help them obtain it, & they probably wouldnt ask for help but might try to convince people to help in a less direct way. they dont like to ever seem like they need assistance from other people... even when they do.

i guess for a more serious answer their main goal is just be the freedom to do whatever they want forever lmao

guilt: What is your OC guilty about? How do they handle their guilt? Do they try to avoid guilt, or do they accept it?

REPRESS THAT SHIT!!! NEVER FEEL BAD ABOUT YOUR PAST ACTIONS except when they compound & u suddenly break down & have a panic attack about it BUT THATS PRIVATE!!!!!

theyre very stubborn, so they try to convince themself that their actions were justified, that they just did what they had to, but theyre... not always right. theyll overreact & then act like they had no other choice but still feel bad about it & pretend they dont. it kind of just ends with a lot of conflicting feelings all around.

as for what theyre guilty about, um. well the killing people is definitely the big one. it hasnt actually happened often, despite the whole being a vampire thing (generally speaking the amount of blood theyd be taking wouldnt actually be enough to kill someone), but theres a few instances they havent quite gotten over yet. they still have some lingering guilt about their brothers death back when they were kids, even though it wasnt their fault. theres not much else coming to mind thats really notable, theyve definitely got some bad habits that theyre not super proud of but no particular instances that were more significant than the rest.

one thing theyre not guilty about (usually) is whatever happens as a result of them sharing the bits of information theyve picked up about people. if they dont want their secrets getting out, they should be a little better at keeping them secret.

hunt: Who or what is your OC hunted by? A person, a feeling, a past mistake? Is your OC able to let their guard down, or are they constantly alert?

ok so. this one has been tripping me up for fucking ever. i do not know how to answer it. if it was haunt i think i could answer it more easily (oli has been around for a while, theyve done a lot of things & known a lot of people & made more than their fair share of mistakes) but hunt? i dont know that theres really anything or anyone in particular theyre hunted by. i feel like it would be a more situational thing? like if theyve pissed someone off recently, or if someone has caught onto the vampire thing... so i guess like. not really anything specific, just the looming threat that someone could have their eye on them?
