I will admit, it's a little embarrassing since you can easily see the patterns of what I've been listening to for the past year or two. I swear I listen to more than just videogame OSTs, these songs just jive well with the story and I often find lyrics distracting when brainstorming scenes. Regardless, the music I listen to is such an important part of my creative process and some of these songs really defined the scenes I now have locked in my head. So I figured it was only fair to give them the credit they're due.

I will continue to add to this playlist, and will note in comic updates when one of these songs is applicable!

My friend Ryo, who is working on a Good Genes AU where Mikey double mutated, just brought up an interesting thought. As we're working on his recovery and the family doing group therapy, we figured that Donnie might bring up the Turtle Titan costume reflect on telling Mikey that the concept was so ridiculous his mask must be cutting oxygen to his brain.

Even for bickering silly siblings, that line has always felt a little harsh.

Also, we didn't appreciate how they mocked his superhero sketches. I know, I know, brothers do that all the time, especially them. Hush, it's a dark fix it AU.

We are going hard on the This Family Needs Group Therapy trope. Ryo is really leaning on Splinter for being short sighted. This AU is not kind. We've gotten complaints, heh.

I remember when the promos were first released. This assessment is very accurate.

2003 tmnt promo and merch art always makes laugh so hard, cause it’s all like ‘ AAARGH, ANGRY MUTANTS MADE OF PURE MUSCLE, READY TO FIGHT!’

And then you watch the show itself and it’s just 4 small round dudes, being silly and looking like they’re made out of squishy foam.

(I like to imagine that’s what the boys imagine they look like vs what they actually look like 🙃)

Okay, the farmhouse ark was awesome, and well done. It was beautiful.

But...

I think something hard to show was just how much pressure was put on Donnie at the time. First off, he blamed himself for Leo's comatose state, because he didn't want to leave the lair. No doubt he was beating himself up over that constantly (also his father "died" and he might have blamed that on himslef too). And he's also the default medic: everyone would have been looking to him for how to treat Leo, even if he had no idea how.

That's a lot to put on a guy who's just lost everything he ever knew, all his tools, two members of his family, his hometown, and probably has no internet connection to boot. Raph was keeping watch over Leo and wrapping his head around being temporarily in charge. Mikey was distracting himself with chores and activities, trying to keep everybody going.

Donnie was alone.

Trying to save a life.

With no recources to speak of and no one who could help.
