Just to add to this post because it's so important, it's actually ILLEGAL to try to force someone to stand for the pledge or the national anthem because it's considered part of your 1st amendment rights! In high school, I almost never stood for the pledge, and one substitute argued with me till he was blue in the face that it was illegal to sit during the pledge and sent me down to the principal's office. The principal said that even though he didn't like that I wasn't standing he knew it was illegal and sent out a school wide email to tell teachers that they cannot force students to stand. If you want to look more into the legal proceedings/cases regarding this or have evidence if your teachers argue with you, look into West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette !!
