One time when I was an RA in college a bunch of first year students were playing around with a Ouija board and freaked out because they summoned the demon Zozo. The RA for that building eventually had to have her priest uncle come and exorcise/bless the dorm and it was fine. Every resident encounter had to be officially documented, police report style, and so at some point after all this I was sat in a lecture hall with all the other RAs while our bosses lectured us on the proper way to handle a demon summoning

When I was a little kid I was well aware that television shows with real people in them were being played by actors, like I knew that the characters weren't real people but that they were played by real people.

However I did find it so amazing that the people who made movies had the foresight or luck to be able to take or find photos of these actors as children, or followed them for their whole lives to film them as kids and then again as adults, to use in tv shows and movies. So amazing! Such dedication! Absolutely no way in my little mind that these could have just been different actors!

If somebody in your life offers to knit or crochet or, really, create anything for you, please be an active participant in the creation of the piece they are making. I adore making and gifting things, but nothing bums me out quicker than a person who passively just goes "okay," to my ideas about what I'm making them - it can send the message that they won't like it, or that they don't care, even if they're happy about my offering. The back-and-forth feedback is a great way to make sure that you are being gifted something that was truly worth the time, effort, expertise, and money that will inevitably go into the gift!

I know it's really hard to be an active participant, believe me, I'm an anxious ball of horror, but it will only do good for both parties to interact in this situation. It is a big deal to be offered a hand-crafted gift, but it's also something we want you to love and use, and that can only happen if you tell us what would make you fall in love with what we create.
