you’re telling me the bridgerton writers really said “we’ll have benedict suggest john throw rocks at francesca’s window as a bold declaration of love” knowing full well that eloise was throwing rocks at penelope’s window in season one and had eloise staring longingly after penelope all season and have had eloise essentially always be short with colin and made it canon that as a child she wanted to be a knight with penelope and they said they’d be spinsters together and i’m somehow supposed to buy that she wasn’t in love with penelope? sure

In my opinion, shipping Nika with other characters other than Damian will still not make any sense now.

She is in the process of a relationship with Damian.

Nika is 15 and she told Damian that this is her first time trying a relationship too (why does so many ppl expect her to know any better? She's as clumsy as Damian in this type of thing too, because she's new to this just like him).

She has not yet interacted with characters outside of Lazarus Island (aside from Batman), she needs to be introduced to them first so she has more room to grow as a character (Flatline/Nika solo plz dc…let her have some friends…).

Most of the characters have their own story and motives, and there are stories to support different characters. Right now Nika only has Damian and her sister Mila who are more focused on her development.

Most of the characters her age are more likely tied to Damian and being his friends/former teammates. Idk thinking about Nika dating any of them wired me out cause they’re more of Damian's support characters than hers (again she has not yet met them).

If Nika is lucky enough to get a solo or on a team and has characters(new or old) central/related to her story, and only if she and Damian do not work out in the future, then she may have other love interests that can be support to her story.

That being said, I will still be a daminika fan first and foremost if any ship could be possible and makes sense to Nika in the distant future.

And this is why I don’t prescribe to “anti” as a fandom label: it means absolutely nothing except “bad fandom person” to people whose entire self-worth is tied up in whether or not their opinions are “valid” to mainstream fandom. I’m an “anti” for saying that a canon villain is a villain, but you’re not an ���anti” despite hating the villain’s canon personality and rewriting their actions and key motivations. And now that you’ve labeled me an “anti,” you can accuse me of egregious behavior that I’ve never committed, because again, you have now defined “anti” as a “bad fandom person.”

The “anti” tag was started as a concession to fans who didn’t want to see or engage in critical critique of their favorite media, so respectful critical fans took it elsewhere. Now that it’s being applied to “you speak about the canon bad things done by a canon antagonist,” it has lost all meaning. Put it up on the high shelf with the other words that non-reading ass bitches have ruined, cause there’s no meaning in using it anymore.

if the roles were reversed and zuko tracked down mai specifically to yell at her for breaking up with him while she was imprisoned, sitting in an interrogation chair, and couldn’t leave, willfully putting her life in danger, called her “you idiot”, and threw a scroll at her head, i guarantee you people in-fandom would read zuko the riot act, and they’d be right to.

but that’s not actually what happened. mai did all of those things. and yet people defend her because they’re falling in line with the show’s double-standard of acting like it’s fine for mai to treat zuko this way. and there’s misogyny in that because the reason it’s not taken seriously and treated like it’s no big deal is because she’s a girl, and therefore how could she possibly hurt him?

the writers definitely didn’t intend (imo) for mai to be seen as abusive, but that’s a problem in and of itself because it means her behavior here, even if not ideal, is not being treated as all that bad. but with or without realizing it, they’re playing on a lot of tropes that indicate abuse, and it’s wild that people defend it.
