IBGH3 competition, what a day.
Sammy had all the fun and barked a lot (he is not barky until it comes to competitions).
Beside the temperature canges (from 7°C up to 25°C in two days) and that he was barky, it was okay.
Our heelwork was a bit off (maybe just my feeling), I am happy he is okay - I saw on the video that he stumbled (otherwise the judge complimented our heelwork).
Sammy was an angel, he gave his very best.
90/100 points.
I am happy because the judge loved Sammys motivation and work again.
I heared the judge giggle when Sammy retrieved from ground and he grumbled while picking up the dumbbell (this made my day).
1 point away for a moving paw (stand out from motion).
2 points for chewing at the dumbbell both times.
1 point for a scew front sit.
1 point for a slowly sit out from motion.
And 5 points for the barking.
By the way, the judge was the sweetest person I ever had on a competition, so kind.
Sammy is a joy to work with ️.

I painted a Doberman named Wicked in watercolors!
Want a pet portrait done? My commissions are open!
I figured out a new technique with my watercolor brushes to make more realistic short/fine hairs. I am absolutely in love with this painting, I think it may be my best so far.
Tumblr media
About my process:
So usually I’d use a cut up acrylic brush to get an uneven/jagged texture that creates strokes resembling when used to paint. This is great with long haired animals if they have flowing hair. With short haired dogs it doesn’t work as well because of the hundreds (thousands?) of tiny little strokes required to get the texture right. This time I used an actual watercolor brush (a smaller round brush) and would flick any excess water off so it was mostly dry (but with pigment) and splayed out kind of wildly (more or less depending on how sparse or heavy/dark I needed the hair to be in each area) I primarily used a Windsor & Newton Series-7 size 3 (finest sable). The paper is 9x12. Adjust your brush sizing accordingly. I used a white gel pen for corrections. Often it’s too bright for a particular area on a darker dog so I’ll often rub it in with my fingers to soften the contrast!

Congrats on the Ribbons, do you get other prizes? Bc I’d expect the dogs to get like an edible ver of a ribbon or so if not like a gift certificate for a dog food brand
Typically no. Clubs provide flat ribbons and rosettes for qualifying runs and placements, but only occasionally does someone sponsor or donate prizes.
Pichael is heavily compensated for her involvement in any and all activities we do. She gets an entire boatload of snacks regardless of performance. This past trial the special treat was 🌟 cheese 🌟 and she was Thrilled. She also got a new octopus toy <3

Dogsports for puppyplay!!! Showpuppies being put on tables and walked around to judges to be examined on their coat, posture, holes, breedability, etc. Obedience and rally pups being walked around by their trainer doing fun tricks and being tested on their endurance. Agility puppies running around courses (maybe trying to keep a plug in). Flyball puppies running on a team to try and catch a ball or a toy. Nosework puppies smelling around to find fun treats. Herding trial puppies herding cowgirls/boys/people into their milking and breeding stations. There’s so many options!!!!!!

A bit Rally-Obedience training with Sammy, nearly 18°C and sun - a dream.
Yesterdays training went okay, I was tired and Sammy was "on fire".
I am always so happy to see that he enjoys our training too.
We walked the parcour 2 times and Sammy really did so good.
My signals were a bit slow and not clear so he thought one time he need to change his side behind me at the beginning (it was supposed to be over the front).
And in the second walk (same sign) I did a signal mistake.
I talled him to come and sit but did the hand sign for a spin (dumb brain).
So he thought about to spin but stopped because he listens to my vocal commands too and sat down.
I am happy that I was filmed so I saw he was moving when he was in the stay command and I walked away.
Lets just say: thank you Sammy for always being an amazing good boy.
He saves us so often, especially at competitions because my brain is on vacation.

Those are fair points! Secrecy is a frequently debated topic, because the statistics just aren’t clear as to whether it’s a consistent benefit to win percentages or cost effective as someone whose income AND expenses are largely dictated by professional battling. There’s simply not enough data. Training up new Pokemon is resource intensive, and you ideally want that training to have dividends once they’re tourney-ready. I’m not professional on that level, I do small-scale competition, so it’s definitely out of my pay grade. It’s a risk the majority of pro battlers can’t afford to take. So a lot of folks at the lower pro levels only have a roster of maybe 8 Pokemon to pull from, because they’re working solo and 6 is already a lot of work. And some of us do keep it quiet, because we want that extra edge. But it doesn’t last in local scenes, not with the closer-knit community and more limited resources. I’m not saying it’s an invalid way to operate, just that I personally fall on the side of the debate where it’s not worthwhile. Not for me, at least.
Genuine question: why do competitive trainers here post their team in pinned? Isn't that like giving away your strategy training in chess? Or are you just lying in said pinned?
