summer’s end

#had a really nice weekend to round it out u kno #saw Sarah on Friday for pasta and watching reality tv #picked wildflowers on Saturday and went to the dog park and some yard sales with my sister and we had such a good time we’ve been kind of #distant lately so that was really great. and time and my bf went to a mug decorating workshop and then tried a new restaraynt and got giant #margaritas . and watched survivor #Sunday gym kicked ass + moved furniture around and helped my bf paint his bedroom #today went to work first thing then to the lake for swimming and napping in the sun then more work and more gym which also kicked ass #then groceries and making out with my bf now home laundry etc getting ready to go to bed so I can wake up early and take Winston to do some #thing before work and my first classssssss yayyyy #can u tell im tired I made so many typos and fully just used the wrong words… we painted his bathroom .#personal

#dogblr #rory borealis #i try to clean everything on nye so we can go into the new year as our best selves #its relative of course - im taking rory for a jaunt this afternoon so she wont be like squeaky clean #but it is what it is #i wanted to do all my dog laundry so i had to warsh her first #in the winter she only gets warshed once a month or so (in the spring summer and fall whe gets washed once every week or two)#and every month she remembers what a sad time it is to be a dog who lives indoors and is allowed on the furniture #(if she wasnt allowed on the furniture i wouldnt care if she was stinky)#at least now shes safe for another month

we need to put James Bond more in the path of queer elders.

Like yes he may be a baby queer finally cracking open the rigid hard shell of his adult life persona to explore Other Modes of Being at 40-some odd years. But also that doesn't stop him from being one of the old guard, he still has a wealth of life experiences, and if anything.... I do think he probably either understands on an intuitive level or would quickly pick up/quickly click with the concepts of gender being Performative. So like that wouldn't be a barrier of entry, and just like. I think he would relate to queer elders better from a like comparable life stages standpoint.

but yeah basically lol, I just think it would be very instructive for him and also, like, that he'd find a lot of camaraderie with elder butches especially lmao. And especially again elder butch activists!! like, in some ways, both him & them have lived through a lifetime of wars that are not wars. And they both had to fight tooth and nail to get here today, but by god are they still alive and screaming in defiance in the face of those that would see them dead.

I think there's a lot he could relate to with them, but also, a lot he could learn from & about with them. Like, queer joy just Hits Different when you see it in queer elders.

#also it would be good for him to see queer joy esp in elder queers #it's like. we fight for our whole lives & god is it hard. and the fight is so nonlinear. but by god do the good moments make it all Worth I #sth sth recognition of the self thru the other etc #and also more options for freedom of exploration & comparatively less judgment & also more room to experiment w modes of expression #and also they can like parallel play w crafts & hobbies lol #WAIT lol. what if he meets his local group of queer elders cuz they're hosting the furniture restoration class #.........is it too much to work in the 'he gets mistaken for a beautiful butch' aspect in this too? LOL #actually. maybe it would be kind of funny. they think he's a beautiful butch and already sort of tacitly accept him as one of their own #and then Q shows up to pick him up/meet him at the end of the class & they're like. *recalculating....* and then it's like OH I see. Ah #I think this should only come out several months into them becoming friends. as like a fun fact like o yea LMAO did you know when we first #met. we all thought you were a butch lesbian as well. imagine our surprise when Q here showed up LOL #00q #old dog new Genders

My roommate's girlfriend (buzzed) and my roommate (blitzed) woke up to cats yowling in the alley last night right around the time I got home, and in a convincing display of her assertion that it's not CERTAIN we're getting a new cat soon (we are) my roommate asked if I wanted to go outside (it was midnight) and help them catch the one that seemed like maybe it was new to being outside. So I grabbed the carrier I've kept by the door in case our last project (Pete the tuxedo) came back (chewed a hole in the window screen and ran) and followed my roommate outside where her gf was lying on the ground with a tin of wet food trying to coax the cat from under the dumpster (nowhere near garbage day) and meowing (comfortingly?).

We ended up walk-chasing the cat down the street and Carolyn (roommate) actually got hands on her at one point, but the cat escaped (she didn't remember to zip the top of the carrier after she put the cat in) (this was when I realized she was drunk af and not just sleepy) so we spent another 20 minutes crawling around with phone flashlights on (still midnight) and eventually had to give up.

As we were walking back to the apartment (half a block away) I rolled a high enough perception check (permanent disadvantage due to adhd) to see that there was a man sitting nearly motionless in his SUV with all the lights off, lit only by the blue glow of his dash controls.

I said (quietly) "there's a whole-ass man who's been sitting in his car right here this entire time."

The other two (limbs a drunk and sweaty pretzel) processed this for a moment and giggled together. "oh well," said Julia (the toothpick keeping this thing together). "this is Chicago. He's seen weirder."

"oh for sure," I said, picking off leaf litter stuck to my elbow (humid). "I mean I feel like three lesbians chasing pussy at midnight is pretty normal around here anyway."

A (drunk) pause, then laughter so loud that something streaked from the bushes (cat) bolted across the road, and disappeared under a fence (welp).

#Mundane adventures #At least we got her away from the black and white cat #He kept trying to instigate a fight and she just kept hunkering refusing or not understanding #We lost sight of that gray one like four times and only found her because the black and white one was also following her #And we would see him start stalking and go ah there she is #He finally went away #Godspeed little kitty #As for 'around here' - Chicago has an informal lesbian neighborhood #It's more generally queer these days but it used to be colloquially called girlstown as a mirror to the famous boystown #You go there to get drunk and hook up and you go here to buy furniture and records and walk your dog #And we live right on the edge of that neighborhood

Look at my nice living room! Couch, chairs, and rug are all Wayfair; the chest is from a local thrift store.

The stuff I had before was heavy, old, beat-up hand-me-downs, in colors I neither chose nor particularly liked, so it feels good to have made an upgrade. I spent about $600 for the lot--a pretty good deal for so much stuff, I thought. Of course, I don't know how well the Wayfair stuff will hold up, but out of the box, the quality seems more than reasonable for how cheap it all was. (The chairs were an open-box deal, and I actually was only expecting one of them, but I'm not complaining.)

"Extra tough super durable dog toys! If your dog destroys it, we'll send you a new one!" liars. My pit bull has taken a chunk out of every one of you, we've sent back multiple. We have to use horse toys for this bad boy, and even then he's taken a chunk out of one of them!
