The Midwest Borzoi Club put on two consecutive independent specialities this past Sat and I promised Margo if she finished in the ribbons at either of them she could be retired. She took me up on my offer and won first Award of Merit under breeder judge Patti Neale amongst an entry of 80+ borzoi and 40 champions. She showed more beautifully for me than ever before, and I’m so proud of us as a team!
I love this little big red dog so much. The end of my first show dog’s career is very bittersweet, but what a way to go out!

Here is my list of things that bother me a lot as a dog trainer and someone who shows dogs (and my advice on how to avoid these things).
Number one: People who don’t research before they buy a dog. Researching is ESSENTIAL not only for knowing what breed you want but for knowing who to buy from. There are lots of backyard breeders out there, so be careful! My advice on avoiding buying from a backyard breeder: make connections. Hang out around dog shows, talk to people, explain your situation. Many people will be happy to help. You can also find certain online communities about the specific dog breed, especially on Reddit, and ask about breeders there. Also, make sure you really want to buy a dog. There are many benefits from adopting, and buying is not your only option, especially if you want a pet.
Number two: Buying someone a puppy as a surprise. Puppies are MASSIVE commitments. There is a 0% chance that a person who has done no research on puppies will raise a good tempered, well trained dog. At least let them get the dog on their own.
Number three: Not socializing a puppy. Puppies need to be socialized and desensitized. Otherwise, they can grow up to be aggressive or reactive.
Number four: Punishing a dog for going through fear periods. Puppies go through fear periods at 8-11 weeks and 6-14 months. Yes, your dog could behave different then. Yes, it could feel like your training is going backwards. It’s not their fault.

Cloud Pupdate:
1) He is now a Champion show dog (IABCA)
2) He has balls and sure wants to use them but we are waiting and seeing on health testing and such before we decide if he gets the ✂️
3) I took on a side gig as a trainer at his obedience school because I was there so much and so often that at some point the owner just got fed up and said ‘look just come teach here’. So now I teach puppy and basic obedience classes and Cloud gets to be my demo dog and show off all his Big Boy moves.

Marmaduke (2022)
Format: Feature-length animated movie.
Director: Mark Dippé
Writer: Byron Kavanaugh
Is J.K. Simmons in this? (a sigh as deep as an ice crevasse on Mount Everest) Yes.
Who does he portray? Zeus, an Afghan hound and competitor in a dog show.
What does he do? He insults and generally tries to sabotage his competitors.
How bald is he? Extremely not, he is covered all over in long lustrous fur.
Is anybody else in this? Yes. There are a bunch of additional characters, most of whom are other dogs.
Is it worth seeing if I’m not a J.K. Simmons completist? Not even a little bit, it’s painfully unfunny and the vast majority of the plot doesn’t make a lick of sense. If I could forget that this movie ever existed, I’d do it with a smile.

Pino had his second dog show and it was okay - Pino behaved so super good, I am really proud.
He really is a good boy and showing his best side (which is every side).
Sadly the judge told us that Pino looks to young beside the others.
"Not in full coat which makes him look younger."
Well it is the class for young dogs who need to grow up more.
We got last place because of his coat (this is what the judge told us).
But totally okay, we are not mad or sad.
For us he will always be the best and there is a next time ☺️.

if you’re ever in the position to choose between giving up and accepting defeat, and actually trying to fight the ancient unkillable god that is about to peel apart reality like a string cheese, remember this: scientifically speaking, you might as well give it a shot!
1.there were trees at the beginning of the world! there were trees so long ago that they predate bacteria that causes wood to decay. when a tree fell, it would lie there in stasis and there wasn’t any way of breaking down wood xylem on a molecular level in that way.
2. it seems obvious to say, but wood eating bacteria are literally incapable of comprehending what they’re breaking down. It’s just not information conciously available to a microorganism. they don’t know what they’re deconstructing, where it came from, bacteria have no way to even fathom the existence of a tree as a concept.
3. Regardless of the facts above, the world we live in today is a world where wood inevitably decomposes
it is worth fighting the unkillable god no matter how pointless it seems. it is worth taking the risk even though youre trying to accomplish something impossible. the reality in which you live was also once reality in which trees didn’t rot. You live in a reality that allows for existence before the possibility of destruction. you live in a reality where uncomprehending microbes break down matter that is so far beyond the scope of their comprehension that it feels comical to specify something so obvious. you live in a reality that occasionally allows unshakeable physical truths to be altered with no warning.
It is worth fighting the unkillable god because trees are so old they predate the source of their destruction, and it still did not spare them. It is worth fighting the unkillable god because bacteria rots unthinkingly, because there is room in our cosmos for destruction without comprehension on the part of the destroyer. It is worth fighting the unkillable god because now and then reality retracts the promise of immortality without fanfare, and when that happens there is no mercy for the ancient. the unmaking is not softer for the desecrators ignorance. for all things, existence is endless until the exact point where it ends.
so you might as well try to kill the unkillable god. it doesn’t seem likely, but at the beginning of the world, trees didn’t rot. so you never know! you never know

thinking about how people don't get proper dog shows. or like. what happens. specifically that marmaduke movie danny gonzales (i spelt that wrong 100%) did a review on anywayyy
dog shows are infact very hard (for me atleast) especially with long haired dogs bc like you have to make the dog look nice and make sure everythings right and i know someone who's dedicated her life to her poodles and she doesn't even win best of show every time so y'know its not that easy
side note send me asks about dog shows i'd love to answer :3
